Good evening everyone I hope I find everyone well and starting to get excited before tomorrow's crunch match. I have been working hard all week and now have a few days off I've decided to open a bottle of Jamesons I got for my birthday last month so you have my apologises if I ramble on Ed007. I'm actually a bit angry with myself that I am not over in the 'Dam right now, I had the chance of a ticket the other week and turned it down but now the game is here I wish I had went even more so that my sister in law has decided to appear and stay for a week. I went out there in 2001 when we played them and loved every minute of it. I just hope all our fans are safe over there after the carry-on in Glasgow a fortnight ago. I really think we have the chance to come home with 3 points tomorrow night, Ajax looked a very poor team at Celtic Park and we really rattled them I think, they will not be looking forward to tomorrow night's match. Again I think it will be down to Samaras performance how we go, if he is there to get in and around their defenders we have a great chance although Brown not being in midfield will be a BIG miss for us. For once I my confidence in our defence is sky high big VDV seems to be the lynchpin we have been looking for and Lustig must be one of the best signings Lennon has made. If Izzy can keep his concentration defensively I don't see them causing us too many problems and Forster is going to be one of the top keepers in Europe by the time he turns 30. Sadly he won't be celebrating that birthday as a Celtic player but this is his stage to keep proving his worth and I will predict that one way or anther he goes to Brazil as England's No.1 next summer. It's up front I am worried, we don't have anyone that will make a half chance a goal. I would maybe even risk unleashing Balde on them along with Stokes. Ajax are definitely there for the taking and a win would be a giant leap towards European football at Celtic Park after Christmas, even a crack at the Europa League could turn into another adventure for this wonderful club I am lucky enough to support. I added a post on your thread about Guardiola, you really don't like that poor guy do you Ed007 but some of your own posts are f***ing inspiring stuff mate and it's obvious how much the club means to you. More power to you mo chara.I'll shut up now, I need a refill.

Thanks for reading Ed007 and everyone.

C'mon the Hoops!

Never Forget, Never Forgive. {Ed007's Note - Hi Che and thanks, I do tend to get a bit carried away once I get started but that's what the site is all about. Your assessment of tomorrow night seems pretty spot on to me, and I am not on the Jamesons :) Your rants are like everyone else's and are always welcome on here. HH mo chara.}

Sitting in Dubai airport waiting on my flight to Amsterdam just praying that after all this travelling we can get a positive result. I think a win tomorrow and we will progress to the last 16 but its going to be very tough to achieve. Think we will need to keep a clean sheet to get the win as I'm not very confident that this team could score 2 away. We really seem to be struggling for goals. Fingers and toes well and truly crossed. Mon the hoops!

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Not hopeful at all but I can't wait either. Celtic, in Amsterdam! Getting a half one flight tomorrow so i'll check in at the De Rokerij ;) then head to the game. Try to stay out of the city centre in your hoops anybody that is going.

Would love fellow readers predictions for tomorrow's gemme or maybe ed could start a poll. I'm confident we can get a result and think it will be 2-1 to the Bhoys. {Ed007's Note - I'll get that set up no problem.}

What's the likely team against Ajax? Who is defo injured and who is a probable will play?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Sami seems to be the biggest doubt but fingers crossed he can make it. Also hopeful Commons and Lustig will be back. Best case scenario, for me team would be;
(4-3-2-1/4-5-1)
Forster
Lustig - Ambrose - VVD - Izzy
Ledley - Kayal - Mulgrew
Commons - Forrest
Sami

Agree0 Disagree0

That team would be the one for me too. Thought about Pukki as I would prefer him to Stokes but that team looks more solid and still has pace up front to counter attack. martyc1888

Q. Exactly when should Celtic Football Club fail to be at it's mightiest? pea {Ed007's Note - When the club's official site and tw@tter is promoting patronising garbage that appeals to 12 & 13 yr olds and accepting being seen and treated as a 'nice' wee friendly club. Yesterday was mortifying to me, as a CFC fan, with all the muck from Guardiola, Riberry and Redknapp. We are, or at least we should be, better than that.}

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Ed you are mortified with some of the past and present stars of the footballing world heaping praise on our support, club and manager?

What is so wrong about that?

This respect as well as playing good free flowing attacking football is to me, what being a fan of Celtic is all about.

Frewbhoy {Ed007's Note - It has absolutely nothing to do respect and if you think that that then all you are doing is showing how gullible you are. To me being a CFC fan is about watching our team try to win. Have you never thought that these managers and players want to play us because they know it will be an easy enough win for them? None of them come out and say how they would like to play Man Utd at OT or Barca at Nou Camp do they? Ask yourself why that is?
Clubs never heap praise on other clubs they fear. Do you think the club under Jock Stein would have revelled so much in getting patronising pats on the head from opposition clubs. If you need Pep Guardiola or anyone to praise the club as a way of defining yourself as a supporter, I'm sorry, all you are doing is you are helping project a small club mentality. I would much rather they hated us, feared us and dreaded playing us, they look forward to it for a reason.
Remember when some wee fishing village team was drawn against Celtic or Rangers in the cup and B8C would go up and interview the whole village about playing at CP or Ibrox, how players were missing a shift to travel down etc etc, we have became that wee village team and the sad fact is that the club and sections of the support are not only accepting it, they are encouraging it.
Name me one other GREAT club that would revel in this garbage.. Man Utd? Liverpool? Dortrmund? Barca? AC Milan? Real Madrid?... Even Man $hitty who have zero credibility in Europe wouldn't stoop as low as some of our supporter who think it's ok to get beaten as long as we have a 'party' and make friends along the way. I'm sorry I don't buy that, again it is projecting a small club mentality, we are, and deserve, better than that. Can you honestly say you are happy that opposition players look forward to playing at CP?
It is nice that managers and players of other clubs say these things BUT the club should not be latching onto them, that my friend is mortifying. Take pride in how big a club you know CFC are, take pride in our history and the fact that have the best support in the world, take pride in our European home record, if you take your own pride in the club whatever Pep or Riberry has to say is neither here nor there, they are only telling us what we already know so why get excited about them saying it. All they are doing is handing out soundbites for the fans to use as some evidence to prove how great a club we are, I already know that though, I don't need Pep Guardiola to validate my feelings.}

Afternoon Ed007, I find this a weak point in your replies , you seem to sit on the fence lol, your not a schoolteacher by anychance , off out drop back in later cheers {Ed007's Note - I know mate, sometimes I am far too diplomatic for my own good.}

Agree0 Disagree0

Totally agree. We have heard it all before. Clubs want to plays really because they think we are easy meat. Players want us for testimonials, not because we are seen as a threat but we bring a large support (cash in pocket) and we don't wreck havoc in the ground and surrounding areas. I want to hear that teams don't want us drawn against them. jS would not have stood for this. {Ed007's Note - Thanks Tim, I sometimes think it must be me getting old or that I am losing common ground with fellow supporters. The club seems happy to develop a siege mentality on the domestic front only to turn into something ugly that needs re-assured and justify that we deserve to be playing at the very top level.
We deserve it as much as anyone for the simple reason that we have played our way there, we have won matches and beaten teams on merit, it's not luck, we are not lucky to be there,we deserve it all.
Add the fact that we never needed to try and cheat our way in like other clubs means we can hold our head high, representing the club/fans and the country, in any footballing company, without needing Guardiola to patronise us with a pat on the head and a ruffle of our collective hair. If he want's to experience how good it is at CFC he can fire his CV in with the rest when NL moves on.}

Agree0 Disagree0

What was it tht celtic website were saying {Ed007's Note - You don't read the official CFC site? Can I ask why?}

Agree0 Disagree0

I only go on the website now and again ed If am being honest a was only asking what had been said {Ed007's Note - I was actually curious Dez, it surprises me the amount of people who don't read the official site every day. I'm not meaning everyone should read it but I think it says a lot about the quality and content of the site that you, and a lot others, don't pay it any attention.
It was running stories about how Guardiola and Ribery were hoping to play us in the last 16 and how great the fans are etc etc. IMO the club should leave all that kind of stuff to the newspapers instead of promoting it themselves as some kind of honour bestowed on us.}

Agree0 Disagree0

Arite ed well as a said a only go on it now and again and hasn't been on recently although a do agree with you a find that stuff bit patronising would rather teams didn't want to be drawn against us they're basically saying ad love to experience the atmosphere plus well get through as well your point about the Cfc website a dnt really think its worth going on everyday it seems more aimed at younger people in my opinion but that's just how a feel {Ed007's Note - I think most club's websites let the fans down. It should be your first stop of the day for all the news on the club with exclusive stuff thrown in to encourage readers. As you say they seem to be trying to attract people to spend their time (and money) on it rather than deliver a service to them.}

Agree0 Disagree0

Hi all, I tend to agree with ED007 that it comes across as having the mind of a small club grateful for the plaudits. I feel it's a little different when players or managers applaud us after they have failed to get a result against us however. As the ed and others have said previously though I want teams to fear coming to paradise.

Where I think my opinions differ a little from a lot of fans though is that I really liked the fans applauding Iniesta during Barca game. It was totally off the cuff and came at a difficult period in the game and I just felt a lot of pride in my fellow fans that although they were clearly upset they could take 10 seconds out to applaud a genius of the game, and completely unscripted.

Agree0 Disagree0

That's what I love about this site. Fans can come here and say things that gets you banned or called allsorts on other Celtic forums. I tend to agree with the general feeling on this thread but I must admit that it does feel good to read people are jealous of us and not just those less fortunate than ourselves across the city.

Never Forget, Never Forgive.

Agree0 Disagree0

Ed, there's not one company in the world that would not advertise that they have been praised from their peers.

You hear players and managers, mentioning all the time they would love to play at OT or Bernabue etc, not because they are confident of beating the host but because they want to sample the best stadiums and atmosphere.

Frewbhoy {Ed007's Note - So when NL said he wanted Real Madrid in this years draw it was all over the Real Madrid website and the Madrid fans all got a hard-on over it? I missed that sorry, and I keep a close eye on the happenings at the Bernabeu as well. I'm not talking about managers saying they want to play at OT or Bernabeu, I'm talking about the clubs using it like some kind of badge of acceptance. Show me where Man Utd have boasted about a manager saying something nice about the club? They don't have to, they know how big their club is, they actually brag about it. Do Man Utd fans give one flying f**k what anyone thinks of their club, do Madrid or even Liverpool fans care what others think? No they don't so why should we, we are as big a club as anyone and it's about time some fans realised this and took genuine pride in having the privelege of supporting CFC, without needing anyone telling them how it should be done or telling them how great the club is, as supporters we should know better than anyone. }

Agree0 Disagree0

So you keep a close eye out for hard-on's @the bernabue, that's a bit of an outburst (even for you ED).

In all seriousness ed, I guess I just think football is all about given it your all and being gracious in defeat; appreciating exceptional talents and well run teams.

I don't need anyone to tell me we are a special club either, 32 years of emotions so far, has done more than any praise.

Frewbhoy {Ed007's Note - I walked into that one, not literally of course ;) So why do you think it is acceptable for CFC to promote comments made by people outside the club? They have kept quiet every time someone from The Rangers/Sevco/Newclub have dragged our name into their problems yet are happy to bask in the spotlight any patronising pat on the head from opposition clubs in Europe shines on us.
Remember I am not talking about the fans or tabloids talking about other people's comments, I'm talking about the club's official media outlets, the same media outlets that were blasting out support for some non-entity that was on X-Factor last week, who is OKing this stuff from inside CP, a 17 yr old female uber-fan ffs!!!
Is it the club itself that is suffering from a small club mentality and it is rubbing off on the fans? Why is it acceptable that others hold no fear of coming to Celtic Park and the club help promote this image that we are a great wee club who don't care about winning or losing as long as we don't upset anyone important?
It is this small time thinking that goes against the club in the footballing political forum, would a Man Utd, Barca or Chelsea player have got a 3 match ban for what Brown done?
We deserve to be playing at this level as much as any other club but until we get rid of this nonsense we will always be seen as nothing more than a freak circus act to be watched and applauded for putting on a good show.
As I keep saying, we as a club are, and deserve, better than that.}

I can't help suspect we've been told we're crap so many times even CFC's media team somehow believe it. Their actions might suggest so. pea
