Martin Boyle from Hibs apparently available for £500k.
I think he'd do a job for us providing cover for Forrest.

Someone on here previously mentioned Ryan Gauld on a free. If Rogic is leaving as expected why not bring him in as well. Relatively low risk signing.

To me these are players who would supplement the squad and would allow us to stretch the transfer budget a bit further.

Martin Boyle, Ryan Gauld😂😂😂😂😂. Imagine them in starting XI with Ajeti, Barkas and co. Jeez are you Lennon in disguise?

18 May 2021 10:26:44
malky martin boyle for cover to Forrest is a good shout.

18 May 2021 11:38:53
I would rather we signed someone as first choice and have forest as cover.

Supplement being the key word above.

Forrest width and pace was missed badly this season. We had no natural alternatives and everything we tried came through the middle . It didn't take teams long to sus this.

Gauld, although playing in a poorer league is earning rave reviews. He won't be on anywhere near the wages Rogic is on and would provide good cover for Turnbull who will be our main CAM next season.

Shrewd signings of squad players will allow us to push the boat out a bit further to sign the right players for the starting 11.

But what happens when Forrest gets his usual injury lay off and Boyle is in the team. scary isn't it! We have just lost the league by 25 or so points ( whatever it is. lost count tbh) and your want Boyle and Gauld to bridge the gap? deary feckin me man.

18 May 2021 12:13:59
Del is Gauld not playing in the Portuguese top division? If so I'd say he's playing at a higher level than the SPL. Also got to laugh at people who turn their noses up at signing from Scotland. Apparently you need to have a fancy foreign name to play for Celtic 😂.

18 May 2021 12:26:03
Johnny hayes was the best non celtic player in the league. Boyle isn't even that.

18 May 2021 12:44:12
To put this into perspective, the last time we lost a league title by 20 odd points was the ill fated Barnes/ Dalglish era. This year we lost by a GREATER margin than the John Barnes team. That team still won a League Cup that year! That squad consisted of the likes of Larsson ( I know he broke his leg) , Viduka, Lubo, Mjallby, Petrov, Lambert etc! What did we do? Got O'neill in and added top drawer players - Sutton, Valgaren, Thompson etc.

This current squad consists of Ajeti, Barkas, Ajer, Forrest and you want to add Gauld and Boyle to it? Really?

18 May 2021 12:59:33
We should be looking for a replacement for Forrest, not an understudy.

18 May 2021 14:40:43
Gauld is playing in the Portuguese second division, but he is tearing it up, Kev83 has given us some good stats before. I would have him and I think he still has plenty of improvement in him.

18 May 2021 15:25:52
Ryan Guald is playing in the Portuguese Premier division Mal.

18 May 2021 15:51:46
Ryan Gauld’s team Farnese are second bottom in the portuguese premier league with one game to play .

18 May 2021 17:20:10
Players for cover should be down the pecking order. About 8 first team starters need bought asap and no more projects.

18 May 2021 18:09:20
I have never understood signing a player for " cover", if he's not better than what we already have then move on!

18 May 2021 19:28:57
My mistake it is the Portuguese Premier that he plays in. 9 goals and 7 assists this season in the league isn't bad for a team battling relegation.

Malky its impossible to complete a season with 11 players only. Its also financially impossible to only sign players who are better than those currently at the club. The likes of Man City and PSG can have a better go of it than most but they always purchase squad players. Even in the past going back to that O'Neill team you mention, players like Agathe and Sylla weren't brought in because they were better than what we had, they were brought in as squad players. That has continued over the years with players like Pearson, Hartley, Robson, and Scott McDonald. Most contributed but some did a lot more than others. My point is for the fee and wages Gauld and Boyle would likely command I think they'd be worth a punt. To be clear I don't see that as how to overhaul Sevco but it will help regenerate our squad.

I get the point that we need to sign players who will walk straight in to the first team and I fully agree with it but there's no chance we are signing 11 of them! I'd rather our transfer budget went towards signing 3 or 4 proven quality players rather than wasting £2M or £3M on 4 or 5 players like Shved, Klimala, Kouassi etc who are basically projects.

If your expecting "Top Drawer" players when the new manager is in place I think you will be disappointed. Those days are long gone. Back in the early 2000's we could at least compete in terms of wages with the English Premier league teams and most leagues around Europe. In this financial climate there would be no chance of signing a Chris Sutton or Alan Thompson from a premier league team like we did back in the day. I would say the last top drawer player we signed was Jan Venegoor of Hesselink. A dutch International in his prime signed from the Dutch champions at the time, we couldn't compete with that these days as these players are off to England, Spain or Germany for £25M+.

18 May 2021 22:25:28
It is not financially impossible to sign better players than what we already have. There is better players out there that would cost half the price of Ajeti and Barkas for example ( wouldn't be hard mind you) !

Of course we can't compete with the top clubs but can still find the next Dembele or Van Dijk for a couple of million instead of spending the guts of £10m on duds to sit on the bench.

A proper manager will hopefully have the tools to deliver the quality we desperately need👍.
