Versus Dundee - Tough cup tie coming up folks, or do you feel otherwise?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Tougher than last. Week's against Newco but similar result .

Agree0 Disagree0

Chris I reckon we could throw together a team from this forum that would give celtic a harder game than that excuse for a team we played and Hampden last week. Are you any good mate. I'm guessing you'd be more use upfront than kenny Miller.

Agree0 Disagree0

Garybhoy, I am a wee bit past by best now . Getting old age pension this week . I agree Newco are poor, very poor but no matter how bad they are, I still think the very professional performance by Celtic made them look even worse .

Agree0 Disagree0

A bit past your best. Nearly a pensioner. That describes half there team. Ha ha. Agree though we are really coming together now playin some nice stuff. and I remember you shouting about griffiths getting a reg start so hats off to you on that one mate.

So many others could have made the cut I always liked big vega and can also remember big Stan Varga hitting a drive from about forty yards out and the crossbar being hit, the goals were still shaking about half an hour later.

Just thought I'd make a comment on the financial report released today. For those that haven't seen in its on the club website. Another positive financial year, despite the obvious drop in revenue due to no CL. I think Lawwell deserves every bit of credit he receives for the way he's run the club from a business point of view. We might get annoyed at him in the transfer market but as long as he stays as chief executive we'll never have worries on the financial side of the club.

Believable2 Unbelievable5

It also stated that the period Jan-June will be challenging due to fewer league games. We can only hope that the stay aways get back to supporting the team now. the board have backed Ronny let's make sure we back the team now.

Agree2 Disagree1

Its also stated that "the overwhelming priorities are the league and CL" no mention of the cups. This has always been my thinking last few years. I know many disagree but its where the money is and we can't fall behind because we may miss a few cups.

Agree0 Disagree0

Ray whilst I agree with your prioritys of league then cl, I think this discussion of cups or Europe is flawed. Of the recent cup defeats at home to Aberdeen and Morton and the Hamden defeats to Ross c Rangers hearts St mirren and Killy only Morton has happened whilst still in Europe unless I'm wrong. So whilst I agree cl before league cup I still think we shouldve won more than we have in recent years.

Agree1 Disagree0

Gary of course winning cups is great. but its the greater good I talking about. Where would we be without the 40m or so in last 2 yrs without it. It doesn't bear thinking about.Can you imagine our squad without that revenue?

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed007's Note - (puke)

Domestic cups are more important for the fans, than for the club,
Celtic will pay more in bonuses to squad for winning SPL and progressing in Europe than for winning the Cup and League Cup.

Agree0 Disagree0

Ray I was agreeing with you mate, we need the league first then Cl. All I am saying is I don't think we should have to make such a choice as Europe hasn't been to blame for the lack of recent cup success. i'm a Lennon fan but there's no disputing we have lost a lot of very winnable games in cup competitions in recent years. Most of which have taken place long after any European distraction.

Im sure we have a wealth of years spread across everyone on this site so, let's wake up the grey matter and get your thinking caps on.

Put together your Celtic team. ( plus 2 subs )
Please refrain from just saying "Lisbon Lyons ". to obvious.

Thanks
HH

{Ed007's Note - Have a mess around with our Teams/Formations app here.

Nice one for a fri night. Only prob is I was picking Lubo and leaving out paulo. Picking Virgil and dropping Johan was just to hard. So I found this a lot easier. Kharine tebilly Virgo du Wei scheidt lassad Fernandez Juninho ljunberg miku bangura. Beat that team? No chance ha ha

Agree0 Disagree0

Forster
McGrain
Clark
McNeill
Gemmell
Murdoch
McStay
Hay

Hard one as I have just thought of some of the great players I left out!

{Ed007's Note - ..........................Boruc................

.........................................Brown.......McStay........

......................Nakamura..................................Moravcik....

................................................Larsson.........

...............................................Nicholas...........

Nice one ED. Thought of Boyd but Gemmell got in for me for his attacking ability. Elliot? great shout think I was a bit blinded by the Lions there. Sadly the difference in our ages has come into play, LOL . Great pick though.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed007's Note - I've went back and changed Balde for Stubbs, by far one of the best ball-playing CBs we've had in the modern era and I forgot all about him. I never pick any the Lions in teams, I can't remember any them or players like Dalglish from his time at Celtic.}

Based mine on players in my lifetime I've seen:

Boruc

McKinley
Agathe
Balde
Mjalby

Moravcik
Thompson
Brown
Wanyama

Larsson
Van Hooijdonk

Agree0 Disagree0

Boruc

Lustig
Mjalby
Balde
Agathe

Nakamura
Brown
Lennon
Moravcik

Larsson
Sutton

Manager: Gordon Strachan

My best team from the players (& managers) I can remember.

Agree0 Disagree0

Ed that's why I never even started. I'd have been changing all night ha ha. Would've totally forgot bout naka and would've been wanting to change to include him. But one of the first names on my team would've been Stan I thiink best midfielder I've seen in the hoops

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed007's Note - It was a toss-up between Petrov or Brown for me and Brown just edged it simply because he's still here and is finally getting the recognition he deserves.}

@ED007; I seen my first game in 1966 v Aberdeen so the Lions are a bit sketchy for me but the ones I put in I remember clearly. Murdoch, the best passer of a ball I have ever seen. McNeill, who had weaknesses but with Clark was a formidable pairing. Davie Hay because I saw him cementing greig at Celtic Park! Hardest player I ever saw in a Celtic shirt.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed007's Note - Auld git!}

Boruc

I would agree with eds selection apart from two changes, McKinley for Boyd, cadete for Nicholas

Agree0 Disagree0

@ED007; Sadly I have to agree as my kids are now calling me Victorian Dad!

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed007's Note - I remember him from Viz.}

@ED: Good spot mate. remember Bodley Basin. the strict freemason? from the days when it was really funny. That and Not the View were essential reading for away games, loved NTV and It came from Ibrox jokes. brilliant.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed007's Note - I was trying to think of his name lol We're showing both our ages here.}

Simpson, McGrain, Gemmell, Murdoch, McNeil, Connolly,
Johnstone, Dalgliesh, Larsson, Moravcik,
Tully.SubsBrown, Lennon
Tambhoy

Agree0 Disagree0

Aye, the Viz mag used to be hilarious. My fav after Sid, fat slags and biffa (who still appear) was full mental jacket who had watched too many Vietnam war movies and thought he was in nam and everyone was a Vietnam gook. Other mentionable were big Vern. Never could get into billy the fish though. I also loved to get the uni mag every year ygorra. great jokes

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed007's Note - Was Everard Headbutt - Hard As F**k, in Viz or was it Smut? He wore a rip-off of the 'Feed the World' T-shirt saying 'F**k the World' that my mam would never let me use her credit card to buy one. Terry F**kwit, Roger Mellie the man on the telly, and Bustar Gonad and his unfeasibly large testicles are all classics and were funny as hell.
I vaguely remember Channel 4 making some cartoons with Viz characters, some of them were wild, a black bag that solved mysteries on the moors (??) and Billy the Fish was like a bad trip, Roy of the Rovers on acid!}

Still got a video kicking about someplace with Roger mellie and the fat slags cartoons on it 😊

Hi Ed, What is the situation with Rogic? I heard he was back training is he anywhere near a start or does he have a long road to regaining fitness?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed007's Note - He's been back in training for a while now so he must be near to some level of fitness, I'll try and find out what the latest is.}

He looked like he had such potential! He struggled to get in the team before what's the chances now?

Agree0 Disagree0

I thought he was too slow on the ball and not suited to the SPL

Agree0 Disagree0

Agree with Chris02. The ability is there but Ronny seems to favour mobile pacey players, who knows he might find a place for him.
