Seen this post on my Facebook page : -

Proponents of the new Rangers FC have consistently been harping on about how their Club is the 'biggest Club in Scotland'

Quite how a Club formed at the beginning of this season and plying their trade in the lowest tier of Scottish football can make such a claim is a mystery to me but let's indulge James Traynor, the director of communications for the new The Rangers Football Club.

Lets ignore the fact that he works for a team in the lowest division and we will now compare the old Rangers FC to Celtic FC.

If we compare recent League Titles in the SPL then old Rangers have won 7, Celtic have also won 7 but if we include this year it will soon become 8.

If we take Titles over the last 50 years the old Rangers have won 22, Celtic have won 23, not counting this years.

In the same time period Celtic have lifted the Scottish cup 18 times to Rangers 17. The only competition the old Rangers have a better record than Celtic is in the least important trophy available to the Premier teams of Scotland, the League cup, Celtic only managing to lift this trophy 18 times in the last 50 years compared to the old Rangers winning it 23.

In comparing trophies its also important to note that whilst Rangers managed to win the old European Cup Winners Cup before it was made obsolete Celtic, of course, lifted the European Cup and still remain the only Scottish club to have reached the final of Europes premier Club competition. Whereas Rangers share the honour of winning the Cup Winners Cup with Aberdeen.

Therefore in terms of trophies won its quite clear that Celtic have held the upper hand in the last 50 years, unless we wish to count 5 League Cups - as if they hold some massive sway.

Going back to the Scottish Premier League formed in season 1998/99 Celtic sit atop almost every record table.

In the overall SPL table from its conception Celtic sit proudly at the top with the most points, most games won & the most goals. Also: -

-Biggest home win - 9-0 versus Aberdeen,
-Biggest away win - 1- 8 versus Dunfermline,
-Most consecutive wins - 25
-Most games unbeaten - 32
-Most points in a season - 103
-Most goals in a season - 105
-Most wins in a season - 33
-Fewest conceded in a season - 18
-Fewest defeats in a season - 1
-Fewest home defeats in a season - 0
-Fewest away defeatsin a season - 0
-Consecutive clean sheets - 7
-Clean sheets in a season - 25
-Highest attendance - 60, 440
-Highest average attendance - 59, 363

In terms of attendances Celtic have had a higher average attendance than the old Rangers for every season except one since the formation of the SPL. Perhaps this is no surprise as Celtic own the largest football Stadium in the entire Country whereas Rangers only have the 3rd largest stadium in Glasgow alone.

Celtic consistently had a larger turnover than the old Rangers due to the higher number season tickets sold, better sponsorship deals offered and the far more successful merchandising operation.

In fact when one compares the old Rangers to Celtic, it is quite easy to see why they went into Administration and eventually Liquidation.

In order to compete with Celtic they had to have an overspend of at least £10 million a season. To plug this financial black hole David Murray poured in investments from ENIC, NTL Dave King and the Rangers fans in the shape of debentures and every one of them lost their money. He even absorbed £50m of old Rangers debt into MIH in an attempt to get them on an even keel. All to no avail.

That is not even beginning to talk about the dodgy tax avoidance schemes he operated which may yet prove to be illegal and may yet result in the stripping of Titles acquired by the old Rangers football club (this we find out within a fortnight's time).

The fact of the matter is and James Traynor should take note Rangers FC, old or new, cannot compete with Celtic. The old Rangers broke their back and died trying the new Rangers, ALREADY running at a £3m loss this season in SFL3 do not stand a chance.

Next week as the world looks towards St Valentines day it will be one year on from the day the old Rangers went into Administration and new Rangers have a game against Clyde in the fourth tier of Scottish Football whilst Celtic will be playing in the last 16 of the world's most prestigious Club tournament, against the champions of Italy.

So i'll ask James Traynor and ANY fan of the New Rangers, who IS the biggest team in the Country. ? And tell me why.

Fantastic fact gathering Mrs E. You would have to be a fool to argue with any of that. For me it underlines the point of why they must be punished for their reckless financial policies. You do wonder what might have happened if Murray did not go mad and try to print money! I would guess he knew things would return to pre Murray/Souness days of ten thousand crowds and the odd cup win. . . green jhedi

I was reading their Scouting system has now caught up with them now. or lack of it!

If you look at the amount of Rangers fans who ended up playing for Celtic whilst Rangers just continued to pay way over the odds for Tore Andre Flo etc.

Kenny Dalglish, arguably one of the best players to come out of Scotland and grew up a Rangers fan but played for Celtic. Says it all ~ Mrs E

And Danny McGrain Mrs E. For 3-4 years widely acknowledged as the best full back in the world. So good he switched to left back to get Jardine, himself a very good right back, in the team.

BOOM!

See if you can get that posted on the other side Mrs E. Highly unlikely seeing as they don't care much for digging for the facts or home truths but it would be interesting to see some of the rambling nonsense and made up stats about attendances this season you would get in reply.

And what happens when they do get fans playing for them? They drove Charlie Adam out of the club he loved just by being a truly horrible mob! pea

Agree2 Disagree0

You forgot one thing, when they won the 'cup winners cup' they didn't actually qualify for it. celtic won the cup but went into the big cup as champions. rangers went in as cup runners up. that was one of the reasons that competition was dropped, too many runners up in it.

Where's the shirt manufacturer and sponsor to be unveiled yesterday?
Who owns MP and Ibrox? Name pon deeds?
What's Singaporean Ticketus up to?
Why does Ibrox employ about 120 too many people?

ED007/Green Jhedi, I know both of you are very knowledgable on the zombie share issue saga.
On another forum ( I will give details if ED007 allows) a respected poster with contacts in London has posted on his blog.
Rangers only raised £9m from private investors (fans)
Institutional investors were offered shares, but with conditions.
Also promissary notes were issued by these institutions (on behalf of private clients not the institutions) NO CASH WAS PAID.
The flotation on AIM also allows them to August 2014
to issue accounts, so some leeway there for Chuckie.
I would be interested to hear your comments. Timalloy

Believable4 Unbelievable3

At the time the rumours were flying Tim I thought no way could chuckie try this on. At the time of the floatation lots of posters on another site claimed the figures were massaged. This may be why the rumours of a far east investor looking for cash surfaced. The accounts thing will, I think, kill or make him. He has already put off publishing accounts and it does seem that there might be a cash cover up going on. August 14 gives him around 18 months to produce a healthy balance sheet, but in a country where football alone does not pay that's not so easy. No season ticket increase, I would think, no European income for years, wages and bills rising, he must hate Pistol Pete!. . . . green jhedi

Agree2 Disagree0

Neither of the two Rangers clubs have lodged accounts in three years at Companies House Edinburgh. But it's the same club?
AIM stock exchange might not need accounts until August 2014, but I'm sure companies House Edinburgh needs them every year.
I couldn't believe institutional investors would risk their reputations in such a difficult market.
CG said £22m was paid for shares, is HMRC getting their cut of that?

Agree4 Disagree0

Last week the deady bears were linking a major international bank to their rotten shameful tainted brand for shirt sponsorship. Can you believe the deluded notions of these guys? Ffs a global bank on the liquidated indebted no tax paying rangers FC shirts?

I could not believe the only defence given to lord Nimmo smith hearing was the FTTT EBT result! Not even SDM or others bothered to turn up to explain the payments. We are told 30 of 81 EBTs were in HMRCs favour anyway! Now with HMRC appealing to UTTT the whole tax result dodgy defence falls flat on its face.
The FTTT was and is a red herring.
Proper registration of players has nothing to do with tax law.
The players were receiving PAYMENTS secretly furtively offshore for playing football at old rangers.
Only withdrawing titles shall uphold the integrity of Scottish football. We've done not too bad up until now and must underpin the integrity of the Scottish game with this.

The SFA must also be taken to task why a letter was written to ECA stating New Rangers 5088 is the same football club as old historic Rangers which it clearly is not!

Believable9 Unbelievable1

Regarding the letter to the ECA backing the The rangers I posted at the time that we should know who signed it off. We can then, finally, get an explanation from the SFA on the status of this third division team. Oh, the company were liquidated but the football side was bought! that's like HMV going bust but declaring that they would keep their DVD dept open, as HMV, in the same shop with the same staff and logo! Fekn ridiculous!. . . green jhedi

Agree6 Disagree0

37% of EBTs went in HMRC favour.
Probably due to shredding and non assisting HMRC investigation, the other side letters, although existing, couldn't be produced. I'm sure they all had side contracts.
Currently two tax tribunals to one (partial) in HMRC favour. It's obvious the way this is going.
Everyone knows it was payments for working for Rangers even ed039 said so months ago.

Agree4 Disagree0

I said some time ago when the photo of the mobile shredder outside ibrox
appeared in the press, that all damning evidence would be destroyed and rangers would cleared of any wrongdoing. I worked for a company many times bigger and more important than rangers and used my own shredder to destroy documen. tation. This whole thing stinks and I won't be holding my breath in the hope they get the necessary punishment for their shameful actions. jimbhoy

Agree3 Disagree0

@2; Ah, the shredding company! I had actually forgot about that. I would hope the tribunal never. . . green jhedi

@2 and Green Jhedi, don't worry the HMRC will tear the zombies to "shreds" lol Timalloy

Agree4 Disagree0

@ 1),

Peter Jones is looking to purchase the branding rights to Jessops. Meaning he would now own the BRAND that is Jessops. I suppose, going by Celtic fans' logic it wouldn't be Jessops any longer even though the BRAND has been purchased?

Rangers Football Club is a brand, just like Celtic. The Rangers brand is still being sold worldwide, just like the Celtic brand.

Why do you care so much if Rangers "no longer exist"? You seem really eager to convince yourself that Rangers no longer exist.

I've never seenso much interest in a "new club" playing in the third division in my life.

Agree4 Disagree0

Not one football club in SFL or SPL association football recognises newco5088 as the original historic football club. Scotland's premier national club side, unbroken since 1888, have stated their last old firm game was in 2012. That is honest and correct.
