A piece of light hearted trivia from out here in the town with two eyes and the aroma.

I went to the Bon Accord in Glasgow for a diet coke and four pints of stout a few weeks back when I was in seeing the Tommy Burns story which was excellent I'd highly recommend it when the opportunity arises again which it will surely do.

I met the owner who was telling me he'd shaken hands with Jimmy McGrory who was our third manager and every Celtic manager since that's 19 managers including Mr McGrory. Big Ange is number 22 and he hasn't had the privilege yet but he hopes to do so in the near future to maintain his record.

So there you are I thought that was quite a wee story that was worth sharing among friends.

He’s a very lucky guy, to have personally met so many great men.

It’s a great story eh?

The only two managers I met personally were big Billy and Tommy.

Not a bad two to meet though.

I’ve only personally met Big Billy and Lenny.
When I was a 17 year old in 1991,I was introduced to Billy McPhail, who scored a hat trick in the 7-1 game in 1957.
I knew who he was because I recognised him from the Celtic videos, with his white beard and glasses. He was a lovely man.
Allan Herron the journalist took me in to see him.

Billy and Tommy were the only mangers I’ve met.

But I met Jinky a few times and had a good craic. One time I’m Coatbridge he was leaving a place and the troops were all drinking wine around a bonfire singing ‘Jimmy Johnstone on the wing’. Somebody asked him if he’d rather go out the back door and he said no. He knew he’d never be safer and signed all the laddies tops who
were wearing Celtic jerseys on the way out. Some man.

I also met Stevie Chalmers, John Clarke and Bertie. I met Bertie in hospitality and the guy with him asked me where I was from. When I told him (which is worse than just being from Airdrie) he said ‘What the f**** are you doing in here? ’.

Good memories JFP.
Bertie served me my first pint in Bairds Bar.
Wullie O’Neill also served me in Bairds Bar and he showed me his medal from Lisbon, given to him because he played in earlier rounds.
I also met Jinky in Bairds and he came to our Supporters Clubs POTY dance, held in the Jock Stein Lounge.
In your town JFP, I met Frank McGarvey in the West End Bar about 20 years ago.
It was a Friday afternoon and Frank had his joiners belt on, after finishing his shift.

There's a photograph that sits in my house of my brother being presented with the player of the year award from Jock Stein, presentation night for Clarkston Amateurs.

Franks definitely a character JFP.
In my first ever Celtic game, I saw Frank score his first Celtic goal.
