Faissal El Bakhtaoui, I've seen this guy name appear recently when watching the scores come in at the weekend but watching the highlights this evening this was the first seeing him play, what an exciting little player. Very skillfull and some technique from the little guy. I have no idea what level he can go into play at but maybe worth at least a trial. Some exciting players needed at parkhead ASAP!

Thought it was bad enough people suggesting we sign players from the Scottish Championship!

Who gives you the right to say that the boy isn't good enough just because he has started his carear at a lower level? Plus I never suggested we sign him, I suggested he was at least worth a trial. Jamie Vardy started at the lowest of the in English footy leagues and he seems not to bad eh? Next time before you read and reply to a comment have think before you insult someone.

Whoah, who did I insult, Faissal? Well why didn't somebody tell me Jamie Vardie started in the lower leagues. We've been missing a trick there just signing players from the SPFL.

My team for the Stranraer match today would be;

Griffiths - Nesbitt

Mackay Steven - Rogic - McGregor

Johansen

Tierney - Juzo - Lustig - Wardrop

Fasan

I would have had Armstrong instead of Rogic but i notice he's injured. I think this team has a good blend to it.

Griffiths - Stokes
Rogic-Allan-Christie-Forrest
Tierney-Juzu-Mulgrew-Lustig
Fasan.

10 Jan 2016 11:14:55
We have to start the game with Carlton Cole! We can't play Griffiths every game. He is just back from injury. On a pitch like Stranrars we don't want to play Griffiths unless we need to. Also if we are not going to play Cole in a match like this against lower division opposition, why did we sign him, which by the way is a waste of time as he is never going to get back to match fitness because he can't get game time. So today he needs to start.

I have been reading all the points of view with intrest over the last couple of weeks and after reading it all, I must confess, I still think Ronnie will turn this round. One thing that i do find alarming though, is the amount of young players we are being quoted as having an interest in. Now before anyone jumps in, I am aware that this is the Celtic strategy, to produce good players from an early stage, but, as Ronnie pointed out during the summer window, Celtic are in need of some older seasoned pros to help with the younger players development. I don't think we have been quoted with any yet.
Saying that, I look forward to Ibrahimovic signing his pre-contract during this window ; )

On another note, does anyone know when the construction work starts for the new ticket office and museum? It all seems to have gone a bit quite on the Celtic Park Triangle Redevelopment.

I don't think that you can compare the situation between Man Utd fans and Celtic fans, the situation is totally different.
Man Utd play in a mega rich league which is televised all over the world, if their fans decide not to go, their places are filled by people who call themselves fans because they have watched them on TV, but would struggle to find Manchester on a map.
We on the other hand, play in a league where nobody notices us, and those that do treat us with disdain, it's far more cool to be seen going to an English premier league match than a Scottish premier league match.
A lot of people who go to matches in England are really only visitors to a ground rather than fans, I wonder if Manchester United were playing in Scotland with no global TV coverage, no riches from Sky TV, and playing Ross County if they would get the 40,000 crowds that we get, I'm not sure they would.

They have season tickets like us. Other people aren't allowed to just take their place.

People don't go to iur games because who wants to sit in the cold watching the pish we have been serving up?

When you see the board not giving a flying shag why shoukd the fans?

Football is a product and right now ours is broken and past it's best.

There are plentywho have season tickets who sit in the pub watching it because going is an utter freezing bore. Shit football, shambolic defence and Firrest fuc ing up every final baw?

Get that sorted and maybe more would attend. Don't blame the fans for showing the board their team are not good enough.

10 Jan 2016 11:50:05
Thanks for the comments beav81 and Bhrydobhoy, it's the reason I think it's important that the board do all they can to help us qualify for the champions league.
Because of the huge Tv deals in England we are at a massive disadvantage when it comes to finances, qualifying for the group stages of the CL is our only route to getting extra money into the club.
It's not snobbery or turning my nose up at the Europa league, it's just that in the last couple of years when we haven't had the extra money, the quality of the signings has dropped, leading to poorer performances on the pitch, and leading on from that to a drop in attendances.
I don't think we need to spend mega money to get there, I think bringing in the quality of player required to get us there is well within the financial ability of the club.
We just need to be a bit more ambitious in my view.

For Steph and Marty thanks for your support on my bets (I need it lol) so for everyone else here is how I fared today.
Horse race tips one a donkey lol but the other finished 2nd at 25/ 1 so my each way bet showed a small profit even adding on my other bet.
JimTim I was ambiguous because of too many games what I advised was be careful betting on English ties as top teams played weakened teams. So how did I fare with the footie?
No shocks in Scotland said me, and well wee Annan blew my acca away.
In Northern Ireland Linfield beat me here (cannot trust these blooming blue noses lol)
But my one footie successful acca bet came in English Cup with BTTS in Arsenal, Bolton and Bournemouth games, added over 2.5 goals in Derby and Reading games so a nice wee profit.
Overall on the day, horses wee profit, footie about break even.
So my money goes on to cup games tomorrow.

Tim, similar for me, won a bit n the horses from your tip, fa cup didn't do anything but had Barcelona to win 4-0 so slight profit made, then got carried away by taking ronaldo hat trick, penalty awarded and missed and a red card in that game and lost! Overall slight profit, rol on next week.

See Dundee have had about her game postponed, how many is it this season? And does anybody know if there is some sort of fine involved they are suppose to be a professional club in the premier league it's embarrassing for Scottish football that a premier league club can't sort there pitch out.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

09 Jan 2016 20:47:52
It's a joke the amount of games postponed, not just Dundee but the premier league in general. If they start dishing out fines for it would it not push more clubs to the plastic pitches. Don't know the answer maself.

The board are giving Ronnie one last throw of this dice. This window must be used to fortify a shambolic defence a midfielder who can pass a baw forward, and a striker.

If form does not improve, he will be removed by the end of February at the latest, to give any new guy half a chance in CL qualification.

I hope he gets it right, the 19 players he has brought in have been on the whole a waste of time and money we don't have.

I heard Eriksson wants Ambrose, if pigs have taken to the sky, and that's true, then any offer over a slab of Tennent's or equivalent in Pickled Onion Minster Munch has to be accepted.

I'm hoping at least ten players are released to free up cash for players who can kick a baw ten yards in the right direction. At least five!

09 Jan 2016 18:38:11
Magicole and everyone else. I am not a Ronnie fan so if he is being given till end of Feb as posted by Magicole so be it. He is wrong manager for the strategy we have in place for a start. This is why. Bigger picture. Celtic are stuffed. It's all over and has been since PL came in. Let me tell you why. The whole strategy is based on buying and selling players. Fact. So our strategy is not to build a team that can compete in Europe. All we want to do is qualify for Europa. it's about producing and selling assets. PL claims we don't budget for CL. Well if that is the case maybe he should as participation in the competition is worth circa Β£12mill even if you don't win a point. So we see posters talking about brining youth through. So what if the guy is any good he will be punted. So the strategy is simple. Produce players or acquire players and sell at a profit. So how can any club progress when any played you buy or produce are simply an asset to sell? So we buy players like Cifti, Boerringer, Baldi etc not with any strategy of building a team but of making a profit from the asset (player) . Regardless if we try and build our own or buy and sell the club wants to sell and the players probably wants to go because I believe we are recruiting players by telling them we are a stepping stone to greater things. So we don't recruit players who want to play for us. We recruit players who want to use us. They will want to go because they get more money. So the bottom line is no matter what we do we are screwed. Even if the board don't want to sell, the players want to go! That being the case why develope our youth. The cost of doing this to produce 1 player each year does not work. So it's better to recruit. We are only going to sell them anyway.

Todays game should be an experimental line up and give fringe players a crack. For me.

Bailly
Janko Boyata Jozo Izzy
. Johansen
McGregor Armstrong Stokes
. Cole Ciftci

And bring on Griffiths for half hour along with Allen to play in the 10 role for half hour too.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

09 Jan 2016 08:44:47
No idea Marco and from what I've read he is a winger? Is this a position that is one of our priorities and if so where does that leave GMS and Forrest who admittedly have been poor?

The squad is overloaded with midfielders and I had hoped we would find a quality centre half to form a partnership with Jozo.

As usual probably be the last minute for signings due to the issue of moving on fringe players.

Agree1 Disagree0

09 Jan 2016 08:59:39
He'd get in the side for sure. It's an area i'd really like to see improved as it's unfair on Armstrong a wee bit and Forrest just can't kick on.

Hasn't played so much this season so he's one of those 'highly-rated-youngsters-who-fell-through-the-net-a-bit-but-still-have-a-good-chance' players who we'll see a lot more of. Ain't a bad way to go about, but there are much more productive wing forwards we could afford.

Agree2 Disagree0

09 Jan 2016 09:13:10
Good point and I totally forgot about Armstrong who I'd like to see getting an extended opportunity in his favoured position. I think he has had a bit of a raw deal in this respect and when you look at Forrest he frustrates me as when he is on his game is great but he is very lazy in working hard to get the ball back or to get involved.

Agree0 Disagree0

09 Jan 2016 09:29:39
What I would do with regards to our LAM/ RAM positions is have on one side, a real goalscoring/ assisting wing forward with pace and a trick or two, and on the other side a player who brings a bit more balance that can tuck in when we change shape. The latter is what Johansen and Armstrong do manage to bring, but the former, were lacking in Forrest and I don't know what has happened to GMS. I thought he was our most technically gifted attacker too.

Agree1 Disagree0

09 Jan 2016 10:01:16
Why don't we just punt Forrest as he flatters to deceive most times. Get a new winger and play Armstrong in the middle.

I agree with marco1888. Armstrong should get a run in the middle of the park, personally I'd drop Johansen.

Agree1 Disagree0

09 Jan 2016 12:30:32
Last season Stokes and Izzaguire had a great partnership on the left with good understanding, creating chances.
This season is a totally different story ( for both players) .
Forrest is totally unreliable and GMS started brilliantly - fuelled on adrenalin. - then has fallen out of favour.
The result has been RD sticking Armstrong on the wing and you can see the confidence and enthusiasm draining out of him as the season went on.
We bought three of Utd's top players and for one reason or another - none of them are having the best of seasons and certainly not playing to the form that attracted the bids?
There seems to be a grey area as to our transfer strategy, but we are clearly not getting the best out of both existing players and new signings in several cases and assuming the manager has the final say in all team matters, he has a lot of work stiill to do and it worries me that this is happening in his second season - where you would hope we would be settled, confident and well-oiled in our progression under RD.

Agree1 Disagree0

09 Jan 2016 12:43:08
He was meant to be the next Ronaldo still looks a decent player. We was linked to him a few seasons ago but didn't cough up the mentioned 1m.

Bravetart. . was checking up on him there don't know about now but he had a 45m release clause in his contract. you sure it wasnt Sadio mane your thinking of he was up for grabs relatively cheap a few year back just before him soriano and Alan started scoring for fun at red bull.

Agree0 Disagree0

09 Jan 2016 14:44:11
Why butt a winger when we never play a winger As far as I know we play a 4 2 3 1 formation. The three players behind the striker interchange and certainly don't hug the side-line like a traditional winger .
Players may start out wide but at the very least are given a licence to come inside, if not instructed .

Agree0 Disagree1

09 Jan 2016 17:18:29
Chris we need width desperately.

Agree1 Disagree0

09 Jan 2016 19:10:38
So you've just explained exactly why we need a winger first and foremost! We are playing with 3 midfielders across the front 3 (behind striker) I would focus on getting a winger with pace in then focus on the cb situation after. Would love the boy Mane would certainly get bums on seats, but not getting my hopes up.

The 19-year-old is thought to have a Β£1m buy-out clause in his contract and has been offered to the Hoops, who are yet to make a formal move and are still considering whether to bid or not.

Portuguese starlet Mane made the breakthrough at Sporting this season and has been also been scouted by Manchester United.

That was a snip from Jan 2014.
