I loved Frank McAvennie as a player and unlike some of our other ex-players has not turned out to be a soup taker.

That being said, I had to laugh at his comments today, relating to Callum McGregor being our next captain.

In Frank's opinion Callum is too quiet to be the captain. However, if memory serves me right Paul McStay, who was also a quiet man, was our captain during Frank's second spell at the club and I have heard him waxing lyrically about him.

Anyway, Frank is just a boy fae the scheme (Milton) who was blessed with football ability instead of brains, so I won't hold it against him. Just found it funny how he had not thought his opinion through.

Talent can also make you a captain and that's where mstay always led from the front and so can callum.

Mcstay had big roy aitken behind him.

LAW and Mally

Paul McStay was simultaneously a quiet man-a class act-as hard as nails-and an excellent captain who led by example and played beside players that didn’t have a fraction of his ability. There has never been his equal in midfield since.

Agreed JFP, and although I like CalMac as a player, I have the feeling the new manager may bring in his own captain.

I don't think you will hear any of us disagree with you about McStay. Anyone that had the pleasure of watching him play will remember that talent forever.

I was just pointing out that you don't need to be like Scott Brown to be a great captain, which is what Frank McAvennie was suggesting.

@Deep River Bhoy - McStay did not have Aitken behind him when he became captain. Aitken had been captain up until he left for Newcastle. Aitken's leaving created the opening, which McStay filled.

Frank Mcavenny is a terrible pundit. Nothing against him but that ability is not in his wheelhouse.

Your bang on very well put anybody that had the pleasure and privilege of watching Paul McStay will indeed never forget his talent.

I like McAvennie but I take everything he says with a pinch of salt.
I mentioned to my wife only last week that McAvennie always seems to get his facts wrong.
If you double check his information, it will be more than likely to be wrong.

{Ed007's Note - Have you ever read his column in The S*n? Deary me 🤦‍♂️ it's bad enough writing for that $hite but to write that much $hite for them is mind boggling.}
