the spfl have struck a deal with japan to show 38 league matches and celtic will be centre stage in the deal.

with the amount of Japanese players we have and ange being a big name over there i feel this will boost our revenue massively.

{Ed007's Note - Here's a thought, John, after what happened with Old Firm FC and the Cinch deal what would happen if Celtic told the SPFL to bolt when the TV rights are due to be renewed? It's just another sponsorship deal after all.
It's deals like this today that show we are the only show in town when it comes to Scottish football and we are quickly outgrowing Scottish football financially, if we called the SPFL's bluff and decided we would sell our own rights the financial gain would be crazy amounts plus the rise in our own sponsorship deals would go up accordingly.}

Ed
How would we get access to show away games?

{Ed007's Note - Pay Sly, BT or whoever to allow us to use it or come to a deal with them about broadcasting some of our games, like the Derby at Celtic Park. Just like the TV rights would be ours to sell we can also buy TV rights for games from the broadcaster. How does Celtic TV get to show away games, they pay Sly.
The TV deal for the rest of Scottish football would be paltry and the broadcasters would be looking to maximise their return, it's all about that bottom line. do you think the big TV companies execs care where their income comes from?}

spot on mark. a don't think the spfl have a leg to stand on with that now after sevco being allowed to have nothing to do with cinch.

this will also boost our revenue in merchandise massively mate with shirt sales ext i feel the Japanese will go crazy for us mate and can see a good few shops opening up over there.

wee have actually got our own tv deal with a country with a population of 125 million let that sink in buddy. loved the part when it says it will be centred on Celtic we will be the main attraction. this is massive for us and wee must take full control of it. we are definitely the only show in town buddy.

{Ed007's Note - Mikey was telling me that you can get players names on the back of your jersey in Japanese - online I think he said - so that tells you that we are going to be really trying to maximise that market. I think Adidas could be writing out a big fat bonus check for this coming season with merchandise sales, guaranteed CL exposure, the tour of Oz and now this TV deal they will be delighted with what they're getting for the money.}

defo mate as you says it will open the door to even bigger sponsorship deals to. the appointment of ange has been first class this is going to be massive for us mate and we should pull out all the stops to make sure they get little as possible i don't mind it helping other clubs in Scotland but i want them to get fek all.

what you make of Nicholson getting a seat on spfl board you think that could have anything to do with it.

{Ed007's Note - No mate, that place on the SPFL board gets rotated between us and them every year as a gentleman's agreement for want of a better description. Robertson (or his replacement at OFFC) will take up the position next year.}

there will be meltdown still by that mob.

how you think this tv deal will be structured i take it most of the 38 games will be us if not all our games.

{Ed007's Note - They can't keep hanging onto our coat tails for ever, it's about time they put their big boy pants on and stood on their own feet, maybe BBC Norn Iron fancy financing a TV deal that centres around them.
I think it will be mostly our games obviously and maybe the Edinburgh Derby(?) the play-off final later in the year(?).
They'd just be taking pi$$ if they only showed our games but it would be "top top bantz" to quote Jay from The Inbetweeners.}

Hi Ed
You can get the Japanese names in store as well. I was in today and it’s mental for kyogo.

{Ed007's Note - Cheers buddy ?

18 Jul 2022 16:17:20
hahaha good one mate its all about us and there trying to always equal us. hope the tv channel strikes a deal with a motor company and asks for that to be in the tv deal haha.

{Ed007's Note - We could be running about spending Toyota or Honda's money and they're taking the huff over a car showroom in Hamilton ? There would be a petition to get Big Dougie to stop selling the brand of car 100%.}

ED007 I am sure I read somewhere that it would be very difficult for Celtic to go it alone with a TV deal, what I read was that all 11 other SPFL teams would need to AGREE to playing us in front of the cameras in such a deal, and that these clubs would be wanting a slice of the tv revenues or they could refuse to play us. I would imagine the SFA and SPFL would be hiring lawyers as well.
But as you say Sevco, set a precedent with the Cinch deal, so Celtic's legal team could have a strong case to put forward.

{Ed007's Note - They'd be getting their cut from the broadcaster that holds the TV rights for the rest of the SPFL, it would be them we'd be negotiating with and we all know that in Scottish football cash is king.
Would Ross County vote in favour of no TV deal or a TV deal that is subsidised by Celtic, even OFFC wouldn't be silly enough to have no TV deal at all
And the other SPFL teams are signed up to a league agreement to fulfill fixtures it has nothing to do with what TV cameras are there, if they refuse to play us then it's up to the SPFL to punish them and it's an easy 3-0 win for us.}

100 percent mate big dougie doing 2 for 1 deals on toyotas just to get rid of the stock haha.

mark see that it will mostly be our games showing means wee will get most of the money i take it.

{Ed007's Note - Yeah that'll be the case.}

Ed
You live in fantasy land if you think the rest of the spl teams would agree to separate TV deal. Turkeys don't vote for Christmas.

{Ed007's Note - If it's a separate deal or no deal what would they take? And clubs don't get a vote on TV or any sponsorship deals, would Stewart Robertson who was on the SPFL board have signed off on a deal as SPFL board member or as OFFF CEO knowing what was coming down the line if his club had a vote? That's up to the SPFL board to sort out, so no TV income at all or some TV income, what would the board do, and if the clubs did vote what would Motherwell, Dundee Utd, Hibs and Hearts want, some TV money or no TV money?
Most club chairman etc are business men and not many of them will cut off their nose to spite their face.}
