Ed apologies if you've answered this 100 times already but I saw Ed002 stated on the Man City page that there was "every chance" that Roberts would sign. Are you aware of any move being made to get him in before the Astana game? I don't think we should need him to get through the tie but it would be a nice option to have.

Believable4 Unbelievable1

{Ed007's Note - No mate, I'd be really surprised if Roberts was signed in time to play against Astana.}

05 Aug 2017 04:13:25
According to reports Man C have sais that he has a future there. Can't see us signing him now which is really disappointing. I hope we have a few more irons in the fire.

Agree1 Disagree1

{Ed001's Note - Citeh are just keeping his value up, Pep does not want him right now. The only reason he is still there is because he has not wanted to go, but the club are very happy to sell. Another loan might be the compromise, but the club would prefer a sale.}

05 Aug 2017 09:55:20
Ed 001 is spot on as usual. Paddy has no future at all at the Ethiad. Unless you are exceptional like Rashford, the top 4 are aleays going to go out and buy someone better for £30 or £40 mill. There is no consideration of working with young players to get them better. If City can't sell him he will go on loan but not to us again. City won't sell him for less than £8-10mill. If he goes out ti s premiership club on loan like Bournemouth, palace, Stoke and does well nect season they will get £12-15mill so they are in no real need to offload him. Now it fepends on Paddy accepting the loan as to how maybe City will react as to where he goes. He can refuse to go!

Hope young ajer if fit starts tomorrow think we've got a gem with this kid.

Believable7 Unbelievable0

04 Aug 2017 20:03:31
We've got a few gems Mally. But he's really stood out so far this (pre) season. I thought Ralston was great last week in the first half at Sunderland.

Agree6 Disagree1

04 Aug 2017 21:08:22
Agree vt young ralston looks a player.

Agree5 Disagree0

04 Aug 2017 21:13:10
I'd like to see Ralston given his chance the way KT was. Imagine another KT on the opposite flank! Lustig can't go on forever and the jury is still out on Gamboa for most.

Agree4 Disagree0

04 Aug 2017 21:23:27
I think we've got some really promising youngsters Mally. The future's looking good. And it's not his natural position but Calvin Miller can hopefully grow into the left back (or wing back) role. Apologies ed!

Agree2 Disagree1

04 Aug 2017 22:05:38
My boy played against him for another spl pro youth team for a couple of years and he was a goal scorer through the middle or on the wing but maybe they think he can develop in that position his crossing is very good.

Agree0 Disagree0

05 Aug 2017 09:24:51
If Ralston was anywhere near KT he would be playing now. He isn't. That tells you all you need to know.

We have a 'few' great prospects coming through is the same line I have been listening to since we opened Lennoxtown.

If we are talking real class, apart from KT I struggle to remember any. Aiden possibly. Apart from that though very few have made a first team place their own.

Hopefully this batch are different but I won't be holding my breath.

05 Aug 2017 18:14:01
I agree Mally and I hope young Aitchinson gets a place on the bench and gets some game time too.

Agree0 Disagree0

04 Aug 2017 18:36:16
Can we have a bit more perspective. We have sev, toure, ajer, bitton, lustig, sim and boyata, who can all play CB, but we need to buy another? We have young guys like ajer who will get a chance to step up for experience throughout the season. BR knows what he is doing-lets leave him to get on with it.

Believable8 Unbelievable0

04 Aug 2017 19:22:53
Is toure still playing?

04 Aug 2017 19:25:25
Toure doesn't have a contract with the club at this minute.

04 Aug 2017 20:55:03
This is the same defence we had last season and they conceded 23 goals in the champions league.

It doesn't matter how many centre backs we currently have its about how good they are and right now they aren't good enough. So we definitely do need another CB if we want to progress from last season.

Top man Augustus. I'm in Ibiza in two weeks ( the quiet bit with the kids) so I'll be the same mate haha. Enjoy mate.

05 Aug 2017 18:15:39
What's all this bitton can play centre back? He played like 1 half against a side who were parking the bus

He did ok but please stop making out he is a defender now.

I woulda swore we kicked off in the afternoon last year. Maybe 4 ish. But my memory is pish though.

It was 3pm BST last year.

04 Aug 2017 17:47:46
Like the rest of you I'm frustrated about the need to strengthen before the next CL round. But I honestly believe BR is holding out on news on Roberts. We will have played 2 league games before the game comes along so I confident we'll be fitter and gelling as a team more.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

04 Aug 2017 17:05:36
We got lucky and went through last year let's hope we haven't pushed our luck with lack of aspiration this year. My fear is that you're never lucky all the time. Yours-very disappointed in the lack of transfer activity.

Believable1 Unbelievable0

04 Aug 2017 17:49:08
I'm disappointed myself (again) . P*ssed off even, but it was clear to me before the first Rosenborg leg what we were up to. It's up to the players here now to show that they can be relied upon. I can see us getting off to a great start tomorrow, and hopefully get a bit momentum with a settled side in their correct positions for the play-offs.

Agree0 Disagree0

04 Aug 2017 18:30:46
I agree but honestly believe that wee Paddy will be home soon. More squeaky bums on the way though JFP.

Agree1 Disagree0

04 Aug 2017 21:08:19
VT. If there was an injection of quality that would fit straight in, it would be him. 8m too, pretty much what we'll bank from the 'unbudgeted' european money already.

Ed whens the deadline bud for signing for play offs.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed007's Note - It's not changed since the last time I put them up ;) 7 August 2017 (24.00CET) for all matches in the play-offs.}

04 Aug 2017 15:35:18
Cheers ed need to get there finger out then if any bodies are coming in.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed007's Note - You can still sign a wildcard as well in this round. I wouldn't hold my breath on any signings before Monday night.}

04 Aug 2017 15:39:50
Agree same every year hope it doesn't bite them on the arse.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed007's Note - What happened to getting players in early to have them settled for CL qualifiers that Rodgers - and every previous manger - mentioned? Against Rosenborg the only new signing that started was Hayes and he'd have been on the bench if we had a fully fit striker.
Is our main transfer strategy really waiting until EPL teams name their squads and see what's left?}

04 Aug 2017 16:13:39
Looks like it ed and waiting to guarantee CL football before spending any more, at least we spent something on Ntcham, slow progress.

Agree2 Disagree0

{Ed007's Note - Where was he Ntcham other night? Our most expensive signing since Brown and he's starting on the bench on what was the most important game we've played so far.}

04 Aug 2017 16:50:43
Said before, maybe fans should adopt clubs policy and not commit to season tickets until we know what or who we will be watching. 😳.

Agree1 Disagree0

04 Aug 2017 16:52:46
ED, I'm not on to have a moan but in your opinion is it Rodgers u think that's reluctant to bring players in ( and I know they need to be the right quality) or do u think the board could be doing a bit more to help him out? The reason I ask is we've now at this moment got 1 fit centre half, 1 nearly fully fit striker and with an opportunity to bring a couple in before this next tie, what do you think the chances of that happening? I'd see Brendan s point about playing bitton or lustig at centre half if we didn't have the opportunity to sign before this next tie but the fact we do have an opportunity to bring 1 or 2 in given the injuries we have, surely it makes sense to do so if possible.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed007's Note - I think it's a bit of both to be honest, Garry but I think the most important thing is the CL qualification and not for the money side but to have that carrot to dangle in front of potential signings.
We've got more than one fit CB though, Simunovic, Ajer, Lustig can move in there and it looks like Rodgers fancies Bitton in there as well.}

04 Aug 2017 17:35:29
Ed the reason we don't buy early and its only my opinion is that we may get a better player once the other teams have not sold players with say onky 1 year left on their contract. A lot of ayers are frozen out then so better value? Not how i would like to do it but its so regular it can only be tbe reason. We do need another striker but sure Dembele is going no where. What do you think our chances are against Astana.

Agree1 Disagree1

{Ed007's Note - We are certainties to go through imo.}

04 Aug 2017 17:08:28
What's your opinion ed on Scott brown so far this season? Personally I think he looks bulked up and has been slow and negative in his play. I think the international matches is starting to catch up again and unless he kicks in to gear soon he should be replaced with nitcham as euro teams will take advantage of his form.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed007's Note - The season hasn't really got going but I think Brown's been fine and Sinclair has looked a lot rustier than him so far.}

04 Aug 2017 17:54:21
I read we were guaranteed at least 8m now even if we end up in the Europa. The club should have been working on something to tie up thursday morning if we qualified. I know two weeks is a stretch to get a player settled in for the next round but if they were a quality addition, it wouldn't be impossible.

Agree1 Disagree0

04 Aug 2017 19:23:15
Thought broony was immense the other night apart from getting caught in possession a few times.

Agree1 Disagree1

04 Aug 2017 19:47:46
Ed what happened with the Caulker talks, do u think the club is waiting on City naming its 25 man squad?
That's my impression anyway, and I don't do impressions lol.
Incidentally when do the EPL need to name them by.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed007's Note - Rodgers met Caulker the other week but whether that was to talk about a move or just some advice regarding the players' personal problems I don't know. Going with what Rodgers has said today it doesn't look likely that Caulker or any other CB will be brought in now. All the talk of Caulker having a future at QPR are wide of the mark though, even though they're saying the right things to the media the owners told Caulker's representative's in June that he wasn't 'welcome back' - that's the words Caulker himself used. I was hopeful that a deal would be done but again going with Rodgers words it doesn't look likely. I still think Sviatchenko would have been sold this window but I guess his injury would put paid to that unless he's going to be fit enough in 3/4 weeks to pass a medical
The deadline for registering squads is 17:00 on the 1st of September but players, agents and other clubs will find out before then to allow players and agents to make decisions over their futures.}

04 Aug 2017 23:43:04
I think some people want to buy players because then they can say to the opposition supporters, look we have bought so and so, for so many millions, Celtic are well covered at centre back and more than well covered in midfield, once the new guys bed in, the only problem areas are goalkeeper, I am a big fan of Gordon, but if he gets injured, I have no faith in De Vries, and LG, if he gets injured, we need to buy a striker, with Moussa out till September, and I think we should put an offer in for Moult, I am not sure what the story is with Ciftci, but I think he is a player if he is handled the right way, he could be an asset to the club.

Agree0 Disagree1

05 Aug 2017 18:16:20
Aindoh that's bull mate, no matter how good a player or team is it should evolve and become even better when circumstances are right, we made a hell of a lot of money last year and no matter how you dress it up we are buying potential and waiting for even more money from guaranteed income if we make the group stages . There is and should be enough cash from last season to tempt at least 1 or 2 players in their prime that would walk onto the team and improve it but we find ourselves playing with maybe 2 or 3 players out odmf position and risking the entire season as far as champions league is concerned . Take the risk and if it doesn't work then the players will be here for next year's qualifications.

04 Aug 2017 15:06:59
Hi eeryone great news about the draw not the worse and we hae won before.
I know BR says we don't need a defender but:? #

Add Roberts and a forward sort out Armstrong and last 16 here we come.

Thanks for that mate. Got it sorted. Who says all current buns are bad!

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed007's Note - I wouldn't say they're all bad but I've never met a decent one let alone what I would call a good one.}

04 Aug 2017 14:42:01
So we now know it's Astana who we need to beat to qualify for the Group Stages of the C. L. In that case we need to sign Roberts and another quality striker now before the tie is played. Those two signings could be the difference between playing C. L or dropping into the E. L. Group stages.

Believable2 Unbelievable4

04 Aug 2017 15:30:11
What world are you living in, no out and out striker will be signed, what would you do in September if we did? Leave one of the three in the stand earning a fortune getting more and more pissed off .

Agree1 Disagree1

05 Aug 2017 18:13:58
Ok. What happens if Dembele is out longer than September and Griffiths pulls another hamstring who have we got in cover. Remember we once had Larsson Sutton and Hartson all playing the same in the team at one stage.

Know not Celtic related but watching Neymar saying that his move is not about money and that he is 'disappointed that people still think like that' has been my hoot of the week! Says it with a straight face, boy must need a wheel barrow to carry those baws!

Believable2 Unbelievable2

04 Aug 2017 16:28:34
Agree Davie. The impish cheeky look on his chops when he said that was impressive. The fact that he's on £bazillions per week now and the fact that his dad, who is his agent, stands to get an 8 figure sum (that'll be £10,000,000 +) will have nothing to do with any decision he has made. lol HH.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed007's Note - His dad will have had well over £100 million from Barca if they're forced to pay the £26m loyalty bonus they're contesting. If not it's still in the £80-90 million bracket.}

04 Aug 2017 11:23:11
Astana bhoys think it could have been worse quite happy with that travelling the only thing.

Agree1 Disagree2

04 Aug 2017 10:01:16
After the EL qualifiers it's getting harder and harder to argue any sort of case for Scottish football being anything other than garbage - with us being the exception to the rule. The problem is that it's only going to get worse unless there's some serious financial investment but nobody wants to invest because it's so bad currently. In case anybody is thinking "who cares? ", a stronger domestic scene would mean more money for us and more chance of attracting better players.

Believable4 Unbelievable1

04 Aug 2017 10:26:45
I care. More than anything it would just be more enjoyable to watch. No doubt it would help Celtic too. I think clubs need to start by getting bums on seats and by getting the next generation (schools, youth groups etc) interested. The problem is they'll always be satellites as long as Celtic and Rangers remain as supported as they are in such a small country.

Agree1 Disagree1

04 Aug 2017 10:52:19
Celtic will draw Astana. let's see how far we are in front compared to ladt year. We would have lost that Rosenborg game lady year so hope we can get through next one. Liverpool will get Istanbul. Easy tie. that's my prediction. Lol.

Agree1 Disagree1

04 Aug 2017 11:09:18
Can't argue about the atrocious state of our opponents in Scotland when it comes to Europe, but this is nothing new and while our game is governed by corrupt and self- serving, buffoons, we will stagnate and die.
Our season has been out of sinc with the qualifying rounds for a long time and we have done nothing to address the football calendar and fixtures to improve our preparation, while the governing bodies have been preoccupied with pockling registrations and licenses and other monkey business to address and improve this crisis.

Agree1 Disagree0

{Ed007's Note - The Cypriot league runs from August to May so what difference would it make when our league starts? Summer football would be an unmitigated disaster and the annual calls for it are only used as an excuse to cover up failure.
Do you think Dutch fans will be talking about summer football because Ajax were eliminated from the CL or Rosenborg fans think Norway should change to winter football after Wednesday?}

04 Aug 2017 11:44:51
Do Norway not already have summer football Ed? If so then it obviously doesn't guarantee success in Europe.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed007's Note - That was a typo, Kev - it should have said winter football there. I've changed it now.}

04 Aug 2017 12:05:07
I think we could right off buying players of any quality if we switched to summer football.
It's maybe not a popular view, but I think that there are far too many teams in Scotland. If you take a 40 mile radius of Celtic park, there must be 20 or 30 clubs within it, that's far too many when you haven't got much talent to go round.
I think that fewer but bigger clubs would be a better bet, rather than changing the calendar. I can't see it happening though.

Agree0 Disagree1

04 Aug 2017 13:06:55
Why would it be a disaster ed? Don't you think there would be more of an appeal to go to the match during decent weather than during the winter?

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed007's Note - And that's it, the only plus is the weather the fans are watching the game in, name one other plus, players wouldn't be attracted to come here, it'll clash with European Championships and World Cups and games wouldn't be allowed to be broadcast the same time as any matches from those tournaments which would affect any TV deal and sponsorship deals we have. How many young kids would turn down watching Brazil v Argentina in the World Cup on TV to watching Celtic play Accies in the League Cup just because the sun's out?
The stuff that we'd be better prepared for CL/EL qualifiers is just an excuse to cover up for teams failure to qualify, it's nothing to do with when we play football and all to do with not being good enough.
So our season finishes in November, how well prepared for a CL/EL group game in December would our teams be and how would it help if we qualified for the KO stages which would be played during our close season in February and the beginning of March? I'd rather face the smaller clubs in the qualifiers during our preseason than face Real Madrid in the Last 16 during it.}

04 Aug 2017 13:13:36
Is there any limit to the amount of foreign players you can have in a team now?, don't think there was many Cypriots in that team,

Agree0 Disagree0

04 Aug 2017 13:22:40
Agree Gerry to many clubs and far too many utter dross clubs at that.

Agree0 Disagree0

04 Aug 2017 13:29:18
Being political but I blame the governance of the game as a whole for the state of Scottish football to many rules getting bent and not enough grass roots help to improve the quality of the game With not enough investment.
