Av seen that rangers are talking to Christophe Berra soulfnt we be trying to get him I think he's a good Center half?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Sorry man but he is P---
Tambhoy

Agree0 Disagree0

I'd rather sign his the Chuck . DH

Agree0 Disagree0

He's a dumplin mate. He is so slow and he's turns like a double decker bus. Any nippy striker around his feet give him a nightmare. Strong in the air and can handle the physical side but he's a limited defender and has big faults. Without having a dig at that other mob think about the fact he doesn't seem to have ANY other concrete offers except for a team in the 3rd tier of Scottish football who are playing part time opposition. He isn't rated down south hence the lack of options. There has been talk of Leicester, Charlton and Blackpool but only Blackpool have registered an interest and even then in the same breath they admitted they are more interested in getting a new striker in just now meaning if he's still available after they've done that piece of business they might have a look but if he's already signed for Sevco then whatever, they move on. Hardly fighting them off is he?

I think he's a cert to sign for them. For the level they are at its actually a good signing to be fair but it won't make any difference when we meet them and take 5 or 6 off them.

Agree0 Disagree0

04 Jul 2013 21:10:30
Headers over there saying they are like Ajax . can't imagine the mob cleaning a bath . TTTS

Believable0 Unbelievable0

They should just admit it and say we want to be like Celtic and follow thier lead for we have been doing this for years now and are like Ajax. Always years to late for the true way to operate a club, it is funny though!

Quick question bhoys.

What's everyone's thoughts on wearing a Celtic top out in public? Personally I like to wear mine when I'm on holiday but I know some guys think its just for kids. I'm 29 by the way.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Of course its your top to wear where and when you want.

However, I do cringe a bit at the amount of new football tops and new white trainers folk insisting on wearing at Glasgow Airport when they are going their holidays. Its like the Glasgow holiday uniform.

I must admit I am a bit fussy about grown men in football strips and it is a bit naff if worn when Celtic are not playing. But if you are in the house or its a hot day and you are just floating about the garden then fine lol.

A fashion faux pas is a football top on a woman, they are not cut for woman! If they were meant for woman, they would be made in our sizes.

This is just my opinion anyway ~ Mrs E

Agree0 Disagree0

I wear a Celtic jacket to work everyday. On the weekend I have a Celtic t-shirt under a Celtic hoodie. I ask my boys to go and get dressed, they come out in their hoops, shorts and all. I love wearing my Celtic gear. Why wear anything else? Even if its a suit and tie thing the Celtic tie comes out!

Melb Bhoy

Agree0 Disagree0

I live in HK, I let my son wear the hops here, but not in the uk, no way. Too many eejits

Agree0 Disagree0

I couldn't wait to get the new hoops on yesterday. I was to excited to sleep on wednesdy night as I knew the carrier had my top ready to deliver. me and the girlfriends kid whent out for a bit to eat to show off the new hoops lol

Agree0 Disagree0

I'm 36 and I've usually got one of my tops or tshirts on oh well I suppose I've never grown up lol
Welshbhoy

Agree0 Disagree0

@3 I think that it's awful that you feel your kid cannot wear his team colours here in the UK. 20 years ago maybe but here in Larkhall believe it or not there is many kids & men walking the streets in Celtic Merchandise, no one bats an eyelid obviously there's more Rangers fans here but I cannot remember the last time any fights or violence broke out down to football, who supports who or religion it's a small town you would know believe me. i'd say its a very peaceful place for all & if u want to find that kind of violence you just need to go 10minutes down the road to Hamilton & I am not saying this is why but is mainly populated by Celtic fans although there is more of a mix than here in Larkhall. Be proud of your team and show your colours although our board and back room staff may not fill me with pride too often when 11 players walk out that tunnel to simply the best in red white & blue there's nowhere else I'd rather be. Hope this makes it on the site.

Larky Bear {Ed007's Note - Are you serious LB? I live in Hamilton and have a brood of relations still in Larkhall. Vandalising traffic lights because they had green in them along with the green Virgin/Cable Boxes. How many signs did Lloyds Pharmacy go through after they kept getting smashed because they were green and white. Or William Glass the fruit shop? It was even brought up at a public meeting about the newly built ASDA about the colour of their sign.

news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/scotland/glasgow_and_west/7699726.stm

Sounds a lovely place to bring up kids, if you are Andy Goram and Donald Findlay. I am 39 and my mother is from Larkhall, it always has been and always will be a bigoted, little twisted $hit-hole of a place. And don't give us any BS about people wearing Celtic colours not getting abuse, I did for years when I was visiting, and it still goes on to this very day. You must walk about with your eyes and ears shut.}

Agree0 Disagree0

The traffic lights Ed was a phase that lasted a couple of months atleast 5 years ago because I remember witnessing it It has NEVER happened since and it was only done by lads aged 15-19 drunk on a weekend FACT! I'm unaware of what you mean by the Green Cable boxes?
I just don't understand this oh you can't have a sign there because its Green Asdas been open a while now & no vandalism has occured at all. Everyone I know laughed at that when it was in the papers and I mean everyone no one in there right minds cares about the colour of a sign. The Subway signs black & Lloyds is a light blue colour it just annoys me that they changed it its pathetic. I have not been raised bigoted I have family who are Catholics so maybe my ears & eyes are closed ed. If it's as bad as people make out then why is there a Celtic pub & 2 busses running from it to the football every week without any bother whatsoever? When was the last time you were abused in Larkhall for wearing a Celtic top 10 years ago maybe? Try it now there is a big difference In integration in Larkhall recently & I for one am proud of it. Bringing up the past is no good I'm talking about now ed. The last bad thing to happen up at the Machan Vaults was a rangers fan sneaking in & putting penny arcade on the Jukebox! Use can be close minded though & only see this town from what you hear from word of mouth and old story's I'm not saying Bigotry doesn't go on it does but knowhere near as bad as the 80s & 90s and certainly hasn't resulted in any violence which is much more than I can say for Hamilton. I know lots of Celtic Fans who love living here and would not move. Sorry if I worked you up Ed I didn't mean to offend anyone there is a lot of good people here I really hate the stereotype tarred upon us & think it's makes you just as bad as the bigots in my eyes! I know I won't be missed but this will be the last Time I use this site because of you personally ED07 I have now seen you call most Rangers fans Knuckledraggers & you have called my hometown a bigoted sh*thole I don't appreciate it and do not see how your any different from the Bigots that hold back our game our country & our culture with your stereotypical views. No doubt this post won't make it on.

Larky Bear {Ed007's Note - You started slagging here I stay if you want to get all adolescent about it. If you don't like what I say then don't read it, it's that simple even someone from Larkhall should understand it after reading it a few times.
For every Celtic fan you know that loves living in Larkhall. I know at least 100 that wouldn't stay in the place for free. It might be things that have happened in the past but that just shows you how ingrained the bigotry is, it has been going on for years with numerous (countless) occurrences.}

Agree0 Disagree0

Back to the main point, over 18 and walking around in public in a Celtic/the rangers top is not on, it's for kids and the type of people who still wear multi coloured tracksuits into their 20's or 30's, which is usually combined with a Celtic/ the rangers top, 5 a sides and maybe to the game I can understand but the airport and argyle street is not on! L1888

Agree0 Disagree0

Ok Ed fair enough I apoligise for slagging Hamilton if that's how you see it I do not expect one back as the stereotype you have on Larkhall is ingrained in you as much as the bigotry is in the persons that follow it. i'd just like to say this will be my last post & that I've really enjoyed the banter on here the past few weeks some of the regulars are very knoweldgable In the football field & the patter can be excellent good luck to yous in your coming season in Scotland & in Europe for the good of the game in our country. Will see some of yous on the Gers site cheers to the ones who welcomed me on here. I will show the same respect to your views on our site.

Larky Bear

Agree0 Disagree0

Ed I can see why you reacted and I just noticed how angelic I made Larkhall sound In my 1st post & I didn't state the problems we've had in the past & still have now but I was only trying to say that it has got so so much better than 20 years ago where a Celtic top just would not be seen anywhere and it upsets me that our name will always be tarnished by that. I just wanted to say that Celtic fans are very much accepted into the community I'm proud of that & I hope it keeps getting better even if it is gradual.

Larky Bear {Ed007's Note - It has gotten a lot better than it was but it is only people who live there that say so. Outsiders still see it the way past generations took immense pride making it. And if you are being honest there are still plenty of people who enjoy and thrive on that reputation, any 12th of July will show you that.}

Agree0 Disagree0

Larky bear not a dih pal but what colour is the sign on subway and the reason they don't smash traffic lights is because they fitted wee cages round the green ones to prevent this not rubbishing your area mate but therr is an obvious problem with all things green i'm sure it's a lovelly place to live if you support rangers but I would want to walk through on a nice day wearing the hoops and i'm sure you can think of places were you wouldn't want to wear your rangers top like in public sorry just joking but I think you get the point

Hi ed wrote in the other day about signing the player from the championship didn't think it would be some1 sitting out for a year, but saying that I seen him play before he's not bad.also said about stokes signing new deal got told late last night if he doesn't sign for Sundays evening celtic will look to sell him with Sunderland and Leicester interested. Big balde looked like a player last night given the correct time maybe be another good 1. Ed can u give us a name we that will be coming in. Everyone let me know what u think of our gk I would take the money not his biggest fan what u all think

At the games, at 5 a sides, around the house now and then and once in a while when its nice outside I get the top and top on with sannies.

I was working all day today so I'm looking forward to getting my new kit tomorrow. Still haven't decided who to get on the back yet. I'm leaning towards Forrest as I really rate the wee man and the stick he's been getting has made me really dying to see him light up again. If he stays injury free he will run riot this season, I'm sure of it.

Ed, If vic and hooper leave, or when the leave do you think we will buy suitable and better replacements or look at bargain buckets and hope to produce a gem from them, sell on at high profits?
I wish the transfer window was closed next week.
john88 {Ed007's Note - I am just hopeful that the board do a better job than they have the past two windows and show some trust in NL and John Park by spending money to attract a better calibre of young player to step up our own development a level. I've said before, I would rather see our wage barrier moved up a few grand than spend £5m as a transfer fee.}

After listening to those two salad dodgers trying as hard as humanly possible to tell us all they are the same club and watching Jabba doing the biggest u-turn since Judas Johnstone I can honestly tell you I have never been so convinced in my initial hypothesis that our former biggest rivals, the club who permanently stained Scottish football did in fact die, bit the dust, rid the white horse into oblivion and with that left a trail of destruction and debt behind them.

Try as they might, Celtic will never ever accept this new club as the same Rangers. I don't even know why they bother, its a waste of breath.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Tried to watch it, but it's mostly pro sevco bullfart. The last three minutes are good though. Mc slug, with the acting skills the great Robert de Niro would have been proud of, challenges Traynor about his dead club ramblings. What comes next is some of the most cringeworthy nonesense I have ever heard. Handle with the same class? What class is that? Is this the same class that wrecked Barcelona and Manchester City centres, the same class that walked away from a mountain of debt ran up by a greedy club cheating their way to tainted titles?
The last club had no class whatsoever, the new club is only a year old, but is just as classless.
Traynor is nothing but a failed hack, who's wormed his way into a plum job and his backtracking is nothing short of laughable.
He's right about one thing though, the day of reckoning will be with us soon when BDO eventually get round to furnishing us all with their damning report, or is this going to be laughable as well?

BigRab

Agree0 Disagree0

I do not care of Celtics acceptance I accept myself that things have changed I just want to see my TEAM play football my love for them will never change.

Larky Bear

Agree0 Disagree0

Every argument they put forward can be shot to sh*t. The SFA and UEFA did not make any statement regarding their status, much as they like to claim it.

Someone from the ECA, a nothing organisation, asked the SFA for clarification. An unnamed SFA person told them the club was the same as the dead one.Nothing officially has been said by the SFA.In fact if it had not been for a ECA saying this we would not have known.

Any sensible poster on the darkside knows they are new.Everybody else does. green jhedi

Agree0 Disagree0

Salad dodgers ha!

If they were acting with 'dignity', then there would be an attempt to pay the debts of RFC. But to bang on and on and on about being the same Club then to have a major blind spot when it comes to the debt is farcical.

The same Club that argue why are HMRC appealing the EBT case as you cannot get 'blood out of a stone'. What stone would that be then?

I have my back up again about all this as I seen today some Rangers fans arguing they are the same as Fergus McCann's Celtic in 1994 when he changed the name. Well when I got married I changed my name and can still go back to my maiden name, I never ceased to exist (no jokes).

Another example, if some tax liability was overlooked at Celtic say in 1993 then the current Celtic would be liable. If something had been overlooked at Rangers in 1993, will the current Rangers be liable - NO!

If anyone wants to correct me, feel free! ~ Mrs E

Agree0 Disagree0

See if we get them in a cup at Celtic park I wonder if Celtic will charge £42 like they did when we played te old club.

Agree0 Disagree0

They are not listed on uefa sito so not recognised, simple. As for 2 diff thigs, as stated there would be 2 constitutions etc. As for liquidation for non payment of paye, this is an employee tax and the figures can only be for players income, so that means the players were part of the company? And so it follows the company won titles etc and the club contained nothing!

Agree0 Disagree0

@3) So by your reckoning the fact that certain football authorities have remained silent confirms that they are not the same club? Get real - whether you or anyone else likes it or not doesn't matter a jot. Try obsessing over your own team JUST FOR ONCE and leave others to think whatever they like. I consider myself to be a one man team, the mighty hoops and I get pissed off at the amount of fellow fans who can't wait to have a kick at a team who are supposed to mean nothing to us fans. KOBXC 67

Agree0 Disagree0

All joking aside, McCoist looks and sounds drunk in that video. Which would explain his poor performance. What would Traynor's excuse be, though?

Agree0 Disagree0

@5 . Good shout . If we draw a 2nd division team we should only be paying the same as we paid for the likes of Arbroath, Forfar etc . DH

Agree0 Disagree0

Rangers Football Club went out of.business. that's why they didn't pay their bills. The club was a business, if it wasn't then it had no players as they were employed by the said defunct business to play football. If I was owed a lot of money by them I would take this newco to court to pay it, with regard to these statements by its employees. You can't go bust, not pay people, start up again and say we are the same entity. I'm aghast at this shameless manipulation of the truth and would be no matter what business tried to pull off such blatant robbery.

Agree0 Disagree0

If it ever does come to paradise again, our team should clap it onto the park to welcome it on it's first visit and then give it the skelping of it's young life.

Agree0 Disagree0

Would also mean less money to they rats too, min price all day. We take a small hit, more likely profit, as it would be a sell out, probably, instead of the usual 14000- 18000 for the usual Stirling Albion etc type cup ties.

Agree0 Disagree0

Larky, I have no real issue with fans who just want to support the Club that play at Ibrox.

Its the 1994 'comparison' that annoys me but I think that's just more wishful thinking by some fans ~ Mrs E

Agree0 Disagree0

@7:You seem a bit upset over this. This thread was started talking about the interview. That in turn led to the status of The rangers. Obsessive? just following the conversation. green jhedi

Agree0 Disagree0

Larky. Good on you for sticking up for your team, your team I guess is whoever you want it to be thru your eyes. But old/new aside it has turned into one laughing stock in afraid. HH JOE

Agree0 Disagree0

Larky good on you for sticking it out but if yer dug dies you mourn its passing and in time you get a new dug which you love just the same but only a nutter would beleave its the same dug even if they gee it the same name and let it sleep in the same kennel rangers the second can never truly replace the gap left in your heart by rangers the first and you may try to kid yersel but yer no kiddin us
thommyj
god bless yer auld dug

Agree0 Disagree0

Maybe the way to end to end conflict on the old/new conundrum would be for fans to buy a small share holding in RIFC and turn up en masse at the AGM and ask the board the question from the floor(in a dignified manner, of course).

Paddy Malarkey

Agree0 Disagree0

Don't listen to them Larky, its the same hamster. eh Club.

Agree0 Disagree0

LOL I think these posts are hilarious old dug, hamster club whatever guys although use never will understand because I know use won't go through an insolvency event in my lifetime anyway, yes maybe Celtic fans have looked a hell of a lot further into the financial side of this fiasco than most Rangers fans and fully understand that on paper IT'S A NEW CLUB!
But until any of you go through the same thing you cannot tell me that Supporting the team is not the same or feel the same to me. Even if Celtic went on spent £100million chase the champions league won 10 in a row and plummeted to a liquidation through fraudulent owners & started again each and everyone of use may not be proud of it but that new club would be yours & you WOULD support it every step of the way without Dwelling on the past believe me I know what it's like. I support Rangers Football Club not greedy lying business man who royally shaft loyal paying fans when they're going through tough times of there own Financially.

I wish football had a similar rule to American football where a team can bring on a kicker. That way we could only bring on mulgrew to take free kicks and corners as he's slow positionally suspect at left back managed to have a great season once at centre half which surprised everybody. Journeyman and from celtic family but I'm sorry Lenny if he's to be picked every week again then I'll be amazed now we have better players in his natural position. Get a proper left back in and a prolific striker and we'll be sorted.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Charlie worries me.Lenny seems to have a soft spot for him.For me he has too many weak spots to his game.Great delivery but he needs to be pushed for a place. green jhedi

Agree0 Disagree0

He's taking ledleys place off him somehow, sometimes. Lennon certainly has a soft spot for him and it seems to me too that this can be detrimental to the team. Delivery excellent but was very ropey overall last season

Agree0 Disagree0

I agree about Charlie. I hope he stays hungry and focussed otherwise his form will plummet like a stone. True also that Joe gets shunted about and it ruins his game as a midfielder. Is a waste of talent. Sopotcelt

Agree0 Disagree0

Mulgrew should never get a game before Ledley, Van Dijk or Izzy for that matter.
NL couldn't see past him or Hooper for that matter when they were under performing and that's unprofessional.

Is it just me or does Victor Wanyama not seem to be in any hurry to leave Celtic. Is this just his agents trying to get a few quid out of him. Chances of him staying with Celtic, look not bad if you ask me, unless one of the big boys comes in for him, he has seen what its like to play in the CL and he must know that signing for Cardiff will be a huge step backwards for him, don't mean that in a derogatory way, just that their season is about survival, ours is about winning everything in site and a run in the CL.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

I've been saying the same mate hooper is the same neither have said they want to leave there waiting to see what celtic do with them hooper has had countless bids rejected for him big vic has had 12.5 million accepted but couldn't agree personal terms shows his not just going to sign for anyone that throws money at him

I know its still early days, but I said a while ago that Gary Hooper would stay this season and sign a new deal. Feel as though that's still the case and he has a lot to prove to himself in the Champs League.

@jockdj83

Believable0 Unbelievable0

I was at four games at Celtic Park last season and saw Big Vic play in the flesh .No way is he a finished footballer and there is no guarantee he ever will be . He needs to be told what to do on the park, his first touch is wanting and he always backs off from confrontation . If he had confidence in his own abilities, he could be a world beater but, as it stands, any club would be buying his potential rather than a finished object and I reckon it would be good business to move him on at around the quoted transfer prices .

JABBA: ' I was wrong' Shock.

The most arrogant and condescending reporter to ever type a word has admitted he was wrong to say rangers had died. Numerous times, in print and on radio, he told people that he was right. He was privy to things we were not.He had sources we could not tap into.

He constantly told us that he would stand behind any story he had printed as it would have been fact checked. He, like his colleague Keevins, did not deal in hypothesis, just hard facts. When questioned by sneaky, in a laughable video to quell the masses, he admits he was wrong.Rangers did not die.He had now spoken to experts and decided it is the same club.

Jabba was sports editor at one of the well known tabloids.Since resigning from that position, to be Charles Greens spin doctor, he has castigated various members of the press. He has attacked his old employers and the BBC, who also employed him, and even people he worked with at the newspaper. He is a snake. He has now shown he is a man with no morals or backbone. I would hope the media, print and radio, take issue with this turnaround.

If they do not maybe this will jolt them out of their comfort zone. He claimed that 'rangers fans in the media have been kicking sevco when they were down'. Well name some names then Jabba.Or is it one of your famous unnamed sources that told you? But it gets worse. It just would not be sevco without a threat would it?

'Their day of reckoning is coming'. Now if I was any reporter, or one of the very few journalists in Scotland, I would be incensed with this. We have seen many examples of this clubs bullying and intimidation, and more from some of their fans. Was this really a wise thing to have said?. green jhedi

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Just watched a snipet of the sally jabba interview that's a joke a perfectly scripted piece of fantasy from the sevco media outlet took jabba long enough to deny months of his own work can just picture the rehersals for this piece right ally I'll ask you a few easy questions allowing you to explain your short commings as a manager and then you ask me a wee question allowing me to deny all the crap a said aboot oor bestest biggestess club and then e'll blame every one else its that easy oh I'll drap the script roon tae ye fur thr next interview alrite mate

Agree0 Disagree0

The only word to describe those two fat bas*ards and what came out of there mouths during that interview is "Cringe!"

Agree0 Disagree0

I haven't seen the interview GJ but what a waste of time, have those two nothing better to do?

I'm actually starting to think its not everyone else they are trying to convince liquidation never happened (thus ending RFC) but themselves. If its so clear they are the same Club, then why go on about it, why take the 'you are not the same Club' arguments so seriously if its as ridiculous as they say?

The fact the Club employ Jim Traynor and not a decent scout says it all but its okay as this plan will have them in the Champions League within 5 years.

In saying that, money is still burning a hole in their pocket the same as RFC.

They have a transfer embargo yet have signed 7 (that's seven) players taking their playing squad to over 20. Talk about trying to crack a nut with the sledgehammer.

I know that their fans will say they want a good run in the Cups, which is fair enough. However, Insolvency is surely a high price to pay for a decent run in the Scottish and League Cup. ~ Mrs E

Agree0 Disagree0

@ Mrs E: Your not missing anything to be honest. Sneaky referred to the 140 years nonsense a few times, as you say who are they trying to convince, but the end was quite funny.

After Jabbas 'day of reckoning' threat Sneaky realised he better chip in. He said 'but we will act with dignity as we have for the last 140 years. well except the last two'. Hilarious. green jhedi

Just watched 10 mins of " interview " and couldn't take anymore . It isn't exactly Frost Vs Nixon . To quote Mcoist " in an ideal world we would go and get the best youngsters from all over the world, get three or four years out of them then sell them off at a profit, and no doubt those days will come back again! " . Have I missed something here . When is the last time Sevco bought a promising foreign youngster and sol him at a profit? Gattuso? . He also believes " we " will be back on a par with Porto, Ajax and Benfica . And this is just the first ten mins . The rest of the interview must have been pure comedy gold but my sides just couldn't take any more . Mcoist really is a piece of work and the funny thing is . They actually believe him . DH

Is anyone else concerned about what's going on this transfer window? let's have a look at this. Rogne away on a free. No return for 4 years development. How did that happen? Was it bad luck, bad plannng or arrogance from our negotiators.
Next Stokesy. Not everyones favourite player but why oh why is there any doubt surrounding him. He should have gotten a contract offer without any fuss. Next big Kelvin. There should be no discussion. let's get him sorted on a long term contract and give the boy some stability and prove he is wanted. So there is 3 which I can't understand.
Next up selling our top players. Great FF is not for sale. But Hooper and Wanyama! Do we have any ambition whatsoever. We have Wanyama for two freakin years. Two. How much money and entertainment are we potentially going to miss out on if we sell him for even 15m. Get him on a 4 year deal and give him the money he wants. Same with Hooper. Give him a contract even if he and Wanyama too only extend by one more year. All this buy cheap and sell big is all well and good but where is it leading? We are football fans. We are Celtic fans not bloody bean counters. How in Goodness name we have been brainwashed into accepting the sale of two of our best players I will never get my head around. If we were financially in the Sh** I could accept it but we are not. So what's going on? If NL is happy with this I would be amazed. In fact I suspect he is privately raging. Remember we have a buffer of 30million. Why don't we invest that to protect our assets that is the team and kick on from there. I tell you Wanyama will be a huge loss absolutely huge and I don't think many people understand this. We have a unique opportunity here to really do something special and it is going to get Pi***d away if we are not very careful.
Last point. The new signing. Is it just me or have we all gone a bit soft headed here. These two look decent but that's it. Potential yes. Finished articles no. The fanfare and applause regarding two decent players with potential only is also pretty astonoshing.
Now I am not saying I am right or even half right but really we need to do some debating here regarding the above. I honestly think the average Celtic supporter is sleepwalking and all too ready to feast on any scrap of official doctrine handed down from above. Time to wise up guys. We are Celtic. Sopotcelt.

It's all well and good offering new deals but if the player turns it down then you have a choice - let him run down his contract and leave for nothing or sell him while he still has some resale value. Hooper may have accepted £25k pw a year ago, now he wants £40k, which Celtic won't pay.
Wanyama has made it clear he won't sign a new contract and is happy to stay until his current deal expires. if you were Peter Lawwell, what would you do? Sell him now for £10m profit and reinvest that money in the team or keep him for 2 more years in the knowledge that a serious injury or loss of form could be just round the corner?
Kelvin Wilson had a difficult first season (partly due to difficulties settling in and partly because arch-hun Billy Davies refused to play him for 6 months after he agreed to join Celtic). He was much better last year but was still prone to lapses in concentration. I think Celtic are right to see how he gets on this season before deciding whether to offer him a longer deal - he still has two years left on his current one, after all.
Stokes is a decent SPL-standard striker. If he knuckles down he could be a very good player but will he? How many other decent players have wasted their potential on outside influences, be it the drink, the horses or whatever? He needs to prove he is worth a better/longer contract first.

@Sopotcelt: I see what your getting at mate but I feel that a lot was out with or control.Rogne was a tricky one.I thought the boy looked like a real prospect and still feel he will become a top class centre back, if his injury problems stop. And there's the problem, will they? Do we take a chance on another three-four year deal? Risky with the injury history he has.

On Stokes, talented yes, but seems to have an attitude problem some games. If he could guarantee a cup final performance every week I would pay him what he wants. We also don't know what he wants contract wise, and we all know Stokes rates himself highly. If I was Celtic I would offer him no more than 10-12k per week.I suspect he might be at it to snag a big signing on fee.

Victor and Hoops have stated they want to head south. There is nothing we can do if they won't re-sign.Running down their contract is financial madness.Victor has two years so we have a year to play with.Hooper can sign a pre contract in Jan.I have always thought this is his preferred option. We cannot allow this to happen. If he won't sign an extension, even for a year, he should not play.If he did it would hinder the advancement of younger players.

On the £30m buffer. That will soon vanish if we are not prudent mate. That includes the cash from a CL run, we might not get that this year or next.We are hamstrung by playing here sadly.

On the new guys.I think Balde looks a bit raw, but there seems to be a beast lurking in there. With the right partner I think there might be a lot of goals. Big Virgil I liked the look of.Seems very comfortable and not scared to bring the ball out, we have been lacking that for years. green jhedi

I'm optimistic about the 2 signings Celtic have made but I'm not doing cartwheels down London Road, I will wait until I've seen them in a few competitive matches before I do that.

I also like Stokes and hope he matures more this season, i'd like to see him stay and really think he will.

There is no way Celtic are going to have players on ridiculous wages with no guarantee of CL football. They are still the same old shrewd board and will not be held to ransom by anyone, I think we've seen that over the years. It is frustrating and I don't think for one minute its ideal for Neil Lennon, every transfer window leaves me a bit under-whelmed if I'm honest. Recently however, they have gave us Ledley (free), Wanyama (900,000), Matthews (250,000), etc.

We cannot compete at all with the EPL or big spending Monaco, PSG etc. Money is killing the game and competition ~ Mrs E

Good responses so thanks to all. My basic point is cashing in not only deprives us of the winning team or formula it also means we can actually long term may actually lose money. Are we to forever have a team in development? The lack of motivation to hold on to players is obvious. According to the model we actively encourage them to, look to pastures new. So why wouldn't they reject deals and this is why we did not work hard to for example offer the right deal to Hooper much earlier thereby ensuring we got a cheaper deal and kept him for longer. Its about building a team to take on the big boys or is it? what is a European semi final worth to the fans? Or a final or the CL trophy. This is what we should be aiming to achieve. I have memories from 40 years ago when we were the kings of Europe. I tell you it was the best feeling in the world. Quarter finals semi finals and two freakin finals! Come on let's remember who we are and let's dare to believe we can do it again. We won't do it by selling our best players and being afraid. We can balance the books and retain our best players and buy enough quality to improve. The problem is the board are offering only one financial model to the fans and it is without doubt the safest but not necessarily the best. You don't achieve anything in life without taking a few risks and it is time we started taking them. In Lennon we trust? Do we because I see little evidence of it. I honestly think selling our best players and actively supporting and encouraging them to leave borders on cowardice. Make no mistake they are being encouraged to leave either by intent or default. @SopotCelt: Excellent post mate. I don't think cashing in would be the best term to use. In Hooper's case, I remember him being offered an extension at the start of his second year.I think he had a bolshy agent who he sacked in fact.

The problem is the EPL.It has become a monster that is eating the game. When I was young, the World Cup was the biggest thing we had.But that was every four years. Then the Champions League took over, problem here is it's yearly.

Every player wants to play in it.That is a double edged sword for us. Our USP is the lure of the Champions league. With luck we will continue to qualify. So we buy a player say 23-24 he gets two cracks at the big tournament, then starts thinking about the retirement fund.A decent season and a move to the EPL, perfect for the player.

Home grown players, who grew up as fans, may stay a while longer, but eventually, given the chance, they would move to.Can you blame them? For me, no.Not if they worked hard and deserved it.The biggest hurdle is timing. It's getting the ages matched with the ambition and ability.Sadly big Vic ticks the boxes. The only puzzle is the quality of the bids.

Like you I remember the proper European glory period, Beating Real Madrid at Celtic Park being one of the stand outs, But we are not at that level right now.I do however think we could get a run in the Europa League, this would give us a strong platform to build on for the next Champions league.

In Lennon we trust? To be honest he has, to my mind made mistakes. But he has also shown some clever stuff in shaping the team at times.Lets not forget, he is also still building. For me the signs are bright regarding Lennon. He is one of us.If he has made a mistake, fair enough, every manager will. Are we progressing? I would say so.I think we already look stronger than last season. green jhedi

Good stuff GJ and you make some excellent relevant points. My biggest fear is that there appears to be no flexibility in the plan. What happens after 3 years of qualification. We bank a 100 fat millions over that period on top of the other increases in revenue which come with success. And add the revenues for selling our best players. What will the money be for? To build a new stadium or to increase the dividends. Of course the players contracts will begin to improve as with that type of success we are looking at serious turnover ( I think around 80-100m a year) that makes Celtic a rich club.
Of course the flip side is we fail to qualify and make a fraction of the CL money and the double whammy is our players are immediately worth half their potential value as they are playing only with the second best teams in Europe in the Europa. I agree the Europa is something we could do very well in or even win. The problem is year on year it is becoming less and less valuable and prestigious.
The leadership and the bean counters at the club have to get their thinking caps on. This outstanding strategy which was forced on us and them and to my mind was ten years late was more about neccessity that couragous strategic leadership and thinking. Now is the time they have to make the decisions. Are we a feeder team for the EPL or can we seriously make a mark in the CL. I fear then former and with a little bad luck a few poor decisions and some questionable refereeing we could easily be condemned to permanent mediocrity. The next few years are pivotal for the leadership and us. playing safe is hard to criticise but it will to my mind at least condemn us to the mediocrity of the Europa and winning a couple of domestic trophies every year. As let's face it the SPL is not a proving ground for our ambition or resources.but that is a whole different subject! Sopotcelt.

Agree0 Disagree0

For every Ledley, Mathews and Wanyama there is a Murphy, Ljunberg and Bangura - not to mention the poor loan signings of the past few years - and there are more.
The SPL points total showed as much about the lack of consistancy than the absence of a main serious rival.
It's true we cannot compete financially with the ludicrous fees and wages in most major leagues, but we should still be able to attract fine entertaining footballers to play the Celtic way. we were brought up with.
We should take time to sign quality every time and not quantity.

mouyokolo is far too injury prone. May be our Daniel Prodan

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Only difference is he won't cost us £6 million like prodan cost the Shame.!

Daniel Prodan cost them 2-2 million and a bumper wage packet. Oh and didn't play a game.

Mouyokolo is free, will get a one year deal and won't be on a fortune. Oh and he's already made more appearance then Prodan lol

Hardly cause for comparison is it?
