Only Celtic related as a guy we were linked with but did Ross McCormack really go for 11 million?

Ludicrous price for a championship level player and just shows what we are up against to get decent players in.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

More fool Fulham. They are no where near the standard of getting back to the EPL and paying £11m for McCormack won't help their cause.

Agree0 Disagree0

It just sums up what we've known for years, that the English clubs are full of themselves and totally overprice their players. I wouldn't go near the English market, except for a Bosman. You just have to look at the World Cup and the players in that England squad on 200k a week, and compare them to Costa Rica/USA players on 100,000 dollars per year, it's a complete embarrassment. That's why a good scouting network is paramount.

Agree0 Disagree0

Im sure everybody who posts on this page can name at least 10 players, who play in same position, that are better for less

Agree0 Disagree0

Check out Fulhams list of expensive strikers .

Mitroglou, Marlet & Ruiz all big money flops. The Fulham scout must be sh%t$

Agree0 Disagree0

They've spent a fair whack on strikers the last 4-5 yrs or so: £5m on Mousa Dembele (they doubled their money thanks to Spurs), £10.5m on Bryan Ruiz who spent the end of last season on loan to PSV, £4m on Dimitar Berbatov who did alright before moving on to Monaco, £11m on Kostas Mitroglou to warm the bench second half of last season, now £11m on Ross McCormack between 2nd tier clubs?!

I didn't see the game tonight but I heard that Griffiths was wearing the captains armband for at least part of the game. Imo someone like him shouldn't even be at Celtic and I think its shocking that he's allowed to captain us, it sends out the wrong message to young players about what is and isn't acceptable behaviour.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Agree totally - LG is a a PR nightmare and will provide the media with plenty of ammunition to tarnish the Celtic's heritage & roots.

Was only a friendly lads a know people on here wish we didn't sign him but a don't agree it will tarnish the clubs name

Agree0 Disagree0

So moralistic when suits on here.
I'm not going to start pointing out the issues from fans through to certain "hero" players that have tarnished the club.
So Griffiths might not be everyone's "cup of tea" but apart from some video on his time off what has he done since joining the club? Others have been caught singing songs in the past n recently but that's ok because of the connotation. 2 wrongs don't make a right but give the boy a break.

Agree0 Disagree0

Not been on for a while because of changing phones and broken laptops etc. Can understand some people's issues with Griffith's wearing the Jersey let alone the armband but have got to say that as it's only a friendly it's a non argument but moreso have seen players flourish and mature with responsibility. Look at our current captain for one. I wouldn't rank him anywhere near some of our recent greats but as someone with a past who has matured I'd say he's done well. In short I'm willing to give Griffiths a chance.

Agree0 Disagree0

Funny, bet some of the people on here complaining about Griffiths are the one's belting out the pro IRA songs at every opportunity.

Would never defend what he did and time will tell if he eventually learns his lesson.

Mind, seeing as there have been people on here holding grudges since Atletico Madrid and Rapid Vienna then what chance does Griffiths have.

Agree0 Disagree0

@KevT Are you seriously comparing Republicanism to racism? Really?! That's clutching at serious straws in defence of Griffiths.

Agree0 Disagree0

I haven't saw any media reaction to Griffith's stint as Captain

ft,, youngsters finally took control and by far the better team in the second half, positives Henderson, do we need to buy another midfielder with this boy around. biton looked good beside him, pukki looks to like this 4-3-3 system and looks to have filled out a bit, oconnell., like him more every time I see him, all the boys done well tonight but for me after the sending off was how good mgeoch played in centre mid he really looked the playmaker, rd has shown we have talent in the ranks and I hope this trend of playing them carries on into the league

Hi drb yet again mcgeough best player on the park , like Henderson & McGregor to get a chance is it just me? but a have never known 3 games into a pre season that the kids are still flooding the team , do we think they are listening/applying/carrying out instructions better? remember this is how RD made his name folks atb jb7

I love to see youth getting a chance maybe under Neil they just didn't get there chance bt won things for sure rd seems the kind of guy to not have his favourites and be adventourous good times ahead every1 with a clean slate love youth still need a healthy mix with experience tho

1, -1 ht. bit scrappy, just missing final pass at times, atajic missed a pinch at 0-0, biton and Henderson look comfortable together, pukki playing well, leigh g, holding the shape well and doing a lot of closing down tracking back but looks a bit unhappy out there, young oconnell looking good again but nobody is playing bad

Believable0 Unbelievable0

08 Jul 2014 18:53:38
Looks like Scott Brown will be out for around three months. Partnership in midfield would have been Brown-Johansen, but now a great opportunity for Biton, Kayal and Mulgrew to battle it out for the vacant position.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

A fully fit Biton would be the best of that bunch. Don't forget young Henderson though

It's was interesting to read the thread on del piero but let's be honest it's unlikely he will come to celtic. What's more worrying is ronny doesn't appear to have made any real moves to sign players when every single fan knows we lack quality throughout our team. We should be bringing in at least 3 players to strengthen our starting lineup and I don't believe ronny didn't know that before pre season started. We play our first cl game next week and could be minus brown, Biton, izzy, efe, Sammy and Forster but should still be ok for this tie but it should be essential to get players in for next round as last year we struggled past elfsborg and karagandy. It's good to see Henderson and mcgregor in the squads but they should be looking to progress more on our domestic front with 20/30 appearances rather than have our hopes pinned on them in Europe.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

I think Ronny's trying to unearth a gem in Austria from our current group of youngsters / fringe players judging by his team selections.

Agree0 Disagree0

Henderson, oconnell, so far

Agree0 Disagree0

I've missed majority of the game due to bad streams has O'Connell been generally as impressive as everyone is making out? Saw a wee bit of him last year and looked ok, glad to hear he is progressing

Alessandro Del Piero wants to sign for Celtic, two years after missing out on a chance to move to the Scottish champions. The Juventus legend was originally targeted by Neil Lennon in 2012 but talks stalled and he moved to Sydney FC instead. Del Piero said: "Two years ago it was interesting and it would be interesting again. If we could talk then great. If you want I'll give you my phone number and you can pass it on! Celtic are a great team and I've always enjoyed playing in Scotland so who knows?" He added that he knew of Celtic's interest in 2012 but that Celtic decided against making a bid, he said: "We were in contact with Celtic but it didn't come to anything. But I was very interested in moving to Scotland."

Believable0 Unbelievable0

It would just be a waste of time and money signing him now! Think we are past topping up old players retirement funds and certainly hope so!

Agree0 Disagree0

There'll be people against this, so I think I'll start by saying I would love this to materialise. Has it got Keane, Ljungberg, Wright written on it? I don't care. It's worth a shot. Not going to go into his experience, medal haul, overall class etc etc but at the very bottom, should we get humped out of Europe and have to spend half the season watching the paint of the league title dry out, at least we could do it watching this guy over the current crop or the standard of forward we've signed lately. And he could do a job in the SPFL; more than one.

Agree0 Disagree0

No got the taps fine, couldn't get the shower curtain I wanted though .

I'm with you Jim, what's the worst that can happen?
Celtic are there to entertain us and ADP has done that all his career. If it doesn't work well it's certainly not the last duff signing. Who knows, he may fall in love with the club and RD and decide he would like to start coaching here too!

Agree0 Disagree0

Agree with jimtim here, and it seems the kind of thing liewell would do to shift a few shirts to me, scored 1 in 2 for Sydney and he's one of my all time fav players so i'd love if it was true, can't see it though

Agree0 Disagree0

i would love this to happen. yes the debate about age and all comes in to it but the two main points that will be considered by everyone involved at the club

1. as a celtic fan would he improve the team - YES

2. as a board member would he sell the shirts - YES

ED maybe a we thought for poll of the day just to see what we all think of the possibility of signing del piero

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed007's Note - I've passed that onto Ed001.}

He'll be 40 in November and would expect to be our highest earner, the Ljunberg deal will be the last of this sort we see I hope. Would much rather a youngster got a chance rather than a guy coming to the end of his career who's only interested in his salary!

Agree0 Disagree0

He's not good enough to still be playing in the A league! Such a bad idea to upset the wage structure for a player who is well past his best and upset the dressing room! None of the has beens have been a success so why would this one be any different?( I don't class Robbie Keane as a has been)

Agree0 Disagree0

God he was a great player/pro, he's lost a yard or 2 though. I would prefer a player/coach role for him, maybe playing him in certain games, what an influence he would be to the youngsters, he would be a great example when it comes to dedication/diet etc, people go on about a striker coach, he would be ideal. I just feel his general influence would be good, but he wouldn't be a first pick in every game, and if he was happy with that then cool.

Agree0 Disagree0

SOS, he quite obviously is good enough for the A-League

Life is all about memories, and ADP in a Celtic top is a memory I would love to have!
Wow, that was a bit deep.

Agree0 Disagree0

He was my boyhood hero, so I probably have a bias opinion, but here goes. He said it was us who pulled out the deal two years ago, which really doesn't surprise me. A-League or not (It's probably on par, if not better than the Scot Prem), 24 goals in 48 games for a 39 yr old second striker's not bad going. We've got guys in their prime who can't manage that playing up top! I agree that he improves the quality of the squad n would sell jerseys, get him in as player / coach.

Agree0 Disagree0

I don't see how that would upset the dressing room SOS, most of the current Celtic dressing room are mid 20s which means they would've grew up watching legends like ADP. The chance to be graced with his presence in training n on the pitch? The amount of learning they can do from a pro who spent 10 yrs at the biggest name in Italian football, as well as playing in 8 or so major tournaments for his country?

Agree0 Disagree0

08 Jul 2014 16:31:37
Not for me , great up to 36 but nearing 40?? , please don't give him the 7 shirt ffs , it would DE-VALUE it!

Agree0 Disagree0

@ 3) Totally agree 'fab 1' - finding the right shower curtain can be a nightmare (?) . And that's exactly why Celtic went on a 'selling-spree' last summer - to bring in a 39 year old player, now, and give his Retirement Fund the massive Boost that he's looking for!!!

The Sno Man

Agree0 Disagree0

* I meant 20 yrs!

Agree0 Disagree0

Wasn't it del piero who said when he played subbuetteo that celtic was always his team he played with? is that enough for a contract?, if I had a few vods in me i'd say defo as he was brilliant in his day and far better than all the other like loans we've had, we could offer him a pay as you play deal

Agree0 Disagree0

His wages would would be higher than any existing players! I'd much rather develop youth, if it was 2 years ago then sure but he's past his best by a country mile! How well is he going to play in the pissing rain while getting kicked all ways in the winter?

Agree0 Disagree0

08 Jul 2014 22:08:38
if ADP signed, it would be a morale booster for the fans to see him being brought on for the last 20 mins in a champions league game
