First the Idah situation, Norwich have a certain figure in mind which obviously our Board have not met, if we are not going to pay this then move on to other targets, by the way this Celtic's fault in the first place by NOT getting a right to buy at end of loan.
We have 3 weeks before window closes so surely Board must start bringing in players, I read that Brendan has given Board his list of players, and that our Board as usual are going in with low ball offers.
How many agree with the apologists (Gerry) on here constantly sucking up to the Board with a myriad of excuses which we fans have all heard before. A professional club, which Celtic are, should have had these negotiations all tied up long before this.
Celtic and our Board should have a Plan A, B, C, D, etc but it looks like we do not even have a Plan A.

I agree with part of gerry’s view, about it’s better waiting for a Brendan Rodgers approved signing, rather than the project signings from last season.

But there’s absolutely no excuses for starting the season with only ONE striker from 3 needed.

Kyogo also played against Ayr and Queens Park in pre season and he looks sharp but he will need to be rotated.

When Kyogo played the full match on Sunday,
I thought it was a sign that a striker would be brought in this week.
Because normally Brendan would’ve wrapped Kyogo up in cotton wool after our 3rd goal, with him presently being our only option.

I would think BR would have gave a list to who ever of possibly 4or 5 players for each position that he wants strengthened? . Surely one of that list is available? I just don't understand what the hold up is. I would go as far as say it's complacency on the Boards part. Or falling asleep at the wheel.

Is there a possibility are targets are playing European qualifiers and the respective clubs don't want to sell until they know the outcome off ther results, say a team qualify for the champs league they might not want to sell but if they get knocked out before the group stage they might have to sell, possibly clut thing at straws but could be a possibility.

Announcing from the roof tops we are stock piling millions. Millions can't play LB CH CDM and 2 strikers but it can buy them!

Don't think there's any need to be attacking other posters. Were all entitled to our view. that's piss poor for me.

Hi All hope you are well.

I think we need to deal with facts here, as a lot of people seem to be torturing themselves waiting on transfers.
1) BR said he could have had 9 players in week before we went to USA. I'm glad as Gerry said, BR is running quality control over signings.
2) the fact the board didn't sign these guys tells me they are listening to BR.
3) Plans don't always work out. Vata is a good example of this, given he was going to be 3rd striker. No one is bigger than the club.
4) the type of player we are looking at will wait to the last minute. Ed and Buzz will keep us right here - how many big players have we signed on the final day of windows? I can remember frimpong and CCV.
5) the accounts released next month will not include trading right now. Tho happy to be corrected there. There is no hoarding of money for stock market reasons.
6) Norwich did not want an obligation to buy clause in the Idah deal. That's why it fell through with Verona and we were able to swoop in. That's not board negligence, it's getting the guy in that BR wanted.
7) trust the process. I know we have been stung in the past, but I really think it is different now that BR has a veto on deals.
8) wait till the last day of the window before judging it. I know there's plenty of bed wetting before then, but I'd rather wait and see what we pull out of the bag.

Overall keep the faith here and try not to eat ourselves alive in the meantime.

Please can we not go blaming european qualifiers. Being Celtic, we already know that january is a difficult window. We then have the windows where world cups and european championships make it difficult for Celtic. We're already down to 2/ 8 windows where it's not difficult for Celtic. Now we're going to blame european qualifiers. They happen every summer.

07 Aug 2024 17:00:23
Dr Phil, totally agree with your post.

07 Aug 2024 17:02:07
Giakoumakis, Jota, CCV and Idah were all last minute signings in the previous 3 seasons.

07 Aug 2024 17:15:29
I'm cool with others having a different opinion, end of the day we all want what's best for the club. I'd love to sign Idah, but not at any price, I have no doubt we will sign at least one striker in this window, and agree we should also have a second left back in the first team squad. But I'm not panicking, this squad as it stands will win the league. Europe is a basket case with the new format, how well we do is all down to the draw we get, we could throw £100m at it and still finish in the bottom 12 (easily) .

A lot of good, relevant, detailed posts above. I also agree with the fact that we have shouted from the rooftops how 'flush' we are before actually spending much money. Very naive for Big Business, Celtic.

{Ed007's Note - We didn't shout it from the rooftops, we followed LSE regulations by announcing it to them.}

07 Aug 2024 17:56:24
Possibly I am panicking but the way I see it is this Supposing we do wait until the last day of the season And Supposing we do bring in a striker a left back a centre back and who ever else we need. Will they be able to fit in WELL with the rest of the squad before our first CL game? I think is 2 weeks after the window closes? And just before the first CL game we have the Sevco game would we risk any new player in that game? It's just to close for my way of thinking that we need the new players in now not later so they can settle in a little before those games.

07 Aug 2024 17:57:24
We could spend £100m and still finish bottom 12, Gerry, but I'd rather fail being ambitious rather than unambitious just because there are no guarantees.

07 Aug 2024 18:08:26
We all want what’s best for the team but we still have to hold the board to account when there’s big gaps in the squad and millions in the bank. We might yet get good guys in last minute but they should’ve been in place for the first game, not having them in now is a risk we shouldn’t have taken. Thank god that Brendan has the players we do have playing well.

07 Aug 2024 18:12:41
Dr Phil ??.

07 Aug 2024 19:00:30
You make a good point Tony because that was also my issue with last minute signings.
Good preparation for the CL gives us a better chance.

07 Aug 2024 19:21:27
Remember Reo came here and a few days later bossed the Glasgow Derby. It's about the player a lot of the time, not the time they need to fit in.

Quality players know what they need to do on the field, they don't need the same time to fit in as project young players.

I am confident we will get the right players in.

07 Aug 2024 19:31:36
On what basis does anyone have faith in the board to deliver the players we are all crying out for? I hear people saying they have a feeling it’s going to be different but I am going on past failures and previous histories and not my gut .
I just think we have all seen this before we tried to sign XYZ but couldn’t get the deal over the line and end up last minute scrambling around to get players in.
After the last few windows and seeing how they have went I have zero faith in this board to deliver.
At the current moment in time we have the strongest squad in the league and should win the league but say kyogo McGregor and CCV get injured and we sell O’Reilly where does that leave our squad?

07 Aug 2024 19:48:02
Hatate was at Celtic for nearly 5 weeks before the Sevco match.
He had already scored his first goal at Tynecastle.

I get your point though because any player can hit the ground running.

I just think if Celtic are bringing in a few last minute signings, it’s unfair on Brendan with his CL preparations.

07 Aug 2024 20:12:13
Buzz you are a legend.

08 Aug 2024 07:32:44
Bang on as per Kevbhoy. Losers aren't those that try and fail, losers are those that don't try.

Buzzbomb, the fact we have had some decent late arrivals is all I'm clinging onto now but this club really know how to frustrate it's supporters.
