Please correct me if I am wrong and I probably am. A scout for a football club will be sent or go to watch a particular player, They will then pass on that information to the club? They will analyse that information and I guess characterise that into the position that they play in?

Then a head scout will whittle that file down to say 5 or 6 player's that he will present to the manager and or the board where they will take it from there? Celtic as far as I am aware don't have a head scout? That is bound to be slowing the process down considerably to get new players in? IF what I have said is correct. No head Scout since February.

For a club of our size we need a recruitment team in place immediately it's a shambles, this is key to our progression and I've not heard a whisper of anyone coming in to fill the void.

What happened to Jay Lefevre?

30 Jul 2024 00:21:49
Jay Lefevre is Head of Scouting at Celtic, he used to be one of our international scouts before being promoted. I'm sure ed007 said he has been in that role since 2019.

Tony is probably meaning Head of Recruitment.

{Ed007's Note - Lefevre is our "Head of Recruitment", I don't understand where this notion we don't have or that we need a "recruitment team comes from.

Says he's head of scouting operations not recruitment.

{Ed007's Note - it's just a job title, read the below, why would we need a head of scouting operations and a head of recruitment?

The PFSA (The Professional Football Scouts Association) describe the Head of Recruitment as such:

Every club’s individual duties may vary, however here are some of the most commonly seen responsibilities occupied by the Head of Recruitment. Depending on their size and desired outcomes, clubs will tailor these tasks to fit their own unique needs.

- Develop a network of scouting contacts regionally, nationally and/or internationally.

- Build positive relationships with professionals within football such as agents and clubs.

- Recruit, organise and manage a team of scouts to support the academy and first team to ensure that they carry out their roles and responsibilities within the parameters of the club and player profiling requirements.

- Liaise with the academy manager/coaching staff and/or first-team manager/coaching staff.

- Talent identification and recruitment of emerging players that meet the club’s strategic vision.

- Produce a database of players from other football clubs or from the ‘grassroots’ level which would meet the club's player profiling requirements and budget.

- Attend regular meetings and report the progress of these identified players to the academy manager/coaching staff and/or first-team manager/coaching staff with set targets.

It’s not. The structures that are wrong, it’s the expectations of some fans and the product of our recruitment are not on the same page .
Fans s are eager for players in now, recruitment team can’t produce the new players now and fans are worried about the future .
