A wee squad review - Stronger or Weaker

Goalkeeper - Stronger

Forster in for De Vries undoubtedly makes us stronger.

Rightback - Stronger

Elhamed and Bauer in for an ageing/ slowing Lustig and Gamboa makes us stronger.

Leftback - Stronger (bare with me)

Bolingoli and Taylor in for Tierney and Izaguirre I believe makes us stronger as a squad, no doubt our first 11 is weaker without Tierney though.

Centreback - Weaker

Jullien and Elhamed in for Boyata and Benkovic I thing makes us marginally weaker. The form of Ajer will fill the void but I think we could have done with 1 more body at CB.

Midfield - Stronger

Stronger because we will have Christie firing all season rather than coming in at the tail end like last year. Hopefully a less sulky Ntcham and a fit Rogic.

Wingers - Stronger

The signing of Elyounoussi could be inspired along with the emergence of Johnston and the potential of Shved added to the reliable Forrest makes us stronger, Sinclair was on the slide last season but I'd love him to find his way back to some regular minutes.

Striker - Stronger

Eddy has gone to another level. Griffiths is back in the picture and Bayo has shown promise.

Overall we are certainly stronger as a squad for this season.

Aarbee I have to disagree when you say we are weaker defensively, Sunday was the best and most solid defensive display I've seen by us since the days of Mjallby, Balde and Valgaaren. With Ajer still to come in I would definitely say we are stronger in that department.

I'm very happy we brought in Forster as I thought Bain was losing too many soft goals and Gordon has seen his best days long ago.
After Sunday, I actually see Jullien becoming an automatic pick and was really impressed with his attitude, leadership and timing.
I remember Boyata having a few shockers against them, Benkovic was good but was often injured; so with Ajer, Simunovic and El-Hamed (as back-up) I think we are at least even in that department.
The full-backs are better covered as you say, while in midfield - it's a question of who the heck do you leave out? We are blessed!
Up front - Eddy is twice the player, from when he arrived and with Griff and Bayo back to fitness, plus the versatile Elyannoussi, I agree we are a much stronger and more versatile team/ squad.

To be fair
If we shell out £7mill for a defender I would expect him to be a first pick, but I agree oab, price tag regardless you best, most consistent player should be a first pick and julien certainly looks as if he’s going to make the position his own.

Do you reckon Ajer could be a longer term replacement for broony?

Nah losing KT is massive can't mask it👍🍀.

We won't miss KT👍.

Once big Jullien and Ajer settle in together at CB we will be solid.
Jozo and Bitton as back ups.

How exactly is Centre back weaker?
Boyata is a bomb scare who could pass 10 yards and benkovic play 20 games several under 90 minutes and couldn't stay fit.
Also we brought in jullian elhamed and the young guy fae man Utd that can all play Cb.

The young guy from Man Utd looks a right good player. I was surprised to read that he is a CB though, everything i've seen of him is at LB and he reminds me of Tierney. He is quick, loves a tackle and looks very good both defensively and attacking.

Oab there's no chance ajer is back up. He's hands down our best defender, him and jullien will be first choice.

I would say as a squad we are def stronger as we can play so many formations now we can change it through games so we can keep the opposition guessing as to which formation we are using and break down packed defences much easier than we did before. But overall I think we are a much more solid team and have great options on the bench too.

I think Ajer has got all the attributes and passion to fill the void that brown will leave. If i'm not mistaken, was he not a defensive midfielder before being put into defence at Kilmarnock on loan. the only problem I can see is us not being able to hold on to him as his stock is rising all the time.
