What do you's think of anya coming to celtic park? Think he would be a great asset to out team and someone the fans would love to come and watch, do you think we have chance of getting him in January ed?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

I said this a few months ago and someone said he was rubbish I'd rather a winger we know is decent that a punt on a foreign winger who might not be

Gauld and May both scoring again for the u 21 national team, think we missed the boat again for these 2.
£4 million outlay for future players missed, sell on value would have been big

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Definitely. The fact we didn't move for Gauld because 'he wasn't ready YET' is the makings of small club mentality.

Agree0 Disagree0

The complacency factor and willingness to do things on the cheap will bite us on the backside. We have let too many good Scottish prospects slip away - and don't tell me they weren't good enough.
The whole point of Lennoxtown is to discover and develop talent and shape them into Celtic players.
I know it was always difficult for young players to get into the team while the pressure of success is constant; but we have had some breathing space in recent years and young players can break through if the manager thinks they're ready.

People are saying we missed a trick with gauld but who's 2 say he would have even wanted 2 come lol at the time imo it was better for his development 2 stay at dundee utd cause lennon would have probs kept him on the bench and we would have seen him once in a blue moon. Agree about may though at 800,000 he was worth a punt and would have came

Agree0 Disagree0

I think if I was Gauld I would have went to Sporting Lisbon to be honest, it could be why Celtic never made a move?

May definitely and one I don't understand, I would have paid that wee bit extra for him.

Agree0 Disagree0

I know Ryan Gauld and his Family as they live in my town, Ryan from a very young age has always wanted to play abroad he had a few offers on the table but decided Sporting would be the best fit for his Development. Spoke with his dad the last day he has settled in really well over there he lives in there training academy with about 300 other youngsters from the ages of 15 to 20 they get everything they need to make them superstars he has played a few B team games and played well got his first goal last week. He has also been added to there champions league squad so will get good experience from that.

Agree0 Disagree0

To be honest Gaz I can totally appreciate the reasons he has gone there. If he was my Son I would definitely of encouraged the move to Sporting rather than Glasgow.

Agree0 Disagree0

I think most people above would have been spitting feathers if we had spent £3M on Gauld. Steve May would have been a good buy and was definately worth a punt at £1M or so. Hopefully the Serb and the Swede will hit the ground running and we will forget about the ones that got away. Hail Hail

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed007's Note - CFC were told by St Johnstone in January that they could sign Stevie May for £1.5 million or wait until the summer and pay £1 million during the summer, we went out and spent £800k (+£200k in add-ons) on Leigh Griffiths and that was the end of any deal for May who went onto join Sheffield Wednesday for £800k.}

I understand were you are coming from ED, but if Lennon was still here Griffiths would be scoring for fun. I know you don't like him very much but he is a natural goalscorer and as I said would be scoring for fun now if we played to his strentghs but Ronny can't do that. Onwards and Upwards for our beloved Hoops, Hail Hail

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed007's Note - It's nothing to do with how I feel, who got the better deal, us or Sheffield Wednesday?}

ED to be truthfull the last team to play to Griffiths strengths was Hibs, so I will say we got the better deal although May is a good player but so is Griffiths, if we play to his strengths. Hail Hail

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed007's Note - So, what's Griffiths' strengths?}

I think he must be played in a 4-4-2 or like the old Scotland 4-5-1 where Kenny Misser just ran for 75 mins and closed everyone down. A 4-4-2 is best for Griffiths as he is a finisher and will shoot from anywhere, he is very fit and a great team player. That said looking forward to seeing the new 2 and hope they hit the ground running. Do you think they will both start ED and if they do will it be in a 4-4-2 formation? Hail Hail

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed007's Note - Not many strengths there is there, Tam? I don't see his fitness as a strength, he's a professional athlete, he should be fit, and what's a 'great team player'? What about things like his first touch, ball control, aerial ability, holding up the ball and bringing others into the play, turn of pace, speed acceleration to beat a player, bravery and not afraid to get in when boots are flying etc etc.
You are the first person I've heard saying Griffiths is a better player than May, I just can't see it. And we'd have made money off May in years to come, we'll be lucky to recoup our money on Griffiths, if the financial side of things could have been worked out he would have joined Hibs last month, then probably freed to join them come the summer. Leigh Griffiths will not be a CFC player this time next year, maybe even January if we can find anyone apaprt from Hibs willing to take him.}

Goal Scorer Ed, not many of them about. Hail Hail

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed007's Note - Not as good as Stevie May though, May averages a goal every 1.77 games and Griffiths is a goal every 2.08 games, and May is 2 years younger.}

ED, May is a good player but so is Griffiths, and his stats would be a lot better if he was givin a fair chance. Hail Hail

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed007's Note - Given a fair chance where? Livingston 2006-09/26 goals in 53 games, Dundee 2009-11/33 goals in 62 games, Hibs 2011-13/39 goals in 78 games, Wolves 2013-14/13 goals in 31 games and Celtic 2013-?/8 goals in 22 games. Where's he been held back or not had a fair chance, even when Wolves realised their mistake in signing him they loaned him out to Hibs, a lot of players would have just lost those 2 seasons.}

would love to see us sign anya from watford in jan, everytime I see the guy play he excites me, wouldn't cost the earth either

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Me too Bhoywonder but upon further enquiries he has declared himself to be a fan of the DARK side of Glasgow :-(

Agree0 Disagree0

Who care what team he supports. Kenny Dalglish and Danny McGrain both supported Rangers (il)

Will John Guidetti be able to have similar success to Larsson at Celtic - NO!

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Cant understand why you would say this when he hasn't even kicked a ball with us yet, its unlikely anyone will be as succesful as larsson but to say a definitive NO just seems a bit stupid IMO

Agree0 Disagree0

Mrs E I don't think it's fair to compare the boy to one of the best players ever in the hoops maybe he can be loved as much if he shows promise and signs pernamently on January as that would who loyalty to us but we will need to see! Let's judge him with out the larsson pressure!

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - ah but he said it himself SOS, Guidetti was making comments in the press about wanting to compare to Larsson etc.}

There is a good thing though about him saying this, shows he is keen and ambitious. Larsson without a doubt the best player I have ever seen play for celtic in my lifetime. If guidetti is even half as good, he will have done well

Agree0 Disagree0

@3, I hope your right dn but personally I think if he was planning to stay after his loan he wouldve took the number 7, maybe it wasnt offered to him I don't know, but like I said I hope he stays as if he stays fit we have a very talented striker once again

Agree0 Disagree0

I didn’t mean to come across so blunt with the Larsson comparison and DN has now stole by thunder.

If he can be at least half the player Larsson was then I’ll be happy.

Agree0 Disagree0

Boy is not shy in confidence that is for sure, would rather hear all day long from someone like that! As a have said I believe the best loans have always been where the last year in there current contract is up! Everything to prove etc.

Like someone to say things like he has rather than they were my fav subbetto? team!

As for him being the next Henrik Larsson . well he has more chance of that than Wakaso Mubarak has of being the next Sherlock Holmes! ;-)

ATVB

Agree0 Disagree0

Guidetti said there were discussion's about getting the number 7 but maybe he's wanting it and if he enjoy's himself and is successful up to January Lawwell will use it as a bargaining chip in permanent contract talk's

Agree0 Disagree0

I have never seen the lad play and it would be very difficult to live up to Henrik; plus the player is only on loan and I am not sure if an actual 'Celtic career' is a possibility?
I am looking forward to the new-look Hoops and only hope RD can get the best out of the whole team and show us some signs for optimism this season?

JJ

Agree0 Disagree0

Mrs E your post was realistic. It would be a massive ask for any player to be as good as Larsson. Hopefully he does well and gets back to form he was in at Feyenoord.

Agree0 Disagree0

@DN, a wee bit o banter. I seem to remember you on here havin a go at Larsson for not bein good enough when he at Celtic. The board only spending 650k on him an we should be going for better lol. I always thought he was a better player for havin Lennon behind him runnin the show. :)

Agree0 Disagree0

@rayman. Aye right lol how could anyone doubt larssons ability. Steal of century. Lennon was a great player, so your probably right lol
