Most of the posts have covered tonight's game, Good/Bad/indifferent?!
I thought we should have bought players to negotiate this round which could possibly have seen us through the play off aswell.
The nxt tie is a 15mil play off, surely without all the ifs and buts, the board need to go all in to give Lennon the backing he needs? We can't punch above our weight every time?!
SPFL is a gimme (apperently) and CL should be progressive? Prove it. ,,,

Mo Bangura isn't liable for the fiasco that surrounded the Elfsborg tie. The guy was caught up in something he had no control over and has been getting a hard time and a raw deal even though he is only being professional in carrying out his work duties for his present employer. lay off the guy as the only person or people that should get a hard time and maybe even sacked for this are the powers that be who brokered the move in the first place without any insurance clause to make him ineligible should the 2 clubs ever cross paths during his loan agreement.

Agree0 Disagree0

I did not like his diving around and acting on the field as he had some bust ups with our players. He did good but with the way he was diving I don't want him back, that is not professional specially if it's against the club that owns the player

Agree0 Disagree0

I do know this if he's ever back at cp brown will be giveing him a sly boot in the cherries

Agree0 Disagree0

07 Aug 2013 22:49:50
I know we don't want him back but for a little game between us fans, mo bangura or Kevin Doyle

My vote is for Mo!

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Mo was a real danger tonight and on that performance I would take him back
Gordybhoy44

Agree0 Disagree0

I don't rate Mo at all but in all honesty he was better than what we had u front last night

Gary

Agree0 Disagree0

Mo wasnt a real danger (had 1 clear header), a decent defender could have dealt with him, ambrose has no positional sense and for a big guy was to easily out muscled.

Anybody out there have any indication or idea why the guy balde we signed has not yet played 1 single minute of a competitive game so far, not exactly blessed with quality strikers at the moment just wondering why he hasn't had a chance? Also thought bangura had a good game tonight credit where it's due, shoot me down if you like but defo see some potential there! MickL

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Balde? Who knows! We didn't start with an out & out striker anyway so don't think he was ever in the managers plan to start. Pretty poor by my reckoning because every game that passes then the guys confidence will wane. As for bangura he was always going to be in about it, to prove a point. In fact I bet my mate a fiver he would score and celtic to win 2-1

Briggs

Agree0 Disagree0

Cos Lennon said "he's raw" and then when actually seen his first touch was like a lamppost he discovered he was "raw" mince!
The boy might come good, he's still young.

Bigbadjohn

Mickl Will ask one question, did he score?.Maybe that's why he is out on loan.( Bangura)

Well not the best performance tonight but it is a step closer to the group stages and the equivalent to the rangers alleged share value.

But now is the time for PL to loosen the purse strings. As much as I respect the man for what he has done for Celtic he needs to forget about the shareholders for at least 1 season and their dividends.

£40+ million from the CL along with the sale of 3 players if Wilson does go.

I am not saying go mental crazy but give NL another £8 million to spend. It is obvious for all to see we need an out and out goal scorer and I would like to see a couple of CD's bought also. That for me would give us a stronger team.

As they say speculate to accumulate but just don't over speculate.

As I said another £8 million for 3 players won't break the bank and will let us fans see that Celtic mean business.

Ian

Believable0 Unbelievable0

We've already brought in 2 cd's. it's a midfielder and a striker we need. Wouldn't worry about game tonight as the park was mince both teams struggled hence why it was long balls all the time.

Agree0 Disagree0

Overloaded in midfield and very little confidence in the defences hence the reason I said 2 Cd's.

Ian

Van Dijk will be a great player for us. A partner for his is needed though

We're through and that's all that matters! Lustig was outstanding tonight, defensively he is brilliant. Any idea Ed who is likely to replace Wilson? Lowry? Sad to see him go but good luck to him for the future

Agree with that I wasnt impressed with lustig when he first came in but now think he's been a great signing.

If we are being honest Bhoys, it was an awful performance. We literally couldn't string two passes together. We need to get a good few players in who can improve us, because if we go into the qualifying round with that team it will be another case of Bratislava. Happy to qualify, but unhappy about terrible performance.

Fergiebhoy

Believable0 Unbelievable0

07 Aug 2013 21:58:40
Agree with what your saying about performance but do you think it would have been better with wanyama and hooper in the team remember helsinki game away on similar surface and did wanyama not have stinker

Agree0 Disagree0

07 Aug 2013 21:22:03
One thing really hit home tonight, we urgently need reinforcements
Going to now need another centre half now that wilson is going and we are still very short up front

Believable0 Unbelievable0

07 Aug 2013 21:21:42
OK we're through and that's the main thing; but in theory the 3rd qualifier will be tougher so we cannot afford to play so atrociously, badly again.
Why was Efin Ambrose paired with Wilson? As Mulgrew and Wilson are much stronger IMO.
Anyway so many of the outfield players seemed a yard slow although 'Elfs' were really up-for-it and put in some heavy and niggly tackles which rattled us and may leave us with a couple of injuries.
Never thought the second half would be worse than the first and maybe a better team would have 'done' us tonight, but hopefully all the team can't play so poorly again - for whatever reason?
The pitch was mentioned a lot, but NL said beforehand that would not be an excuse as we had prepared as best we could and have played matches in the CL in previous seasons.
So I'm glad we are through, but we need to replace the 2 best players we lost (Hooper, Wanyama) and Wilson who seems to be going home to Nottingham and they need to be of the quality that can walk into that team and make a big difference (for the better)

Evening all not pretty tonight by any means but job done i'm actually writing in to say about the striker coach I know a few people have mentioned it recently I know big john has a job with the welsh national team but do you think he could be tempted if offered if not what about chris sutton doesn't seem to be doing much just now and like big john celtic are in their blood just a wee thought would love to hear other fellow tims opinions and other suggestions hail hail

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Would love to see Big John or Chris back at CP. JK

Agree0 Disagree0

There is a lot of talk about a striker coach. And rightly people say that just because you were a good player in that position doesn't make you a good coach. Big Johan was a good defender. Is he our defensive coach because if he is then what the fek us he teaching them. Lustig aside effy is awful and izzy freaks everyone's out when he defends. He needs to learn to pass also.

Agree0 Disagree0

07 Aug 2013 22:36:00
Look no name no offence but who even mentioned the defence if you want to go there then answer me honestly what was the last celtic defence that you were genuinly happy with even if you go back to the days of mjallby balde big joos people still moaned the point was if you didn't agree with my suggestions then who would you put forward as a good striker coach

Agree0 Disagree0

Put the pre season aside for a min the defence might not be the best we have ever had but 4 champions league games have came and gone maybe not the the best teams in Europe we are playing but 4 clean sheets let's just give the guys a break .

Agree0 Disagree0

How meny clean sheets have we had in the qualifying rounds recently and still some people make out this is the worst defence ever could be a lot worse time for the moaners to start getting behind our bhoys instead of slating them if they don't have the best game of there carers every game
Gordybhoy44

Agree0 Disagree0

I wouldn't have a striker coach. Name one striker coach at a CL team. A football manager should have the overall capabilities to coach everyone in the team. In response to your question (no name)

Time to sign Alfred Finnbogason now we're through to the play-off round. £2.5m from the sale of Wilson, £5.5m from Hooper and around £11m for Wanyama by the time you take into account the clubs owed money for him. That's almost £20m. Lennon should have at least half of that to spend on replacements.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

07 Aug 2013 21:08:54
The best performance was that of the referee. That boy did us a couple of favours. Good job it wasn't Gollum or we'd have been out unless Mo missed the penalty.

How what favour's did he do us?

07 Aug 2013 21:06:45
Genuinely thought the best player in the team was izzy, very poor pitch though, just glad that we came through that one. could have been a sticky situation if they scored. Defos need a striker in the team though, Any updates ed?

Just watched the game Elfsborg were no better than the Dundee team that were relegated IMO. Celtic need to splash the cash and sign at least 4 "quality players" at 2 million pounds at least and in saying that maybe players who are not quite top notch from Italy or some other top European country better than the SPFL who would run amok in Scotland and who would love to win some honours in their career( of the class of Di Canio ) Hail Hail

We need some quality in not just to consolidate where we are but to improve on an annual basis and to be miles ahead of anyone in Scotland especially before the manky mob come back!

Believable0 Unbelievable0

We are miles ahead of anybody in Scotland . Why do you mention the " manky mob "? . Why will they come back? They are no more, finished, dead, and their tribute act will be the same shortly . DH

Agree0 Disagree0

We have two already sitting with an injury, Derk and Van Diyk. Who have 35mins played beteween them. We need a striker, and if we get the boy finborgson I will be happy

Vambo

Agree0 Disagree0

@ 1 The reason I mentioned the Manky Mob is because Celtic as ever seem to be resting on their laurels, instead of strengthening when in a powerful position the board don't see any threat so don't invest in the squad adequately as a result there was a chance of being beaten by Elsfborg and there is more chance of getting F$%"^ed in the next round with a team missing three of its best players from last year. What are we waiting for the Manky Mob to come back to the top flight to pose a threat or invest in the team every year so even if they do get back they will be light years behind us.

Agree0 Disagree0

07 Aug 2013 20:56:34
Poor surface . Poor performance . But the main thing is we are through and into the playoffs . More game time and hopefully some tasty signings to look forward to . Got to say Michael Lustig was best man in team by miles . DH

Believable0 Unbelievable0

07 Aug 2013 20:55:40
Mo Bangura surely can never put on a celtic jersey again and IMO our team needs about 4-5 new players they are urgently needed we have lost rogne, McCourt, lassad, miku, hooper, Wanyama, and now Wilson is off too . Ed do you have a list of possible opponents in the play off m8 . {Ed007's Note -

Celtic can face: Austria Wien, Maribor, Shakther Karagandy, Ludogorets Razgrad or winner of Legia Warsaw v Molde

Believable0 Unbelievable0

07 Aug 2013 20:52:58
Ambrose was shocking tonight. If we let Wilson go which seems to be happening we need to get one or two defenders in and one quality striker.
On the positives we're through!

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Ambrose was not shocking. I smell sevco nonsense.

Agree0 Disagree0

Ambrose WAS shocking, give it up!

Believable0 Unbelievable0

07 Aug 2013 20:51:54
I have just endured ninety minutes of torture, caused by a player we deemed not good enough, because he gave our two central defenders a nightmare. How many times did Banguarra keep control which allowed them to move up the pitch? We are through but let's not hide from the fact we were bloody awful. Not for any period of that game did we control the play.

The pitch could be used as an excuse but that glosses over the fact we never strung five passes together. They were, thankfully, a bunch of journeymen pro's.Make no mistake, a half decent team would have had us out. From back to front we never looked comfortable and were disjointed.Sammi, who might have been carrying a knock, should have scored with a free header.Joe Ledley, although it was a terrific save and a snap chance, should have scored. But that was it.

Every time we cleared it came straight back to us.The ball never stuck up front once. What pi55es me off is this.We spend close to £2m on a 6'4 beast and he is not ready to be used.I get the buying young talent thing but we now need first team ready players, we have enough projects. For me the only pass mark was Lustig. I really don't want to be painting a gloomy picture but that was poor. Still I suppose we are through and that's the big picture!. green jhedi

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Aye completely agree, if sammi was out wide we would have had an out ball of some sort, I take it forrest was supposed to be it tonight but put in a dreadful shift. we need a striker that would be able to hold up play. I didn't think we needed a replacement for big vic but tonight made it obvious we will need at least 2 quality new signings to get past the next round.

DarrenBhoy

Agree0 Disagree0

Everybody seems to go on about how bad Ambrose was but Wilson and Izzy are bombscares as well . Our manager described the back four as " magnificent " . What . I agree that Sammy looked as though he was playing with a knock, I just wonder if our captain was too because he didn't look himself tonight . I also thought the Matthews substitution was a strange one . I thought we would have brought on Kayal to shore up the midfield . We need to get competition for Izzy quickly and also release money for a couple of solid signings . DH

Agree0 Disagree0

GJ, I would also give pass marks to Izzy tonight, the next round Derk should be fit and Van Dyke should be in the team. Would be great if finborgson is signed by then but if not, on grass, we can and will be better

Vambo

Agree0 Disagree0

Banguarra is not good enough for Celtic, which tells you more about our central defenders then him. Having said that unpretty as it was, job was done with big Fraser only making one save and Celtic having the best chances. Been away for a couple of days, so just catching up on posts.
About tonight's game, is anyone else worried about our defence? Wilson looks like he is going, so his mind will be elsewhere, any 50/50 balls watch him duck out. Then there is Ambrose a bombscare in defence. Also Izzy who CANNOT defend.
I just hope Sammy, Mulgrew and Ledley all are fit to strart tonight. Also our bad luck continues with our 2 Dutch signings both out injured.

Hope Kelvin Wilson enjoys his last ever CL game tonight. Surely i'm not the only fan that thinks his HOMESICK story is utter dross. Wonder what Davies has offered him. Certainly not European football JK {Ed007's Note - It's been a well known fact for well over a year JK. His family are down there and it came to a head in the last few months. If I thought for a minute he was at it with the fans I would be shouting it from the rooftops as usual.}

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Sorry, had to reply here. I've just watched big Kelvin dig in to a meaty challenge. You don't know the guy's situation. If he's homesick, fair play to him. It ain't a nice feeling being homesick and I know as I work away from home during the week, and let me tell you, it's no fun being away from your missus and kids. On another note, Bangura looks like he's trying hard tonight. If he'd shown a bit of that for us, we wouldn't be having the loan debate.

Surely Celtic are Scotland's most successful football club and the SFA needs to categorically state that position as many governing associations do around the world?
Celtic have won the top competition European cup/ champions league (modern). No number of domestic titles can challenge that excellence. A hundred SPL titles cannot out balance it. The SFA needs to come clean on such things, its why they're there.

Ed, when does the window close and do you think we will have enough time to replace the late leavers with quality? We do have cash but did our management anticipate these possible late moves and have they a few cards up the sleeve? Also teams know we've got money so PLs skills are critical.

Ps we told bears eight months ago they'd be bust by xmas2013. Got pelter for it now they're paying attention. It's too late. Greeny's back and only hard cash will budge him and his team. I cannot believe he's now dragged McColl into a tabloid slagging match. Why is it when we show interest in a player English teams snidely follow our targets? Read Southampton and Everton chasing Finnabogan same thing happened with tonev with villa urghh but he's stayed in Scotland before so that could be a wee advantage, and if we get CL. Elfsborg 0 3 celtic come on you bhoys in green! Gandalf the green

Believable0 Unbelievable0

The club tries to keep its cards close to its chest but folks in the know come on here and leak it causing the problem. Conversely stating a current player isn't that good when he's for sale is daft also.

Agree0 Disagree0

Gandalf, this frustrates the life out of me too. We tend to be very slow in the transfer market and this allows other clubs to come in for players.
There always appears to be a "wait for a while before closing the deal" approach coming out of Celtic and if a player is worth their salt at all then other clubs can blow us out of the water in terms of wages and possibly EPL standard football.
If it is true that Everton or Southampton are REALLY interested in the lad Finnbogason then we may as well move on and look elsewhere now. We simply can't compete with those teams.
In the past PL has shouted the mantra that we won't spend more than we can afford etc. etc. but we should be in a financial position to get a decent signing or two done or dusted without going crazy. That biscuit tin mentality is still alive, it seems. Financial prudence is all very well and clever but when it means we don't take definitive action and therefore lose out on players then it becomes anything but prudent in the long term.

With the imminent departure of Kelvin Wilson, if we don't sign at least two top quality players then Celtic will have a lot to answer for. His departure, along with Hooper and Wanyama in effect means we have lost the spine of our team. The supporters deserve better.

Kelvin Wilson for me is the best Central Defender we've had in a long time. Realise that 2.5 million for someone signed on a free is good business but at what expense? Mulgrew and Van Dijk would strike me as the central pairing we'll go with when Van Dijk is fit but will we still be in Europe by that time? The Wolves guy is an unknown admittedly with a pretty crap reputation and there are several different Ambroses that can turn up in any given week! Reckon we will need to replace big Kelvin in this window. Not sure I can see that happening, let's hope for a good result tonight so that we have a season left, otherwise I can see us going with what we have. Daviebhoy77

Actually the guy from wolves was very highly rated in France but was always injured in wolves, Wilson was always injured at forest and look how good he's done, give people a chance man. Gandalf the green

Who are the Green Brigade. From all the crap that is going around you would think they are major share holders in Celtic.

Yes they bring an amazing atmosphere to the game but they also bring to much baggage.

Celtic F.C are a multi cultured club and what the Green Brigade do to the reputation to the club at times is shocking.

Fines, Flares religious songs, Palastine, Poppy appeal, broken seats, threats etc what good does that bring to the club.

I for 1 would rather they went than bring all this baggage to the club. They need to grow up and drop all this political crap and follow the team/club only.

Can we please stop going on about the gb? It's been days and days and this is becoming the gb banter site. They're less than 0.0001% of fans. All the points have been raised.
There's a huge game tonight. What do folks think the lineup will be?

That's a shame, Ian, because they speak very highly of you. pea

Religious songs?

i think not.

care to elaborate?

celtic fans DO NOT sing religious songs buddy.

Agree0 Disagree0

Thanks Pea they can think what they want of me I don't care. I just want them to cut out all the crap that is asscociated with them. Be fans not political fanatics.

@no name 3 possibly thwe wrong phrase how does pro ira or republican song fit with you is that a better term. No matter what it is they need to cut it out.

It's better that than it being The Rangers banter page. That's all you usually see on here!

Well looks like Kelvin Wilson will be off to Notts Forrest after tonights game for £2.5m.

Who would we like to see come in to replace him?

I would have like us to have went for Solvi Ottesen who we could have got on a free contract but just seen he signed for Ural of Russia.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Were we not heavily linked with a £2.5M move for Cedric Mongongu from Evian the same week we signed big Virgil Van Dyke.

Purely going of the papers today tbh but it seems that Heerenveen have no choice but to sell this young striker we've been linked with for sometime now. Going purely from his scoring record he looks a good prospect also after Saturday it's very evident we require a "Gary hooper" type striker to get those goals which we are lacking at the moment. HH

If we win tonight who could we face in final round before group stage are we seeded?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Shakhter Karagandy and Ludogorets are definitely unseeded, Maribor are likely to be unseeded, as is the winner of Legia Warsaw/Molde.

The last unseeded team depends on whether Celtic or Dinamo Zagreb go out, but if both go through, the last unseeded team is likely to be Austria Vienna who are favourites against FH.

Well said jj, if we don't qualify for cl I fear big fraser could be off aswell, as for the gb, ross cointy would havr been noisier had the gb not been there, time will yell on that one .
Ths .

Agree0 Disagree0

One team who may be unseeded that look like going through are viktoria plzen who hopefully we can avoid as they are a real good side, play the ball on the deck, nice passing game they are also a big strong side that have a great home record at the tight little stadium.

Ross county would have been nosier without GB?

pardon? they were the only folk making any noise.

Agree0 Disagree0

I'd take legia they're crap but travelling to Poland for a football game may not be safe for the bhoys polish fans are always looking for trouble lol.

Agree0 Disagree0

Orginally Plzen weren't going to be seeded but with APOEL and BATE going out Plzen will be seeded.

after reading some of the posts on these pages, I must admit to being quite saddened by the attitude of some supporters with regard to the way celtic have being going about their business lately. of course football's all about opinions, but so many people seem to have such short memories. criticised for letting players go, new signings being written off before they've even played a competitive game, the green brigade situation, lack of spending. the list goes on and on. didn't we win a double and reach the last 16 of the CL last year? didn't we beat one of the greatest teams ever to have played the beautiful game on our way there? isn't our club completely debt free? haven't season tickets prices been considerably reduced for this season? isn't there still three weeks to go before the transfer window shuts? honestly, the lack of faith in the management and board some people have, truly astounds me. you don't have to look too far across the city to see what the dangers are of running a club irresponsibly. it is a privilege to support this magnificent team and the sooner some people realise it the better. I for one have total faith in the people in charge - they are all celtic men and want nothing but the best for our club - even if it means taking decisions they know they will be vilified for. I know these pages present a forum for debate but come on chaps, let's be a little more positive about things. we are celtic supporters, faithful, through and through.

Nameless poster, R U a Board member?
Seriously; the banter and opinions on here are terrific and most of the posts have valid, thought-out content not to mention great humour.
If an opinion is thought to be off the mark - the usual suspects will usually fire-in and offer an alternative view.

There is a lot to be thankful for at Celtic but there are a few areas of concern - which you mentioned.
Since I went to my first game in the 60's, there has always been debate and differences of opinion even in the Golden Era. We all love the club and that's why we talk about it non-stop and it would be helluva boring if we all agreed or were told what to think and believe, like some clubs?!

I'm with you brother. I think some bhoys forget the circumstances this club operates in. We are doing great.

Agree0 Disagree0

It's important all fans of all clubs keep up the highest expectation of all club employees, from boardroom to players. No sitting back on laurels.
At Celtic, fans have the highest expectation.

Agree0 Disagree0

Ha ha! no i'm not a board member jungle jim, just forgot to sign in! I get your point, but as an example take kevin doyles prospective signing. yeah he's not the marquee signing everybody is looking for, but for gods sake, the guys not even a celtic player yet and the abuse he's been getting on these pages is shocking. neil lennon knows what he's doing, and if he wants doyle in his team then i'm more than willing to welcome the guy with open arms. anytime i've watched doyle he's gave 100%, holds the ball up brilliantly, scores the odd goal and never gives the defence a moments peace. let's give lenny a bit of credit, he certainly knows what he's doing.

With Wilson likely to move Celtic would have made almost the same amount of money as in cl(20/22?) now that means this year has been one of the best ever with the amount we brought in. I'm sure we will be buying a couple more players soon, with another great season

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Is sissoko, ex killiie player still a free agent? Anyone know, would we take

Ska Bhoy

Agree0 Disagree0

SkaBhoy - I posted on here last week that we should look at him. Ed confirmed he is a free agent, an while he isn't the quality we need for a starting spot, he would (I feel) be an option for cover. Would also be cheap. Am surprised he hasn't found a team yet - am sure he will soon. Jean-Pierre Laguerre

Agree0 Disagree0

Jean Pierre, yeah he always stood out for killie against us, would be a decent option, and agree cheap option,
