Mabye David is worried than he will be on 10k for the full 4 years and no one can tell if he will be a success or not so this in his mind might be the only chance he gets at s real good wage? Could they not agree on 10k first year rising 25% each year so heading into 4th year he will be on 17.5k and if he’s a success then he would be on a new contract by then anyway and get his £18-20k wage? Either way I think this is a normal situation with haggling ect but for some strange reason it’s been posted which hasn’t happened before I find it hard to believe celtic would just say 10k is your lot take it or leave it? There is always room
For negotiation wether it be what I suggested or even 12-13k wave now do I think he’s worth it I think he will be yes do I think commper is worth his wage no and theirs plenty more that aren’t this young man is in my opinion.

Chris the club are quite right to say 10 take it or leave it.
This boy has had 30 game and we've offered him more than the likes of VVD got in his 1st contract with us.
Vvd had a double the amount of games under his belt.

No it was a generous offer by the club as it stands. £12k a week for a player who has still a lot to learn. Can see player still at motherwell next season because apparently no clubs down south are willing to match £12k a week.

Yes I agree that it’s definitely a good offer especially for a 19 year old mabye a case of the agent being a bit greedy thinking they can squeeze some more I’d hope he accepts it I think there is a good player there that we can make even better 3m is a fair amount too but when you think we paid 4.4m 12 year ago for brown 3m then seems a good deal if he can produce the goods at cp time will tell though if not then harper would be a good addition.

10 to 12 grand is a fair number and there could be incentives or his contract gets looked in 2 years if he's done well.

15 Jun 2019 17:38:14
Nah you can't expect a guy to be able to live on only £10k a week. That's only half a million a year. Sickening.

15 Jun 2019 17:47:36
I think they should tell him to take it or leave it also.
If he's as good as he and his agents think he is then it won't be long before big offers come in for him and he will get the huge contract offers he thinks he's entitled to. However if he isn't all he's cracked up to be then he can console himself with earning a good salary at the club's expense without earning it.
I blame the ridiculous salaries in the English Premier league where the greed has seeped down the leagues and has led to idiotic wage demands from totally unproven players.
Some of them need a reality check.

I really don’t think a 19 year old should be worried about earning £10k a week over 4 years. Along with endless bonuses he would be one wealthy young man.

15 Jun 2019 18:36:29
Chris what if he doesn't cut it? Does he still get the wage rise? Na cut the cords now, no deal for me its done.

15 Jun 2019 20:35:42
Well overrated pardon the pun. Anytime I see him against us I wouldn't have had a clue who he was and never stood out.3 million not for me.

I haven't seen Turnbull play, and can't say really how good he is, but him being only 19,doesn't really matter if he is good enough, but if his ambition means he doesn't really want to stay in Scotland unless he gets paid a mega wage, then it becomes a gamble for any club, in this case Celtic, to take the chance on him and see if he lives upto his early promise, as Dirty Harry might have said, 'do we feel lucky,? '

Over past few seasons it's clear we have established a pathway to EPL for our players through Southampton. If Turnbulls agent was truly looking out for his best interests he would of advised to take the £12k per week on offer, develop at a top club like celtic (with exceptional training facilities and chance of CL Europe experience) and earn a big money move in 3 seasons.

Turnbull has been badly advised here.

We have a reputation for extending contracts after a good season. If he came in and played well he would be on more money within a season or 2.

16 Jun 2019 00:56:15
My understanding of these contracts are they always have inserts which trigger improved terms based on targets set such as breaking into first team becoming a regular appearances and stats at least that's how it used to work I may be off target with this now a days.

At 19 he should be more interested in medals, so clearly he wouldve jumped ship at the first opportunity anyway, not Celtic material.
