Apparently the 25m is not all up front so me personally I think Celtic would be mad to accept, I think they will hold out for it all in one go or even more.
We played hardball with Dembele fee and got it up front so don't see why we won't this time either.

{Ed007's Note - It's extremely rare for any transfer fee to be paid in full up front. Most are paid in three tranches or over the duration of the players contract with the balance being paid in full if the player is sold before the end of his deal.}

That's fair enough ed007 but the report I read was saying the 25m is contingent on appearances, assists, trophies won and so on. Surely Celtic won't accept that and it has to be a straight 25m plus any add ons?

{Ed007's Note - Oh right, sorry. Yeah sack accepting that kind of deal. I've just said on the Man Utd page that even at £25 million it will be seen as a bargain in a couple of years time comparable to VVD going to Southampton.}

The reason we demanded the lot up front for Dembele was because how it went down and how little time was left in window.

The club will want a substantial first installment for any large bid accepted for a player as they need to insure against CL Qual failure.
However, if reports about KT's injury are accurate, we may well be in the same situation as Motherwell and be susceptible to a 'low-ball' or conditional bids?

{Ed007's Note - There are no concerns about KT's long term fitness, he's young but he's played a hell of a lot of games and that has caused his current condition which is nowhere near as serious as some people are making out and is actually quite common with athletes that do a lot of running and jumping. According to the most RECENT INFORMATION only 5%-10% of sufferers require surgery.
I remember a few years back Arsenal signed Kim Kallstrom even though they found out he had a broken back during the medical.}

Yes 25m is a lot of dollars ed007 but there has to come a time when we have to start getting the true value for our players, in my opinion if they are willing to pay 25 they will pay 35.

{Ed007's Note - I was told the other week that the price for KT was actually nearer the £30 million mark but the true value of a player is only whatever someone is willing to pay, just look at TRIFC's "true value" of Morelos.
If Celtic turn round and say the price for KT is £35 million then any potential suitors look around and see what other LBs they could get for £35 million, I'd imagine they'd find a few that are better players and are more experienced than KT.}

You reckon Kev I don't see what blind bit of difference that would have made, it's not as if we didn't already have cash for a replacement. We negotiated that deal because we held all the cards, PL laid it on the table that's the price and we want it all now. They paid it because they really wanted the player, nothing more nothing less.

14 Jul 2019 12:41:08
And that is exactly why we should be demanding the true market value for the player, even at 35m it would be a bargain.

{Ed007's Note - You can't just pluck a figure out of thin air, do you really think that Peter Lawwell and the board don't get as much as possible from these type of deals, Lawwell is renowned as one of the toughest negotiators in the game.
Just because you want more and say he's worth X amount doesn't mean that people will pay that. People say we sold VVD on the cheap etc etc because of the Liverpool fee but we didn't, the facts are that the player was forcing the move and not one single club would match our £15 million valuation of him - Southampton wouldn't even put up an extra £2 million for him - with some of the interested clubs valuing VVD at only £10 million.}

No you can't just pluck figures out the air but you can compare to full backs already being sold in that league with under 30 first team matches, no champions league experience never mind scoring and assisting goals, no International experience going for 40 to 50 million. Then you would have to say that KT is worth more than we are selling him for and yes I agree also with what you say. I just think we sell our top players too cheap.
Look at Ajax or Benfica you don't see them caving in at the first decent bids they get for their players.

{Ed007's Note - "In that league" is the difference along with the fact that Aaron Wan-Bissaka is English and so classed as homegrown which always bumps up the price, but all that completely irrelevant to this situation. International experience, KT can't even hold down the LB position for Scotland against a player we let go as a kid and that Liverpool bought for £8 million two years ago.
We certainly don't sell players on the cheap and what you are effectively saying is that we should price players out of a move because you're failing to grasp the fact that if we ask for too much clubs will just walk away and we end up with unhappy players a la VVD at the end. Would you go into a shop and pay £20 for something marked as £10
Both Ajax and Benfica play in superior leagues to the SPFL and are producing and playing against far superior technical players than in Scotland. Arsenal were quoted 19 million Euros (about £17 million) for Ajax LB Nicolas Tagliafico but the player decided to stay in Amsterdam, that's £17 million for an Argentinian international with more caps than KT and that played in this season's CL final.
It's funny that we should be pricing our players out of moves by asking unrealistic fees while chastising Hibs and Motherwell over the McGinn and Turnbull deals.}

Royjac it was definitely a factor. Celtic held all the aces and Lyon were desperate to buy him so they had to pay what we wanted on our terms.

Yes 25m is great money for us I don't disagree with that, it's just my opinion at the end of the day and what do I know haha.

{Ed007's Note - I'd love to see us bringing in £30 or £40 million for our top talent - and eventually we will with the way the market is going and inflation etc - but for now it's a push. Hopefully in 3/4 years time Ajer will be our first £50+ million player 😁

With each successful buy from us the more teams down south are willing to buy and spend from us.
It's gradually creeping up bit by bit.

I would rather the TV money bubble burst, and it will one day.
Would love that to happen and see all these teams struggle without the massive TV money.
