As long as I can remember at this time of the year supporters (me included) have clamoured for that marquee signing. That one player who in our eyes will make all the difference. Who will lead us to the league title and beyond. In reality it seldom happens and we are left frustrated and disappointed. So what's the difference now. Why aren't we seeing or hearing the shout for that player on this site or any of the others for that matter. Yes there have been rumours of one player or another but not that wave of passion that supporters emit when we are after that one gem we think will be the game changer.
Could it be the fact that we have all bought into the Ange philosophy. Here we have a manager who is building a team. No out and out stars but good players all playing for each other and collectively getting the results as they buy into the way Ange wants them to play. I for one am glad that we no longer seek to address our problems with the purchase of that one marquee player and that we have evolved as a team and club into a completely different beast.

Our marquee signings were Jota and CCV (£13m for both) we don't need a big marquee signing as I'm not sure who we could get and who would drop out to fit him in.

That’s a good post Lawman and I believe we don’t hear ‘the shout’ for any kind of statement or marquee signing because there is an air of optimism, realistic expectation and contentment at the way Celtic are going. We fans can see that Ange has an exciting plan, that the Board are backing that plan, and that the team are not only wholeheartedly trying, but that they are improving week on week and look like they could be going places.
Sure we can argue about whether JJ should start or Ralston, Kyogo v GG and Abada v Maeda etc etc, but these are enjoyable arguments (or discussions) born out of our excitement, not desperate action.
In over fifty years I have not seen Celtic in a better place. I hope it continues for a long time as who knows where Ange can take this team.
The only fly in the ointment is that the better they get the more the predators will gather (its already started) and these players are all ambitious talented young men, so we are going to lose some of them. We might even lose Ange himself in the not too distant future. So let’s continue to enjoy it whilst we have it. We don’t need Marquee signings, just a little bit of continuity
and of course luck.

Two good posts guys.

I think you’re right, we are all buying into what the manager is building. This has calmed the nerves we normally feel around this time of the season. One other factor is not having to play the qualifying rounds, we’ve proven in recent years that we can’t quite get upto speed quick enough for those matches.

I would be worried (in a good way) if we over achieve in the UCL as this will draw more attention to the man that’s turned a failing, predictable and lethargic team into a stylish footballing team.
