What does everyone think of the red card today?
I've only seen it from a Twitter video but it looked harsh.
Yes he goes in at speed and hard but looks under control boot low and wins the ball.
From video I saw I'd be raging if my man sent off for that.
Will need to watch highlights and see the other angles.

It was not a red card not even a yellow at most it was a quiet word in his ear.

Looks to me like it should have been a celtic throw in.

I'm at the other side of the stadium kev and it looked a horrendous challenge it also looked from my seat that we should have had 2 pens but as you say it will be interesting to see the highlights to see if I'm right or wrong also thought the free kick leading to the equaliser was never a foul but again I could be wrong.

Just because you won the ball does not mean it wasn't a red card. A tackle that leads to a foul can be one of three things.

1. Careless = Foul
2. Reckless = Yellow Card
3. Excessive Force = Red Card#

For it to be a red the referee will consider this:

A tackle or challenge that endangers the safety of an opponent or uses excessive force or brutality must be sanctioned as serious foul play.

Any player who lunges at an opponent in challenging for the ball from the front, from the side or from behind using one or both legs, with excessive force or endangers the safety of an opponent is guilty of serious foul play.

I have not had the luxury of viewing it properly or from different angles but my initial thoughts are its a red card. I would say Cosgrove used excessive force and took the man as well as the ball and that could have caused serious injury to Ajer.

The angle I seen is pretty much face on Jaw but its fae quite a distance.

if big ajer did not take the tackle big cosgrove would have wiped out a few fans when he eventually stopped.

I've shouted for many decisions over the years and come home raging only to see it on TV and realize I was completely wrong 🙈🙈😂😂.

Funny Lennonatwork seeing as I mentioned that
1- that he looked in control
2- his boot was low so not endangering the ajer
3- won the ball in my original post I know it's not all about winning the ball.
Bit going in at pace with force isn't always a foul or a red if its controlled and from the one video I've seen that's how it looks.

@Kev83 - It was a tackle you would have got away with 20 years ago and got all the fans psyched up but you don't get away with it now.

When you watch it back you see he came in from the side and was not in control once he slid in, hence the reason he ended up close to the corner flag by the time he stopped sliding. If Ajer did not jump up at the last minute, he would have taken a right nasty one due to the excessive force he slid in at.

I agree that his boot was low but don't agree that he was in control and he did endanger Ajer. The fact he won the ball is irrelevant.

It looks a good strong tackle. The best tackle I have ever seen was Jozo’s on Miller and that tackle today was a girlie tackle in comparison. 😂.

Good strong tackle my arse, He went in with both feet off the ground.
He may have won the ball but he went straight through Ajer, It could have been a leg breaker if Ajer didn't see him coming and had his leg planted.
Can you imagine the reaction of the SMSM if it had been one of our players that had gome through one of there's the same?
