Didn’t watch the game went out for a wee swally with the wife. I remember when we would beat English teams consistently in pre season and then win fk all games over means fk all. Next week is where it begins in ange we trust.

{Ed007's Note - Did today's game tell us the fans, Ange or the board anything they didn't already? There's another massive overreaction to a meaningless game, Welshy but don't forget TRIFC drew with Arsenal a week ago so apparently we're already miles behind them...

Mark, it didn't tell Ange or the board anything they didn't already know but with a bit of luck it'll give them all the kick up the hole they need to sort it out. HH.

{Ed007's Note - If I had asked this morning - and we spoke about it on the pod last night - what should our priority be signing wise I (would have and most people would have agreed I think) said a RB is a MUST, we need a CB and even with Starfelt due in we still need another one, even a loan until Julien's fit, a first choice LB - I like Taylor but he's never good enough to be first choice especially in bigger games - and Barkas is looking as suspect as he did last year even though he's impresses in preseason.
So what's changed?
Why are people despairing over a result in a meaningless game against a team that finished 6th in the Pub League and were chasing a CL spot to the death when we know we were playing with a makeshift defence that will look completely different in a week or two?
Honestly, Besty, there's a massive over reaction to this result, you're old enough to know that these games mean hee-haw in the grand scheme of things.}

Ed its not an over reaction, West ham were missing key players, we don't even know if our signings are key players (can't be worse than what we have) so today showed us how far we need to develop, West ham actually never played well.
Meaningless friendlies can only be an excuse from time to time, today we lacked quality easy to see, of the board know about it we wouldn't be going into a qualifier with this team?

{Ed007's Note - It's a preseason friendly though, what did we win, how many points did we get? Preseason games are meaningless friendlies, the results are meaningless and all they are for is to get fitness/sharpness up and let the fans have a few days out to see new signing etc.
It's like moaning about the results in a testimonial.}

Since the Ferencvaros game last year we all knew what was needed was a defence manager and a keeper. That game we had Barkas Jullien Ajer Frimpong Taylor and Elhamed and they couldn't cut it. Calmac Forrest Ntcham Ajer Christie Ajeti Biton Ntcham and Bolongoli were part of the squad.

ED don’t think I’ve ever disagreed with you but I think the reaction from the guys tonight is spot on, I don’t look into friendlies to much, you can have a great preseason and then a disaster of a campaign or vice versa, but it was the manner of the defeat today, I was actually embarrassed today and it could have been 8, and I think they took they’re foot of the gas and they were missing 4 or 5 starters, although your 100 % right the game meant f#cl all, to me personally it felt like it could be how the season will go and that is a major worry . Silver lining is could be the motivation to get more bodies in although you would think there was already enough motivation to do so.

{Ed007's Note - But we know that our starting defence today isn't going to be our defence as time goes on, why react that like, Ralston, Welsh, Murray and Taylor got ripped apart with a team worth how much? Let's at least try and keep it realistic, KP.}

I can remember being at Celtic Park as a youngster and we got hammered by Arsenal 5-1 in a pre- season friendly.
Our fans were fearing the worst because we lost a few influential players for that season but Celtic still managed to win the double in our Centenary Season.
At least we know which positions need strengthening.
Please get them strengthened and we can take it from there.

{Ed007's Note - 👍

Just watched game on celtic tv . as a whole the performance wasn't as bad as the scoreline looked to me at work. some of our play was nice on the eye just a bit more incisive
I the final third. what their goals highlighted was our problem areas. all of their goals should / could have been avoided . we need starfelt to be good and possibly another cb depending on juliens whereabouts in his rehab. we need a new goalie. a new right back and a striker. possibly two. positives . apart from a slack pass mmurray looked good again . adaba looked dangerous . and young robertson looked composed in cm.

Mark, I'm older and wiser than many know.
I also know friendlies aren't the be all and end all of preparation but the reality is that we're rubbish and disjointed at the minute. Today simply exposed that as fact. West Ham don't play in the SPL (thankfully) but they came to our playpen and took all our toys.
We can hide behind the meaningless friendly story all we like but the truth is, and correct me if I'm wrong, we're a rubbishshow of a team and even Ange isn't happy with how things have progressed. Why are we solely looking at players who have to quarantine for 329 days or whatever? There are foreign players in the UK who don't need to make that transition. There are many decent players in Scotland who would improve us considerably and they'd only need to change one digit of the bus number they need to get here. Starfelt and Furuhashi might turn out to be fabulous players, I sincerely hope they do, in fact I feckin pray that they do because we need a significant contribution from somewhere. HH.

{Ed007's Note - So just buy players in Scotland so they don't need to isolate?? And on another thread you're going on about how poor the player recruitment and research has been for years??
That's the way to go 😂😂

Ed when you see Barkas Welsh Murray Ralston Taylor on the team sheet you know it's going to go horribly wrong.

{Ed007's Note - Exactly, especially against that level of opposition. Serious questions over Barkas, It's sad but Ralston is nowhere near Celtic class, Welsh needs experience next to him and is a great young player imo, Murray is young and needs protection (and experience) next to him and Taylor can do a job at SPFL and hopefully he can learn and improve under Ange but he'll only ever be a squad player for us.
Was anyone actually surprised that defence was torn apart - in a meaningless friendly - or is it just another excuse to have a moan about the exact same thing they were moaning about yesterday?}

Mark, I'm saying we should also be looking at buying more 'accessible' players who can be influential for European games (and the club's preparation for the season ahead) in the short term without the C.V. restrictions but also bring a positive contribution in the long term.
Did I say anywhere that we should only be looking at players who fit the 'Lisbon Lions' geographical standards?
Like I said before, you have you're your opinion and I have mine, like everyone else, but who's to say one is more important than the other?
You do a fabulous job of running the forum, I 've told you that before, but that doesn't mean I'm wrong and you're right. There's no benefit for anyone in the long term if you think that a sharp comment proves your point purely because of your control of the forum. HH.

{Ed007's Note - You might be older and wiser than many know but nobody mentioned that or anything about the Lisbon Lions, you said:

"Why are we solely looking at players who have to quarantine for 329 days or whatever? There are foreign players in the UK who don't need to make that transition. There are many decent players in Scotland who would improve us considerably and they'd only need to change one digit of the bus number they need to get here."

And on another thread you said:

"Our club's research on players is rubbish and has been for years."

So should we do our research on players and sign the best we can or just sign players that meet the quarantine and work permit restrictions immediately?
It's nothing to do with opinions - and it's nothing personal even though you seem intent in taking it that way - it's about you contradicting yourself on different threads.
If it was about opinions you'd have the same one across the board.}
