the problem with Celtic is surely more than the manager . Explain all our signings . Carlton Cole, he has over a year left on his contract . Scott Allan, he can't get in our squad . Ciftci sent out in loan in January . Manager clearly isn't buying players or he'd pick them . We don't have a director of football but yet someone else rather than manager is pulling the strings . It f**king stinks and completely undermines manager . What chance does he have.

Bobby . we have spent nearly 50 million since lennon took over and yet we still need a goalie a centre half a playmaker a striker two wingers . how could we spend that amount and not improved more the people who sign the players at celtic need to be sacked as they aren't doing their job properly.

I don't know the exact number of players that have come and gone in recent years but it is alarming how many haven't cut it.

Exactly mate, people getting away with murder using a decent guy with good ideas to take the blame . I'm not rd biggest fan, sometimes his decisions during games really frustrate me but the pressure he finds himself under these days is nothing short of scandalous from Celtic fc in my opinion.

Most managers make signings that don't work out, but in recent years we seem to be signing far too many inferior or injury prone players.
There has been a lot of posts about our signing/ transfer strategy and from what I've read it's more or less down to Park and Lawell - with RD's consent? Whatever the process - it's not working.
The current squad is limited at the back, with goalkeeping issues; severely over-subscribed in midfield - wasting resources and harming moral and totally neglected up front - with makeshift, ineffective cover for the only capable striker on the books.
It has got to be the most unbalanced and predictable squad assembled?

With a lot of discussion about whether this team is worse than Mowbray's or Lennon's etc further down the page, I'd like to get people's thoughts on this: Forgetting teams of the past and comparisons, is anybody on this site happy with the state of this Celtic team right now? I'm certainly not. The players don't look up for it most weeks and the football is nothing like the style we all bought into almost 2 years ago. Whether that's down to poor management or the players not pulling their weight I don't know, but something's got to give.

Been over my pragmatic support of RD several times. Obviously I'm not happy with standard of football but in terms of what's got to give I'd say there's a number of things that have to "give" before the simplistic sack the boss and hope for the best with the next one. The board have to give RD genuine backing in the summer, none of this bargain basement gamble stuff. They have to give him full control of signing policy (similar to first point) Scott Brown has to be given a rest or has to give up the band. The support have to give their all for the team instead of buying into the braying of the Daily Ranger etc.

Agree2 Disagree2

07 Apr 2016 20:20:29
I agree with you to an extent on the first 2 points but I think it's unfair to insult your fellow supporter's intelligence by saying they're buying into the DR's guff. We've been there and watched the dross all season, we've made our own minds up, they haven't been made up by the media.

I'm far from happy. What I would say is it must be the most underperforming team since Lou Macari. To have 3 players getting pass marks over a season is an embarrassment. Fans rave away about certain managers being out of our range, and about Ronny being a great Visionary. There's plenty top managers we could have got 2 years ago, we could get now. I mentioned Tuchel at the time. A year before Southampton appointed Pochettino who had no experience and had also just been sacked from Espanyol. He would have taken the Celtic job in a heartbeat. They done their homework and actually asked Mourinho for his thoughts, he mentioned Pochettino, he also recommended Karanka to Middlesbrough, he had hardly any experience either. The world is full of top young, top old coaches and managers. Plenty are progressive, with great ideas, it's a matter of sourcing them. Pochettino has coached 10 of the last 11 players who have made their England debut, I think he would have done a better job than Ronny! He couldn't speak a word of English, and 3 years later it's still not great, he must have great ideas though, and be able to put them across regardless.

Agree0 Disagree1

{Ed007's Note - Pochettino could speak English, he had actually spoke in English to the staff and players at Southampton since he arrived, but he used an interpreter in his press conferences so that he could express himself and answer complex questions without his words being wrongly reported or misunderstood.}

07 Apr 2016 20:50:38
I didn't know that Ed, apologies. My bigger point was that there are plenty managers with good ideas, but also a bit more all round experience than Ronny had. It's not just about winning a trophy. He was under no pressure at Stromgodset and had no experience as a player outside Norway either. I said recently that it's like Derek McInnes winning the league with Aberdeen then being given the Chelsea job! It's not a step up, it's another world.

07 Apr 2016 20:54:31
Delphic you keep going on about the three player's that get pass mark's who is it that gave those three player's the passing grade because if it's you then that's just your opinion as to the manager situation what you fail to grasp is that the main issue is the board do you think any of the guy's you mention if offered would have came to Celtic with the lack of budget I doubt it and don't forget we offered the position to Keane and he told lawwell to cram it.

Agree0 Disagree0

07 Apr 2016 22:12:17
Kevbhoy Correct me if I am wrong but u once took great glee I informing us that your father knew nothing as he didn't agree with you about the even handedness of the referees . No doubt your views of referees have come from the SMSM and probably Daily Record .
In my opinion those who have knocked R D and team the most think we don't have a problem with referees. I think their hatred of R D and the current team leaves them blind to the countless bad bias decision by Craig Thompson and friends.

Agree0 Disagree2

07 Apr 2016 22:53:49
No Oldbhoy, I've made up my mind about referees all by myself because I have a brain. And are you trying to blame the media and referees for the garbage I'm paying almost £600 to watch?

Agree0 Disagree0

07 Apr 2016 23:02:18
Old bhoy, that once again is just pure ridiculous . I've no doubt your good intentions but come on, hatred of rd? I don't know any fan who hates rd, lost faith definitely . Surely you can see all is not great? May not be entirely rd's fault but why you continually ignore all is not well is beyond me.

Agree0 Disagree0

07 Apr 2016 23:17:22
In a couple of years when sevCo start winning leagues again how will you look back on winning leagues with rd and less than exiting football.

Agree0 Disagree1

07 Apr 2016 23:42:01
this is easily explained, you have two sides the Ronnie worshippers who think that Ronnie is a great manager, and all the poor performances are down to the board, the referees and the fans, not supporting the team enough, and on the other side you have the realists, who think Ronnie is a terrible manager, who sit open mouthed when they hear the latest team selection, or sit watching in amacement at the team tactictics and formation on the field, or civer their ears when they hear Ronnie trying to put a gloss on another godawful performance.

Agree1 Disagree1

07 Apr 2016 23:53:31
Obviously it's my opinion. It's quite simple though - if you think other players have done well this season then tell us who! Also I know fine well we would have to pay the going rate for a better quality of manager, I've specifically said that the board are culpable. I also specifically said I'd prefer a top manager to signing more squad players, so if your going to slate me at least read the posts.

Agree0 Disagree0

08 Apr 2016 00:15:46
is nothing to do with paying the going rate, is to do with getting a manager, who can manage, i would suggest that you could take any of the premier managers at the minute and they would do a better job than Ronnie, Ronnie stuck on a system, he does'nt know how to get out the groove, he stands gobsmacked when things don't work out on the field as they are supposed to in the manual, he should think on the word 'team', make a team, try to play same eleven every week, develop relationtionships understandings, what chance have players got when they have different teammates every week.

Agree0 Disagree0

08 Apr 2016 01:11:45
problem is we will never again get a top manager whilst the current regime are in charge that's my point you and other's on here spout all these manager's names who would never come to celtic in it's current state and think if we got rid of ronny one of them will replace him and that won't happen the reason we have ronny is he had a good record with his previous team not just taking underdogs to the title but also development of player's the powers at be at celtic these days care more about balance sheet's than team sheet's.

Agree0 Disagree0

08 Apr 2016 03:04:58
It would be that black and white in your mind aindoh - you're either a Ronny worshipper who hangs out his backside so much, you even take the time to look up the guys actual name, or you're a 'realist' whose jaw (and knuckles) drag the ground every time Scott Allan doesn't get a game ahead of the Norway, Israel, or SCOTLAND captain.

Agree0 Disagree0

08 Apr 2016 08:06:49
Forget Scott A;;an, just put some creativity into the team, Ronnie prefers physicality to creativity, he would rather have a team of automatons playing the scandinaviavian way, than a team with more ball players than lung busters.

Agree2 Disagree0

08 Apr 2016 11:03:49
Only a few month ago aindoh you were banging on about RD having his favourites. Now it's too much roatation? Even though a lot if it is forced. Next month you'll be saying we need more physical players I bet.

Aindoh-

Agree0 Disagree0

08 Apr 2016 15:13:38
I'm the first to criticise Ronny when it's due, I definitely don't get the big deal about squad rotation though. It would be different if he was changing the back 4/ keeper regularly but the only part of the team he's changing is the 3 behind the strikers who are all off the cuff type players anyway. The back 4 and 2 holding midfielders are the players who have to be drilled more/ be more disciplined. We've had injuries there so I don't blame Deila for that. My problem is the players don't seem to be playing the system properly, as well as that they aren't even playing to their potential, never mind above themselves! I absolutely blame the players but a five year old knows that it all comes from the manager. Either he's not coaching them properly, and if he is why is he playing them. For me (when playing to their level) Lustig, Brown, Biton and Johansen should be the first 4 players on the team sheet. I can't think of one game this season when I'd even give 1 of them an 8 out of 10. It obvious question is why!

Agree0 Disagree0

08 Apr 2016 17:13:25
No matter who is in charge, the problems will still always be there untill we see the back of DD, PL and JP.

Agree0 Disagree0

08 Apr 2016 17:16:02
Agree there delphic with the rotation. You want your defence to be as regular as possible, but we've had a shocking time. Jozo and Sviatchenko haven't played together. Same with CM, but for me, to a lesser extent.

With regards to the 4 mentioned players. Bit harsh on Johansen and especially Bitton. Lustig is done. Brown and Johansen should have been rested more, but quality competition is sparse. All over the park really.

Aindoh I suggest your post about taking any Premier league manager and he would do a better job than R D, is poor shoite of the highest degree and illustrates that u know nothing about what is involved in managing a big club like Celtic.
We have often signed players who have done well with other SPL clubs, only for them to fail as a Celtic player.

Ballygal67 why do some poster on here only post condemning or ridiculing R D .
Why have they nothing else to post about?
If they hadn't an anti RD chip on their shoulder they would find something else to post about .
I have to say in recent weeks more posters have adopted a fairer and realistic posting.

Hi Bond and Celtic fans, being a United fan I've a certain affection for Celtic, I always as a young pup used to get the Celtic kits aswell as the United ones.
Anyway what I wanted to ask you guys is what your opinion of Ronny Diela is? A friend of mine who is a Celtic fan thinks if you've any hope to get champs league next season you'd need to replace Ronny, is that the general consensus here that you need someone else to enhance you?
Thanks guys.

07 Apr 2016 13:33:18
Well IMO mate your friend is spot on! For us to Have any sort of chance at CL qualification or even a run in the EL then the manager must be replaced as soon as this season is over. because as he's proved 3 times now, he cannot get us in the CL and his last EL campaign was nothing short of an embarrsment! And no matter what some on here feel about giving him more time, he has to go! Because u could give him the next 5 years trying to qualify and would fail every time!

07 Apr 2016 13:59:00
As you red devil must know you can employ a manager who thinks he is the greatest in the world and you can give him a massive budget to spend but success is not quaranteed . m
Lucky for us we have a manager on the road to two in a row and 5 in a row as far as club is concerned . I am happier with a manager who can keep winning our league rather than talk about what he has or could do.

Agree1 Disagree5

07 Apr 2016 13:59:49
Hi mate, I can only answer for myself and family/ friends that I go to the games with. You have to call it as you see it, and take personality out of it because we all know Ronny is the salt of the earth and very intelligent. Bottom line - if the great man Tommy Burns was still with us, and was manager you would still have to be honest if he made mistakes. As long as you are being constructive and backing it up. For me it's quite simple, I honestly don't see how this season could have been any worse, well unless we actually lose the league, and looking at how healthy we are financially, that would obviously be the biggest embarrassment in the clubs history! Ronny says all the right things, but I don't see any off it - the fast, attacking dynamic, passing football hasn't happened, none of it, and everyone I speak to agrees. We still can't pass the ball, or control a game and Deila promised that also! In fact I think he's done the impossible - Scott Brown's passing has actually got worse! Another world record must be having 3 players (Griffiths, Teirney, Rogic) getting pass parks out of a squad of around 40) at a push you could maybe include Gordon, and exclude the ones just in the door, still I think we've used 46 players and really only 2 have been very good over a whole season. I honestly can't see how that's humanly possible! It's all about timing, there are a few top managers available, I'd like someone a bit more streetwise, with more of an aura. I mentioned Hiddink about a month ago, Ed spoke about him as a DOF, - I just think we need to do something more imaginative. If you listen to some fans we'd never do anything, any top manager (even out of work) you mention are supposedly way out of league, well if you start with that thinking they will be. I'd prefer we brought in a top manager and/ or DOF and a decent striker to bringing in another 5 bloody squad players.

Agree1 Disagree2

07 Apr 2016 15:14:19
The majority of Celtic fans I know have run out of patience with RD and although we are firm favourites to win the title for the fifth time in a row and should do the double - the confidence and gut feeling among many supporters is not favourable.
This season has been very erratic in terms of form/ performances and attendances at home have reflected our inconsistency.
An early exit from Europe was disappointing, but should have given the team more time, energy and determination for domestic dominance, but we have stuttered and faltered far too often.

Although Ronnie seemed to recover from a very difficult initial period after NL left and won two trophies in his first season, there has not been the consolidation and steady progress expected with too many players performing well below the standard they set themselves and too many new arrivals have had mixed fortunes.
However the current state of Scottish football and the very limited resources in terms of transfer budget/ wages makes it very difficult to attract any manager or even player of real quality so although a lot of us feel a change is required, it may not be as easy as it sounds; although there will be no lack of interest.
Incidentally, Man Utd my first football strip as a lad, as where we lived, my father thought it was too risky to wear a Celtic top - or even wear a scarf going to the games; [No mean City ha ha] -so I have always had a soft spot for the Reds.

I don't think you can pick any experienced manager even a very successful manager& expect him to be a Good Director of Football.
Also in my opinion. A good D O F and Manager are more likely to come in a packet starting at the one time . I think if you have the D of F in place, a Manager can start working where a Director is already in place but it isn't fair and unlikely to have a manager in place and appointing a D O F.

What does anybody base hope on Beav? Hope is wanting something to happen. Me, wanting Celtic to qualify for the CL, is having hope that we will.

Agree0 Disagree0

07 Apr 2016 20:57:52
Well I would base my hope of us making the CL on what I see with the team on the pitch and how the manager gets the best out the players at his disposal! And on both counts we've not a hope in hell of making the CL under this current management team!

So to be clear Beav, you don't hope Celtic qualify for the Champion's League next season?

07 Apr 2016 22:22:41
R D is our best chance of Qualifying for the Champions League .
If we get rid of him we will either get a manager to continue the way he has gone, add just a couple of players and use our young players who are gaining more and more experience.
Or we could get a more experience manager who will rip the present squad apart and bring in players from English Championship and English League 1 and we will spend the next year or two ripping ourselves apart, blaming board, blaming everyone but never accepting Scottish Football is at a low ebb and maybe we should try to encourage and build confidence in what we have .
There are queues and queues of out of work bad managers who would jump at our club, but would any of them be any better.

RD is our best chance of qualifying for the champions league! That's what Malmo molde and Legia warsia thought to! And 2 out that 3 were spot on! Usually I don't answer this guy but dear oh dear! I'll give u one thing, your consistent in the utter nonsense you spout!

Beav the OP asked for peoples thoughts on the notion that if we want to qualify for next season's CL we'd need to replace Ronny. Incorrect. It's possible RD will get Celtic to the CL. That's the only reason I need to give you to be honest.

Agree0 Disagree0

08 Apr 2016 12:07:27
And I want to know why u think it's possible for a guy who's 3 previous attempts at CL qualification have been a disaster will have any hope or chance to get us in? There must be some reason for your confidence in RD. so what is it?

Agree0 Disagree0

08 Apr 2016 12:24:26
Are we talking about hope or our chances? Our chances are slim, and rightly so. Draw depending, with the right additions, and providing key partnerships aren't sold, I don't see why not. But where we are as a club, I really don't expect it. Just hope. I'd actually like to know what it is that has so many people demanding CL football from RD actually. He's been flogged all season since the Malmo game. A lot of the players and fans haven't quite recovered from that gutless performance. RD felt as let down as you or I though believe me. As he's been slated all season for not doing it, if he does do it, he'll deserve a statue outside getting this team in the CL. I said when the EL squad was announced, on paper, we don't look EL standard never mind CL. But, it's cup football and as Malmo overcame the odds, we can. And I'd hope to see it done with RD in charge. But as things stand, I don't demand it.

Agree0 Disagree0

08 Apr 2016 13:30:32
A statue! Haha u for real? Ok let's take the CL out the argument for a minute then. u say on paper we're not even a EL team. then tell me why molde with a fraction of our budget topped our group this season and humped us home and away? Why is that? And u say RD felt as let down with the CL exit than as you or me, which I can only talk for myself in saying is nonsense! Then why did we have an utter embarrsment of a EL campaign? If he felt that let down why didn't he get hold of the players and say let show everyone doubting us what we can do in EL! No instead of that we go winless and are on the verge of the EL all time record winless streak! There is no defending this guy! But it seems it's exuse after exuse! And I'll go back to start of your post, why are fans demanding RD get us into the CL! Because that's his job. he's came up against teams with hugely inferior budget 3 times tryin to get there, and failed 3 times! Now if we were sitting here and we had been put out by the 3rd or 4th place team in Spain England ect then I would understand, but we have not! And if he remains in charge the same thing will happen again, and I'd put my mortgage on it!
