Today will be unusual because supporters will be travelling to Celtic Park and Ibrox on the same day.
I think the last time it happened in competitive games was a few weeks before the 1980 Scottish Cup Final Riot Match.
Celtic were at home to Hibs and Rangers played at home to Aberdeen at the end of March 1980 on the same day, but the riot in May 1980 made sure it wasn't to be repeated in competitive football.
The most fans I can remember going to both grounds at the same time since, was in 1994.
The Celtic fans were banned from a full house Ibrox and 12,000 Celtic fans went to the reserve game at Celtic Park which was being played at the same time.
It's crazy to think that 2 European Semi Finals were being played at the same time in Glasgow.
Celtic played Inter Milan and at the same time Rangers were playing Bayern Munich at Ibrox in 1972.
There was about 140,000 fans combined attended those games in a busy Glasgow that night.

Hi Ghuys, read every day but rarely post. Buzz, am I right in thinking it happened on our ill fated Euro night in Mov 85 against Rapid Vienna, I'm sure Inter Milan were at Ibrox that night, and because of the half hour delay during our game, we got caught by their fans afterwards on Duke St as they had time to get there! Carnage ensued, buses were attacked.

Guys this will be the first test of the "dignified open to all sevco club's fans" to their team taking a knee
Let's see how they react.

Great shout Tonybhoy.
I was only 10 years old in 1984 but I remember both ties home and away.
I wasn’t at the Rapid game.
I didn’t know the return games were on the same night. 👍.

That Rapid Vienna game TonyBhoy, pretty sure I was in the jungle for that one. If memory serves me correctly the coin came from about 30ft in front of me.

Where did those years go 🤔.

I was just turned 16, lived in Blackpool at the time (as I do again now) and came up for it. I was slap bang in the middle of the jungle, was it not a bottle thrown? Landed about 10 feet away from a player who then went down? It was to the right of us. I was lucky that the rearranged game in December was at Old Trafford, my Maths teacher took me! Loved those Eurooean nights in the jungle! Sporting Lisbon, Juveniles, Ajax and Real Madrid! Great memories.

TonyBhoy68 you are correct regarding it being a bottle, I was in the jungle in line with the 18 yard line the bottle was nowhere near the player he was getting treatment for ages. The St. John ambulance crew treated him as well and said there was no injury to the player yet he was bandaged up like Peter Brady ( the invisible man) older posters will know who he is. I’d rather not talk about the replayed game at Old Trafford.

{Ed007's Note - The bottle incident is around the 19:40 mark

Awww TonyBhoy, they probably only saw the bottle but I'm sure I saw a coin fired onto the park.

As JFP says this feckin club of ours tugs at the heart strings allright!

Maybe there's a hint of nostalgia but some of those European nights from the 80's - man, I wish I had a Tardis.
