What sort a transfer kitty you think we need for rebuild. I think about 25 million depending on how many players go out the door could be more.

Agree1 Disagree0

The board spending £25 million is different from the supporters spending £25 million.
Peter Lawwell proved that recently when he said Celtic had spent £20 million on transfers but he forgot to mention, Celtic also received £25 million for KT.
If I want my club to spend £25 million this summer, it will be on top of the transfer money we receive for players who will leave in the summer.
I’m not saying that will happen, I’m only pointing out the difference.

04 Mar 2021 12:37:59
Totally get what you mean if we get 20m for eddy plus maybe another 20/ 30 million with others to go. We should be looking to invest at least half what we bring in on top of some of the season ticket money so realistically you taking 30/ 35 million should be spent but will it who knows.

04 Mar 2021 13:05:18
The 'kitty' will be sourced mostly from player sales and getting other unwanted or unsuitable players off the wage-bill.
If a manager like say, Howe, or even Keane (sorry JFP) has been approached, they will have had plenty of time to assess the squad, been made aware of contract situations and have a pretty good idea of who he wants and doesn't fancy - as well as the areas we are lacking.

04 Mar 2021 13:10:16
Dream on mate we’ll not be spending even close to that whether we sell eddy or not. We’ve had very little profit this year and that’s not how our club is run.

It's also worth remembering that when you buy a player, whatever the transfer fee, the total outlay (wages/ signing on bonus/ contract term etc) for that player is much more than just the fee itself.

As supporters we tend to focus only on the transfer fee, 3M / 5M and so on e. g. a player costing 5M, on 20K a week over a 4 year contract plus bonuses is costing the club around 10M quid.

{Ed007's Note - This could be a good to to show a breakdown on transfer monies again, this doesn't include wages.

(a) Transfer fee - the big number.
(b) Any levy applied by the local FA - 5% for the EPL.
(c) Tax due on the transfer fee - typically this will be VAT (at varying rates across Europe) some or all of which should be reclaimable.
(d) Agent fees - this may be to one or more agents.
(e) Tax due on the agent fees - typically this is VAT at the local rate where the agent bills from - it is not reclaimable.
(f) Intermediary fees - this may be to one or more sponging leeches (what do you mean you have a super agent?) .
(g) Tax due on the Intermediary fees - typically this is VAT at the local rate where the Intermediary bills from - it is not reclaimable.
(h) Signing on fee to the player (possibly including non-reclaimable VAT if the player is VAT registered).
(i) Legal fees.
(j) VAT on legal fees which is reclaimable.
(k) Moving/relocation costs for the player.
(l) VAT on moving/relocation costs which is reclaimable.
(m) Paying up insurance costs to the selling club (sometimes waived).
(n) Variables and tax on variables which may or may not be reclaimable) - these would typically include legal fees, moving/relocation costs, etc.. This was off the top of my head and I may well have forgotten something. The big numbers are the transfer fee, agent fees and possibly other intermediary fees (what do you mean you have a super agent?}

What is paid by the selling club would typically include:

(a) If the player is under 24 and moving between different football associations, a Solidarity contribution paid to his previous clubs responsible for his training - this is 5% of the transfer fee received (apportioned 5% of the contribution for each year from the season of his 12th birthday to the season of his 15th birthday and 10% of the contribution for each season from his 16th to 23rd birthdays).
(b) If the player moves to a higher category club (all clubs being categorised 1 to 4) then Training Compensation is due for the period of age 12 to 21. Compensation is due to all clubs when the player turns from amateur to professional and thereafter only when he moves from his final training club to another club. The initial training compensation is levied at the training costs associated with Category 4 clubs. The subsequent figure is agreed between the sides or tribuneral if necessary.
(c) Any monies owed to the player if he did not request a transfer - again this is 5% of the transfer fee received.
(d) Any monies owed to the player in terms of his contract (typically outstanding owed wages (not future wages) and bonuses).
(e) Any money contractually due to a previous club as the result of a sell-on clause.}

As I say it's all if buts and maybes but should we get maximum in on player sales say 50 million that might be dreaming but just say we do. Is it not reasonable to say we should spend 30/ 35 million replacing players. This be a summer like no other. Maybe MON first year close to it. We spent big then. We can do it again.

04 Mar 2021 13:36:42
Ed, that's the first time I've seen a transfer broken down like that - wow.
That adds up to whole lotta poppy!

{Ed007's Note - It's from Ed002, Pedro but it just shows how much £ is involved without the transfer fee which is all most supporters are really interested in.}

04 Mar 2021 13:58:55
Absolutely, much appreciated.

{Ed007's Note - 👍

Will totally depend on who goes out the door. We have excepted there will be a bit of a clear out so would expect us to spend to replace them.
However Buzz is right when he says what we think spending 25m is, is different to the board so i wouldn't expect us to spend more than we take in, unless we qualify for the champions league.

Lets hope we can get recruitment right this time.

04 Mar 2021 15:10:22
We got £25m for KT and spent £3m on his replacement. If that continues we will spend about £8m. Obviously we can't do that or we are toast and will once again miss out on the millions available in the CL. Eddy goes, no striker good enough to lead the line. Ajer goes, a huge hole. Christie as well. Do we replace them? We should but I'm. not convinced. The bottom line is, if the board try and continue the go cheap punt route the fans won't have it. Why woukd they even want to continue with their abysmal strategy that has seen a deed club overtake us? Criminal management. They gave cost us tens of millions, both the money wasted in a bus load of utter duds. Losing out in the CL by never being prepared and now we have lost the 10. It's not a just players we need to get rid of. If we can't get rid of the board, hopefully we can change their manure bag approach to keeping ahead.

04 Mar 2021 15:27:54
we spent nearly 6 million on the left back position boli and taylor then we spent 7 million on Julien so a good chunk was spent on the defence mate we can't deny that plus we brought big forster in his wages must a set us back a few quid to. we were never going to replace KT quality with like for like to many fans are just finding any wee reason and have a dig these days.

04 Mar 2021 15:53:40
We only spent money on Taylor after Boli turned out the way many if 6s said he would, a total and utter disaster. We certainly won't replace KT with a £3m punt. I was making the general point thst if we spend the same % on Eddy, Ajer, Ntcham and Christie replacements, unless we get a new recruitment team who find gems, that w9nt work and we will lose the league next year, fail again to qualify for the CL, so going cheap is never cheap, especially when we sign dud after dud who contribute nothing except increasing how much we waste in wages before they leave for nothing. Lawell has tried this for his whole time and it has cost us to regress alarmingly. We need quality, and without anybody who can spit a player, it costs.

04 Mar 2021 16:06:53
We got the Frimpong money plus if dembele gets his move a tidy wee sell on there as well, and we also sold elhamed, and that's before st money or selling any assets.

04 Mar 2021 16:29:22
I think the fact we need to rebuild means we will have to be quite clever and creative in the transfer market. Normally I'm critical of Celtic for taking the cheap option too often but I think the fans will realise that we can't go out and spend £5m each on 7 or 8 different players. Any thriftiness absolutely must be countered with a level of ambition in other signings though.

04 Mar 2021 16:33:38
A really do believe DD will push the boat out and put them back in their box.

04 Mar 2021 18:35:41
How much money was / is wasted on the Duffy deal?
Moñey was spent this season, it just wasn't spent wisely.
