So if the only incomings are the 2 Boys today, are we stronger or weaker this window,

Agree0 Disagree0

31 Aug 2021 13:39:36
Much weaker, by a mile.

31 Aug 2021 13:49:59
Weaker and still not sorted out the defence or midfield.

31 Aug 2021 13:51:34
Weaker and only Cal-mac that would get the plc any decent money to bail them out. Sold all our quality and bought poorly. Bank balance csc.

31 Aug 2021 14:03:03
Defensively still very weak. Hart and Juranovic are the only decent defensive additions so far. Going forward we are far stronger compared to last year.

{Ed007's Note - So we got rid of Jonjoe Kenny, Laxalt and Duffy, we sold Ajer, replaced Barkas with Joe Hart, Ralston's playing out of his skin as is young Welsh and we've brought in Starfelt, Juranovic and Liam Scales plus the youngster Urhoghide, young Montgomery is part of the first team squad and Taylor is still here yet you're saying our defense is weaker than it was last year? Oh and Jullien has still to return.}

Thats my thought lads, ajer over starfelt at the minute you'd have to say, rb has improved keeper has improved, lb still weak, broony gone jury out till Mccarthy starts playing, kyogo upgrade on eddy, Christie for a young loanee, abada looks inconsistent and he's young, as yous are saying I feel we're weaker, he needs another 2 at least,

In an ideal world I'd be delighted if we brought in a CB and if possible someone like McCann or Ferguson to bolster the Midfield but that's unlikely and even if we did, there would be some on here moaning.

Ange rocked up late to a rubbish show and that, along with blowing the Ten, is on the board and a group of players who downed tools last year.

Of those players, those who wanted out of CP 12 months ago and then couldn't be arsed when they didn't get to leave;-

* Ntcham - gone on a free
* LG - papped to Dundee
* Eddy - about to be sold
* Christie - about to be sold

* Ajer who did want away but still put in a shift has been sold.

Ange, by the end of this, his first Transfer Window will have brought in the thick end of a dozen players. Reality check here, this isnae FIFA on the X-Box.

If you think getting every player in that Ange wants inc their availability, transfer fee and wages as well as fitting into his system of play, in one transfer window is realistic, then your dillusional.

Our defense collectively certainly isn't stronger than last year. We have a better GK and RB for sure. Is Welsh a long term solution I'm not so sure! I'd rather play Jullien than Starfelt but then again I'd rather just have 2 decent CB's for a change. Hopefully Scales is a player.

{Ed007's Note - Yeah that brilliant defence we had last year with Barkas, Kenny and Laxalt, what were the board thinking of not signing those 2 permanently?
The only big loss to the defence was Ajer - a player a lot of supporters said was never a CB - so even looking at the numbers and the players we have available there is absolutely nothing to prove our defence is weaker than last year.
Welsh could very well be a long term solution, he's played well domestically and in Europe and over the next couple of seasons if he progresses as it's expected and hoped he does I see no reason why he can't become good enough to become a first choice pick for Celtic in years to come, he's certainly good enough right now to be a back-up along with Ralston if he keeps proving everyone wrong.
Has Welsh been performing better than Duffy did? Is Ralston playing better than Kenny did? Even Taylor who has been struggling is doing a better job than Laxalt, Juranovic showed on Sunday that he is capable of playing at LB so he's an improvement on Kenny, Laxalt and Taylor but he'll need to work his socks off to claim that RB spot on the form Ralston's showing just now.}

What's wrong with you Celtic fans we are building a new team a new manager a new way of playing. It will take time. Why all the negativity We are looking gd two tough games just had there and we coped well. We are not that far away. The players who are leaving many on here believe they should be leaving I for one agree with that. Eduard Christie etc. Let Ange do his thing and judge around Xmas.
I do have one concern it's the McCarthy deal wwhy? He's not young in football years injury prone. Still not up to speed. No resale value he is the only one who I would question.
But I will give him a chance and support him.

Fact is we are stronger than we were last season all of this outrage over a 1-0 loss to rangers. Get a grip.

31 Aug 2021 14:57:10
ED007 the lad Urhoghide looked good in pre season but big Ange has not given him a run out since. I realise he is young and inexperienced and Ange had to play strongest teams up to now but I hope the boy gets some game time, even in a league cup tie as I think he could be a gem in the making. He looks a unit too big and powerful
Oh and some of these new posters, one above in particular I think mis spelled his moniker, take the "P" (which he is ) and replace with an "H"

{Ed007's Note - There's Dane Murray and Bosun Lawel in the Colts team as well, the little I've seen of Murray he looks impressive for his age and Paul has a bromance going on with Lawel, he can't speak highly enough about the lad.
I'm hoping that now we have someone like Ange in we will see a lot more of the young players being given their chances to see what they can do - at appropriate times and in certain matches like the Raith Rovers game, I don't mean a team full of youngsters a la Alex Ferguson etc but surely we can start with 3/4 young lads against Raith and even add another couple when/if the game is tied up.}

@kenlikerh
I agree I think we are stronger. And better. The rangers game was close and that was virtually there main team against us. a we are just getting started and we matched them I believe we can do this in our first season.

Adding numbers gives us depth but adding quality gives us strength. In the big games so far Welsh and Starfelt haven't produced the goods. We lost the Glasgow derby to a set piece. We can debate who was picking up Helander but you need your CB's to win the important headers. It was Welsh failing to deal with a ball over the top that led to the howler by Joe Hart in Alkmaar. Az tore Welsh and Starfelt apart at times over the 2 legs. Then there was the Starfelt O. G. We already know Jullien's a lightweight. We need better imo.

{Ed007's Note - Young players make mistakes and Hart was as much to blame for the goal against AZ as Welsh, Starfelt's struggled to settle as well as others but he's nowhere near as bad as people are making him out to be, it wasn't Starfelt's job to mark Helander but again it's isolated incidents and apart from shooting ourselves in the foot the defence coped well against AZ for large parts of the game.
The OP asked if if we are stronger or weaker than last season if it's only Jacko and Jota that come in and you said the defence is but you haven't said why.
Are you saying that last season's defence would have coped with AZ over 2 legs, Barkas, Duffy, Laxalt and Kenny would have coped with AZ over 2 legs?}
