What's everyone's thoughts on our youth development? For me I don't think there is enough coming through that could make the grade . Does the whole thing need a shake up? Do we spend enough money on it?

We sold Tierney for millions. Calum McGregor imo is the best midfielder we've had since McStay. Forrest has held his own for a decade. This is impressive but 3 players in a generation isn't.
Us the support demand new players every window. You need to be top drawer to get a game and keep your place.
This is only the 2nd season of the B league maybe in time it will produce.

Our demand for success means kids rarely get an opportunity.

We have a few things going against us Mick'.

We are Celtic, as such we demand that we not only win a game but look damn good doing it. That kind of pressure, week in, week out, places fantastic demands on the manager who's job is on the line. Does he want to blood youth?

Celtic have the capacity to buy first team ready players from other clubs, so trying to shift them as a youth player is a huge ask at times. Being the top team in Scotland means you have to be an exceptional talent these days (CalMac, Tierney as mentioned) or play in an era where the board have no ambition or are just plain tight! Ralston is a good example of right time right place.

Our youth program has produced a few crackers and a few that have hit the bar like Christie and MJ. We have also let great talent go by not recognising their potential like Robertson at Liverpool.

The talent is there - they just can't get the game time needed to prove themselves or a manager too afraid of the "Spanish Archer".

Solutions? Thinking out the box. Apart from the obvious how about we buy a diddy team in The League of Ireland (or wherever) and loan most of our known talent to that club so they get competitive football in a competitive league every week? They are not getting that in Scotland but I can gaurantee they will develope better and faster. Other options are available!

Laterz.

Our academy is an absolute farce. You one real class player every ten years is not on. We haven’t produced a striker in over 30 years. A CB in as long. We produce players for the Hibs and Dons of this world. I haven’t seen a single one of the latest batch who will ever be a first team cert. Not a single one. If you think there is you’re on the Deludamol. Put it down. Wishful thinking is the key to our academy. And wishes seldom come true. At us is every ten years if we are lucky. Easiest job in football. You don’t have to produce anything and you get away with it. Needs a total shake up and clear out.

{Ed007's Note - Isn't it that attitude that's holding back youngsters, fans just don't give them a chance, even some managers are the same. Neil Lennon didn't think KT or Callum McGregor were good enough, you're writing off Tony Ralston that has been one of the most improved players in the country while Welsh is deemed good enough to play in Serie A and Ligue 1 but not good enough to be in a Celtic squad?
Bosun Lawel a youngster that people have raved about since before he even came here and could have signed for a number of PL teams when he left Watford, Tobi Oluwayemi, who Spurs were raging at losing and would sign him back tomorrow if they could and the England under-19 GK, how much have you seen from them to write them off, a bit in preseason?
If Celtic did produce a striker from the academy you'd be on moaning that the board are going for the cheap option, oh wait, Kenny's not good enough either after a a few appearances in pre season.
I don't know about Deludemol but feck going through life on whatever you're on, you're give an asprin a headache with your moaning and constant negativity about everything Celtic do or don't do.}

I can see where Magic Pole is coming from, our youth set up does need a revamp in terms of coaches and jobs for the boys, Can we honestly say we have the best possible coaches in those positions? i’m not so sure! also our so called pathway, there’s none for kids, we must be able to produce them if the likes of man city bayern and liverpool are coming cherry picking our best kids. Ad happily sacrifice the domestic cups of it ment our youths were getting tested in those competitions, the leagues our bread and butter.

{Ed007's Note - I'm not saying it can't and shouldn't be improved/bettered, CB but how can anyone realistically or honestly say?

"I haven’t seen a single one of the latest batch who will ever be a first team cert. Not a single one. If you think there is you’re on the Deludamol."

It used to be people said a player is only as good as his last game, with a lot of Celtic fans it's now a player is only as good as his last touch and when it's youth players they're just written off immediately for no other reason than being a kid, it's always just complete negativity towards them, never mind how nervous these lads are not just to be playing for a massive club like Celtic but even the step up to the first team squad, mixing with guys they've watched from afar and looked up to - even idolised, suddenly they're getting recognised in the street, their mam & dad are getting stopped to get congratulated etc it's a massive change of life and these kids need nurtured and encouraged, not wrote off after only playing a few minutes.}

Ed I think there needs to be a clear path and goals to reach to the first team . I don’t think enough comes through but I do reckon the talent is there so maybe it does need a shake up . We also need to get the best tied down straight away and try stop the beat ones from being poached away. I would like us to take a leaf out of the likes of Salzburg and Ajax .

Christ, Tony Watt got his ball booted for being too full of himself after the Barcelona thingy. Some people are never happy. Christie was almost out the door when his opportunity arose. Robertson was on our books at one time and seem to made a decent living ? If we don’t give the youth a chance we will never know. Did Bayern not take a few of our youngsters and Doakes went despite being introduced to the first team. Think some of our supporters need to get real. Everything in life is about timing and fortune. Think Benfica thought that much of Jota to loan him with a option to buy? We gave him a platform and showed them what they missed. All go back to giving them a chance and letting them take it, and not judging after twenty fecking minutes here and there!

No mate a didn’t really agree with that comment just the fact i think it can be improved! Am all for giving youth a chance as i have said before i will never forget a clown sitting near me saying Cal Mac was never celtic class when he was coming through! ad love to see the guy now! it was clear as day he had something when he was coming through, we all seem to give jonny foreigner time over a youngster and iv been guilty of it myself. There are decent youths out there it’s getting them to the next level.

Ange is just starting to fix the B team give him time. If they play the same system as the first team then young lads could move up a level easily.
We bit of work to do but ange wil sort that as well.

Ed
Your correct about managers. Tierney only came through because Ronnie liked him. Lennon never liked calmac even tried to make him a LB ???.
Would imagine most big clubs have similar experience.
