The boys that are slaghing off Duffy are prob the ones that didn't want mcginn who is doing really well in the so called best league in the world remember Duffy has played at the top level his whole career not against some of the dross up here . a new manager came in and changed things that happens and as ed pointed out we've signed plenty of players who weren't getting a game.

I've not seen any1 slag him . I've heard that there is a danger of thinking he is some kind of messiah . and I've heard they we 'fans " can are known to have a low tolerance

I think everyone will agree we need a different type of defender in, and if it’s Duffy I hope he does well obviously. i think some of the fan fair surrounding this guy is way over the top! I’ve read a few things online, and it’s like he’s the 2nd coming! He’s a big no nonsense centre back who if he moves to us will be joining the biggest club by far of his professional career! He’s not doing us a favour! He can’t get in the Brighton team and before that he played in the lower leagues! If we was Shane Duffy from Cardiff and not Derry, then the level of hysteria would be nowhere near what it is!

his nationality has got nothing to do with it for me. i don't think any supporter thinks that by coming here he is doing us a favour. we have been going on about getting a CH if in for months now it looks like we will be bringing a good solid CH in and the negativity by some people is astounding .

Mally he's played mostly championship level. were worried as this is now a critical position needing filled and if he's 4th choice and not wanted by Brighton cos he's pish then that's a worry . not writing him off as I can't really mind seeing anything of him and couldn't tell you what he's like . if ajer goes and he is hash then were in trouble.

Duffy's nationality has nothing to do with fans wanting him. We need another CH after Siminovic departed. Him knowing the words to Joe McDonnell is just a added bonus 🇮🇪🇮🇪🇮🇪.

He's a full international he's 3rd choice and the Brighton manager has just spoke very highly of him and understands why he's leaving . I Am not saying he's beckenbaurs or the 2nd coming pish he's exactly what we need and am willing to stand by my opinion.

Dannyh14, exactly what I've been saying and when you suggest he is nothing more than a decent player (which is a fact, his career shows that) then you're accused of slating the guy.
For the record, and to make it very clear, I'm not saying anything negative about Duffy. I hope he is majestic for us. Could he be? Yes he could, but he could just as easily be at the same level as what we've got. I do think he'll bring a good set of balls and plenty of courage with him. Hopefully that's all he'll need. HH.

Duffy has played nearly 100 games in the Pub League over the last 3 years since helping Brighton win automatic promotion from the Championship - regarded as the hardest league in the world to gain promotion from. He's wanted by West Ham where Moyes knows him well from their time at Everton and West Brom so he's obviously proven to be of Pub League standards. He's 28 and is just coming into his prime defender-wise and he's choosing to come and play for us over staying in the so called Best League in the World.
To say he is nothing more than a decent player is pretty wide of the mark imo, he's exactly the type of player we need and the fact he's a Celtic supporter is just an added bonus and will help with the moral and general atmosphere around the squad.
If we do sign Duffy permanently I have no doubts in my mind that we'll have another contender for Brown's replacement as captain.}

I wasn’t having a go at u specifically mally. just some of the stuff about Duffy is way way over the top! And I stand by my opinion that we wouldn’t making such a fuss, if he wasn’t Irish from Derry! But I really hope if he comes in he’s exactly what we’ve been looking for! What I’ve seen of him he’s big strong and takes no rubbish! Plus he looks a threat at set pieces.

Ed, I'm sure there was a game a while back where Duffy scored 2 own goals and got sent off. Ever since then it seems to get brought up when he's being talked about on social media and folk have an idea in their head that he's a calamitous defender. I've very rarely seen him play but the fact he has been given almost all of his caps by MON says to me that he must be pretty decent.

Truth is troops we don't know if anyone is going to be a good signing until they play for us. We have bought players over the year's that on paper were going to be sensational that flopped. We have bought players that we have never heard off and now are club legends. Time will tell HH.

I haven't seen him play, but by the sound of it, he is a big, no nonsense centre back, as long as he is a big no nonsense centre back with a good turn of pace, he will do alright, . but I will wait till I see him play.

The fans are excited because he is a highly experienced EPL player that is going to make a difference to our defence, not because he is Irish!

{Ed007's Note - Fans - myself included - enjoy seeing foreigners who come in and really buy into "The Celtic Way" and you can see what it means to them to play for Celtic and they continue to be seen as Celtic men, Annoni, Sutton, Hartson & Larsson, Petrov etc etc. Duffy being Irish is irrelevant but him being a lifelong Celtic supporter is a big plus for me but the single most important facts are that he is a proven Pub League standard player who wants to play for us and who is exactly the type of player we need & we know will go that extra mile for the team and the Club. Plus he will go straight into the team, he won't need 6 months to get fit or settle into the country and get used to the Scottish game.
People moan that we are always buying projects or buying foreigners with one eye on their next move or overaged duds like Compper but here we have a proven PL player coming into his peak years who is willing to come up and help us win The 10 and possibly more - to suggest that he's only here and that fans are so keen because he is Irish is ludicrous.
Would they be more excited and welcoming if his name was Shano Eldufio who had played for some low level German or French team?}
