Kristopher Ajer. 22 years old. Almost 200 senior appearances for club and country.

Joined as a central midfielder and has been converted to a centre back.

In my opinion some of the stick he gets is unfair. To me he gives his all every game, always shouting, always shows for the ball, looks to drive the team forward and celebrates tackles like they are goals.

He's never really had a partnership with an experienced centre half at Celtic and as such his transition to centre half is somewhat self taught with many mistakes along the way.

He is our best centre half by a country mile but I actually don't think he is a centre half. I think he would be a brilliant central defensive midfielder.

Our midfield is too lightweight and too small. Turnbull, Calmac and Soro won't cut it moving forward. Don't even mention Christie!

Ajer would be perfect in there. He'd bring a physical presence, he's good on the ball, he can drive forward and most importantly he can put his foot through a tackle and would go in for a header at knee height. Our current midfielders, excluding Brown are a bunch of s****bags. The number of times they sprint to a player and when they get there they don't actually tackle is ridiculous. The more I see of Calmac I'm thinking Brown at his peak made Calmac look good beside him. As Brown has faded so has Calmac.

Having Ajer at CDM would allow us to get 2 new Centre Halfs in, both over 6ft, add to that a new striker who can challenge for a header and we would be a lot more of a threat at set plays and hopefully a lot better at defending them.

If we also manage to get 2 proper full backs in Ajer can easily drop back to make a 3 when needed.

Next season I'd offer Ajer a bumper new contract and the captains armband. I think that would be enough to persuade him to stay.

GK - New Signing
RB - New Signing who can attack and Defend
LB - new Signing who can attack and defend.
CB - Commanding and experienced
CB - Commanding and experienced

CDM - Ajer

CM - Turnbull
CM - Calmac (If he's committed, I don't think he is)

RAM - James Forrest
LAM - Elyounoussi

ST - New Signing.

Some of Ajer's better games were at right back as he has a terrific engine and carries the ball very well. Why successive managers have persevered with him at centre half baffles me as he is not particularly strong in the air and his man-marking is also dodgy. Maybe the player himself prefers that position? However, I hope the new manager can convince him to stay (as captain) and utilize him in his most valuable position, maybe even in Broony's old position? Another concern for me all season was goalkeeper and you just have to look at the difference McGregor made in our games against them, to see the difference a decent 'keeper makes. Even when our defense made mistakes or left gaps a decent last line of defense could have made a difference? I do not remember one game all season where I said Barkas, or Bain saved us there?

I'm with you on ajer, think he's been our best player this season by a mile and would love him to sign a long term contract. however deep down I think he will prob be another out the door this summer.

Celtic have always missed a trick by constantly playing Ajer in his unnatural left sided position.
Ajer is a good consistent performer but I reckon he would be outstanding on the right side.
Only Once ( or probably ever ) has Ajer played on the right side of central defence this season and it was in our New Year defeat at Ibrox.
I think he put there to cover Frimpong and it was his best performance of the season.
He will leave Celtic and become a very top player.
Playing out of position for all his years at Celtic will make him a better all round player in the long run.
But another club will benefit from his Celtic experiences.

Some really good points on Ajer, Del Bhoy. I wonder with a new Head Coach/ Manager coming in, if they said to him 'hey Kris do you want to play in the midfield', would he resign?
He's never a CB but fair play to him for persevering in that position - he's always played where he's been asked. The issue with Celtic so often is trying to fit square pegs in round holes and he's a prime example of that.

I must be in the minority as i think Ajer has been poor this season. Anything over 10 million i would sell. Not good enough.

OAB2, agreed. Barkas for me has been like a rabbit caught in the headlights anytime he's played and Bain, well, he's starting to annoy me - anyone going one on one with Bain, your money is on the opposition player and that's no good.

He has no positional sense. I think he would be excellent in centre midfield but I think we should take the money and reinvest it.

a very small minority imo dc hh.
