These big international tournaments have always had something that pleases me immensely - the willingness of international managers to throw in 17 and 18 year olds into their team.
How is it that we, at Celtic, struggle to do that in the SPL?
Is it reluctant managers, uninspired coaches, the fear factor, or that they are too lightweight for our league and would get launched into row Z or something else? It is clearly not that they are not good enough as evidenced by a host of top clubs prizing them away from us.
It's no wonder they want away if they are rarely getting a chance.
I hope Big Ange may be more trusting and progressive.

Remember wee karamokos debut against the jambos. He got launched into the air by one of the hearts cloggers who then walked away thinking job done. Wee Kara just picked himself up and carried on running though, much to the surprise of the clogger.

Stubbsieshorse we discussed this on the Podcast loads of time. It's a bit of all I think. Neil Lennon wasn't able to help young players develop and clearly didn't trust them to play. Light wait is a good shout aswel look at Mickey Johnstone and Dembele very light but that shouldn't effect them on the pitch. No reserves football and after under 18s there are no league for them to play in. For years we sent our young players out on loan to get games but you still need them to be around our for our coaches to improve them. Your right a lot of young players have left recently due to the lack of first team football and no clear path for to get into first team. With the Colt teams starting this year our young players will be much needed game time. There are for and against for the Colt team, the standard of football and injuries our young players could get in the league. But we can't judge the Colt team at the moment until we watch it in mid July when it starts.
With Ange Postecoglou the new manager and he is a big believer in youth players we can hope the get a chance to play under him if they are good enough.
A Club like Celtic can't afford financially if we can't produce our own young academy players as the transfer market now is so expensive.

My hero was Jinky and I watched him right through the 60's getting some very heave tackles and double-teamed in many, many games, yet he was the height of a rubbish - but had the heart and courage of a lion. Nowadays, players have health and fitness coaches and a variety of gyms and body building aids. The best coaches will give youth a chance at the right time; However, the player has to have the ability, confidence and temperament to succeed to start with.

Managers are mostly conservative, they would rather rely on some who is more experienced, older, who have played for them before, these managers are a Bain on football, Celtic have been cursed with a few of them, they are scared to give youth a chance, if you are good enough, you are old enough, if I was the Celtic manager last season, I would have young Robinson, (Robertson) , as the first name on the team sheet.

I think the problem with SPFL managers is they are under loads of pressure to win every game they don't want to take a chance on youth until they have nothing to play for.
