It's 40 years ago today I witnessed Celtic clinching the title for the first time.
Celtic beat St. Mirren 3-0 on the final day of the season in 1982.
Celtic went into the match only needing a draw and it was goalless at half time.
Aberdeen needed Celtic to lose and Aberdeen also had to beat Rangers at Pittodrie by at least 4 goals to steal the title.
Aberdeen were leading 4-0 against Rangers at Half-Time.
The pressure was now on Celtic but they finally got their act together in the second half.
I was in the old Rangers end and I got a good view of all 3 second half goals.

98 was my first title win memory, I was 14 at the time, thankfully most Celtic fans nowadays haven’t had to wait that long to see us win the championship. The hilarious thing is, last season was the first season in my 9 year olds living memory that Celtic DID NOT win a treble! Hard to get yer head round for those of us of a certain age ?.

DRB,
In 1983 Dundee Utd won the league by 1 point ( it was only 2pts for a win )
In the last game of the season Celtic and Dundee Utd were both away to their city rivals with Dundee Utd 1 point ahead and 2 goal difference ahead.
At half time Dundee Utd were winning 2-0 at Dens Park and likewise Rangers were leading 2-0 at Ibrox.
Celtic would need a 6 goal swing in the second half to tie with Dundee Utd and a 7 goal swing to win the league.
Celtic came back to win 4-2 at Ibrox and Dundee Utd held on to a 2-1 victory at Dens Park to seal their first and only title.
If Dundee had equalised to make it 2-2,a Championship playoff would’ve been required because both clubs would’ve finished on the same points.
Both clubs would’ve also scored 90 league goals and conceded 36 league goals each.
In the end Dundee Utd won the league by 1 point and finished 1 goal difference ahead of Celtic in 2nd.
I think Aberdeen also had an outside chance of winning the league that day if results went their way but Dundee Utd raced into a 2-0 lead inside the first 8 minutes and Celtic were 2-0 behind at Ibrox in about 20 minutes.
When McGarvey scored to make it 3-2 at Ibrox, you can see him saying he wanted 2 more goals to have a chance of winning the league on the day.
It wasn’t to be but Dundee done us a favour 3 years later in 1986.

I forgot to mention that Rangers scored 2 massive deflections to go ahead 2-0 but Celtic still played well and had 9 corners in the first half.
The Celtic fans showed their appreciation for our first half efforts and sang “You’ll Never Walk Alone” throughout the half time at Ibrox.
It spurred the Celtic players on and Celtic were finally rewarded with the victory we deserved.
Although the league was lost the Celtic fans stayed behind and were singing for 30 minutes after the final whistle. ?.

I was also born in 84, I remember the 98 last day of the season well, it was a cracking sunny morning and I couldn't settle until Brattbakk slotted home the second, Great day.
