Paddy likely to be a loan deal. Disappointed but we need to remember that he is a young Englishman contracted to one of England's richest and most competitive clubs, it would be immensely difficult for him to walk away from that permanently. Look at his way, if he was our player and Man City came knocking for him he'd be thinking the opportunity would be too good to turn down. If we do sign him on loan I don't think it means we didn't try to get him permanently.

Hope it's a 2yr deal then.

Anyway we can get paddy back to Celtic park is good enough for me, just to keep Kieran happy lol 😁.

I read it will be 2.5 million for the loan period!

Agree0 Disagree0

09 Aug 2017 18:57:55
Pud what u read and actual amount may or may not be similar.

Agree0 Disagree0

08 Aug 2017 23:08:33
Think tonight proved that there is no need for us to buy several players in the last few weeks of the window. There have been calls for us to buy a new centre back and right back but Ralston and Ajer were immense tonight. Why spend money when the talent is already here, we just need to nurture it. I'd take more satisfaction at seeing those 2 and Miller getting plenty of game time this season and developing than I would from signing someone for Β£5mil just to be able to say we spent Β£x amount in the window. Paddy in will do for me!

Believable7 Unbelievable1

08 Aug 2017 23:31:23
Agree with that these lads are being thrown in and have passed with flying colours why spend cash for the sake of it these lads who shone tonight can do what KT did. They won't let us down when called upon.

Agree2 Disagree2

09 Aug 2017 07:41:13
Fully agree that these players need more game time to progress this season and can be relied upon but only in domestic football. We need to bring in a higher calibre player to push on in europe as we finished fourth in the group last year without a win and it's unlikely we will get any easier of a group if we make it this year.

Agree1 Disagree1

09 Aug 2017 09:55:41
Felt a bit sorry for Miller although he had a good game he looked as if he was caught between left back and his natural winger game. i think benyu is no better than Henderson. and kouassi the better of him and ntcham . good problem to have . fingers crossed it's just a slight knock he took.5 home grown acadamy boys playing and imo young ralston was m. o. m . is this a good sign the system is now starting to work . suprised aitcheson never got a spot on bench last night though.

Agree0 Disagree2

09 Aug 2017 11:45:00
DRB I think benyu more skillfull than Henderson but Henderson works harder and gets about more.
I think Henderson time up at Celtic because he isn't going to get in to the centre of our midfield.
I really like him but think it's best for his career to move on.

Agree1 Disagree0

09 Aug 2017 12:49:25
Kev it's a strange one . is there anything in the background happened with henderson as I can't see his football being the problem.

Agree0 Disagree0

09 Aug 2017 13:53:26
Does anyone else think that maybe Rodgers played that team to show how much he believes in the young ones as back up?

Agree0 Disagree0

08 Aug 2017 22:49:16
Very happy with that performance, Great football, great goals and incredible work rate right up until FT. Hopefully Kouassi isn't too bad he was playing very well until he was kicked from behind. So many plus points, KT as Captain with a wonder strike, Ralston getting a goal and having a solid display as did other youngsters Benyu, Miller, and Ajer, Griffiths 2 goals and in good form already, and Armstrong looking more like himself. 26 shots at goal shows how well this team is playing, BR is building up a very talented squad and as I said this morn best since 2003 in my opinion so much more to come from this team hopefully Paddy in and Dembele and Boyata back sooner than expected. What a job picking an 11 from this lot our 2nd 11 would walk the SPL.

Believable5 Unbelievable1

{Ed007's Note - I was gutted to see big Kouassi have to go off injured, he was looking brilliant in there.}

08 Aug 2017 23:09:27
Didn't see the game tonight as I was working but I caught the BBC Scotland pundits gushing over how good a performance it was. If they are praising it then it must have been good! This absolutely fills me with joy that we can send an almost second string team out and dominate another SPFL club. This has now given Brendan a good headache in having more players available for the Astana ties. It really is a great time to be Celtic!

Agree0 Disagree1

08 Aug 2017 23:11:16
He strolled it Ed he's going to be a big player for us. Looked a sore one don't even think we got a freekick. No surprise there though.

Agree0 Disagree1

{Ed007's Note - It was a weird one because the commentators didn't seem to notice he got clattered on the left knee by the Kilmarnock player coming in from behind and late. Everyone of those youngsters proved tonight that they can slot in comfortably in most SPFL games which is good for them and for the Club as we should be relying on them rather than waste money on average squad players like we have in recent years.}

08 Aug 2017 23:27:02
There's a good balance at the moment between the youngsters, new signings, and the guys who have been here for a few seasons. What a difference the new park has made to the speed we pass the ball around can't wait to see how good it will be this time next year.

Agree0 Disagree1

09 Aug 2017 00:57:21
Managed to catch the goals there on YouTube. Tierney's goal will be hard to beat for goal of the season and the season's just started! That's how good it was. Even Armstrong looked like he enjoyed his goal.
Tinker a bit more and beat Partick on Friday then the big one that could make our season that wee bit more special! MTH! πŸ€πŸ€πŸ€.

Agree1 Disagree1

{Ed007's Note - It'll be interesting to see Friday's team after tonight's performance and with the Astana game looming large. I think for Astana the midfield and front players pick themselves with the usual suspects apart from who partners Brown in the 2 between Armstrong and Ntcham but with the injuries to the defence and the way Ralston and Ajer played tonight Rodgers might fancy a tinker. Ralston at RB with Lustig in the middle beside Simunovic. ?.

09 Aug 2017 11:11:34
Spoiled for choice at the moment!

Agree0 Disagree0

09 Aug 2017 10:52:54
Ralston has to be a must for me Ed! Not that am chasing anyone out the door but above you are referring to bang average players is there any real need for Gamboa now?

If he is a pick ahead of Ralston now even at sub level unless my eyes are deceiving me he is already better!

Surely not lost on you or anyone else two goals from our full backs albeit KT was playing elsewhere for the first time since it was built Lennoxtown and that academy might be "bearing fruit" worthwhile and not one every for years that makes more than 40 appearances (Y)

Agree0 Disagree0

09 Aug 2017 19:03:53
K Tierney may be glad that Brendan has found another position as Millar may very well be making a claim for left back permanently.

Personally I've never understood the idea, in Celtic's case anyway, of choosing cup games to experiment. Is it not safer to do so in the league? That said, it's always pleasing to see youngsters getting a chance and I'd be happy to see the likes of Ralston, Ajer, Miller, Kouassi and Benyu getting more game time.

Agree0 Disagree1

08 Aug 2017 17:43:34
Really hope Kouassi and Benyu get a start tonight. Would it be worth resting Griff and playing Ciftci with the qualifiers coming up?

Agree0 Disagree0

08 Aug 2017 18:07:10
Kouassi is browns back up so we should get a good look tonight, would like ajer and ralston on tonight not an experiment just boys taking their chance.

Ed, With the Paddy rumours now in full flow do you have any idea of what the situation really is. Keep reading conflicting reports, Man City want rid of him, others saying they want him out on loan as they still believe he can play for them in the future. I'm not a fan of loans but Paddy is the exception if we can get him in and he helps us qualify for the Group stages we can use the CL cash to add another 2 quality additions next summer. If it's the first option and Man City do want rid of him do you think we will break our transfer record to get a deal done? If we were to sign Paddy, add a quality CB and Keeper next summer I reckon this would be our best squad since 2003.

Believable4 Unbelievable1

{Ed007's Note - Man City would prefer Roberts to move on a permanent deal but Roberts would prefer a loan. No matter what option happens I expect Celtic to be involved and yes, if needs be and within reason, I think we would break our transfer record for Roberts.}

08 Aug 2017 15:32:27
Cheers Ed, I'll go get my shirts printed.

Agree3 Disagree2

{Ed007's Note - I wouldn't do that just yet lol.}

08 Aug 2017 15:48:46
It's ok if he doesn't sign having Paddy on the back of a Celtic top won't look out of place.

Agree2 Disagree2

08 Aug 2017 17:00:12
The strongest team needs all the practise it can get before the euro ties, don't let's go back to this rotation nonsense, the full team has only had three competitive games so far.

Agree0 Disagree0

08 Aug 2017 17:09:11
why would he only want to come on loan? unless he is trying to run down his contract so he can sign for us on a free and pick up a big signing bonus πŸ˜‰.

Really think if we can get by Astana we will have one of our best seasons in the champions league.

Potential pot 3 if any of the 4 seeded teams above us go out and they all have pretty tough ties.

The Pot 1 teams actually don't look too frightening if you can avoid the obvious 3 or 4, think Pot 2 yer humped either way.

With a bit of luck and the arrival of Paddy Roberts we could be looking at a pretty strong squad for the group stages. Would be brilliant to slap a PL squad out and make the last 16!

HH.

Believable2 Unbelievable3

08 Aug 2017 13:45:31
can we draw liverpool?, can see it on the cards maself.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed007's Note - If Liverpool qualify they'll go into Pot 3 so yes we can get them and I've felt for a while that'll happen too. Have you seen the pots so far?

Pot 1: Real Madrid, Bayern Munich, Chelsea, Juventus, Benfica, Monaco, Spartak Moscow, Shakhtar Donetsk.

Pot 2: Barcelona, Atletico Madrid, Paris Saint-Germain, Borussia Dortmund, Man City, Porto, Man United.

Pot 3: Switzerland Basel, Anderlecht, Roma, Beşiktaş.

Pot 4: RB Leipzig.

Depending on Play- Off results Spurs will be in Pot 2 or 3 and Feyenoord will be in pot 3 or 4.}

08 Aug 2017 14:04:39
Ed, am i right in saying its:
Olympiakos
Sevilla
Napoli
Liverpool

that are above us for Pot 3?

Think one of our best chances is Nice beating Napoli. Just hoping one of them get caught out, even Olympiakos.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed007's Note - Yes mate, we need one of them to go out. Liverpool could find Hoffenheim tricky opponents and Sevilla have Turkish opponents which is never easy, especially the away tie.}

08 Aug 2017 14:09:37
So its going to be very hard Ed to avoid one English team because they all need to be kept apart!

With 5 teams in it they should scrub that rule IMO.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed007's Note - I agree mate that rule should be scrapped but we know they won't as it allows a lot of big teams to avoid each other in the groups which suits them and UEFA.}

08 Aug 2017 14:20:03
Aye, Sevilla love a europa league run as well.

Big adebayor has been banging them in for them I'm sure. Buzzing for a good run in Europe for the team.

I think a decent run this season will open us up to setting a benchmark that we do belong in top comps with the rich folk, and attract a better quality player in line with teams like Benfica.

Is something triggering it?

Planning permission for Hotel granted?

VVD money incoming

I was actually going to do a Timalloy and give a tip and say for anyone into shares I have noticed the last twice Celtic have gained entry to CL by the time we get circa after or before the agm we jump at least 40 % in value without any major retrace mate (Y)

One would imagine Kev that there would be an option to buy this time

Loan or not think we all just delighted to get him back (y)

Agree2 Disagree0

08 Aug 2017 12:15:45
I would much rather the club had bought the player as there is no doubt we have the funds, however we can never go down the road of Β£8 - 12m players as it could wreck the budget, wage structure and player harmony within the club in a very short time
I suppose a loan deal is better than no paddy at all and the circumstances of a sale may change in the future and it also means we can add another couple before deadline.

Agree2 Disagree0

08 Aug 2017 23:43:22
Brilliant post, OAB. I would ask the peeps who want an 'option to buy'. if he sets the place alight (again) can u imagine the money Citeh will want? Look at who they have sold recently, and the sums involved. Think a loan suits all parties here TBH.

First time I've done one through the EPL site. I can't settle on a side. Quick tip needed please. What's the crack with player valuations based on popularity? For example I want De Bruyne. However I'd imagine a lot of people do. If I left him out until the second week, would he be cheaper? If so, by much?

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed007's Note -I've been doing the Football Rumours one for a few years now and as far as I know the prices stay the same, JT.}

08 Aug 2017 17:36:16
Nae worries thanks Ed. I'll just suck it and see.

Agree0 Disagree1

{Ed007's Note - Eh... OK then...

08 Aug 2017 21:25:43
Player values increase throughout the season. They will not change until after the match day, but as players are transferred in and out, the prices increase and drop depending on how popular they become. By the time the season ends some player's values will have increased by Β£1m +

The science behind player values are not revealed, but look on a Tuesday after a weekend match day to see how things roll.

Agree0 Disagree0

08 Aug 2017 21:40:21
JT - De Bruyne would be a great pick in my opinion. Pep likes to tinker with his team but De Bruyne pulls most of the strings.

Agree0 Disagree0

09 Aug 2017 07:48:35
Thanks WC. I think City will be incredible in the opponent's half this season, and De Bruyne is a huge part of that. Trying to squeeze Jesus in too but I think it leaves my defence too weak.

Agree0 Disagree0

09 Aug 2017 12:25:55
I don't usually orry about having top notch defenders. The points are in assists and goals and let's face it, the quality of defending in the EPL is not great, so I think it is a gamble spending a lot on a defence. Not convinced Spurs and Chelsea will keep as many clean sheets this year either.
