Anyone else greeting that John McGinn is now being touted as a £40m pound player to Man' Utd.

If only he picked us eh?

Agree0 Disagree0

I wasn’t too bothered at the time.
I thought he was a good player but nothing special.
But I was wrong because McGinn is a great player and one that definitely got away.

He wouldn't be a £40m player if he played for us.

Actually Stubbsie, NO I'm not.
We fans/ supporters know what we're told, how much of that is based in truth I suspect is a very small percentage ?.
Good luck to John and his family, I wish them well.

He was a stand out with Hibs like John Collins before him. A half a half a wit could see that. If we were bargain hunting shame on the Celtic board. If he just didn’t want to come then there is nothing we could have done about it. Only John himself and him with the heated driveway know and we may never. Either way he was the natural successor to Scott Brown and a massive massive loss. Fantastic player. It makes you wonder what Paul McStay would be worth though.

Ditto Buzz

I really didn’t think he was much better than we had at the time and even heard a rumour from a really good source that BR wasn’t that fussed about signing him as he thought his decision making was questionable and he tried too many World Cup passes. But the boy is definitely a bit of class now. Big miss.

JFP, as you well know the Maestro was priceless and he was Celtic through and through.

The best thing to come out of Larkhall by a country mile ?.

Henriks' T - you are quite correct that he would not be a £40m player if he was with us. However, that is just a monetary figure and as you know there is not a player in our league that would go for that - it's just the economic realities that we currently find ourselves swimming in. Sometimes I think if a young Maradona was playing for us then the EPL (or others) wouldn't pay anywhere near what he is worth as they always think he has "not been tested". JFP1888 - whatever Maestro was worth, we weren't getting it! That is very slowly changing as is evidenced by KT's fee.

He may not be categorised as a £40m player up here but that doesn't mean he couldn't have performed like one. He has improved his game somewhat as he is playing in a better team. It's my assertion that his development trajectory with Celtic would have been the same. He obviously had talent in abundance at Hibs as JFP said. What a player he would have been for us IMHO.

I think we offered £3m for him if memory serves me right but I have obviously no idea about the package he was offered. Would it have made any difference to his decision to go South if we had met his personal terms? Were we victims of a certain Lawell baulking at a few extra bawbees? Was his mind made up no matter what we offered? Was it a grudge between Hibs and ourselves? As Pedro says we don't really know.

All I do now is I'm greeting!

He did pick us but Lawwell tried to play hardball with Hibs when the lad was at Paradise to sign and that's when Hibs said, 'Feck off Peter! HH.

Pedro

I reckon the village I came from was worse than the Maestros.

Does he play for Celtic? Pointless thread.

20 Jan 2022 14:40:25
Welshy - does football begin and end with Celtic? Pointless comment.

He wouldn't have got enough game time at Celtic, because a certain player had to be in the team, even though McGinn was and is a far superior talent, McGinn knew this and that's why he went south, well that's my opinion.
