Ben Davies still not fit even for the Liverpool bench, Maybe we were right to ask for a fitness clause. How many players have arrived not fit to play.

Agree0 Disagree0

Surprised he isn't fit as he played a lot of games for PNE.

07 Feb 2021 18:32:34
Maybe they have accepted standards of fitness that all players must achieve before getting into first team and he's not at that level. almost like a contract.

07 Feb 2021 19:23:45
Apparently we had a fit to play clause in his contract? If that’s the case well done Celtic we needed a centre half who could hit the ground running not warm the bench.

Davies was on the bench Wednesday against Brighton.

Jonbhoy seems strange that 1 as if he hadn’t left them he’d have played regularly at Preston. Jfp heard folk slagging us for having inserted such a clause, surprised they didn’t blame Lenny for that too Lol well done Lawell then as we need players to play straight away like Kenny has, but I do find it strange given he was playing regularly but also how bad Liverpool are doing at the minute defensively you’d have thought he may have went in straight away.

{Ed007's Note - It's a massive step up from PNE to Liverpool and people are misunderstanding this "fitness clause" it wasn't that at all - it was a clause in the pre-contract that Davies had to be fit when he joined Celtic, it was all part of Lawwell looking for that leverage I spoke of, basically sign this and push for a move or risk playing for PNE and breaking your leg - then the deal's off and you have no security when you return from the injury.
It was nothing to do with questioning Davies fitness.}

Looked the type of player we need but c'mon when Liverpool call can’t blame him. Stories knocking about are all clickbait the guy has landed on his feet there good luck to him.

{Ed007's Note - 👍

Ah I get you Ed, I just thought with the frailties with liverpool's defending they may have thrown him in, but I get it's a step up. At least pl was playing hardball as he gets accused of not having our best interests at heart enough. Regardless I'm just glad Welsh is getting game time as he needs the experience and he hasn't let us down when he's played. And unlike some he seems like hed run through a brick wall for the Celtic. Hail hail.

{Ed007's Note - Lawwell has always has Celtic's best interests at heart, the problem was he took on the responsibility that he wasn't qualified to do, at least he listened to John Park but after he left Lawwell thought he had learned from Park like a Peter-san Mr MayagiPark type of deal and that was never going to work.
What happened in 2012 & Res 12 - but that's a whole different shambles - should have been Lawwell's Waterloo and even ignoring that the McGinn saga should have seen him reigned in but the 10 in a row hype helped him survive, he's pushed that ticket for years and the board and fans settled for just being better than TRIFC.
Lawwell thought we had done enough and spent enough £ to win the 10 but he messed up with appointing Lennon, that was the pinnacle of a down ward trajectory. If we had (or do lol) win the 10 Lawwell would have been front and centre claiming the plaudits and rode of into the sunset, I honestly believe he would have left at the end of this season regardless
Oh and Lawwell can take the Hearts supporting head of PR guy that likes to remain anonymous with him.}

Ed I don’t doubt lawells love for the club but I’ve always felt that his business head has known that financially sponsorship wise the old firm as a selling point was needed so the remit was as long as were ahead. Res 12 is a shambles Lennons appointment is a shambles Lennon still being here is a shambles. We all could see we weren’t progressing but in all fairness we assumed 10 was a given. This season is embarrassing from the board to management to players and it’s us fans who have been let down. Accountability should be taken and would go a long way in the eyes of us who have forked out a small fortune in a C.V. to support the club we love.

{Ed007's Note - I can't argue with any of that, Welshy. Just look how quickly all the Lawwell and Lennon cheerleaders have turned though. It was nothing to do with Res 12 and the governance of the game, domestic FFP, abject failure to progress in Europe - even under Rodgers - or the wasted money on projects until we fell behind TRIFK in the league by four points. Even if we were 21 points ahead the underlying problems that have been there would be ignore because we're winning the 10.
What was the Club's plans after that, just going for 11 or actually trying to realise the potential we have without worrying about poxy TV deals.
Extend the main stand and that'll bring in more money than we get off TV, after Covid is over push to allow Scottish teams the sole rights to stream their own games worldwide and we'll soon see where the money and advertising regarding Scottish football goes.
We've all read what Rangers director Hugh Adams said about Rangers worldwide appeal in 2002, Celtic need to start using our worldwide appeal better.}

Yeh its a pity as he could and the way sevco are playing he still might😉 go out in a blaze of glory having delivered the 'holy grail'. Park signed us some cracking players, as well as some not so great however I'd say more good than bad, I just don't know why pl felt he should do that football role, ego? As financially he clearly is top notch. The McGinn 1 was a strange 1 as Brendan, correct me if I'm wrong told him he couldn't guarantee him 1st team football, and I assume pl thought hed sign for us no matter what and allowed villa to snatch him with the offer of guaranteed 1st team football and leaving McGinn hanging. Looking now he would certainly be a starter and possible contender for captain as well, did pl not learn under rd with Scott allan, the chosen 1 lol, kazimir richards etc that picking players wasnt really his forte.
Plus our midfield would be class with soro/ brown, McGinn, McGregor, Turnbull, and wee James.
As for the hearts guy, (take Gerry the soup taker with him) and give jp a more prominent role.

{Ed007's Note - Brendan Rodgers had McGinn in his house for a couple of meals and told him what his role in the team would be and was going to be in the future, it was up to Lawwell to do that deal with Hibs and he dropped the ball. Petrie was quite entitled to ask for more money than he wanted off Villa as that is common when selling to a team you're fighting against in maybe not the league but cups, that's the way transfer fees work.
Did Lawwell think McGinn would sit out his contract and sign for his boyhood club to make a personal dream come true - I think so - but McGinn was never going to do that and stiff Hibs of a fee and St Mirren their sell-on clause.}

Yip ed, I agree he gambled on McGinn just signing as it was the boyhood dream, shame really as he would be a mainstay and for even £5 million would have been a steal. One of my main worries about the club is the lack of progression to the 1st team over the last 25 odd years from the youth, as that should be providing us with a good core of the team added to with genuine quality.
Which would cut transfer fees and give us a bit more to spend on quality rather than quantity, add that to extending stands and as you say using our worldwide brand to better use would generate cash too, as would have champions league qualifications if we had prepared better, ie players in earlier rather than gambling on qualifying then look to get players in.
Too many are into the 'old firm' talk despite the fact it is no more.
The hibs game that Turnbull goal should have won, I was taken aback at how poor some of our youths were (the livi game after was worse) , whether that is down to coaching, lack of experience/ games/ fitness/ strength or players themselves not up to it but we don't have enough ready to make the step up, as far as I can see, except Welsh and time will tell on Robertson and Henderson.

{Ed007's Note - For me it's down to a general lack of discipline, poor coaching and youngsters looking for & getting too much too soon without them having to put in the hard work to get it.}
