If Erik is fit for Sunday who would everyone prefer to start in defence? If it's a back 3 I would go lustig Erik kolo with Tierney and janko wing backs and if it's 4 I would go lustig Erik kolo Tierney. I think O'connell deserves to keep his place but can't see him starting if I'm being honest.

Great result, now up for next one. Need still to get rid of deadwood, mulgrew, commons, ambrose and forrest.
Team, to be Gordon, janko, toure, Eric, keiran, Roberts, brown, Armstrong, rogic, dembele, griff.
Hail, hail.

Believable1 Unbelievable2

05 Aug 2016 23:08:36
I wouldn't regard Forrest as dead-wood . Hopefully we don't need him to start many matches but he would be very useful to play the last 30 mins on either wing.

Agree0 Disagree5

05 Aug 2016 23:13:12
Mulgrew hasn't signed a new contract mate supposedly he's training with us though to work on his fitness.

Agree1 Disagree0

05 Aug 2016 23:47:27
I don't believe Armstrong is good enough for Europe, and Rogic will be moved on? Bittons composure was missed the other night against Astana and does Johanson have a future at Celtic? We still need a top midfield player.

Agree1 Disagree0

06 Aug 2016 00:57:17
Why get rid of Commons, Norway1?
With all the young guys coming through we need to balance that with experience and Commons has that in abundance and is one of our best footballers.
A good coach/ manager shall look at players strengths and, I. m. o, be able to get best out of the individuals strengths, so Kris can still play a big part in BR plans without tracking back.

Agree1 Disagree2

06 Aug 2016 03:02:52
Forrest is the worst of the dead wood, get him out asap!

Agree2 Disagree1

06 Aug 2016 14:39:53
I know many Celtic "fans"! want Forest to play badly as they seem determined to get him to lose his confidence and play badly . He certainly didn't play on Wednesday night as if he was the worse player on our books.

Hi folks, been reading some of the views on on our next opponents in the play off for the champions league. Now this is just my opinion firstly I'm under no illusion that this will be a tough over two legs so here goes 1 this team will be set up to defend, 2 in both away games they have managed 0-0 draws pretty good for any side in Europe. Now for the positives they played fc sheriff of Moldova at home were trailing by a goal when sheriff had a man sent off at one stage were leading 2-1 were then hauled back to 2-2 remember they were playing against ten men in the end they won 3-2 after scoring a penalty with six minutes to play so in my opinion we should not be afraid of this team so come on all you celts we can do this and get back were we belong. Hail hail to you all.

Believable1 Unbelievable0

05 Aug 2016 23:00:45
Pat, you are spot on, this is a tie we can win, but they will feel the same. There are no bad teams at this stage in European tournaments. We have to be patient and most importantly take our chances, they are at a premium in Europe.

Agree0 Disagree0

05 Aug 2016 23:11:46
This shouldn't be the hardest of drawers and if we keep our mistakes to the minimum, I think we should make it . Their stadium holds 16,000 and I think our 60,000 could be too intimidating for them.

Agree0 Disagree1

06 Aug 2016 00:03:42
I'm hoping we can get through as the CL is where we should be but but I wouldn't be to disheartened if we dropped into the Europa group this season. We could possible get a few good results, qualify out of the group and go on a good run.

Agree0 Disagree0

06 Aug 2016 10:25:34
Are this team any better than Astana? We've still got a few gears to go as well. As long as we don't shoot ourselves in the foot we'll be just fine 'n' dandy.

Agree0 Disagree0

05 Aug 2016 21:54:07
Might not be a popular view but I would actually rather have Europa League this year. We might develop a CL team in the near future but we are so far away from that at the moment that I reckon we will end up being peppered over 6 demoralising games.

Believable0 Unbelievable3

05 Aug 2016 22:19:34
Know what you mean. However my best idea would be get into thr CL group, pocket the cash. Finish 3rd and drop into EL and we can have anothet Seville :0)

Agree2 Disagree1

05 Aug 2016 22:31:33
I see where you're coming from but I think qualifying for the CL would help us a lot to sign any potential players who would normally not consider playing in Scotland. Having said that I totally agree that a good run in the Europa league is preferable to getting hammered in the CL!

Agree2 Disagree0

05 Aug 2016 22:40:31
I can see the logic in your post, but I think you have to face the best and learn in order to compete with the best. Off sport analogy would be Andy Murray, every time he was beaten, he learned, trained and came back better. Apart from that the financial gain from appearing, used correctly would benefit future campaigns.

Agree2 Disagree0

05 Aug 2016 22:41:26

Agree2 Disagree0

05 Aug 2016 22:47:27
Another Seville? ……

are you joking

did you see the line-up on wednesday …what was there to actually like or rate …

no harm to the majority of them …if they try their best I will support them wherever they go…but we are miles and I mean miles and miles and miles and miles away from competing for a UEFA Cup/ Europa League Final

It would take 6 players and £60m to just be competitive in the latter stages of that competition.

Agree1 Disagree2

05 Aug 2016 23:00:07
Doesn't matter if it goes down as popular daviebhoy, it's just a fact wether others like it or not!
That's our level unfortunately, I'm an optimistic person but I'm also realistic and realistic wins every time!
I'd rather a run in Europa than embarrassed in champions league.
It's just the money now, I'd love to go through and think we will and claim a spot amongst the elite (we shouldn't have to qualify) we will never see the money same as before!

Agree0 Disagree0

05 Aug 2016 23:14:47
Champions League if we can make it in my opinion .
Sometimes the teams in a UEFA league section can be nearly as good as some in the Champions League . More money and prestique in Champions League.

Agree0 Disagree1

06 Aug 2016 01:01:13
Champions league over uefa everytime, the only way we'll ever build a squad capable of playing in the premier tournament is to take part in it in the first place! Giving players experience in the tournament itself, whilst making club finances btr and attracting a better quality player in the process, if we aren't good enough to qualify through the group stages hopefully then dropping into uefa for Europe after Christmas. Can't believe this is even a topic for discussion. Thinking we will sign 2 for next round and the other signings if any will be dependant on which competition we are competing in. Champions league everytime hh.

Agree1 Disagree0

06 Aug 2016 00:30:27
Had a look, a real prospect. Resembles Messi with his strength and left sided ability. Ed how long can a club tie a young player to a contract or deal nowadays?

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed007's Note - Between the ages of nine and 16 youngsters will be asked to sign schoolboy forms which are brenewed every year or two years, if the club is happy for you to continue.}

06 Aug 2016 01:25:31
Ed, Many thanks, I remember the schoolboy forms, I was signed to one many moons ago. I thought it might be a tad more sophisticated nowadays. I hope this young lad takes good advice from family and friends, the grass isn't always greener!

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed007's Note - The whole system is a hell f a lot more complicated these days and there will be posters on here know more about it than me but that's all the length of contract that's allowed.}

05 Aug 2016 21:36:39
Wots hapnin wae forrest is he out of contract or not? And if he is why is he still there? Is no one interested in him or is he convinced he can carve out a future under Rodgers. A know some people seem to think he's under contract till January but as ed says it seems odd!

Believable0 Unbelievable0

05 Aug 2016 22:39:32
He wouldn't be able to play competitive games if he wasn't under contract would he?

Agree0 Disagree1

05 Aug 2016 23:27:41
Not sure but somehow a think because he came thru the youth set up does his contract maybe go month to month once it comes to an end? Anybody help here?

Agree0 Disagree0

06 Aug 2016 00:07:11
I don't know why but all reports state he is out of contract in December. Never seen a player out of contract half way through a season.

05 Aug 2016 19:57:31
Ed I know u a big fan of the forgotten man Kris Commons lol, but just heard he has lost 1 and a half stone and his fitness levels are up.
How we could do with a fit commoms, what's your view on this football wise. (already know your non footballin views on him lol) .

Believable3 Unbelievable1

{Ed007's Note - Well one and a half stone's a good start, another few months and he might see his toes again.}

05 Aug 2016 21:08:03
A fit Kris Commons would be a good option to have. He's played and scored in big games and he'd be a real asset if used sparingly. Off the field though, as you said Ed is the man in the know and he isn't impressed.

Agree1 Disagree0

05 Aug 2016 21:29:54
A fit Commons. So his movement goes from resembling an oil tanker to a bus. No ta, think we are heading the right way. Young pacey technical team is what we want. Not suggesting for a minute we are anywhere near it. But fergie did it with Giggs and co.

Agree2 Disagree2

05 Aug 2016 21:56:45
He can now walk away from the club as opposed to being rolled off on a trolley. Cannae go him at all.

Agree0 Disagree0

05 Aug 2016 22:13:06
Ed to be fair if true, BR comes in and Commons gets fit loses weight etc, within weeks. Deila was supposed to be this dietician/ fitness fanatic, doesn't reflect well on RD in my opinion.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed007's Note - It doesn't show Neil Lennon in a very good light either - Commons stated weight hasn't wavered since he signed.}

05 Aug 2016 22:13:52
Commons time is up guys. Had some great moments in the hoops which we shouldn't forget! Time him and his heednip mrs move on. Best of luck to them.

Agree0 Disagree0

05 Aug 2016 22:29:05
That sums Commons up. He should have been a proper weight under Ronny instead of treating him like an idiot and making his job harder. He knows now that he can't point to the crowd like he did in Molde and say the fans are backing him more than the coaching team. He knows his place now and is terrified. Him and the missus have a great wee life here and they'll be doing whatever they can to stay. He should never have got a new contract, I'm sure he played the mind games with that as well. Players like him kill me because they're only interested in themselves. I know he's scored a lot of goals in Scotland but Kris Boyd has scored more than double that and I've never rated him. Commons knows nobody in England rates him, he's been on a Bosman twice and it was only us and the other lot that were interested, well and Bolton when Lennon was there.

Agree1 Disagree0

05 Aug 2016 22:52:57
Bit unfair delph Boyd played 90% of his career up here and was an out an out striker. Commons was a wideplayer/ midfielder.
Also scored 30 goals in a season carrying this so called weight and under Lennon ed lol. Nobody cared about his body shape then.

Agree0 Disagree0

05 Aug 2016 23:21:45
Sometimes when you are getting old weight comes off without dieting or training, I think that happened with Commons .
I doubt if B R picks Commons as our more attacking players are all very hard workers and are closing down players all the time preventing opponents time to play their way out of defence . B R wants everyone to do it and if players see K C or anyone else not working their socks off, the whole thing could stop. Rodgers unlikely to risk that .

Agree0 Disagree1

06 Aug 2016 00:44:18
He is still the talisman in our squad when it comes to big games. I think he will go but I want him to stay.

Agree0 Disagree0

IT hardly matters one way or other what you L M67 want, no one that matters will pay attention to us . For what it is worth I was of the same opinion as you, up until he made a fool of himself disrespecting his manager last season .

I'm happy if the sinclair signing goes through, he's a direct, pacy type player which we are crying out for, he also plays out wide or in more central striking positions and imo will become an asset for us. I've heard the doubters on the proposed sinclair transfer but he wouldn't be the first to flop at city, considering the competition. and as villa it's not as if the whole team performed the last two years or more. Doubters will eat there words with this transfer if it goes through, sinclair will destroy teams up here, and will also give us more pacy attacking options in europe.

Believable8 Unbelievable0

Flopping at city or chealsea isn't tbe worry . it's the 9 loan moves whre he flopped / didn't play well or whatever that concern . I hope he comes good but it's all based on on his brief period of form under br 4 / 5 year ago at swansea and as a 16 yr old at Chelsea . this is a big spend and we can't afford to mess them up. here's hoping.

Hopefully Commons Forrest Ambrose and GMS are on there way out. Matbe Johansen as well and that frees up wages for another 2 or 3 quality players. Change takes time. Many fans have to be patient.

BR will build his Own Team (Not PL) He's in charge. Good times ahead. Been trying to find odds on Celtic finishing Double figures Ahead of the orcs. Maybe and the treble. Anyone?

Very tough draw but we need to expect that at this stage of qualifying. I take confidence from the fact we haven't conceded more than 1 goal in a game so far and with a likely CB pairing of Erik and Kolo we should be fairly solid. It's going to take 2 huge performances from the team and from us fans in the first leg. Hopefully we have at least one signing in by then.

Believable1 Unbelievable4

05 Aug 2016 14:43:07
This was the easiest draw apart from Dundalk.

05 Aug 2016 15:06:50
Rg96 this is the hardest draw we could get. In my opinion this side will reach the knock out stages of the competition. I would have any draw apart from them. Why do you think this is an easy draw?

Agree2 Disagree6

05 Aug 2016 15:14:24
Johnnymac u at the wind up? This is the hardest draw! And they'll reach the knockout rounds! Aye nae bother! Totally agree with rg96! Apart from Dundalk this was the kindest draw! Maybe not logistically, but certainly footballing wise!

Agree2 Disagree3

05 Aug 2016 15:38:14
So johnnymac you think they will knock us out. Why do you think that considering they're ranked below the team we just knocked out. We have no need to fear this team.

Agree0 Disagree1

05 Aug 2016 15:56:03
Think it's a wee bit in between to be honest.
They are low ranked yes but they just showed that they won't be easily swept aside in the last round.

Agree1 Disagree0

05 Aug 2016 16:19:55
Brampot and Beave81, go and look at the statistics of how they have done in qualifying so far. Much more impressive than Celtic. They conceded 24 goals in there entire 2015 season. No other side in our group has those stats. I posted 2 days ago we will have anyone apart from them. Yes I think they will knock us out. Ho look at the numbers.

Agree0 Disagree3

05 Aug 2016 16:26:19
Johnnymacs on the sauce! U expect them to make the knockout stage, based on what? Turn it up fella.

Agree1 Disagree1

05 Aug 2016 17:18:23
Johnny

While we have to treat them with respect we can't base anything on stats without putting it into perspective.

They conceded 24 goals in a whole season? How many games was their season? What was their opposition like? I have to admit that I don't know much about the Israeli league apart from Ambrose, Bitton and Kayal stood out. Hardly a good advertisement.

With a bit of investment in the right players we should go into this game with a bit of confidence.

Agree0 Disagree0

05 Aug 2016 17:20:46
Hahaha Johnnymac now I'm starting to get worried your actually serious! What stats! The stats were they havnt scored a goal away from home! Or the stat that this is the first time they've went this far in Europe! They've never been in champions league but now they'r going to knock us out and reach the knock out stages of the CL! And what about the stat that the league they won last year was there 1st in 40 years! Have Zagreb ludogerets and Copenhagen been In the CL before? Did Zagreb beat arsenal in it? But aye your tipping them to knock us out hahahaha! Is it April 1st today? 😂😂😂😂😂 go look at the numbers 🙈🙈🙈😆😆😆😆😆😆😆.

Agree2 Disagree2

05 Aug 2016 17:33:01
No way is this an easy game, get a grip Bhoys.

Only easy tie was Dundalk, all the other teams are at the same level. They are defensively very good and very tough to break down. Incase I missed something, breaking teams down is something we are not particularly good at . Yet.

Also, can we trust our GK not to blunder again, I don't think so, IMO one goal will settle this tie.

Agree0 Disagree0

05 Aug 2016 17:57:10
Yeh kev I agree it won't be easy at all, especially breaking them down! Which isn't exactly our strong point! But to suggest like Johnny is that they'll knock us out and progress to the knock out stages of the CL is nonsense! This is a team that has never been near this stage! Again I'll say it won't be easy, but I would have had them over Copenhagen ludogerets or Zagreb any day of the week!

Agree2 Disagree0

05 Aug 2016 19:18:40
Underestimate this team at your peril! Any of our support who believe this will be a walk in the park are seriously kidding themselves. We as a collective support, and as BR alluded to the other night, may well have to display a fair degree of patience come the evening of Aug 17. Remember Olympiacos have had a better pedigree than Celtic over the past 5 years in terms of CL appearances so for Hapoel to beat them without conceding a goal over two legs tells us they are no mugs.

Agree0 Disagree0

05 Aug 2016 19:18:55
Its a tricky tie sure, but to say they will knock us out then go on to the knockout stages is a bit much. Got me on the rankings kev83, but i think we will win this play off mate. I try to avoid stats johnnymac they can be easily manipulated to suit the agenda.

Rumours of Scott Sinclair, Haris Duljevic and Abdul Aziz Tetteh signing in the next few days. You heard anything on any of them Ed?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed007's Note - Abdul Aziz Tetteh was scouted last season as a possible replacement for Bitton if he was leaving but perhaps Rodgers still thinks we're week in the DM position with only Bitton in there, he obviously doesn't see Brown playing that role.
The Haris Duljevic link looks like just made up Twitter nonsense and I'll be really surprised if the Sinclair deal isn't finalised at some point over the weekend.}

05 Aug 2016 12:13:40
If Tetteh is a little terrier sort of a player, constantly chasing etc we could do with him imo. Been impressed with Brown in that role lately, but he's much more box to box than that role really permits.

That team we got beat olympiacos so they are no mugs.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed007's Note - Hapoel Beer-Sheva are ranked 204th in the UEFA rankings, below Astana (118th) and even below Motherwell and Aberdeen who are joint 200th.}

05 Aug 2016 12:49:25
I wanted them or Dundalk so happy with that. We should be beating them, no matter where we play the second leg.

Any score to nil at home and I'd be pretty confident of qualification.

What ranking were lincoln red imps though Ed. I just think this will be a tough tie especially away from home. I just hope don't concede another easy goal at home.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed007's Note - Didn't we beat Lincoln RI and go through?}

05 Aug 2016 13:35:11
Yeah but we lost our away leg to a team that are way below beer Sheva. My point is we can lose to anybody we always seem to defeat ourselves with stupid defending.

{Ed007's Note - We still went through though.}

Ed these guys are no mugs. I think we might have a problem here.

Johnnymac nothing bad mt but you've been bigging this team since draw happend today do you know a lot about them or you just hoping we get beat so you can come on here and have a go a celtic, get a grip mate I've no doubt it be hard but back your own team you sound like kind a guy even if we got Dundalk you would have us for getting battered.

Hi guys 'n' gals. I'm new to this but after watching Gnabry from Arsenal play for Germany against Mexico last night I'm thinking why we are pursuing Sinclair at Aston villa. Sinclair has had many a manager admire him, bring him in and then fall out with him for poor consistency! We're talking way over ten teams folks. Where as Gnabry can play great on all 3 attacking positions available to him here at paradise,
Why not try on a loan deal with a buy clause attached?

Believable1 Unbelievable1

Can't comment on Gnabry in particular, but I think there's better options than Sinclair for the money.

Only problem is we're home first. won't have a better chance than this, decent team but no world beaters! Travel is a bit of an issue but we proved against Astana that we can cope! Hopefully a couple of signings in before Monday as well to help us out!

Clean sheet on first leg is vital. Hopefully get a couple goal lead to take over there. Definitely do-able.

I really beleave we will need a couple of signings to go through TBH we most certainly need at least one its up to the board now to get it done an attacking midfield player and a new goalkeeper would be great.

It's a trip to Israel bhoys apart from the travel might be decent draw.

Just beat Olyimpicos in the last round which is a tad worrying.

05 Aug 2016 14:13:39
Not bothered who they beat last round in all honesty it's irrelevant.
Won't be easy as no CL qualifier is (especially for us) but expect us to progress. Think we have done reasonably well so far given its still our pre season and we have a new gaffer

Ok as an old hand at watching these euro draws and mostly being disappointed by who we draw, I predict we will be going to Zagreb or Bulgaria the two toughest teams left we can get.

Agree with Zagreb Tim but I want to avoid Copenhagen! Really handy team! I want Dundalk obviously but if not then hapoel or ludogerets! I know it's a trip to Israel but they'r not in the same class as Zagreb and Copenhagen! Even though they squeezed by the Greeks! Fingers crossed we're away 1st to 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻.

I can't understand why consideration is even being given to sending GMS out on loan. He hasn't had a chance under Rodgers yet and with Roberts potentially injured for a few weeks, and as the closest to a replacement we have, I find it even more baffling. I seriously hope this doesn't happen.

Believable0 Unbelievable1

05 Aug 2016 10:34:06
Fair point about game time under BR, but GMS strikes me as a player who will never fill the shirt. He seems to suffer from lack of confidence more than most, and he seems to light weight, last season whenever I saw him he was pushed off the ball far to easily.
Scored some good goals, but I'm not convinced.
Good luck to him.

Agree1 Disagree0

05 Aug 2016 10:50:15
After the semi against sevco I wouldn't have him anywhere near a shirt heart the size of a pea, has ability but for me he's not celtic class.

05 Aug 2016 11:02:31
GMS is a squad player at very best when several injuries dictate.
Nice poster for the ladies thou.
Allan away for a year too. Next up Forrest. Would like to see Rogic put pen to paper and young Henderson progressing.

Lads, I am sure many of you will recalled me been critical of our match day referee from time to time . To make no bones about it I have often felt domestically the referee has been biased . In Europe they have been incompetent and often bought the dives and tricks of our opponents .
How ever last night was like a blast of fresh air, and even though Asanta continued their strong armed tackles and diving even when not touched . Our Young Romanian referee did his job well with little fuss and I thought he got most decisions right . Fair play to him.

Totally agree with that. . said so at the game within 10 minutes of the start they looked fair. Ref took some amount of verbal from them causing him to book a couple for abuse. They certainly felt sorry for themselves. Refreshing officialling.

Two players from Hajduk Split Lovre Kalinic gk has one year contract and current croatian Internacional other is Tino Susic cm two years contract bosnian National team, they are really experienced for their age and wouldn't cost a lot because Hajduk has financial problems, that's the kind of players I would look at.

Believable3 Unbelievable0

05 Aug 2016 09:08:02
Susic has a good scoring record . mentioned him and the keeper when the mocinic rumours where going round . croatia has a lot of good talent . which I hope we don't see first hand and get drawn against zagreb.

Scored 2 last night we was linked to him back in April. Looks a decent player and hope we follow up interest as I don't really rate Armstrong at all. Can see Commons being shifted, GMS away on loan, Looks like Henderson will be loaned too.

Still question marks about Rogic future too. I'd happily see us sell Bitton and Johansen to fund a move for a creative CAM that can play in a few formations and get a box to box midfielder like Thomas Delaney that would be the midfield sorted although I still hope we replace Forrest with someone with an end product for competition with Sinclair.

Ed

Given deadline for play off round and scope of potential opponents will Celtic sign a player or players to make the step change necessary to make it to the group stages ( noting that nowt is ever guaranteed ) or do you think they'll stick and go with what they've got?

I think we will get 1 in and I think it will be SInclair

Do you think we need someone in or would the wise move be to go with what we've got?

One last thing ed. do you think we'll be prolific enough up top to compete domestically on three fronts and put up a fight in Europe (whatever competition we ultimately end up in ) ?

Believable0 Unbelievable1

{Ed007's Note - I think at least Sinclair and possibly one more will be brought in before the next CL deadline. Unless it's a GK I don't think we NEED anyone but if the player is better than what we have then get him in and integrated into the squad.
Domestically the treble is ours to throw away again and it will come down to keeping our concentration in cup games and cutting down on the stupid mistakes that have cost us, even back to NL's time here. Our squad is simply that superior to any other team in Scotland we can only mess up the treble ourselves.
Until we know our fate in Europe I can't really say how I think we'll get on but we must get back to being a nightmare opponent at Paradise.}
