Use our rumours form to send us celtic transfer rumours.

Reading posts below about "Celtic fan" Lawwell (first thing you notice is that these stupid international breaks force us to find other topics to focus on)
So here is mine, first of all Lawwell and Congerton made a pigs ear of our transfer dealings, boo both of them.
But, and this will surprise most of you, we may have come out of transfer window STRONGER.
Before you all tell me to put the strong cider down, here are my thoughts.
Firstly, it has weakened Pedro both with Mr Desmond and us the supporters, and at the same time, enhanced Brendan's future transfer targets, as an inquest will most certainly be held, and Congerton and Lawwell told to get their finger out. As others have already stated, Lawwell is a brilliant administrator and negotiator on things he is good at, like sponsorship deals or getting best transfer fee for players leaving, but he is useless at the football side of things which is Brendan's responsibility.
Secondly, I know it took an inordinate amount of time, but bringing in Benkovic and Mulumbu, although cheap options, both strengthen our defence and midfield and more crucially, buys us TIME to bring in permanent replacements. Also with Dembele leaving, it gives young Christie a chance to lay down a marker as well. If, a big if, I know, we can keep Edouard and Griffiths fit all season, our attacking options are decent, if we also add in Sinclair to push on again.
Also with luck, we can get Arzani and young Morgan, allied to Mikey Johnston all vying for places and challenging Forrest we should be in a good place until Christmas and first window opens again.

Just on that point would anyone really like to see young Christie get a run in the side. I understand that there is severe competition in his position but even on that what is his position. I see him as a number 10 playing just behind the strikers.

A think a bit of perseverance with young Christie and there's a player there.

Thought Christie might have been given a shot at the Armstrong role.

Good post. Also although we needed defenders for 2 years people still hit out with the pathetic excuse that we didn't have time to find the right targets.

Well at this point next year we know Benkovic will leave, Boyata will probably leave too. Meaning we will need 2 CBs

We have a full season to identify several suitable targets and act on it early.

No excuses, yet if we fail at this again I'm sure the usual Lawwell fanboys will be out with an excuse.

Timalloy regarding scouting, thing that annoys me is innovative thinking regarding smaller budget. Instead of hotel vei think adopting same structure as Ajax and teams they are associated with will only do us good.

I think Christie is a fair player still needs some work to do and to cut out the diving we don't need to copy Servco in that respect.

I was thinking the same Tim, the power brokers have said that there will be an inquest regarding this transfer window.
I full expect that Rogers will have a big say and will bring in his no:1 targets in Jan without all the issues we had in this window.
The great this is that the mob across the city have brought in about 15 players now and we are still miles in from of them, In Jan when we spend the money and bring in 3 or 4 quality players they will be so far behind you will need the Hubble telescope to see them.

Timalley, your reasoning could be sound enough . The inquest into our transfer dealings must contain meaningful discussion as to how we took in players like Compper Mosunda Benyu and others who are just not good enough and how we can avoid making these mistakes again . I think rightly or wrongly D D has great respect for the work done by and an achievements of P L . To me we will have got a great set-up when neither PL or D D have ideas of footballers and who we should sign . I think when things are slow ( and I won't deny P L may have a hand on the speed ) on transfers coming in, I think D D and P L have a discussion and come up with a couple of names . I wouldn't be at all surprised if D D hadn't opted for Shane Long when
MD left us .
I repeat, I don't think B R will win D D over P L . He will have to learn to work them to his advantage . He won't beat them by fighting with them.

Is the delay not down to us being a PLC?
Again with budgets for players and building from a position of strength is it not a Chairman's and the boards legal responsibility to maximise share dividends and prices in a PLC?
That is what plagues British companies regards long term investment as it basically brings everything down to a year to year cycle?

I agree Chris, I don’t think Lawell is a guy you want to get into a fight with. However, I don’t think there is a problem anyway. The press managed to get a couple of quotes out of BR that they could use to create a story but a couple of days later BR shot that one down by categorically stating that there wasn’t one. I thing BR has already proven that he’s a very astute man manager and the best managers are skilled at managing both their bosses and those who report to them. I’d like to think that he’ll employ those skills to negotiate with them to get what he wants.

Interesting post, and replies, to OMChris's defence of Lawwell. To be honest i am kinda in the middle on this.

On one hand you have the corporate Lawwell, what is not in question from a business stance is the guy is top notch. The Lawell who deals with UEFA and the strong financial position we operate from. That Lawell. The problem is the expectation of us.

We know he is a Celtic man, and by all accounts has always been vocal in this wherever he worked. So the talk of one of us is true. But he is one of us who is party to information that cannot be released into the public domain. That is a huge responsibility given the size and turnover we have. It may also be the reason why we seem to have had a poor window.

Not one of us was party to any information regarding transfers, either from the players side or the club involved. We do not know if someone moved the goalposts, and we have just seen an agent try just that, so why jump all over Lawwell?

Believe me i am not an apologist for Lawwell, i have often felt he IS a bit conservative cash wise, but not being privvy to the clubs plans that's an opinion based on guesswork. One more thing. Some fans have been critical of the new lights, which will be a tax right off so technically won't cost much, and even more so of the hotel proposal. This whole Celtic Village will stand us in good stead for years to come.

Trust me on this.
The state aid nutter and his like will be apoplectic in around two to three years with what's going on.
