With the news breaking today that strachan is getting the top job at parkhead, I’m struggling to see many positives. We hired a firm of headhunters to find us a modern dof, and we turn back to someone in his 60s who is working for Dundee . Don’t get me wrong but he done well for us as a manager but that was over 10 years ago. He spent all last season on Celtic tv telling us there wasn’t much wrong with us as we watched the season unfold dramatically. He continually bigged up the board, he won’t go in and demand money off them to drastically improve us, can anyone imagine jnr being released now or Kennedy and ange bringing in his own men . We have gone from Harkin who has massive contacts with young players as that’s his job at city, a market we actively shop in, to this backward step. Another easy option taken by the board to insulate themselves again. A modern forward thinking club, we are not .

Strachan knows his football he is not a fool when it comes to football and he did better than well for us 3 league titles in a row took his last league season at us to the last day and also got us into the last 16 of champions league TWICE ac milan goal was a sickner it could have been last 8. turned over teams like man u and ac milan who were major forces at the time.

Ui, I’m not denying strachan done well but Milan was 14-15 years ago. I’d be saying the same if Oneil was brought in. Football has moved on and I feel we needed and in fact the word from the club was that we needed modernising. I’m struggling to see how this modernises us.

Always felt Strachan was harshly treated by large section s of the fans. Even during games where we were 2 up there'd be people sitting moaning about him. Always seemed to have an averagely talented squad punching above their weight and getting good results.

All I can say about Strachan is that he is a better manager than Lenny, if it is true about him getting a top job at Celtic, then I see that as a way, way backward step.

20 Jun 2021 10:51:00
Totally agree what u said only problem that those achievements are a manager job he not coming in as a manager.

he will not be able to keep his wee nose out of the team. jnr will be in the backroom reporting back to daddy. big ange will walk. this pantomime just gets worse by the day. if mckay is allowing this then he is just a puppet to desmond. am away to bed for a couple of years.

PK that is the concern, An average squad punching above their weight. Is that what we are to expect next season? The players being linked seems to point to that. The latest being a Brazilian CB for €1m or an Oxford CB to replace Ajer. I get the squad needs some shrewd reinforcements but if this is the caliber of players we are replacing our best players with then it reeks of downsizing. My concern with WGS would be he'll be happy to just shop only in the Scottish league or lower leagues in England which doesn't give me confidence of winning back the league.

Love Gordon but it’s a backwards step bringing him in.

20 Jun 2021 13:40:57
There's nothing decided or official but it wouldn't faze me, he knows football inside out, why would it be a negative because he's 60 doesn't mean he doesn't know football he has the cv so why not fergie retired at 70.

20 Jun 2021 14:03:31
That’s a good assessment Quinn.

20 Jun 2021 14:31:22
Quinn you are spot on. The club is saying we have to come into modern times look too the future I can't see that the Strachan story coming to anything IF they are serious about moving the club forward and to the future. Surely it will be someone with a more modern approach to football?

20 Jun 2021 19:40:32
so should every one involved with football at Strachan's age just chuck football if this is how modernising a club is seen if you know football you know football and he knows it. i think the board will be modernising it in a way it brings in more cash commercially and we make more cash of player sales we produce . look at the teams down south all there new stadiums are basically shopping malls with a football pitch in the middle. true football is gone.

20 Jun 2021 20:04:35
No not saying anything about his age and he was a good manager But I don't think he has a modern way of looking at football just my opinion.

20 Jun 2021 23:26:20
I have no issue with Gordon Strachan but if we signed him in any capacity, it would be a backwards step.

We've got a new head coach on the cheap (no offence to big Ange) , the 'level' of player we start signing will soon show how ambitious and forward thinking our board are.

I'm still in disbelief at what took place last season and nothing that our board have done so far suggests to me that the massive improvement we require is anywhere on the horizon.

Quinn, the club never said he was getting the job.
It now appears he isn't and never was so please stop reading the media rubbish as if it's fact. HH.
