Earlier today I watched a rather strained RD admit we were lucky to be given a lifeline in the CL and state we were positively trying to sign at least one player before the deadline to take advantage of this opportunity.
He also hoped the existing squad would get a boost from this and lift their performances - Obviously unaware that our goalie was on his way out!

The utter contempt that is being shown to supporters and the new manger is scandalous; where will it all end?
I can understand that a deal for Forster was being negotiated, but after today's reprieve why rush him out the door? Southampton will not crumble if the deal was to be delayed until after the qualifier and CL cup-tie rules are not appropriate, so why the rush?

The Board have clearly written off any chance of European progress this season and are quite happy to make their money the easy way.
Sell any half decent players we have and hope the dross that's left manages to scrape the title.
Peter Lawell is doing a fantastic job - for Sevco!

Jim . The world does not start and end with Mr Lawwell. All agreements for the Forrester deal may have been finalised yesterday or earlier . We are big enough to get over the loss of our big goalie, who wouldn't necessary have been in the right frame of mind to play against Malibor with the deal in abeyance . Can't see how Sevco come into it .

Agree0 Disagree0

Yourman as far as a lot of fans are concerned the world doe's start and end with big Peter, I have alway's stated he was the best signing Celtic ever made, apart from Henke, but I do now think he has got to loosen the purse string's and at least give Ronny a chance to get thru the next round

Haven't posted in ages, lessens the hurt Celtic will cause me in 2014/2015. I keep telling myself that Celtic doesn't mean that much to me but sadly it does and I'm hurting badly, infact I've been hurting badly because of Celtic for a few seasons now.

Anyway, how will we progress to the CL proper.

We need a leader with no ego and with a calm head. Boot Mulgrew so far out of Celtic that he doesn't pass go or collect his £200.

So this is what I have in mind for the away game, given that Scrooge Plc will not spend to replace Brown or Ledley.

Bring back Barry Robson, place him in front of a back 4, go 4 1 4 1 away from home and play for a draw but if we go 1 down to stick to our plan. Then I feel we should be able to take them at Celtic Park. And I'd have Barry Robson Captain too.

Thoughts?!

Believable0 Unbelievable0

I don't know any of them well enough to express an opinion . Fair play to you for knowing these players

Agree0 Disagree0

Have to say the boy Zyro was class over the 2 legs, he would be my first choice

Aron johannason is a quality player. Where we not linked with him at same time as finnbogasson?

Ed I know I have asked u this before but are u sure we play this game against Maribor at cp I read a paper today saying celtic to be back at murrayfield hope this is not true as cp gives us that much needed edge IMO!

{Ed007's Note - Trust me, Tam, the game is at CP ;)

The pitch is laid, just needs a bit of settling in.The seats/dugouts are back in place and it's just a few small cosmetic jobs outside to do and everything is back in order.Won't take long to put goals in place.

If we do bring players in over the next week can we be sure they are RD's players or even his first choice, I think it's more of the case John Park finds the players and PL says 'yes' and then probably justifies it to the manager. I kn

Believable0 Unbelievable0

I think there will be a whole crowd of different aspects in the buying of any players . I think Park and Deila will be involved in the ability end and how the player fits in . P L will have the wee role of finance and if he doesn't fancy what he sees, he will deal with a clench fist and we won't have a deal, but if Deila's on board he may be somewhat more generous . I don't think he will do desperate, not yet anyway.

I know I'm constantly moaning but on the day we get a miracle allowing us back into the champions league what so we do?
We sell our keeper . When will the pain end. I admit I'm not a season ticket holder, moved down to newcastle when I was young . But when I do come up it's a 200 quid day. We need something back.
AnywAy, Who wil be number 1? Zaluska or Gordon? I've got a feeling he 'll go with zaluska which just about sums our signing policy up. The first new signing won't get picked

Celtic accepted a £10m bid for Forster.

We better start bringing in players (not projects ready made good players) damn fast now. Can't keep going on like this. I know I'm stating the obvious.

I see big Fraser lined up for £10 million to Southampton. Take the money can't knock that back. Hopefully get a few signings in positive result in Slovenia and steady the ship? Banter in work today was hilarious that lot haven't said a word for two and a half years and Thursday u couldn't shut them up. thank u very much legia club secretary!

I haven't posted for quite a while although I have been on regularly and like many I am annoyed and frustrated at what our beloved club has become. I fully understand the need for a club especially in Scotland with little finance from TV revenue etc to be well run and maintain a healthy bank balance however we do have money in the bank, we have consistently sold our best players and not replaced them. We have been in the CL and we sell merchandise in numbers along with the top clubs in the world. I'm not saying go out and spend tens of millions but are we honestly expected to sit back and accept loan deals or worse than average EPL rejects. I for one think not. I expect the isual we're looking for a gem, well one Wanyama out of 15 dross players bought on the cheap is not good enough. Sometimes you actually do get what you pay for.

Anyway I don't expect is to spend much money on new players even after the CL reinstatement. I was however quite glad to hear RD say he was looking to strengthen the squad ahead of Maribor.

Well Ronnie, looks like PL is nowhere near the same page as you, i've just saw on tv we've accepted Southamptons bid for Fraser Forster tonight with 10m being quoted. Well it could be 100m for all I care because we didn't see the Hooper, Wanyama, Wilson or CL money being invested.

I really hope i'm wrong but I fear the worst with this current regime and before I get shot down with the glory hunter, or we are always Celtic drivel i've seen the bad times, Carl Muggletons, Stuart Slaters, Tony Cascarinos etc etc.

I'm sure deep down the vast majority feel the same, we deserve better, we have done for the past couple of years but I fear that just like years gone bye no one's listening and it'll be handshakes all round for Peters fantastic bank balance.

Spot on Gary, lawell and his merry men are ripping the p*** out of us more and more every season. Also I've got a feeling that Ronny's managerial style is not to everyones liking probably more so our British players and he's losing the dressing room rapidly. I see a similarity to when le guen went to the now defunct Rangers, he was into making sure the teams diets etc were correct and into longer training sessions but our homegrown players aren't dedicated enough and willing to put extra work into their game to improve. We all know what happens when a manager loses the dressing room, the dressing room wins and gets the manager the sack.

Agree0 Disagree0

08 Aug 2014 21:44:18
So it seems Forster is gone for 10m .He has been after a move for a while, no real sense of conviction by the board to convince him to stay .
By the time Newcastle get their cut and the original out lay it wasn't a great bit of business for an English international when you see what sort of stupid money lesser players are moving for down south .A position Celtic will find very hard to fill .

Believable0 Unbelievable0

TTTS 10 mill is a record for a BRITISH goalie, would like to see Fasan get a chance atvb

Agree0 Disagree0

08 Aug 2014 23:28:33
cant help but think if it was from say Southampton to Man city it would have blew record out of the water

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed007's Note - Considering Liverpool paid circa £10 million for Simon Mignolet, who is atrocious, Southampton have got a bargain.}

I hope we at least demand a sell on clause, I think in a few years he will end up at one of the big clubs.

Agree0 Disagree0

Ed a think Barrybhoy makes a good point here in actual fact a was going to do this on its own thread are you aware of any players that we have ANY sell on clauses that we have inserted on our sales a know there was one for Paul McGowan while at St Mirren but a see Wanyama is interesting Spurs and just wondered (wishful thinking)

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed007's Note - I don't know of any although I'd be surprised if there wasn't one included in the Tony Watt sale.}

08 Aug 2014 21:40:30
Celtic have accepted a bid of 10 million for Forster. Do you think someone else will be brought in head or will it be a case of Gordon or Zalukas?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

I hope it is Gordon, and Fasan as his back up If Gordon is able to string a series together I would give Zallukas a free and let him get a deal

I honestly believed today could not get much better folks however in there home leg against Maribor "part of the home fans stands will not be allowed to be in use as a result of the last round where the home fans participated in racial abuse and as such (oor pals at UEFA ) ;-) have impose a partial BAN on Maribor! (ffs folks they could have at least waited to see if the result NEVER went our way) LMAO! and also apparently Charles Green is trying to get back in @ "The bile" and they say things come in three's lol atvb jb7

Think Denmark and Euro championships, they qualified by default and went on to win the whole tournament!

{Ed007's Note - Sorry mate I don't, it's proving difficult to get a whiff of anything just now.}

08 Aug 2014 18:36:05
I haven't really been able to digest this quite yet! We were embarrassed over two legs by an average team and still qualify through them playing an intelligible player by accident in garbage time! If it was our club to make this mistake every one of us would be feeling hard done by, it in no way effected the tie! Yes rules are rules but I am embarrassed to qualify in this way! Year after year we sell and never replace I don't blame RD I believe he will work wonders with what he's got but we continually get told there's money there for the right players same BS every year for our incredible scouting system not finding these correct players to spend the money on! Short changed as fans of our big club with small club mentality! RD said one new signing before the next tie some diddy no less. Maribor will probably stick is out on our arses and deservedly so think a year of our board not lining there pockets with CL money as well as selling our 2 best players which would happen either way with out proper replacements! I'm sick of it!

Believable0 Unbelievable0

You're right. and when your right, your right. We're liable to miss the real problem here. The board have no choice now: stand and be counted.

Agree0 Disagree0

Rabbis mate they won't and that's the problem! We go humbled with a squad in need of injection! RD made two big mistakes over the 2 legs never mind the little ones 1) Berget starting that first leg 2) Stokes up front by himself never has worked and never will! We need some quality I don't care what it cost 500k/4m quality is quality I could go on all day as we all probably could! I'm just so angry it's been the same patter from PL for the last 3 years I want a well ran club but what is 8m on 3 players in comparison to our profit? Sweet FA!

Agree0 Disagree0

SOS, chances like this don't come along often never mind a 2nd time! (Sion). I just hope RD realises now 4-3-3 doesn't work and lawwell gets cheque book out for a striker. If lawwell has any sense, he will spend a couple of million to safeguard potential £20m

Agree0 Disagree0

It's unbelievable, il believe it when I see it! Sick of this BS!

Agree0 Disagree0

I hope we sign a couple of players . I am not confident that players coming in now will make much difference for the two play - off games. However maybe Deila is right a signing or two could lift the spirits of the squad.

Agree0 Disagree0

08 Aug 2014 17:59:17
Lads and Lassies, we should remember to thank the Lord that our big Keeper saved that second penalty in the first leg. or we were oot withoot a doot!
Raise yer glass tae Big Fras, and let's hope the penny has dropped with The Board, The Management Team and the Players. If we want to savour the Big Time we need big investment, big ideas and big hearts.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

08 Aug 2014 16:43:01
Ed what's the deadline for signings for the playoff mate?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

registration must be completed by 24.00 CET on the day before the relevant first-leg match.}

08 Aug 2014 17:12:30
Think a DM should be our priority, someone who offers our defence protection like Wanyama

Believable0 Unbelievable0

A striker MUST be our priority. Worst bunch of strikers I have ever seen at Celtic

Agree0 Disagree0

08 Aug 2014 18:20:37
I think we need player to go forward we look hopeless it's like our midfielders don't know what to do with the ball so they just pass back to our defence most of them give the ball back to who they got it from

Agree0 Disagree0

08 Aug 2014 19:52:28
A striker is the 1st thing we need then another cb n playmaker but doubt we will see any of them will be more dross knowin lawell

Hope we spend money on players now that we have been given a 2nd chance.

We really need to get a couple of wingers in and a good big striker.

Seen someone mentioned Samaras coming back, think he would fit RD formation to a T.

I will not be happy if is see the exact same players against Maribor as they have shown as a team, that there not good enough.

08 Aug 2014 16:29:40

Oscar Pistorious has sacked his legal team and hired Celtics as he has heard the can help him lose both legs and still win. Sorry Ed, could not resist it.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

08 Aug 2014 15:37:42
Now the initial euphoria is over and the jokes are dying down I must admit i'm not comfortable accepting a gift like this outright.

If we could afford to it and as fans we could give it up for a year a statement like withdrawing from the Champions League would be the morally correct thing to do. But i'm realistic, and I want champions league football, so this clearly won't happen.

What I would like to see though is a gesture such as donating all gate receipts from the Maribor game to charity - this could be as much as £1.5m-£2m and is money we were not expecting.

To offer such a sum to charity (or charities) would be an exemplary gesture from the club and might go some way towards restoring some pride. For me the charity should be local - possibly Glasgow's foodbanks but obviously Unicef or something carries more weight internationally.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed007's Note - UEFA would hammer us if we refused to play. I take it you will be donating money to a charity rather than buy a ticket for the match?}

08 Aug 2014 17:26:08
What pride do celtic have to restore, apart from on the park. I wish folk would just realise that Legia broke the rules and were correctly punished. I'm actually embarrassed for the folk who are embarrassed! Lol!

Agree0 Disagree0

I'm not embarrassed a Polish team failed to comply with the rules in the holy grail of football competitions. Would we be embarrassed if it wasn't Celtic Legia were playing? We wouldn't bat an eyelid other than to think what a stupid schoolboy error to make.

We were always playing another tie anyway and could very well still be playing Europa League football after the Maribor game.

I know you have the right sentiments though Gerry :-)

Agree0 Disagree0

08 Aug 2014 16:17:45
Bad day when you have no faith in Celtic to beat a team like Maribor over 2 legs. Hopefully this lifeline we have been given will open the boards eyes and force them to have a rethink over how to take this team forward. RD talks a good game and given his philosophy I have faith in him to build a good team over time and hopefully develop a few youngsters along the way but he desperately needs experienced players for the here and now. If Hooper is going for 3M get him back and give him the contract he wanted before leaving. Same with Samaras. These 2 will go a long way in helping us qualify and have proven they can perform on the European stage.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

08 Aug 2014 14:11:53
after seeing legia games I was impressed by the boy zyro lm/cm and especially kucharczk rm/w, the guys workrate and general skill was impressive, also the polish striker lucas teodorczyk big strong skilful striker could get all three and money to spare if we sold commons to wba

08 Aug 2014 13:45:28
really hope rd and jc learnt something from these two legs away from home wee really need to be solid at the back and very tight in the midfield not giveing the ball away in our own final third because where on the backfoot straight away and in europe u just can't do that because youll get punished so moral of the story hopefully get a few players in before maribor go out their for the first leg keep the back door bolted is a must! get them back to paradise and have a go infront of a packed celtic park and hopefully doo ehnough to go through and if celtic want to make a few bob buy ambrose a plane ticket and charge 5 pound a ticket to see his plane take off sure make a new few bob from that

I think what others will learn from NL, JC and Rd, is that we have a Reive /Clough type situ development unfolding

Agree0 Disagree0

Are u comparing RD to Brian Clough?

Agree0 Disagree0

08 Aug 2014 20:20:34
Indeed not nor lennon to reive just I think maybe a similar situ.Dont think that team went out to win. Already thinking JC is causing grief. how else can you explain that performance?

08 Aug 2014 13:44:29
Sometimes you just have to look on the bright side of life, this is Legia's admin error to sort out.

I do feel a bit for them (it would be hard not to) but to the Polish fans who thought they were some kind of smart ass in our section HAHA!

Believable0 Unbelievable0

08 Aug 2014 12:55:05
Does anybody know the exact wording if the rule used to kick Legia out? I'm interested to see whether the punishment is black and white or subjective depending on the individual case. Because if it's the latter then I think it's disgraceful that they were kicked out for 3 minutes when we were already 6-1 down. And if we had done the same do you think our punishment would have been as severe? I'm not so sure. We'll take it no matter how we get through but it's a bit embarassing tbh we were outclassed by a team we should be beating and we mustn't forget that and the fans must still demand investment! Also, don't often post rumours etc but heard off a guy in work that £10m has been agreed for big Fraz?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed007's Note - UEFA Reg.18.05: The club bears the legal consequences for fielding a player who is not named on list A or B, or who is otherwise not eligible to play.}

Have they explained the differences between this decision and the almost identical Debrecen case? I really think this is totally unjust unless UEFA can explain why this case is different. I'm embarrassed to be quite honest.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed007's Note - The Debrecen player wasn't suspended so there are no similarities between the two. It's two separate issues, Kev.}

We discussed/deciphered this last night Kevbhoy, personally a think they took decision early to let draws happen.

Furthermore, it was not Celtic who "flagged it up" / appealed it, it was there own man (uefa) case closed

Agree0 Disagree0

Happy with that lads. It just wouldn't have sat right with me if it looked like we had been given special treatment because we are the bigger club.

Agree0 Disagree0

Legia were not kicked out . Because they fielded a suspended player they forfeited the game . The rule is that meant they lost the 2nd leg 3-0 . That left the two ties 4 all in aggregate . Celtic go through on away goals .

Agree0 Disagree0

08 Aug 2014 12:13:27
Ed it was on ssn there that legia are appealing this is your opinion will the have a chance and also how would that work if successful would they have to make the draw again due to seeding system?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed007's Note - I can't see any appeal any successful, have you ever made a mistake on your golf scorecard? UEFA are far worse than any snooty golf club chairman for administration and rules.}

I am delighted that UEFA have these rules and implement them fairly and squarely . Isn't it wonderful how things can work out . We were cheated out of domestic titles by rules not applying or been rewritten to suit the football Authorites and a club from Govan.

Ladbrokes are paying out on Celtic to qualify, I have been paid out @ 4/1. Go and collect. If you don't have you're ticket they will find it for you if you can give them a time frame on when the bet was placed, and the amount of the total stake.
They are paying out to QUALIFY only. hail hail.

This is taking a while to sink in. Anyone else think this ain't right? Does it come down to the fact that we have better lawyers than Legia? Sad day when our lawyers are better than our centre forwards. Says a lot about the executive branch and the ethos at parkhead if so.

I also expect a prolonged dispute like a few years back.

weird.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

It was uefa who started the investigation, nothing to do with celtic or their lawyers

Agree0 Disagree0

This has nothing to do with lawyers Uefa detected the problem.the legia official who dealt with registering players should be sacked immediately.the rules are there for all to see. They were broken so accept the consequences nothing whatsoever ever to do with celtic.killy.

First post on here after reading for some time, have been on Uefa website, we will be seeded for the playoff draw and will play one of

Ludogrets Razgrad
NK Maribor
Slovan Bratislava
Malmo
Aalborg

personally I don't think any of these teams will be of better quality than Legia, hopefully with a little bit more fight and a packed out Celtic park we can take this second chance

Speak to Uefa
And get out the Rosary Beads! :-)

Delighted! Before a ball was kicked only question always IS would you Take going through REGARDLESS of PERFORMANCE?

Just wanted to say a couple of things about Delia and the current Celtic squad.
Firstly I am in two minds about Delia, I posted a few days ago that I thought he was a "yes" man but his comments about too many games and travelling too much before qualifiers got my approval, if he can stand up to lawwell next pre season (if he is still here) over this it will make a huge difference.
I still think he lacks both passion and the knowledge of what it means to us celtic fans to play in CL every season.
Now to the players, playing CL qualifiers so early is a big disadvantage most Celtic fans accept that, but what we cannot accept is the insipid displays we have witnessed so far, are the players behind Delia and collins it does not look like it.
Celtic fans want the passion from players that lennon brought back, the team must take a good hard look at themselves and start playing for the famous Celtic jersey.
Finally, I think it is time for all true Celtic fans to protest about lawwell and his lack of transfer action, Celtic must from now on make any lawwell bonus tied in with success on the park and not in the bank balance. he is happy to collect huge bonuses personally without helping Celtic football club on the park.

I am with you Tim but think we have to give the board a chance to redeem themselves see if they come up with new QUALITY players before this deadline They have a second chance to do what is rite let's see if they use it

Wow, back in the Champions League. I guess the rule is straightforward and clear. Player was still officially suspended. Expensive four minutes I would say. I'm sure they will appeal but the wording is quite clear.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Second bite at the cherry. Make the most of it Celtic. Ir's a winnable tie. let's just get the players in to make sure of it. No mucking about now. Not making the CL this season could have wrecked our chances for years to come. Don't let it happen again.

P.S. Thanks big man.

What I don't understand is if legia never fielded player, would the game be forfeited?

Hoops go through on away goals.

Board now needs to invest in the team or same thing is going to happen. We need a goal scoring striker a cb and 2 wingers at least to have any chance.

Feel sorry for Legia as we were destroyed and this only papers over the cracks for time being

Although I am embarrassed to see us get back in, we've got to take it. Now PL & DD, you have a second chance to save this season, get the cheque book out and get the team strengthened!!

Back in the champions league, shameful, but rules are rules, ssn confirmed, don't know what way I feel, we need to buy! What's everyone's else opinion!

When's the deadline for players signing? To be eligible in play off?

Getting a bit fed up hearing how Celtic should be embarrassed and are a laughing stock. I'd be more embarrassed if my team had played someone who was ineligible and got thrown out for downright stupidity. Yes, Celtic were terrible and don't deserve to go through, but if they play well and get into the CL proper I won't be complaining!

I see on the Guardian this morning that, in the event of forfeiture, Celtic would still only go through by AWAY GOALS rule! Talk about edging it by a bas hair! This is quickly establishing us as the joke of European Football! Since the money is really what's at stake here we'll take it of course, but this is shameful.

Here is the Uefa rules, sad I know. But reading this I fear it seems pretty cut and dried It basically states fielding a suspended player IS a match forfeit and fielding an illegible player MAY lead to a match forfeit. I truly think it would be an injustice if Legia were kicked out but if the boy wasn't registered for St Pats looks like there's no alternative. The Drebrecan case was not president it was simply within the laws of the game.

Uefa Disciplinary Regulation 21

1
.
If a match cannot take place or cannot be played in full, the member association or club responsible forfeits the match

2

A match is declared forfeit if a player who has been suspended following a disciplinary decision participates in the match.

3

A match may be declared forfeit if a player who is ineligible under the regulations of the competition concerned participates in the match, as long as the opposing team files a protest.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Apparently the meeting is at 9am, so hopefully find out at lunch time what's going to happen.

If it is decided its a match forfeit, at least that guarantees europa group stages at minimum.

Im a bit confused about the ineligable player situation. If he was suspended for 3 games an missed 3 games what's the problem? I read that he must be included in the squad before it counted as missing a game but why would you include a suspended player in a squad for a game?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Apparently players need to be in the squad for a game if they want to serve their suspension.
The player in question wasn't in the squad for their 1st qualifiers game and so therefore wouldn't have been serving his suspension, and would therefore be illegible to play against us.

Apologies for the poor wording at some parts.

Agree0 Disagree0

Being in the squad doesn't mean in the match day squad, it means being a registered member of their CL squad list of 25 for that tie. They obviously thought they didn't need to register him for the st pats tie and he was only brought into the list of 25 for our tie. It's a shame for them as they were far and away the better team. But rules are rules and its a shocking mistake to make. The player who missed 2 pens in the first leg will be choking on his cornflakes this morning!

Agree0 Disagree0

I don't think its actually included in the playing squad but in the registered list of players submitted for the games. He was not registered so technically did not serve the requisite suspension. I also thought that Celtic had to submit a protest. did they? If not, and its a EUFA inspired investigation, then it may be deemed, weighing up the scorelines, actual time on the park etc., that a fine will be sufficient punishment (which we could not really grumble about). I am sure ED will clarify my thoughts.

Agree0 Disagree0

Clears it up then cheers! Hopefully a few bodies are brought in before the next game then
