What was your best New Year game and why?
My best game was against the Old Rangers in our Centenary year when Celtic won 2-0.
I didn't know my dad Won a massive bet against his fellow workmates until McAvennie scored his and our 2nd goal.
My Dad's favourite New Year game was when Celtic beat the Old Rangers 5-1 in 1966.

I had a feeling you would come on and mention the same game in ‘66.
The Rangers goalkeeper that day was Billy Ritchie and he was a brilliant man.
He taught me in Motherwell College back in the day.
We had good banter and I used that 5-1 New Year game against him.

Buzz Bomb it was a really cold day and straw had been laid to protect the playing surface, it was still pretty hard but Celtic handled it better, I think most of the Celts had sand shoes on (or gutties what they were called in those days) .

@Buzz and oldkilly yes I was there as Max Boyce used to say (ask your grandad who he was lol)
It was one of the very first old firm games I was allowed to attend with my uncle under strict instructions to "watch me like a hawk"
I seem to remember the winters were always much colder back then (oldkilly do you remember the straw they used to put down on the Parkhead pitch to try and get game played, no undersoil heating in those days ha ha)
It was a typical winter's day FREEZING FOG but big Jock was beginning to work his magic and all us Celtic fans could not believe the final score 5-1 we literally were in PARADISE
This next part my memory failed me and I had to look back to recall that because of the slippy icy underfoot conditions, big Jock made our bhoys wear trainers which gave them more control on the slippy pitch.
Oldkilly can you remember too big Yogi John Hughes wear SANDSHOES in one winter's game and he ran riot and scored 4 or 5 goals.

Timalloy it was against Aberdeen Yogi scored 5 I think it finished 7 or 8 nil.

I seen a video clip last night and Chris Sutton mentioned his goal in the first minute.
He reckons it was marginally offside and that’s the last good decision Celtic have had against a club playing out of Ibrox.

1998 game when Burley opened the scoring then Lambert smashed an absolute belter into the top corner. Brilliant day and really got us believing we would stop the oldco getting 10.
