If the rumours are true I'm absolutely gutted broony is leaving for Aberdeen. The guy again at the weekend proved there's still a place for him at Celtic, maybe not week in week out but surely a playing / coaching role could've been given to him? Wish to god Celtic would get their finger out and get this DOF and new manager nailed down. Getting bloody ridiculous now. How can anything positive get sorted going forward to next season while we're still messing about trying to get these positions sorted? And in the meantime due to the uncertainty broony is allowed to just walk away? Sick of this now Celtic.

Broony is a legend and deserves all the accolades going but he never played well on Sunday. Plays far to deep in midfield leaving a massive hole for other's to cover. When he gets the ball he slows play's down. Passes back and sideways and at no time on Sunday did he win game turning tackles, that he's famous for.

Very disappointing if true Scott Brown would have provided a degree of continuity during a period of transition.

In any other business he would have been retained even liquidators hold on to key senior staff for that very reason.

You telling me liquidators would renew a contract for a football player reported to be on £30,000 plus wages. When there job is to cut costs and save money.

23 Mar 2021 08:34:06
For what it's worth I thought Broony was excellent against Sevco and stayed deep to protect Welsh among other things to allow Cal-Mac and Turnbull to attack. However, Cal-Mac has been a shade of his best and the goals have dried-up, while Turnbull has one eye on the subs board The only good thing I would see from Broony taking another job, is to follow the path of Tommy Burns, learn his trade and come back?

I didn’t say anything about his existing remuneration or contract conditions being maintained.

Yes, I’m telling you liquidators who’s role isn’t to cut jobs or save money per se but to maximise the value of the particular asset would see value that retaining certain senior staff might make towards that objective.

Scott Brown by providing a degree of continuity during what is likely to be a period of massive transition could be considered to add value in that context.

You disagreeth why pray tell thou?

That’s the one plus point if he leaves that he learns his trade elsewhere like Tommy Burns and Billy McNeil before him.

It’s bad timing for me though for the reasons stated and he’d have been worth a further years contract.

Brown was one of our better performers on Sunday. He’s not there to be dynamic. He’s breaking them up, and he did it. Looked like he had more energy.

Losing him from the dressing room will be a huge loss because no one else has his drive or determination. McGregor certainly isn’t a leader (a though if he surprised if he was here next year) .

I can see a huge overhaul in the management and playing staff so brown is important for continuity imo. Especially if it’s a foreign manager. Id expect him to play less next year, but if he desperate to keep him around.

Degsy 👍.

Auf1888, I’m no sure what you watched on Sunday but it certainly wasn’t a poor performance from Scott brown. My god if you thought he was poor on the day what’s your opinion on christie, mcgregor, turnbull, edouard etc. Brown should definitely be kept on in a time of uncertainty and transition. You say he plays far too deep? Is that maybe because oor defence is rank rotten and needs some support? For me brown on Sunday was one of our best players on the day.

23 Mar 2021 09:47:03
auf1888 broony never played well what game were you watching he got man of the match. scott brown is just not the scott brown of a few years back. he has got old it happens but from the day he joined to the day he leaves he has been a great captain and leader for us and 100 percent a celtic legend.

Brown isn't there to be dynamic. That's just mental of course he is. How many games has he won for us by being dynamic in tackles.

United Ireland
You admit Broony isn't the same player but want to keep a declining player for sentimental reasons. How about this for a forward thinking idea we use his large salary to buy a player that isn't declining. Some time's the sticky plaster has to get ripped off. Agree with you that he's a Celtic legend but sadly all greats have to hang up there boots.

Shows how much our standard has fallen if everyone thinks Sunday's performance was acceptable. No drive, no commitment, no fight against a team that was out in there feet.

23 Mar 2021 11:31:38
You yourself said he’s not the same player. Neither is his role. He’s not there to be dynamic. Dynamic is box to box, tackling, passing. He’s effectively a block in front of the defence when we are out of position. He has space to move forward when we have the ball.
He dominated the midfield on Sunday. Their midfield wasn’t in it. They created practically nothing.
If you thought brown was bad, you must have hated Christie. McGregor has been awful this season and he wasn’t up to much on Sunday.
Brown, welsh, Ajer and laxalt were our best performers. Moi and Turnbull were decent. The rest were poor. And Christie created a new level of garbage performance on Sunday.

23 Mar 2021 11:32:30
Totally agree JFP, Broony would have provided a 'bridge' between the old and new at the Club from a footballing persepctive as he was ideally placed to fulfill that role.

Great player, professional, leader and an inspiration to so many of the younger players coming through at the club.

23 Mar 2021 12:18:38
Auf1888,firstly who has stated Sunday’s level of performance was acceptable? On the day I felt Celtic were the better team but not superb, secondly taking Sunday in isolation, if Celtic played as bad as your making out, why did it take Kennedy till the 75th minute to make his first substitution from 5 subs? Brown strolled that game on Sunday, there were far more bang average performances from players on that park than brown. Your quick to jump on browns performance, what about Kennedy as manager in the day? What did u make of his substitutions and timing of them?

23 Mar 2021 12:29:38
auf1888. were did i say i want to keep him i was defending him against your stupid assessment of he did not play well on sunday when he was man of the match. and for keeping scott brown yes i would like him to stay on as a player coach but concentrate more on the coaching side and have him as a option to add a bit of deph to the squad broony offers so much to this team off the field and it will be a big loss. as in terms of wages his wages would take a bit of a hit when he goes to a coaching role. but if he goes to Aberdeen i wish him all the best and always welcome back at celtic park and totally understand if he takes that move. 100 percent a celtic legend.

So he's changed roles now. That's a new yin still playing the same postion just getting slower and less effective in the midfield. It happens to all players.

GaryC
The debate was about Broony. I didn't give anyone pass marks on Sunday.

What makes Scott Brown a good coach. We've been bitten with this before. If he goes and earn his coaching stripes somewhere else. He will return to Celtic when the time is right. Personally i think we need a clean break going into next season.

Think sentiment is getting in the way of practicable decision making.

23 Mar 2021 14:41:07
auf1888 what makes anybody a good coach first time round and who is saying a coach for the first team. this has nothing to do with sentiment we all know scott browns ability and he would bring a lot to our youth set up he was already coaching the youths a few years back and gave it up to concentrate on having a final few good seasons for us.

23 Mar 2021 15:11:21
I’ve not always agreed that broonie should have been in the team this season as he was slowing down a bit with age. In European games he was making the odd mistake he wouldn’t normally have made a few years ago.
In saying that personally I would definitely have liked to have kept him on for another season, but on reduced wages . There is no way he is getting anywhere near 30 grand a week at Aberdeen, so there must have been room for manoeuvre . His experience would have massively helped with the obvious new incomings we are going to be bringing in.
He could have played the odd game, and who’s to say the new manager wouldn’t have connected with him and asked him to join his coaching staff? It happened with Kennedy with Rogers . He will be a massive miss to the club but he will go a legend and should always be welcome back.

Your wanting Scott Brown to stay as a player/ Coach and run the one of the youth team while taking a massive cut in wages. Fair enough.
