Most people are given lawwell it stinking for missing out on mcginn and probably rightly so . he got caught asleep at the wheel when no 1 else was bidding but he did match the offer when push came to shove . his job is to do the best he can with our money so u can't blame the guy when he's trying to penny pinch . he is one of the beat in the biz and i for 1 think were lucky to have him . i don't like a lot of things he does ie res12 and transfers but at least we have a solid club and not a tribute act . let's just hope mcginn gate gets him to act faster/ better with next target hail hail.

what about the improvements in defence we have needed for 2 years?

and instead getting Hendry and Compper. While having Ajer (a midfieler) , Simunovic (plastic knees) and Boyata (donkey)

2 years to identify and sign players to improve that position.

The McGinn thing is just another failure in a long line of problems.

08 Aug 2018 23:01:08
The factionalism and infighting we are currently experiencing about John McGinn has been manufactured by the media. We've been sold it, and we've bought it, and now they tell us its an embarrassment or a shambles. Better still: we tell ourselves. Have some self respect. Some historical awareness. No one is bigger than the club: he is not even in the club. Get over it. We are allowing ourselves to be defined by what the adverse papers say, and describing ourselves in the same way, slavishly.

Not a great result tonite but we have a great team and a great manager. let's just get behind that and trust that they want what we want. Does anyone really doubt it?

Believable2 Unbelievable0

It is embarrassing, nothing to do with what the papers say, we wanted Mcginn FACT not media speculation, the Board waited untill last minute to pay up, it’s embarrassing!
Not because it’s Mcginn, it could be any player and it could be any manager, it won’t change!
Doesn’t change tonight’s result tho and wasn’t going to
Should have won the game but they are decent and that wasn’t going to be any different either.

whats our great managers problem with gamboa? can some one tell me why lustig starts ahead of him?

Agree0 Disagree0

08 Aug 2018 23:30:04
McGinn would not be guaranteed a start every week. So no real issue on the playing front. BR said he was a player he would have liked to sign. There lies the issue. BR wanted him. We could have had him for 2.75mill. We should have gone and got him because BR wanted him.

Agree0 Disagree0

08 Aug 2018 23:31:33
Nothing to do with the papers.

Rodgers said from his own mouth it's a player he really wanted. The board failed to deliver that to him by stalling on the deal early on.

Another club came in and took their interest serious and finalised the deal.

So blaming the papers makes no sense.

08 Aug 2018 23:32:03
Celtic are always a target for the jealous journalists, media malcontents, Sevco Scribes and detractors, but we should never make it easy for them by giving them ammunition.
The whole McGinn saga was a farce and even if fellow supporters reckoned him no better than what we have, it was clear that the club made a bid (s) and appeared very amateurish and dithery.
This is not befitting a club of our size, stature and reputation.

Agree0 Disagree0

08 Aug 2018 23:44:32
How anyone can be upset about a player who clearly cannot get in our first team is beyond me.
They line up to have a dig after dig at the board, this is after they have spouted we only want players who can walk into our team.
The players will come believe me, maybe not the ones you want but then again YOU are not the Celtic manager.
As for the CH debate well we have bought them ( Hendry Commper recently) they may not be there yet but we can't keep buying CHs cos you want to.
I would have thought a RB would be more in line with what we need.

Agree0 Disagree0

08 Aug 2018 23:50:06
We all hope that we will pull another Ntcham out the bag and McGinn becomes an afterthought.

But the fact is it going to cost a lot more than the reported 2.75 mill to do so and I think that is what's sticking in everyone's throat atm after seeing him holding thst Villa jersey today.

Agree0 Disagree0

08 Aug 2018 23:57:28
Eloquently put my friend but if we had maybe done business earlier we just might be In a slightly better position.

Agree0 Disagree0

09 Aug 2018 00:46:03
Exactly Mally which makes the fact we have been waiting on McGinn for so long (pretty much full window)

Cut the board some slack as it was a guaranteed signing. Especially after Armstrongs departure

Not to mention the fact BR has specifically said he wanted him and was after him in several interviews

Yet we find ourselves in not a great position in the 40 million quid tournament. Over what now looks like a few grand!

Agree0 Disagree0

McGinn is not the issue. He is only the latest in a long line of symptoms of the ever present malaise that is seeped into our club regarding pushing on. Or I should say, not pushing on.

The cause of those symptoms however is Pistake Pete. Let’s be clear about that. His ego cost us signing the best young Scottish player outwith our own team, because he believes his hype. He’s the man, nobody out negotiates Pistake. McGinn will be successful and will go on to earn Villa millions, which should have been ours and all for a poxy £750k. All because nobody fecks with Pistake.

In January, having got ourselves into the EL, we go down his well worn cheapskate path, instead of tooling up and bedding in the quality we needed to beat Zenit and qualify for this years CL, we sign two defenders who aren’t good enough and Johnny Hayes! Think about that for ambition. Or lack of.

We win a double treble and Rogers states “we will strengthen, we must. ” Fast forward three months and we are two quality players down and not replaced. We needed new defenders, better defenders. Instead, we fielded a makeshift, inexperienced and simply not up to it defence. Our best two defenders were at the WC, didn’t Pistake know that tourney was on? Didn’t he know we needed to move fast?

We are now facing down the barrel of a £60m hit in lost revenue. We have brought in nobody. The 3rd qualifier and not one additional player is here. Not one.

Rogers frustration at this was conveyed at the press conference, much to the chagrin of all those who buried their heads in the sand and claimed everything was fine, we would sort it, we will get them in for the CL group stages. Well, how is that train of thought working for anybody?

I have said it many times on here. Rangers would never derail us, we would and by we I mean Pistake Pete. His aversion to spending money, investing in quality, ensuring we are tooled up to face the challenge of qualifying and not being humiliated is all encompassing.

Not one player brought in and the ones being mentioned do not fit into the pup we have been sold of real quality. How any future targets will be affected by his incompetence costing us a CL berth is yet to be seen, but don’t get your hopes up money will be spent. Players will now be sold to ensure the bank balance still triggers his bonus. Not spent on what we need.

Rogers must be asking himself are they serious about progressing. I know I am. And I know the answer and Brendan must too, which doesn’t auger well for his long term stay here. His future of securing a good club is dependent upon him being relatively successful in Europe. Not being backed makes that a pipe dream.

Another defensive lapse lost us a goal. How long will it take for him to realise that the type of player we need can't be found in Primark?

The real quality that we need and which Brendan has talked about, is as near to us today as it was after Seville. We baulk when we are ahead. We have done it again. The real tragedy is nobody is surprised. That we find ourselves in the 3rd qualifying round without a single addition, not even replacing the talent we lost, is infuriating, but it is in no way a shock to anyone. We expect it, it’s normal, we have been there, done that and have three sets of drawers bursting with the Tshirts.

I read some blaming the press. That is totally ridiculous and example of diverting the gaze to where the real problem is. Step forward Lawell. He caused Rogers to speak. He fecked up getting McGinn. He failed to deliver a single Rogers target. He caused us to play a makeshift defence worse than our best, but flawed defence, or does anybody really believe there wasn’t a defender or two on the list provided by Rogers.

Today is the last day of the English window, let’s all hold our breath and see what the wait was for. A big factor for us is convincing talent to join us is being in the CL. What now if we crash out? If he doesn’t spend money when we qualify, what hope do we have now that he has scuppered that with his cautious, let’s get the price down, HOW MUCH? Attitude.

But let’s all rejoice that at least his money’s safe, while we all have to settle for here we go again. He should hang his head in shame. He has let every single Celtic fan down. He talks the talk, but when it comes to the walking bit, he sits on his arse and we stall.

Same me the sun shines out of his arse adoration. It doesn’t. It never has and it never will. When we need him most he is awol. And so are the players we needed. Thanks Pistake, enjoy your bonus. You’ve really earned it.

I like Izzy but this isn't scouting this is just lazy. If he signs we need to let Miller go out on loan and playing in his natural position again. Although learning to defend isn't a bad thing this project to make him a left back has failed.

Totally Stan same player that won same accolade as Neymar at same age.

Would forgive his defensive display if he wasn't as door going forward

Need to end this failed LB adventure immediately and let the boy go back to his strength.

Would have to be an almighty turnaround mind to displace Morgan, Johnston or new Aussie bhoy.

A disappointing day as expected McGinn to be signed and a decent result tonight. I don't think we played that bad tonight we just didn't look a threat upfront, losing Dembele is a huge blow we were playing some great football with the him and Edouard in attack. Anything can happen next week though atleast we will go there knowing we have to go for it so maybe it's a good thing. Pleased to see Griffiths back. A very big couple of weeks for this Board. BR has looked demoralised in his interviews this week and that is not a good sign. He was let down by badly by PLs pathetic attempt to sign McGinn. Are you going to back the man who has won double trebles or what! Is it too late, we'll see next week.

Believable2 Unbelievable0

08 Aug 2018 22:58:45
It’s all starting to unravel, I def think he’ll leave after this season, depending what happens the next few weeks, maybe a lot sooner than that, Peters penny pinching is starting to catch up with us now.

09 Aug 2018 01:13:08
Holy god, we get a draw in Europe and a player that wouldn't get into our first team signs for a championship club probably on 3 times more money than we could offer him and people are claiming its all unraveling and the manager is going to walk away!
BR said he would have liked McGinn but we had 3 bids turned down ( If I had anything to do with the Celtic board I would never do any business with Hibs again) we then matched Villa's bid but the boy went to a club where he will get first team football.
BR also said he wanted Quality to improve the First Team, Does anyone think McGinn would have done that?
Now that the English window has closed just wait and see who we get in the next 3 weeks.

Poor performance they are not that great and we created nothing. tbe what transfer scenario is weighing us down im my opinion and the mcginn thing is a shambles for us.

Believable2 Unbelievable0

08 Aug 2018 22:55:15
To think of BR wanted McGinn that badly I think it was a case of the board thinking we are Celtic and he will come after nae other team come in for him. The board have definitely backed BR but the thing is for me is I wish when Villa came in for McGinn that we didn't put that matching late bid in just shows desperation for me.

Agree0 Disagree0

08 Aug 2018 22:18:16
Well, I don’t know what to say, played ok at times but lacklustre up front which seems the same story every time we step up a level.

I can’t see us getting a positive result in Athens, this leading to no major signings and I’m sorry but as much as a treble treble is great it’s not an improvement - progress in Europe is our benchmark for improvement

I’m just deflated and next week will be horrible if we can’t get through.

Believable3 Unbelievable0

08 Aug 2018 22:28:26
We don't have a squad capable of operating at this level. Greek football is about 8 places above the SPL so we know we are in for a difficult evening. Saying that we did ok, were the better team but our away record would suggest we are going out.

Agree0 Disagree0

08 Aug 2018 22:28:29
Fear the worst now Kev T. The last few weeks have been a shambles on the transfer front. We have not bolstered the squad in anyway.

I am becoming more and more concerned about Rodgers hanging about if he isn’t going to be backed by the board.

Rodgers management and the squad he’s developed has made the club millions yet they don’t support him in trying to land his main target.

Agree3 Disagree0

08 Aug 2018 22:29:48
Why can’t you see us getting a result in Athens? We dominated almost all of the game and tbh, apart from the it goal, which was our fault, I don’t remember them really having any chances.

Agree0 Disagree0

08 Aug 2018 22:39:01
We will get through this, in Brendan we trust. 10 men are hard to beat. Just ask the huns.

Agree0 Disagree0

08 Aug 2018 22:46:28
Kevbhoy they were down to 10 men from the 57 min. How many chances did we create in that time. Passing the ball over and back in front of their defence without creating any clear chances. Not sure that is dominating to me. Maybe only possession.

Kevbhoy, our away record is very poor. So can’t see why we would get a victory in Athens?

Agree0 Disagree0

08 Aug 2018 23:02:19
There is nothing to suggest we will win over there, they hardly ever concede, we will concede at least two, because whoever plays at the back will make mistakes as always at this level away.

Agree0 Disagree0

08 Aug 2018 23:24:52
It’s difficult to break down a team who park 10 men in and around the box. I agree our away record isn’t the best but I’m refusing to be doom and gloom like some of you. I saw enough tonight to convince me that we’re a better team than them. We haven’t conceded an away goal in the previous 2 games so hopefully good things come in threes.

Agree1 Disagree0

09 Aug 2018 00:29:13
Disappointing day yes. However bit of an overeaction from a lot of fans on here. Is the overeaction due to a flood of signings over by. Is this because we missed out on a player who wasn't bothered if he came to us or not and wanted guaranteed starting spot, no harm yo McGinn. . Nobody is getting this. you need to earn it. We are still in Europe and have and tricky task ahead but we should remain confident instead of wetting the bed. We have had better days and the office for sure. If drawing 1 1 at home and not signing a player who wouldn't start or immediately improve the starting 11 is that then I will gladly take that. Oh and the transfer windows is still open.

Wow most of you are a pessimistic bunch 😅 there's no point even sending the team next week if you went by reading this page, should have won tonight had we been more clinical and took oppurtunites better, so why can't we beat them next week? Score 2 next week and we're through is how i see it.

Not a bad performance but not quite good enough . thought mid field played well as did kt. and our two young defenders . the problem 1st half imo was eddy who looked a bit naive all night and big rogic were playing too far apart and then moving Into same areas . rogic wasn't linking up between mid and front which for europe is where we lack . one big gripe is has anybody seen Sinclair beating a man on the outside how many times did he cut inside and choke the play. their goal came from big lustig thinking the ball was going out then their man done great to swing in a great ball. Will they score over there I think yes . can we score as many or one more? They are well organised . pity big moussa was injured as kt was putting in some great crosses tonight. but we are still in this the.

08 Aug 2018 22:34:12
you said it DRB: that's about it.

Would you explain your point about Eddy and Rogic a bit more, I'd like to grasp it. There was no fluency at the end and certainly, we wren't firing on all cylinders. And merely solid won't cut it against a regular CL team in knockout home and away ties. Work to do.

Agree0 Disagree0

08 Aug 2018 21:58:15
May not be a bad thing. When we go away defending a lead we tend to play para as ****.

Astrana, Anderlecht at home (when we could lose and still qualify for Europa) , and even the recent game in Rosenborg who we made look like a team even though they were nowhere near our level at home! Are the most recent that spring to mind Beer Sheeva is another 4-2 at home. Jailbreak away

At least we go into thos game knowing we need a win no messing about

I think we have seen in last 2 qualifiers that Edouard as dynamite as he may be needs MD in beside him to lead the line and let him do his thing

I love Lustig but he's to slow. KT, Ntchm and McGregor were running riot down that left side. Forrest had the beating of that LB on the right but no support

The state of the bench tonight just proves that BR is trying to get through these qualifiers with both hands tied behind his back. We may well now make some signings. But if this away tie goes south it will be once again too little too late.

Lack of killer instinct the problem tonight. Athens goal a shocker for us defensively, bad goal to lose and Lustig should never ever let that cross come in from that angle like that, shocking defending from him, Ajer shouldn't let it go past him either. For the record I thought Hendry had a good game tonight and getting fed up of the sighs every time he's near the ball. He will become a good defender.

He's obviously playing considerably outside his comfort zone, campsie bhoy, as a former and recent dundee player, but he's showing why we bought him and growing in ability every game I think. That's how learning occurs.

Agree1 Disagree0

08 Aug 2018 22:38:58
Fair points Campsie, he’s good in the air and fast, his recovery is good as well. More minutes in the league should build his confidence up. I just think people are too quick to judge at times - Ntcham and Odsonne being prime examples, a lot of people criticised them at first.

Dire performance tonight for me. All Celtic seem to be interested in chasing is midfielders in abundance and strikers. what about the defence? Hendry, comper, jozo ( who couldn't even get a game in front of hendry) boyata anaw, I'd get shot of the lot of them. Wee Tierney must be wondering when he's going to get something decent to play beside as we could replace everyone else in that back line as far as I'm concerned. That result sees us out tonight no question, we couldn't even trouble them when they went to 10 men. absolutely sick.

That was shocking by Celtic tonight. I thought KT and James were super tonight. The team lacked the touch of class that the supporters were promised and as usual sold short. Even Scott Brown has a nightmare in midfield. I hope that Muppet lawell enjoyed watching that rubbish because it's his fault the quality at this level isn't there. We couldn't even create any clear chances when they were down to 10 men for over 30 mins. Have to say their defence was super and there CB number 4 in particular. With our away record and watching that performance it's hard to see us get a result over there. Fingers crossed l am wrong. Also feel for BR God only knows what he is thinking.

Thought we played well first half, full of energy, moving the ball well, creating space and scored a fantastic goal. Then calamity!
They surprised me with their fitness and sharpness for their first game of the season, but it was our slackness and naivety that cost us - yet again in Europe - and we never recovered, losing confidence and composure and making wrong decisions.
Big Eddy is clearly not a lone-striker and needs a partner to play off and link with, like we saw in pre-season and earlier qualifiers and we really don't capitalize on the vast amount of set-plays we get in most games. Possesion and ball retention is always very good but that final ball (especially crosses) is poor.
They definitely have the advantage, although - unlike Rosenberg we will not be able to play as negatively and that's a good thing as we have never been comfortable as a defensive team.
A 2-2 draw or better, would be 'fantasy football' and a couple of decent signings in the meantime would give everyone such a lift.

Blackhillbhoy ya the defence was poor except KT but the middle field are so one dimensional is it unreal. Forrest and Mc Gregor played well but no support. All that did was pass over and back in front of their defence. Very little quality in mid field. Brown has a shocker.

Transfer-wise, I must say I'm glad we have kept our front 3 intact. Ed, Mousse, and Griff. That's a CL front line for me, and if we still have a EL back line I still think that really is a coup. To break our transfer record in order to do so says it all really: however dysfunctional we suppose the executive to be, keeping our best to build around them--and I think of Ntcham here too--has to be the priority, and is the absolute surest way forward.

Something ain’t right here

BR says he wants quality

So if rumours are true then why we looking at

Denayer
Izaguirre
McGinn - will be a sub unless Brown gets injured

Arzani - obviously signed on potential

Where is the quality in any of these signings if not one of them would get in the starting 11.

Could have said same about edouard last season kev.
But ultimately we don't know how good a player will be till he's playing for us.
The Izzy situation is different. We only need back up for LB because we ain't going to get a better one than Teirney.

Agree0 Disagree0

08 Aug 2018 19:00:30
Kev T at Sunderland there were a few factors that hindered denayer.
The club was in turmoil
He was continually played out of position
He had injuries
He done ok in Turkey picking up a league medal and winning a cup.

Realistically, any win without conceding and I'll be content. But if we start as we played in the second half last round we could set things up very nicely here and run out 3-0, 4-1, something like that.

Now that Brendan has spoken out regarding his disappointment regarding this seasons transfer dealings, how much do people think he was expecting? he spoke about a few positions filled with “quality players to enhance the squad/ team . With us making decent money off the last two champions league campaign he must have expected a decent purse for transfers . With our net spend so far about a million, he must have had some idea of his budget?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

08 Aug 2018 16:54:03
Am waiting until the window has shut in England to reserve judgement on the board I think it opens up a better opportunity for us in terms of prices and people available. In a ideal world we would have all our players in for the start of pre season but for 1 reason or another we normally leave it late. On the McGinn situation I think the board have done the right thing they shouldn’t let another club hold us to ransom and if he really wants to play for us he sits tight or only agrees to speak to Celtic.

Agree0 Disagree0

08 Aug 2018 16:57:42
The fact of the matter is PL will do the financial minimum to win the league and qualify for CL. What we should be doing is building a stronger team every season. that's how you progress in Europe and maintain your position on top if the league. This is why we struggle in Europe every year. We never go into the CL qualifiers stronger each season. We will never progress in Europe with this strategy.

Agree1 Disagree0

08 Aug 2018 17:54:52
I can understand being cautious and cannot with the clubs cash, while trying to maintain a wage structure and balancing the books.
However, when a manager (and players) perform way above expectations, creating records left right and centre, it should not be a license for the club to take advantage, show complacency and contempt and neglect these opportunities to progress and improve.
Not only have we been coining it in with tens of millions from the CL, but we have continued to sell-off players at huge profit, many of these not replaced with similar or better standard.

Agree1 Disagree0

08 Aug 2018 13:41:47
So ED, to prevent repeat questions can you give us a quick low down on the current interest from celtic in these players?

Denayer - Any truth?
Izaguirre - Any Truth?
Roberts - Any Truth?
Arzani - Loan to Buy?

Cheers.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed007's Note - Celtic have matched Villa's offer Hibs, McGinn hasn't agreed personal terms with Villa yet. I don't believe the the Denayer and Izaguirre stuff at all and the kid from Oz will have an option to buy at the end of his loan.}

I hope he does the business, I felt if Rosenborg had anything up front we would have conceded a goal. If this team are a step up his inclusion is a worry. To be honest magicpole we have needed a new experience CB for the last 2 seasons. Look what the Celtic board have done this season. Armstrong and Eric sold, paddy gone back. Bain in on free and French Eddie in which had to be done. All and all with what they got for the two lads ving out it covered French Eddie transfer. Very disappointing by Celtic and PL. Right let's knock the transfer stuff on the head as tonight we are in a game. I would assume BR, as always, will start with a shape than can change given their intent. Not really going to guess a team more worried about our support to be honest.

The reason for this, in my opinion, is too many of our support seem to be obsessed with transfers. The fact is we have not a clue what has happened, or happening, in these deals. But let's remember the players who are used tonight need us to be at full on Celtic Park volume.

Some passes will go astray, some players will make mistakes, we might even lose a goal but we must stay behind them. No groans and moans or shouting abuse, just support. This is a tough game, next week will be times ten i would think, so we need goals. We have rattled much better teams than this and can do it again.

Quick mention to Broony.100 European games. Outstanding.

This is the biggest game of the season so far and although we have lost two soft goals in our last two home games, I think we still have plenty going forward to get a result.
Rogic was immense on Saturday and with Sinclair, KT and Griff all in contention, we should be able to name a very strong squad.
The transfer activity (or lack of it) is very topical at this time so it won't go away, but it will not distract the manager and team from what is required and the support will no doubt do their bit tonight. Believable1 Unbelievable0

Okay so Brendan has spoken about his frustration about not bringing in qaulity players. Again I can completely agree with Brendan, the board haven’t backed him they way they should have simple as that and if I was BR then I’d be fuming with everything I’ve done for the club, the board for me are cheep skates that hate digging into there pockets when the push comes to shove even when we’ve made tons of millions from champions league money, league title wins, player sales, sponsorships etc. It’s simply not good enough from the board. But on a different note now we’re actually getting linked with impressive names and players, if we sign the following then this could really end of a bad transfer window to a phenomenal one!

- Patrick Roberts £ Permeant
- Emilo Izzagurrie £ Permeant
- Jason Denayer £ Permeant / Loan
- Pedro Chirivella £ Permeant
- Daniel Arazani £ Loan / 2 Years
- John Mcginn £ Permeant

& if we managed to get mcginn that would be a huge bonus as like I’ve said in the past he’d have been my number 1 target and now that another club is in for him we really should just play what there asking. Jus felt it be a good time to post on my opinion on the boards transfer window dealings and Brendan’s comments at the press conference. here’s hoping we sign at least half of these players as it would be fantastic and a sign the board are finally getting there finger out.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

08 Aug 2018 08:17:01
Don't want Denayer back, firstly never rated him that highly in his spell here and was carried by Van Dijk, secondly if he comes in It's not that he really wants to be here more nobody else wanted him.

Agree3 Disagree1

08 Aug 2018 10:12:11
Yeah not Denayer for me either. Thought he was lazy anyway can take his 70%% and play elsewhere. Don't think he would get upto standards to get into team as he would need to give 100% and be fit enough to simply train with first team. If he did up his game though?

Agree1 Disagree0

08 Aug 2018 10:23:08
Everybody knows what Denayer said when he left. But, he was a 19 boy, and I think, when we we were all 19 did we never make an arse of things. Let’s move on, hope he has grown up and if he does the business then out it down to his lack of experience. Show me a man who hasn’t as s young guy said something we regret. Whether he is the best we could get is up for debate. That he can play us not. One good thing about the whole sorry situation I am hoping for is s change of the mindset of the board.

Brendan has took us to a different level, the board need to trust him to take us further by moving quickly to try and get him what he needs when he needs it. My fear was that he would leave which would have had the support enraged.

Our penchant as a club for stalking when we are in too has been the biggest frustration for me as a Celtic fan and I know I am not alone there. Hopefully a penny has dropped and we look at spending money as an investment we will recoup through CL qualification. We develop these players and sell them in eventually for more than we spend and at the same time out more weight in the boot we have firmly placed on the neck of our friends across the city.

Those of us who lived through the, you put down a fiver jibe, have waited to exact a terrible vengeance on them. We are at a point where another couple of CL qualifications will leave them floundering forever. If we become more competitive in the CL then at home our dominance only increases. Our second team could win the league here, a team that is capable of putting up a good show on the biggest stage cements that.

We have a tough game tonight and next week. We all know our lads will give it their all. Hopefully we have enough even without the players Brendan wanted. I think we will, we have made it more difficult than it should have been, and I’m confident in the future after this period we won’t do that again. The stakes are too high. Good luck to our Bhoys tonight, we are all behind them and our manager. COYBIG.

Agree1 Disagree0

08 Aug 2018 10:36:26
Denayer did not get player of the year by being lazy. He is a very good player who complimented VVD as much as VVD did him. A very good partnership. I couldn't care less what he said about Scottish football i'm sure we all said the same at some point. The media didn't print all the good he said about Celtic when he left or when he was linked with the club at Xmas time.

Agree1 Disagree0

08 Aug 2018 10:59:23
I really couldn’t care less what Denayer said, he was 19 and was probably got carried away in the movement, I’m 18 myself and I’m never done making mistakes when saying things when asked lol, it’s just the part off growing up, and since then I’m sure he has a lot off positive things to say about Celtic but that doesn’t get mentioned. Again you can’t discredit his talent. He was a great CB when he was with us and him and VVD make a brilliant partnership together. If we sign him al be more than happy and hopefully on a Permeant Of maybe £3-5 million.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed007's Note - He was 21/22 when he said Scottish football was too easy and that he enjoyed playing for Galatasaray more than he did for Celtic.
Do you think he's changed his mind about Celtic and Scotland, considering his agent has been trying to get him a move back to Turkey (preferably Gala) all summer, because I don't.}

08 Aug 2018 11:11:24
Denayer is the type of signing I see as pointless. Is he better than what we've got? Boyota made the Belgian WC squad, Denayer was nowhere near it. Are we short of Centre backs? No. Out of the list above would take Roberts and McGinn . A fully fit Roberts improves us and McGinn would be great replacement for Armstrong. As for the Australian lad coming on loan no harm might be a gem. Don't know much about the Spaniard.

Agree0 Disagree1

08 Aug 2018 11:16:44
Magic me and you don't agree on a lot but you just hit the nail on the head with denayer
He was a young lad and if we held every stupid comment against young guys we'd have no players.
He has also went away and got experience at a good level.
He knows our club and will settle quickly.
Whether he is better than our first choice CBs is up for debate but he would definitely make the squad better.

Agree0 Disagree0

08 Aug 2018 12:23:27
I am not totally convinced he is the best we could get either. I am willing to let go his comments though and they pissed me off too, so I understand those who can’t. I just hope he has improved as a player and grown up a bit. It’s still just a rumour though, so same rules apply for me regarding any player mentioned.

At least we are talking about bolstering the defence, that’s a good step. Be happy to see wee Izzy back to to cover KT if that happens.

{Ed007's Note - Really, Deanayer and Izzy and you're happy after the moaning you've done for months about the defence? If that's the best players our scouts are coming up with we're needing to gut the scouting department, both moves stink of desperation and it's just boosting squad numbers again, apart from the McGinn deal the whole window is starting to stink of Lawwell and his Man City connection again.
A young Australian that City asked us to take and who has been described by his manager at Melbourne City of having "bad habits" and "needing strong coaches around him", he'll also will need to work on his physique before he gets near the first team, and now Roberts and Denayer, 2 players City have no use for and can't get rid of.
No worries, just get Mark to phone his dad at Celtic.}

Dont think i would take deynayer back to be honest. he played alongside the highest paid defender in the world. few times when VVD wasnt playing alongside him he looked lost. he was rank rotten at sunderland. can't say how he done at galatasary but you would imagine of he played well enough tbey would snap him up.

I’m not happy with the players coming in. Happy would be better players. Better than what we have in reserve, yes. I have given up hoping for class players. It only leads to greater dissapointment. Class players cost money, we don’t spend money, so, Denayer is better than Jozo, Hendry. Izzy is better than anything we have at LB.

I seriously can’t believe that since Jan window that’s the best we can come up with. But as I said, we do things on the cheap. Always have, always will.

I also realise that on the whole, Rogers has signed 20 players and three get a game, so piss poor by him and his team. I thought with only 3 needed he might improve on that, not much it seems, but as I said better than what we have.

Our defence is rubbish, it’s now hopefully less rubbish, but will still get our arses handed to us in the CL. If we make it that is. If we sell Boyata we need another CB, hopefully spend whatever we get to replace him. And if anybody believes that they need treatment.

Our scouts have obviously failed their badges if this is the best we can do, that’s Celtic down to a tee. McGinn should be signed and three quality defenders. We have none and Deneyer isn’t even confirmed. I hope we get better than him, but if it is him hopefully he has improved.

If he chooses them due to more game time then we can't really argue with that. Boy has a grear attitude and will want to play every game, something he won't do here straight away.

Totally agree lm67. Not much more you can do if he chooses somewhere else.

If we had signed him with the deal we are offering now he would have jumped at it. He is going elsewhere because Lawell fecked about. That’s it. McGinn would have signed without a thought or fear about game time. He may have chosen to go elsewhere but he was made to feel wanted.

Hi Eds just read evening times are claiming that Celtic have now matched Hibs valuation and have matched his personal terms to what Villa are offering they say it's now down to the player claiming that source close to McGinn say that the best chance of 1st team football are lying with Villa don't know what to believe.
