Does anyone expect an announcement on Howe tomorrow, to align with the stock exchange . I get a feeling we will be waiting until the end of the week, no more news has broken since last Thursday really . I hope I’m wrong but I have a feeling he will keep us waiting.

I really don't know Quinn, it's hard to tell with the board these days.

More hopeful of an announcement Quinn than expectant, but if it's going to be this week then another couple of day's won't make any difference. HH.

I don't think The new manager will be put in place until the season ends now. Because it won't be his team with no time to work with the existing squad. If you could imagine a new manager taking over and we lose one or two games even before the end of the season people would be wanting rid of him Celtic may well say who it's going to be before the end of the season but I can't see him taking over just do due diligence on the squad that we have already.

Agree1 Disagree0

05 Apr 2021 23:31:10
I agree Tony, I'd be hopeful the new manager will be announced shortly and start 'officially' at the end of the season. This would at least put the fans minds at ease, put an end to constant speculation and give us something to look forward to.

JK has been told he's managing the team until the end of the season at any rate.

Agree0 Disagree0

06 Apr 2021 07:48:38
For me it makes complete sense to let Kennedy take the last 6 or so games and let the new manager start afresh in the summer. The board have let it go on this long, what difference will these last 6 or so games make? That said the new manager should be announced ASAP, even although he’s not in the dugout, he can closely monitor the squad, find out who he wants, who he doesn’t, and if any that were wanting out may now change their minds ie ajer ( not holding my breath on that though) . He can also start to work out what he’s needing to bring in and start making inroads on targets. The one thing I will say is wether it’s Howe ( which it looks like) or it’s another, whoever gets the gig MUST be shown patience and given time. This is a situation he’s inherited, not created. There’s one hell of a rebuild in that squad required if the ones who want out do leave, on top of the players their that simply aren’t good enough and any manager brought in has to be given time to sort this mess out.

Agree0 Disagree0

06 Apr 2021 08:47:09
I would much prefer the new manager starts immediately as he has lots to do to prepare for next season.

1. He has to get players fit for next season.

2. He has to assess the squad and see who is staying and going.

3. He needs to get them used to his work methods.

4. He has to put all his staff in place.

5. He needs to start identifying new players.

6. He has to get them ready for CL qualifiers.

Agree2 Disagree0

06 Apr 2021 10:03:09
We need him in now to start dealing with our shambles of a club and start preparing for all the work needing done. The Summer is too late. We are always too late in the CL even when we have a manager, to wait is inviting another disaster, then again our board do love creating them. It's the only thing the excel at. Great Businessmen though, never forget that. They've conned many with that garbage.

When your Luck is IN.

Sometimes in horseracing there is no rhyme or reason, you can study the form book, follow a certain jockey or trainer, pick a horse that likes good ground etc
Then THIS happens

My young nephew aged 8 is called Dylan, today at the Irish Grand National a horse called
Freewheeling Dylan won at odds of 150/ 1 (YES 150/ 1)
So after all my careful form studying and picking my horses right at the end I thought "what the heck £2 each way won't bankrupt me" instead it bolstered my bank account by OVER £300
Guess which nephew will be getting a wee extra Easter surprise lol.

I had £20 on the 2nd at 9/ 1 gutted, was looking behind mine throughout last few fences waiting to see if the Fav or any others were running on as Jack Kennedy was sitting motionless and the 1 in front was 150/ 1 which you fully expect to run past but fair play to the winner it was game out in front and mine was 2nd.
Tbf Iv never been out the 1st 2 in any National in 10 years winning plenty even the virtual last year on Potters corner, never go eway though as I normally pick 3 as the odds are so good. 1 at 10/ 1 and under, 1 between 10/ 1 and 18/ 1 and usually 1 that’s been backed at big odds.

Managed to listen to most of it at work again guys and it was great, I don’t like to be Mr Negative but I’m not exactly jumping through hoops about the possibility of Howe taking over. I feel it still leaves so many unanswered questions. Why so long, why now, what happens if he is choosing his own DoF what happens IF he gets homesick or another EPL team come calling are we back to square 1 with regards DoF and backroom staff. Could he be too nice for such a massive job? Or am I over thinking this horrendous season.

I'm looking forward to the mystery guest 😀 on Thursday night.

Managed to get a ticket for this morning's 10AM @ St. Peter's Ed, Fr. Frank was in good form.

{Ed007's Note - He's had a tough time during lockdown, Pedro and is just really happy to be back doing his stuff for the Parish. Big Danny and Ian have been brilliant in helping him out, looking after him and keeping him sane lol.
If you fancy going through to the Schoenstat at Lennoxtown to meet JFP and Campsiebhoy when this is all over and I can arrange transport give me a shout 👍🙏

{Ed007's Note - I'll definitely be through once lockdown's over and anyone else that can get crammed in the car en route is very welcome - but it's £20 for a lift back 😁

05 Apr 2021 23:18:18
He certainly has Ed, he was giving me a bit of chat on the way out - I've missed his cheek! The 3 Amigos were ever present, Danny, Ian (who's a lovely man) and my pal Peter Wedlock, and you're right, they all bounce off one another and keep each other going which isnae a bad thing.

I've just listened to tonight's Podcast, really enjoyed it and completely echo the points raised as well as the views shared - JFP was superb 👏.

It would be great to get the chance to meet up, I'd really like that - just let me know the details nearer the time and we can get something sorted 👍.

{Ed007's Note - Oh Peter's a great guy but I haven't seen him since lockdown started so I thought maybe he was isolating to protect his health, tell him that Mark (with the crutches lol) and his mum were asking for him when you see him. I've known Ian for years and was very good friends with his son, also Ian, who passed away.
The podcast is getting better and better and a big thanks & 👍 to JFP for his turn yesterday, I'm sure he'll be back on in the future.
I'll keep you up to date on the planned expedition.}

06 Apr 2021 15:23:06
Will do Mark, Peter's a good guy, my Wife's family lived beside the Wedlock's and they grew up together in Woodhead. Peter was in hospital for an op but looks well, I thought Ian had lost a bit of weight.

I'm just up the road and look forward to it 👍.

He's a gentleman and I have a lot of time for Ian. I was gutted seeing him when he lost his bhoy but have no doubt that Fr. Frank, Danny, Peter and the 'old school' at St. Peters would have helped him, maybe even gave him purpose to keep going and hopefully still do.

God bless them all Mark, characters, and there are too few of them in the world 🙏.

Like the rest of us, I am waiting every day for THE announcement. Whether it's Eddy Howe, or Eddy How-No, depending on the rumour-mill. Frustration, doubt and hesitation are negative words, becoming too familiar when it comes to Celtic; whether it's haggling or stalling on transfers, or indeed the caliber of quality, substitutions during a tough match, or naming a new manager when there are no showers available. Driving-on from a position of strength has always been a failing going way back with Celtic and this complacency has cost us - although we never learn. The new manager has to be as big an appointment as MON or the current Leicester manager, simply because we need a lightening bolt to snap this sleeping giant back to life and get our priorities and values back to (Celtic) basics. Domestic dominance, that will ensure door number one in Europe and resurrecting our once proud European reputation, where teams wanted to avoid Celtic Park and not like these days when they rub their hands before an easy tie. Common sense suggests decent European runs attract better players, MON, WGS and NL's first stint proved thatnand the current squad we have also backs-up the reverse, with recent very average transfer windows and even existing players looking to the exit door. Having zero supporters has hurt Celtic more than most others, but we have to be farsighted and ambitious in this appointment so we don't end up like the 1990's again with a revolving door for managers and players alike. My early preference included Benitez Petrescu, or Martinez; with Moyes showing up well on the rails after his dodgy period in and around the Man U experience. However, I wait and commit myself to whoever the next manager will be and just hope we get it right in every aspect?

I loved Frank McAvennie as a player and unlike some of our other ex-players has not turned out to be a soup taker.

That being said, I had to laugh at his comments today, relating to Callum McGregor being our next captain.

In Frank's opinion Callum is too quiet to be the captain. However, if memory serves me right Paul McStay, who was also a quiet man, was our captain during Frank's second spell at the club and I have heard him waxing lyrically about him.

Anyway, Frank is just a boy fae the scheme (Milton) who was blessed with football ability instead of brains, so I won't hold it against him. Just found it funny how he had not thought his opinion through.

I don't think you will hear any of us disagree with you about McStay. Anyone that had the pleasure of watching him play will remember that talent forever.

I was just pointing out that you don't need to be like Scott Brown to be a great captain, which is what Frank McAvennie was suggesting.

@Deep River Bhoy - McStay did not have Aitken behind him when he became captain. Aitken had been captain up until he left for Newcastle. Aitken's leaving created the opening, which McStay filled.

Celtic have a good cup record against Sevco and we also had a decent cup record against Rangers.
The last time any of their clubs beat Celtic in a 90 minutes cup game, was in 2003.
When John Hartson ( happy birthday ) missed a last minute penalty in the 2003 league cup final.
Celtic have since played their 2 clubs a combined 14 cup games since and we have won 10 matches and drawn 1 game ( the Broony game )
Rangers progressed in a league cup 1/ 4 final tie at Ibrox and achieved a league cup final in 2011 at Hampden, both in extra time.
And then Sevco won on penalties.

Let me disect Commons article.

On one hand he says Martin O'Neil and Brendan Rodgers had a chance of success because of their personality and weight of character. Then implies Howe does not have a chance because he is softly spoken and articulate.

Now correct me if I am wrong but the reasons he cites on why Howe does not have a chance are the exact reasons Martin and Brendan succeeded because both O'Neil and Rodgers are softly spoken and articulate.

He then goes on to claim that Bournemouth bought their way to success and were funded by a Russian Billionaire.

Let's first look at Maxim Demin the Bournmouth owner. Most of the articles I have read state that his networth is between 100-200 million. Which is a long way off being a billionaire.

So did they buy their way to success? Perhaps their spending helped in the Championship and League 1 but was certainly not the case in the premiership.

In 2019/ 20 season Bournemouth had spent 204.1M on transfers in 5 seasons, which equates to just over 40 million per season. This was the 5th lowest in the premiership and 2 of the ones lower than Bournemouth had just joined the Premiership. The highest was Man City with 818.5M. So would have to say they did not buy their way to success and that 2 of the seasons he had them punching above their weight.

Commons then claims that their net spend (which I should point out is not a metric that should be viewed in isolation as he has done) was just over 135M. In fact the net spent was 133.4 but I won't split hairs over it.

He then tries to back up his point by saying that Liverpool, Tottenham and Chelsea had lower net spends, which is true but that does not mean that Bournemouth were big spenders.

Liverpool for example had spent 470.9M on transfers, Chelsea 656.9M and Spurs 322.3M, which is considerably more than Bournemouth.

To get a better understandingon who the big spenders were, we need to look at the Wage Bill for each club.

Liverpool 310M, Chelsea 286M, Spurs 179M and Bournemouth 111M. Figrues from the 18/ 19 season, which made AFC Bournemouth the 12th biggest spenders on wages.

As you can see they did invest but they have not been as prolific at spending as Commons is suggesting. In fact I would say Commons is being disengeous with how he is portraying the facts and in my opinion he is doing so to suit his anti-Celtic narrative.

Agree1 Disagree0

05 Apr 2021 12:59:54
Good post LAW commons is a clown. No one knows how howe will do if he is our manager. But for me he has enough experience to be a success. My only concern is not having managed a big club ( but got to start somewhere when it comes to that) and his signings at Bournemouth weren't really the best but not sure how much control he had over that side of things.

There was an astonishing end to the 1904/ 05 season.
Celtic and Rangers both finished top of the league with the same amount of points after 26 league games.
Rangers had a better goal difference but that didn't count in 1905.
That now meant a playoff match would take place at Hampden to determine the Champions.
An English referee was brought up from Preston to officiate the game because the Scottish football league said it was impossible to pick a Scottish referee for the match after the recent trouble, which had occurred in the previous months of 1905.
The trouble started on January 1st in the New Year Derby at Ibrox.
The game was abandoned in the 2nd half due to the Estimated large crowd of 70,000 continually spilled on to the pitch.
The rearranged match took place in our 2nd last game of the season.
Rangers only needed a draw to practically win the title, although they had a few games in hand still to play.
Celtic hammered Rangers 4-1 at Ibrox which gave us a better head to head record after drawing 2-2 in the league match at Celtic Park.
Celtic had now played all of our league matches but Rangers had 3 league games still to win, which they did with ease.
In between those fixtures, Celtic met Rangers in the 1905 Scottish Cup Semi Final in the March.
Rangers were winning the game 2-0 when the game was abandoned after 80 minutes due to crowd trouble.
The Celtic 4th all-time top goal scorer in our history, Jimmy Quinn was accused of kicking a Rangers player and was sent off.
The decision caused the crowd disturbance and the game was abandoned.
The SFA confirmed the result would stand at 2-0.
The Rangers player offered a statement to the SFA to confirm that Jimmy Quinn didn't kick him but the SFA still banned Jimmy Quinn for a full MONTH.
Back to the Championship Playoff match to determine the League Champions of 1905.
The game wasn't played until May 6th 1905
Celtic won the League by beating Rangers 2-1 at Hampden.
Celtic scored 2 quick fire goals in the 60th and 61st minutes.
Rangers replied in the 66th minute but the scoreline remained 2-1 to Celtic.
Jimmy Quinn played in the game after serving his one month ban but he failed to score in the match.
After losing the league in the playoff game, Rangers also lost in the 1905 Scottish Cup Final.
Celtic went on to dominate Scottish Football and it was the start of 6 titles in a row, up until 1910.

With it looking increasingly likely that Howe will be our new manager, one thing that puzzles me is the fact he has been available from start of season, why has it taken our Board so long to act.
Rumours also that even when appointed he will NOT start until season ends but will in fact work behind scenes to get team ready for NEXT season.
The next few days and weeks look likely to be busy for our rebuilding programme and hopefully Howe can attract some top notch players to Celtic Park.
