There's nobody wants Mccarthy to succeed more than me, but he really needs to sharpen up every game he's been Involved in he's looked a mile off it, maybe he's one of these guys that's got to start and not a good sub if you know what a mean.

Agree0 Disagree0

Maybe he is just a fish trying to ride a bike Mally'?

Hate being negative but, I think both McCarthy and Johnston could and should be replaced with better more reliable options before deadline.

Totally agree with the posts on this one.

I'm shocked at how poor McCarthy has been in the Hoops - 6 starts last season tells you something.

His movement, passing, everything really, has been off the pace.

When he came on last night his first touch almost led to the equaliser.

I really hope he turns a corner ASAP or else he'll be on borrowed time at the club.

As for Johnstone, when he's fit, never has he been or will he be, Celtic class. Giving this lad a 4 year deal was a poor decision by someone at the club.

McCarthy should never have been bought. Once again sentimentality over facts means we are wasting a fortune on someone who hasn’t looked anywhere near good enough in any game he has come on. I wish it could happen for him, but I also wish I was a brilliant guitar player. More chance of me achieving that. With Mooy in Ange has decided what he needs but he’s stuck with McCarthy for another three years. He will probably be here longer than Ange. I wish whoever brought him would just feck off and leave getting players to people who know what the eff they’re doing.

{Ed007's Note - I don't think Ange gets sentimental about anyone but his dad going by what he says, he certainly didn't sign McCarthy because of it.}

His first touch nearly cost a goal. Johnstone another passenger and has been since he broke through. A tidy sum in wages for heehaw.

I heard it was nothing to do with Ange. It was our amateur managers on the board.

{Ed007's Note - Ange was giving the option of signing McCarthy, he spoke to him extensively and McCarthy went through a thorough medical before Ange gave the move the thumbs up. There were some expected concerns over his short term fitness but no long standing issues were flagged up - he also caught Covid while trying to get up to speed after having no pre season.
Do you think that during the massive rebuild Ange was doing and running he would have accepted the board taking a sizeable chunk of his available wages on a player that he didn't want, why has he done nothing but praise the support he's had from the board if he was having a high profile player with the support forced on to him?
I'd stop talking to whoever you heard that off, they're obviously a complete moron that doesn't have a clue and is just making stuff up. I'll stick to what Jimmy Mac's family say.
Why is it when we sign any Irish player it's always the board that's forced it on the manager?}

Then Ange has made a s hit signing after all. An absolute howler. Let’s hope his latest ones aren’t in the same mould. Not convinced Barney or Jenz are good enough defenders for what we obviously need. Mooy I think will be great but I’m worried about our defence. It’s a part of the team no manager for fifty years has solved. Here’s hoping.

Oh and McCarthy is not Irish. He’s Scottish, like you and I. He just played for them like so many others have.

One final thing though. I would be doing back flips and eating a Desperate Dan sized humble pie if he came good and made us better. I want all our signings to be great, I just think the style we now play is beyond him. I also think he needs to calm down a bit. He is a Tim and obviously wants to do well, I think he puts pressure on himself and it’s affecting him. He makes mistakes a guy of his class shouldn’t so maybe if he puts less pressure on himself he may find his form. I absolutely hope he does. I will be the first to gladly say I got it wrong.
