Ajer says after getting pumped off turkey 3-0 I need to be better at set pieces as he's at fault for a goal, no sh$t sherlock, good player poor defender always said that.

He has shown very little development and improvement in central defense although some his best performances for Celtic have been right back - especially moving forward. I don't know why he was switched from midfield to defense apart from maybe his height, as he is not particularly strong in the air and is a much better carrier of the ball with a long stride and a great engine. With Broony leaving I would have liked to see him as a defensive mid, but I can't see it?

Agree mally, shows heaps of ability but makes too many mistakes to be a top defender. Still believe he could play his best footy in a holding role.

For a big guy ajer he is so poor in the air. Can't recall any headed goal he ever scored.

Why has it taken him to have a nightmare game for Norway to say this. He has been causing us to lose goals all season, for a big guy he cannot defend.
Take the 8 million from Newcastle and spend that money on a decent centre half.

I like Ajer as a player and believe he brings something to the table but he's not a CB, never has been and never will be.
Like a few we've bought in recent years he's a big guy who doesn't punch his weight (Julian is another) and in Ajer's case he's been 'converted' to a Centre Half.
Whoever comes in as Manager has a desicion to make about Ajer's career at Celtic, it may come down to one of three options;
* play at RB
* play in midfield
* sold.

Mally that comment from the big man is most comical if we hadn't witnessed so many defensive blunders particularly from our CB's this disastrous season.

Look at the last sevco game easily out jumped and he's 6.5 in height and that's been all season.

Ter, I'm baffled that we have guy's the height of Ajer and Julian that are so bad in the air.
Not comparing ability (obviously) but I'm pretty sure the former greats, both CB's of AC Milan and Barcelona were both under 6ft (Baresi and Puyol) .

Ajer isn't a natural CB. it shows so often. The fact he is one of our best at that position, only highlights how woeful the others are. Our defence isn't a defence. It's just a bunch of guys who can't win a ball in the air and as long as that continues we will keep on getting worse. Teams getting a set piece anywhere near our goal is like awarding them a penalty. That needs to change.

I think if we keep ajer DM would be his best position. If u include him Julien another good CH and someone like Shaun Roooney of St. Johnstone as an example who is good in the air and loves a battle we suddenly have a bigger stronger team. Potentially Welsh and Hendry as back up it doesn't look so bad. Set pieces would improve and we can bully teams more when we have too.

Agree Raymond we need a stronger and more physical presence especially in defence but I can't see Hendry being here next season and based on the last two Scotland games, he shouldn't even make the bench.
Personally I'm looking for 2 new CB's with possibly Julian on the bench or to be sold and a 3rd to come in as back up along with young Welsh.
Has Bobo Balde got a nephew or young cousin oot there?
