What's more important tonight?

Increasing the co-efficient, extra money for winning and giving the fans who bought a ticket value for money. Or, resting first team players for games coming up, protecting first team players from possible injury and giving the second string a run out?

My personal preference is to go win the game with the strongest team we have. It's all very well giving bench warmers and sick notes time but we also need to continue the development of the first team too. A first team that has been found wanting at this level so far and in itself needs the experience at European football to progress at this level. Remember this team hasn't been together for that long and are still finding each others strengths and weaknesses.

Getting that automatic Champions League place every year is a close run thing between us and a couple of other countries - we need to keep the points coming in.

Are Real Betis treating this game as a training exercise or are they at full strength?

That’s a good, well framed, post Stubbsie, and lays out the options and the pros and cons of the options very eloquently.
It well illustrates the dilemma facing the modern day manager. Tailor teams for the long haul or try to win every game put in front of you? Tough choice in modern day, intensive football (teams now play a lot more games per season than they did in my halcyon days) .
I suppose that’s why the football authorities have introduced coefficients and attractive prize money. They want to keep the teams playing and competing.
Personally, I think Celtic should be fielding it’s strongest possible team every time, but I’m old fashioned. I have seen cup competitions in both Scotland and England devalued over the years for just this dilemma.
Ah well. As I say, I’m old fashioned. It will be interesting to see how the young, football manager playing posters deal with the question you pose ?.

We need to keep our main players turning over. Why not play them all? It helps the team gel even further for the remainder of the league and that has to be our priority.
Giving the young lads some experience is important too so if Ange uses his subs wisely he can come close to having the best of both worlds. HH.

I think most supprters who pay good money to watch Celtic expect to see the best team available playing the Celtic way to win the game. On the other hand we have a paper-thin first team choice of quality players that have suffered many injury problems so far, mounting a challenge on three fronts (plus Internationals) ; while a good few squad players, some twiddling their thumbs that need game time and a chance to impress or 'the usual suspects' picking up wages that may face the possibility of the 'exit' next month?
Once Ange has had another 'window' or two I'm sure he will build a decent squad of two decent players for each position and we can rotate to accommodate every game with our similar high standards.

Games a dead rubber, need to play our back ups and give a few of the 1st team a rest.

{Ed007's Note - The team sheet's up on the rumours page.}

Our main objective at the beginning of everu season is win trophies. We can't win Europe league.

What an interesting team. It’s a long, long time since I watched a Celtic reserve match (Dalglish was playing I seem to recall) .
I’m looking forward to this ?.
