Don't know everyone else's thoughts but I actually think a number 10 with the ability to beat a man and thread a pass is what we might need, don't think o riley or turnbull are really that type, and the hard man midfielder keeps being rubbishd by ange, he just doesn't play that way, another striker would be nice as well.

Agree0 Disagree0

Been saying for a while now a midfielder who can spot Kyogo's runs would be brilliant not sure their are too many about in our price range though.

11 Aug 2022 09:43:13
A player who can play and mix it. McStay?

11 Aug 2022 10:31:55
Maybe the Spanish boy has that in his locker but I think we lack that type.

11 Aug 2022 10:39:50
Mooy is a pass maker if you look at his history, so we have that type of player here already. Some people get excited that we need a physical midfielder when we play Sevco because of the likes of Ludstrum but Ange thinking appears to be that quality players will be able to play around him.

11 Aug 2022 11:04:04
I agree Mooy could be that man I was delighted he signed he showed more in half an hour than McCarthy has shown in a season and a half.

Ange’s comments still concern me though that if we move the ball the way we can in midfield we don’t need an enforcer.

I asked after he said that how does that work when you can’t get hold of the ball in the middle of the park against quality opposition in Europe?

Ange is the manager though and I very much hope he’s right and I’m proved wrong especially against them and in Champions League.

Hopefully berny and mooy will bring this. Both have it in there locker.
Give them a few more weeks.
I think we are a starting to see first team and super subs bench coming together.
When subs came on I had a feeling after a few mins we wil win this game with a few.
Ange want subs to come on and make an instant impact.
This has not failed yet.

A lot of clubs in Europe don't have enforces (god I hate that word) the best clubs have quality players who move the ball quickly, they chase the ball when out of possession and win it back, without crunching tackles. That is something we are good at, closing space, pressurising opposing players and getting the ball back. Quality does overcome physicality in Europe, not here because our refs are biased.

11 Aug 2022 12:01:53
I like mooy but am wondering if he will sit deeper because his passing is excellent, might be wrong, but an intelligent wispy type player behind our striker might be a shout.

11 Aug 2022 12:18:32
What about midfield general?

11 Aug 2022 12:41:26
Imo, the days of the classic no 10 are gone. Most top managers play a 433 nowadays so where does a 10 fit that system? Players like Coutinho and James Rodriquez have suffered the demise of those systems and while they're good footballers, they struggle to fit into teams because they aren't as well rounded players as a lot of midfielders coming through.

11 Aug 2022 12:42:39
Don't worry, they'll be playing on Sundays until Christmas.

11 Aug 2022 13:06:48
I tend to agree with MIP above. Ange’s game, like Klopps and Guardiolas, is based on quick passing, penetrative football creative and exciting football exercised by skilful and mobile footballers. The ‘hitmen’ are only of use in teams who want to halt or disrupt that system of creative play, and I don’t think Ange wants to go down that route.
?.

{Ed007's Note - It's not an old fashioned kick anything hatchet man we're talking about, it's someone to add a bit of a physical presence in the midfield area. Would you say the likes of Zidane was a 'hitman' or Petrov a bit closer to home, Paul Lambert? Guys that could all play a fair bit but could get stuck in when it was needed, we need to add a bit of overall grit/steel to our rather lightweight midfield.
If we go into the CL with CalMac playing in that sole CDM role we are going to get slaughtered, I'd even try O'Reily back there as he has a bit of muscle and height about him.}

Ed

How’s things?

Paul McStay (if only) . Paul Lambert. Barry Robson. Paul Hartley.

Lennon and Brown were less creative but were undoubtedly a midfield presence.

But none of the above were cluggers.

Laurie.

{Ed007's Note - All good here, JFP ?

11 Aug 2022 14:11:21
I’ve been calling out for a player like that for a while. A bit of pace wouldn’t go a miss either.

11 Aug 2022 14:14:36
Another Wanyama would be perfect. ?.

11 Aug 2022 16:15:13
Harry, you mentioned klopp regarding the midfield ball winner yet he always plays Henderson, we don’t have a similar player to him which our system needs .
He also brings on Milner to see out games where as giardiola regularly used Fernandinho. and has Rodri now.
We definitely need a type like these players, possibly not for the domestic scene but definitely in Europe .

11 Aug 2022 17:18:27
I agree with JFP 100% but if Ange proves us wrong, I'll be delighted.

Time will tell.

Afternoon All

This may already have been said .

Regarding an "enforcer type midfielder".

I'm fairly sure that with all those type of players out there and us having scouts / contacts everywhere that if Ange really wanted this type of player surely he probably would have signed that type by now?

?.

11 Aug 2022 18:09:03
We have McCarthy who is supposed to be that type of player but doesn't fit into Anges system or plans it would seem. Hatate in his first game against Sevco won most of the balls in the middle of the park and tracked back like a demon. Guchi is also that type of player. I think it will depend on how Ange wants them to play. In most of our games in SPFL we can afford not to play that way but he may change tactics in Europe. It'll be nail biting finding out as always.

11 Aug 2022 22:46:16
BRIAN. G by all accounts we did want that type of player in Souza.

11 Aug 2022 22:54:29
We are all on the same page here. If we are saying it then ange must be looking and I'm sure he knows.
What about big jenz there?
Good feeling about him.
He fights.
First game scores right into the fans. Welcome to celtic Big man.
Mooy will come gd you can see he is being carefull.
Time will tell lads.
