Interesting comment Whyte made in his interview in Scotland on Sunday. He stated that he lodged £33m of his OWN personal wealth in a bank account as proof of funds prior to purchasing Rangers. I'm quite sure the tax man will have picked up on this and will invesigate this claim. Wonder if his personal tax returns will coroborate this personal wealth.

Hey all, am I missing the whole 2nd team thing? I love celtic but dont get supporting someone else? What about when they play each other? Do you not care about the result? Maybe as I grey up in canada its different as in the celtic supporters club the only talk was of us? I have lived here for 12 years now. Even when I lived in cork, eire and in belfast two teams was the norm
Bankier bhoy {Ed007's Note - I get my liking of Man Utd from my father, but CFC are and always will be always #1 to me.}

Believable0 Unbelievable0

For me, it's not so much 'supporting' another team, more having a soft spot, or appreciating the type of football played by another team.

eg, i support Celtic, but i have a bit of a soft spot for Liverpool cos of Dalglish and Keegan, and Barcelona, simply for the football they play, and also the similarities in roots these 3 clubs have. however, when we played them, it was Celtic all the way

taco

Agree0 Disagree0

I am Celtic 100% and do not have a 2nd team as such, but obviously watch a lot of other football on TV and if one of them has ex-Celts manager or players then I will favour them on the day.
If both have 'Tic connections - All the better. Contrararily, if there are any ex-Govanites then it goes without saying...

Jungle Jim

Agree1 Disagree0

For me it just looks like gloy hunting, How many '2nd teams' are raith, colchester etc etc etc none that i can think of {Ed007's Note - I do go and watch Accies regularly if that counts. I am not a glory hunter, my father's family stayed in Ashton Under Lyne for years in his youth when they came over from Cork, I can easily remember Utd not winning anything for years and have been down at OT numerous times, at 37 I think I am too long in the tooth to be classed as a glory hunter mate. What about CFC supporters all over the world (which makes us one of the biggest clubs in the world) but have never been to CP, are they glory hunters as well?}

Agree0 Disagree0

As you can see from my previous post i say "it looks like" gloy hunting. Im not saying everyone is but could easily imagine there are a large amount who are as it helps them if/when thier 'real club' hits lean times. In regard to the CFC support all over the world (which you mention) whos to sat they even have a second team? Theres nothing wrong with being an armchair fan, not everyone can get or afford to go to the games. {Ed007's Note - I have no problem with so called armchair fans, especially in the current financial climate, and you will notice I don't entertain any posts saying 'You probably don't even go to games.' Go to Ireland and you will see as many Utd or LFC strips as you will CFC, come derby day though it will be CFC tops all the way. With younger people it is because of the TV saturation of the game. It is all part of club's global marketing. For glory hunters look at the Blackburn supporters that bought their tops etc when they were challenging, when was the last time you saw someone wearing one of them?}

Agree0 Disagree0

I always had a soft spot for man utd cos my dad done his army time n watched them and said duncan edwards would have been the greatest player EVER if not for munich.all the testimonials helped fuel it as well.but i must say i was sickened by their supporters attitude towards us in the champs league(home and away). spoiled by the success no doubt. sorry ed!..green jhedi

Agree1 Disagree0

I have to disagree with the glory hunting part mate. i think, as a celtic supporter, we like to watch good football, played the way it should be played, so it's no coincidence that these '2nd teams' are good teams.

i have to say as well, i watch my local team, Ayr Utd when the Hoops are away and i don't have the time to travel.....and they are pure craig whyte lol!!

so...another sight seeing trip in the scottish eh? how many years since our last home game....3, 4??

not to worry, it'll be a cracking game, and we'll get to show the bears how it should be done, it's a pity the two best footballing teams left in the comp are meeting at this stage, still....Celtic v Hearts final is just as good:)

well done Lenny as well for banning the team from talking to the press. i'm hearing an apology is expected from the DR about twisting his words re: saying rangers deserve all they get, etc.... it's time these charlatans were brought to task for trying to fan the flames on so many occasions, and depicting Lennon as some sort of 'snarling', 'raging', 'fuming', 'seething' angry man who can't control his temper, when the biggest sh1t stirrers are themselves

ED007 not a Celtic post, but watching Liverpool-Spurs game and commentator said Redknapp not there, what with his court case and now tonight, the spurs board should dock him a weeks wages, as he clearly has not been giving job 100% Timalloy {Ed007's Note - His dog is there I heard, so that counts.}

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Ed did you see webber and sturridge walking off the park yesterday at half time chatting and covering there mouths with there hands as they spoke.lip readers will be raging now lol

Bhaldrick {Ed007's Note - They were laughing at Rangers.}

Agree0 Disagree0

0-0 ! I think Liverpool were just saving themselves to kick Man Utd's ass on Saturday ! Mrs E {Ed007's Note - It's a poor day when the highlight of a club's day is just to win one game, that's a sign of a minnow. Big teams look at the bigger picture.}

Agree0 Disagree0

Lol...not only a highlight Ed007 but a real pleasure :-) Mrs E {Ed007's Note - I want that statement on my headstone!!!}

Agree0 Disagree0

All banter aside:-

54 years ago today 23 lives were lost, 8 of those lives belonged to 8 of the Busby Babes RIP Lads, play on in heaven.

Mrs E {Ed007's Note - Nice one Mrs.}

Agree3 Disagree0

I was reading this as well:-

The last game the Busby Babes played together as a team was against Red Star Belgrade 54 years ago today; where they came back from 3-0 down to draw 3-3 in the snow and mist.

Today Manchester United played Chelsea; we came back from 3-0 down to Draw 3-3 in the snow and mist.

Just a coincidence, or were the Busby Babes watching over us today?

Hi Ed, just a quick reply to the earlier post about the Govan tax dodgers, how certain is he about his "Source"?
My opinion for what its worth.... I don't believe the Whyte Sh**e will put them into admin until the tribunal decision is known, having said this I think from his "quotes" about the next couple of weeks being the hardest in the clubs history, one would assume he's expecting a decision sooner rather than later!
Your thoughts Ed?
P.s Keep up the good work!

IT’S time for Rangers fans to play the numbers game … and they must look beyond the most obvious statistic they awoke to today: That two out of this season’s three domestic trophies are gone after their meek Scottish Cup capitulation at home to Dundee United.

Look beyond, too, the fact that they have won just one of seven cup ties this term when European action is considered; that they have blown a one-time 15-point lead in the SPL over Celtic, who must now be short odds to romp to a Treble.

Those are the numbers attached to the football fall-out. However, as the embattled manager, Ally McCoist, said before the United humbling which was, significantly, watched by fewer than 18,000 supporters: Does what’s happening on the pitch really matter any more?

Given the way just about every one of those in blue hid yesterday, it’s not inconceivable that is the feeling in the Rangers dressing room. This looked like a bunch of players who had seen one headline too many, and chucked it.

It also looked like a group who, if truth be told, are bereft of real quality as a result of asset-stripping without adequate replacements. And those who do have anything about them, have lost it. But, again, that’s not where the Rangers supporters should be training their sights.

It’s hard not to feel sympathy for a support who are in a fog of financial confusion, attempting to find some kind of clarity as to exactly how desperate and dangerous these times are for a club now into its 140th year of existence.

And, make no mistake, these are the most perilous times Rangers have ever had to face. But it is absolutely imperative that each and every one of them stops, digests what they are being told, and asks the burning questions of the man who purchased the club last May, Craig Whyte.

Let’s track it back to then, the time of the takeover. Whyte proclaimed that Rangers were ‘debt free’ when he finally sealed a deal to replace Sir David Murray as the majority shareholder.

But, inside nine months, if we are doing the sums based on what is being put out there by the owner and chairman, they are now a minimum of £42m in the red – £18m to his company, who apparently paid Lloyds for the bank debt, and £24m to Ticketus, after the income expected from 100,000 future season ticket sales was borrowed against.

And that is before the potential HMRC liability, which could be as high as £49m if they are found guilty of mis-using the Employment Benefit Trusts, with a tribunal set to announce its ruling on that lengthy investigation some time next month.

Whyte was asked yesterday if he feared a season ticket boycott, something which would, of course, put enormous strain on the Ticketus arrangement, as it is after all based on season ticket sales.

Well, yesterday his support voted with their feet. What happens if they decide en masse not to renew their season tickets? With the product Rangers have on the park right now, who would shell out up front to fund that?

This is a dangerous strategy being deployed by Whyte, and a warning came yesterday when the attendance flashed up – but it’s too late to back-track with Ticketus.

He talks of a £10m gap in funding. Was that not evident when due diligence was done? Would it not have been easier to sell Nikica Jelavic last August when more money was on the table than enter into this Ticketus arrangement, or work at getting that figure down over the year?

And exactly why is there a funding gap of that size. Rangers’ unaudited accounts to year-end June 30, 2011, showed £9m cash in the bank. Where is the Ticketus money? Are we to assume it will be in the audited accounts that must appear before March 31 in order for Rangers to be given a licence to play in Europe next season?

But, and this is based on Whyte’s figures, if £33m was set aside from his own wealth for this deal, as he claims, if the £24m from Ticketus went into Rangers’ bank, add in the £9m that was lying there from season ticket cash already banked, throw in Madjid Bougherra’s £1.8m and Charlie Adam’s sell-on clause of £900,000, then that’s over £68m in terms of incomings.

Even running at a loss of £800,000 a month, as he claims the figure is, just how can Rangers have no money and have to sell Jelavic on the cheap in what appears to be a bid to get cash in the door just to keep them going?

Whyte can, of course, clear all of this up. Produce accounts. Have an AGM. Explain why the Ticketus deal was not in the shareholders’ circular sent out detailing the financial detail of what his takeover entailed.

Rangers fans must do the sums … they must demand answers.

Interesting reading.

Ian

Believable2 Unbelievable0

Interesting reading indeed.but there has been interesting stories out there for years,i wonder whatthis is the latest in king,keevins,guidi and lets not forget the gruesome pairing of traynor and jackson have been reporting on? oh thats right telling us lenny was on the brink ,printing pictures of him with "the most hated man in ibrox".whats the motivation to research rankers now? is it whytes refusal to drip feed stories to scotlands "churnalists"? could there be a hidden agenda? is this being driven by a ex directors new consortium? looks to me like theres a new friend of the lazy scottish media,somebody who will pick up the bill for "succulent lamb and fine reds?". green jhedi

Agree0 Disagree0

It's actually very lazy journalism, using Whyte's own words to try and trip him up.

This should have reported months ago, through proper investigative journalism.

Agree0 Disagree0

The reason the ticketus deal was not in the circular sent to shareholders was because the deal was made, with murrays backing, BEFORE the takeover.

all of this will come out in the wash in the next few weeks, where we'll probably see the Whyte Shyte in court for perjury as well;)

They actually put Mervin on the back of Celick's shirt....... Priceless.... {Ed001's Note - he is Turkish, they always put it that way, see Tuncay Sanli has Tuncay on his shirt.}

Believable1 Unbelievable1

It doesn't really matter if it's his first name or second name he uses. If he keeps playing like he did yesterday I'm sure they'll print Scheidt on the back.

Aye Ed's right.

However if his full name was Hamish Jock Celik from John O'Groats I still think they'd stick Hamish on there.

Ed does Hamit Altintop not have Altintop on his shirt? {Ed007's Note - It isn't a rule. Do you think Hulk at Porto is actually called Hulk, Kaka, Ronaldo etc etc.}

Agree0 Disagree0

No Ed, Hulk, Kaka and Ronaldo are Brazilian..(I wont insult your intelligence, im sure you know why they use nicknames)..I cant see Alan McGregor getting away with putting Sha**er on his shirt!...Ed001 implied at the start of the thread that as Celik was Turkish (not Brazilian) he has Mervan on his shirt in the same way that Tuncay Sanli puts Tuncay on his shirt, as "they always put it that way"... I mearly pointed out that this isnt always the case and Hamit Altintop has his surname on his shirt. {Ed007's Note - Players can have any name on their shirt, that is the point. A lot of Muslim players do it as well, it is no big deal.}
