The point is, if Jack Hendry had no connection to Celtic, and we were looking for a centre half, we would be interested in him,6ft 4,very fast, mobile, getting great reviews in the Belgium league, but now it's, he wasn't good enough for Celtic, and he still isn't, I disagree .

Agree1 Disagree0

Knock me down with a feather: I’m in agreement with you Aindoh!

05 Jun 2021 11:50:46
Sorry aindoh but I disagree.
The problem with Hendry is he can’t defend.
He will lose his man at set pieces and he struggles with his timing, at basic blocking.
The positives for Hendry is he’s decent with the ball at his feet and centre backs mature with experience.
But it’s a No for me because he struggles with the basics.

And yet he has been the best player in Belgium last season Buzz.

{Ed007's Note - Paul Onuachu of Genk got POTY in Belgium.}

Seems that folk have a huge fascination with Hendry. You guys need to let it go. He was not and is not good enough for Celtic. Nowt has changed because he has done ok in a strange Belgium league. The teams in it get mixed result in Europe and if we managed to get him back and wanting to be at Celtic we would end up back at square 1 with our assessment of him. Let the boy go, and let’s move on lads.

He's pish end of.

05 Jun 2021 13:14:44
Different style of play in Belgium compared to the frenetic pace here, he got plenty of time to step out from the back. He may have improved massively but still think plenty of? marks still hang over him as mentioned.

Pukki was pish at Celtic and initially ripped the arse out the EPL with Norwich. The club and player have to be the right fit mentality and physically, with a manager that plays to players strengths. Playing for Celtic brings a lot more pressure to win every game and that affects performances, putting players/ managers under pressure.

05 Jun 2021 13:50:54
One good season in a team he fits in well with. If players are transfered from oostende this summer, he will get found out. If he is sold on from oostende to an EPL team, he will get found out.

Reminds me of Charlie Adam playing for Blackpool. Had a great season because Ian Holloway knew how to get best out of by surrounding him with fast players. Got his transfer to Liverpool, flopped badly and it was downhill. Same will happen with Hendry.

05 Jun 2021 14:34:56
The demands of playing for Celtic are greater. Both Pukki and Hendry proved they couldn't handle the pressure of playing for Celtic.
They both maybe look good at teams were the expectations isn't as high as ours. You need a mental strength as well as thr talent to wear and be successful in the Hoops.

05 Jun 2021 15:10:12
Auf that’s it same with Steve Clarke will always be a good manager at a small small club or nation

Lots of players and managers can’t handle being at a big club.

But then Celtic don’t act like a big club anymore so maybe Hendry would now feel at home.

05 Jun 2021 16:35:55
We should sign the guy playing beside or in front of Hendry, as he must be some player if he can make hendry look good.

05 Jun 2021 19:40:46
LAW, that could work the other way though, they could be totally gash making Hendry look like a superstar lol.

05 Jun 2021 20:51:22
That is a fair point lol.

The level of defending in the Belgian league is really poor. I'm not surprised that he's stood out a bit over there.

06 Jun 2021 09:52:38
"The level of defending in the Belgium league is really poor", really, and you know this because .?
Have you ever wondered why Belgium are the No 1 team in the world! Where/ how are they producing these players?
Here's a possibility, maybe Hendry is doing well in Belgium because the coaching is far superior to anything he received at Celtic Park.

{Ed007's Note - Out of Belgium's 26 man squad for the Euros only 2 of them play in the Belgian league. And with both Australia and Japan above Scotland in the FIFA rankings does that mean Ange has been coaching at a higher level than thre Scottish league for most of his career?}

The point is, where do the 24 not playing in the Belgian league come from. Coaching doesn't start with the first team, it starts early, at youth level, and should ripple through. Two questions for debate:
1. Why do other teams come to Belgium to acquire players?
2. Do young Belgian players see their ambitions outside the Belgian league?
For (1) you'd say because they are good, and for (2) , if that is so, is it something to knock. Regardless, the fact they are producing talent indicates the Belgians are doing something right. So if Hendry is doing well there, don't knock it.
As for Ange, possibly, I don't know. I'd say the level of coaching is relative to the level of players you have, and your opposition. If you coach at a low or high level, should it make a lot of difference? Your theories/ ideas are put to the test regardless of the level, as the vindication is if they work.
Good players can compensate for poor coaching, but that always has problems, particularly when you have to grind out results (and that's what wins leagues) . Good coaching can make mediocre players better, because they work in a structure, within a team. What the team has is a structure to fall back on if all is not going well, thus they can grind out results.
So, what is Ange? Has he had good players, or is he a good coach.

The board don't act or operate as a big club but the support does. Seen many players crumble under fan expectations.
