We've probably missed the boat with this one, probably down to bad coaching and Broony being un-droppable. If Ajer was to stay I'd love to see him pushed up to midfield, the way he carries the ball reminds me of a Patrick Viera type, very hard to stop. No doubt he"ll be off though and some other club will utilise him this way.

Ajer was originally bought by Ronny as a replacement for Brown as that was his natural position, It was BR that decided he was a better CB for some reason.
{Ed007's Note - Celtic signed Ajer to play as a CB, the player himself has said:
"I always knew I’d be a centre-back. As a young guy I felt it was better to play in midfield, develop there and drop back to defence later."
It was nothing to do with Brendan Rodgers, Ajer wasn't physical enough to play as a CB in the Norwegian league when he was still a kid so he was played in midfield until he grew and developed physically.}

If we didn’t insist on trying to convert tall midfielders into centre backs. He might have had role there. I agree he be more effective. We can’t afford proper ball playing centre back maybe that why we keep trying convert But all in all I hope he leaves Not good enough when comes right down to it If get decent offer I’d bite hand off An integral part of our worst defence in years He must shoulder a fair portion of blame Id keep Forrest Calmac Turnbull. Although I do agree P73, except, any signings should start at GK.
IMO we should splash the cash on the spine;- GK, x2 CB, CM/ CDM, Striker (5 players) .
Bring in Paddy Roberts, a couple of younger Scottish players and add to this those you've mentioned we should keep. That would make 12 players.
Making up the squad could be some of our younger players, Welsh, Henderson etc.
There are very good players available on a Free but time will tell how it pans out.

How many times does it need pointed out that fans are talking pish about Ajer being a midfielder before it sinks in.
He was not bought to be a DM
At Start he played several different positions
RB, CB, CM, AM AND STRKR. Let it go he is a CB
Young players positions change all the time as they get older.

Youre right Mally, he's a very mediocre CB, he's definitely a better right back. Kev what makes you think he can't be a very good midfield player? Just because he wasn't bought for that means nothing. If he continues to play CB his career will go nowhere.

The over 200 professional games at all levels he has played there mean nothing 😂.

He's still a relatively young guy Kev, and he's definitely a better RB than CB going by his performances in a Celtic Jersey. If you're saying that CB is going to be his position for the rest of his career then he will never play at the top level. His defensive positional sense is abysmal and his heading ability for a guy of 6ft 4 is poor. His strength is his strength and pace when he has the ball at his feet moving forward. Who knows what will happen in the future but I can see him eventually being a top class midfielder and I reckon if he moves to Italy or England he won't be used as a CB.

He thinks he is a CB, but he isn't. He can't head, gets bullied, gets often caught wrongside and is one of the main reasons we couldn't keep a clean sheet. Whether he is a RB or DCM is debatable. For me he is just an average player who is decent breaking forward but thinks he is Barasi or Beckenbauer.

Ajer is a poor defender doesn't dominate in the air for his size and not brave or nasty enough for cb imo.
