I don't think it was mentioned last week after the game but I thought the best player in that mobs team was the bald number 20! Absolutely everything went through him in midfield and caused us some real problems. I think key to stopping them tomorrow will be to ensure he sees less of the ball and doesn't have space to run into. Johanson will hopefully contribute with his energy and constant running, but imo stop him and you stop them playing

I feel we are going to show we belong in the CL with a win tomorow! I fancy 2-1! We can't complain about pitches we are the better team and our team Truly believe in each other, not just to qualify but to actually compete in the group stages! We do need improvement but we do have a cracking squad and if every player is playing for the team we are hard to beat! I think RD will build a team that may go on to go further in the CL than ever before but that may be next season! I think he is going to be one of the best managers in Europe!

SOS

Have you ever watched that TV series curb your enthusiasm?

In all seriousness I hope you are right, I really do. Qualification tomorrow guarantees European football for the forseeable future which will keep me sweet.

I think there is a credibility gap emerging between fans and boardroom but that is for another day

If we can come out of this tie unscathed and victorious then I will be incredibly happy

My heart says we will do it
My head says we don't have the ability or experience to take progress for granted
My gut says we will have problems

Paranoia used to be a celtic fan trait. Now it's pessimism so your dose of unbridled optimism will make me sleep a little better. Nowt wrong with dreaming of a better tomorrow!

Huge match for Ronny; this is a big one and an opportunity to demonstrate tangible success

Hail hail

Mate I just really believe everything is starting to come to gether! If RD is here another two years we are going to be developing into a team that no one wants to play even in Europe! I know I'm sounding really optimistic besides ours and probably RD's issue in getting cash to spend I think RD will do his own scouting along with our team he has a good eye for potential look at what he did in Norway winning the league with minnows and developing cracking players like odegaard and johansen and there are other quality players developed in that team, if he can do that there I think he can extremely successful with the resources we have!

Tomorrow seems like a tough game for us. If we were to go out do you think there would be any backlash towards the board or will we all just come on to discussion boards like this to moan? I don't know what other people's opinions are but I'm not buying the "we are stronger than last year" story. I'd feel more comfortable going into this qualifier with denayer and guidetti .
It seems to me that excuses like heat travel and state of the pitch will be aired . There is a point there but if the worst happens no one without a celtic persuasion will care . We will be the laughing stock of Europe going out to "carrier bag". The headlines r probably already been written . Maybe paranoia but you get the impression the red tops want us to go out to sell papers and have the old broken crest on the back page. Point being , we need to man up a bit and take care of business tomorrow as we are on a hiding to nothing.

I think if we were to lose tomorrow there would be lots of people complaining, on sites such as this, but I don't think there would be any real backlash towards the board, people nowadays make their feelings known by just staying away.
The thing that disappoints me about the way this board operates, is that they haven't tried to entice supporters back by investing a bit on the team and creating a bit of optimism, rather they have cut costs to make up for the loss of revenue, the result being that even more fans will probably stay away and the downward spiral continues. I think they are waiting for sevco to get promoted, in the hope that the rivalry will entice back supporters, and the crowds will improve.
I think we should forget about sevco, whatever they do, we can't control, they may never get promoted. There is more to Celtic than a rivalry against a bunch of cheats, and I would like to see us setting our sights a bit higher.
Despite all that I still think we are in a good position to progress, it's quite difficult in Europe these days if the away team in the first leg doesn't score, if we approach the match in the right manner, I'm sure we can score a couple of goals, and get the result we crave.

IF we do not get the correct results I think the board has to take some of the blame I am all for balancing the books but you have to have consistency to I am not bothered if who we bring in are marque signings or some one that cost 100k as long as they IMPROVE the team but I think its a case of achieving a level that can at least take us to the CL group stages each year and not just gamble on let's just hope we get the correct draws to take us there As what I think the board are doing each year I am no accountant but I am sure we make a profit each year but sadly that profit is not getting reinvested in the team. What I can't understand is we have top businessmen running the club and surely if you let the standards fall in a business year in year out you end up with no business. Or am I wrong?

I'm not entertaining the thought of going out or getting beat! If he played Griffitths in the first game we would be leading by a couple! But I think RD will start ciftci as a target man!

Des. H, i'm not sure i'd agree with u regarding guidetti. Don't get me wrong his attitude was that of a spoilt child, as highlighted in the cup final but he isn't the only forward that needed to be the centre of attention . Maybe it's the position they play , they have to have a bit of arrogance but he definitely overstepped the mark with us. That being said I' personally think for Europe ( where the possible limelight could shine on him) I wouldn't mind having him for tomorrow if we needed a goal. Did u see how poor we were after griffiths went off at the weekend. He was a danger if he put his mind to it , would u say we r stronger now than last season up top?

Just seen there UEFA press office have said we can't train at the ground. Surely we have to complain and insist a change of venue? We can't leave anything to chance. And in my eyes, if it ain't good enough to train on, it certainly ain't good enough to play on. We need to grasp every advantage and eliminate every disadvantage. Our gameplan we struggle on poor pitches.

So we have. Don't know if it's UEFA or the DR but it's been back and forth all night. I don't want to blame a pitch but I absolutely hate watching us on a scruffy surface. Might be a more cagey game than I thought.

See legia got awarded a 3-0 win. I wonder if legia will accept this. As they made so much of our 3-0 win.

All the pallaver over the poor pitch, one of my girls summed everything up perfectly, if Celtic had done the business at home and taken say a 3-0 lead over there, we would all not be making such an issue over the poor pitch.
Myself, what I am worried about is the fact we lost an away goal to a part time Icelandic team, so I feel our defence cannot hope to play for a 0-0 we NEED to score over there. I am really worried about this tie.

I think all the pressure is om them, not on Celtic and the team play better against teams that have to attack, and the fact that 0-0 will do, Celtic will take this!

04 Aug 2015 13:06:01
We should of secured win by at least 3-0 at home, especially with the fact our away record in europe isn't exactly the greatest

Agree0 Disagree1

04 Aug 2015 13:50:46
We should have a more comfortable lead given the balance of play in the 1st leg. NR raises the point I keep saying. They have to attack us more than they did. That will suit us more. Whenever teams sit back, admittedly we lack a bit craft and guile. I hear people calling for two up top from the off. Silly. RD is preparing us for CL football, where ultimately very few sides will sit back. Still confident. Should we fail. The blame lies with the board. I'll say it again on record before the game. I don't think the team has improved thus far this window.

Agree0 Disagree0

04 Aug 2015 14:40:45
Starting at home in these games is usually won by a small margin. The players knows they need to win and when you don't get an early goal, it gets tougher and tougher to get a goal at all and it could end up losing the game at the end.
Playing at home isn't allways an advantage, at this stage, don't think it is before the groupstages begins.
Next game Quarbag would have some of the same issues knowing they can't conceed and also needs to score once as a minimum, that's why I think Celtic will win it.

Agree1 Disagree0

{Ed007's Note - If we score over there we'll go through as I just can't see us conceding 3 goals.}

04 Aug 2015 14:46:33
I definitely think we will need to score at least one goal as we have a habit of conceding away goals in Europe - no matter who we play. I don't know if Griffiths is fit to play, but it is a sign of the times that we are relying on him alone.
A club like Celtic has (until recently) always had a history of forward players more than capable in these games and we are certainly not blessed with an abundance of good strikers these days. Commons may well provide a spark, but I think he again looks 'heavy' after a close-season ( but maybe it's ma widescreen telly)?

Agree0 Disagree0

04 Aug 2015 15:18:07
It does say it all JungleJim. When RD says he has a headache between Griffiths and Ciftci. I feel sorry for the other CL managers who don't have that headache! I'd personally play Griffiths up top. Ciftci Johansen and GMS as the three behind. Ciftci's hold up play could be vital, but Griffiths needs to be there as he's the best man currently to put them away.

Agree0 Disagree0

04 Aug 2015 15:29:14
I agree with the editor if we score , I think they will not score three . Of course it would be a good idea to win every game three nil and we could relax and not worry about the away leg . I imagine Quarbar tried to keep the scoring down as much as possible whilst trying to get away goal. Importantly we scored and they didn't .

This team are no mugs, we were never going to win 3-0 last week. It's not like we hammered them but missed chance after chance. In the 15 CL qualifiers that were played last week only 3 teams managed to record home wins. The fact we won and kept a clean sheet is a great result. They have it all to do. An away goal should see us through. Need to keep it very tight at the back early on but the sooner we get an away goal the better. Due to that I'd start with Commons over Armstrong

I hear UEFA have declared the pitch playable,but are refusing to let Celtic train on it??

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed001's Note - that would be a breach of UEFA rules, the away team has to be allowed to train on it ahead of the game.}

04 Aug 2015 06:07:39
Yes,Ed,I know but it's all over Twitter,we'll see later I suppose,when some of our more informed posters are awake.Up a bit early yourself are you not?

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - I am always up at this time these days, it is gone 9am here. Be very interesting if UEFA refuse Celtic the right to train on it, Celtic would be well within their rights to force UEFA to allow them to train. UEFA could ask Celtic not to train on it, and Celtic could then accept, but refusal would breach their own ruling. If the pitch is not playable for a team to train on, then they are meant to move the game.}

04 Aug 2015 08:01:00
Hypothetically speaking ed001 what do u think would happen if Celtic were not allowed to train on it then got put out the following night.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - if they were refused permission to train on the pitch, then they would really need to complain before the match and start the procedure straight away. If they wait until afterwards, they might well find that taking part in the game is viewed as a tacit acceptance of the situation. If they do complain, which I would expect them to as any club would do, then got put out, it would lead to an extremely messy situation.

UEFA's own rules state that the game should be played at a different venue on one of the reserve dates anyway, if the pitch is not available to train on. So UEFA would have little choice but to order a replay, anything else would put them on dodgy ground. Mind, with Platini in charge, who is just another Blatter, I don't know if UEFA would care about being on dodgy ground! Simply put though, UEFA would have not a leg to stand on, in my opinion, from what I have read of their own lawbook on the subject.

All in all, if Celtic are forced to play without training and complain about it, the result would likely be overruled by CAS and a replay would be the likely result. There is no way the opponents can be forced to concede the result, as they are doing their part in all this. The only people who are trying to bend the rules are UEFA.}

04 Aug 2015 08:21:06
If this was Madrid,Barca,Bayern etc they would be out already.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - no they wouldn't, but they would not be asking those clubs to play without training on the pitch.}

04 Aug 2015 09:26:33
Ed is it true that the picture used by the newspapers yesterday was in fact an old picture. And although the park is dry the surface is nowhere near as bad as is being portrayed.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - I don't know mate sorry, I tend to avoid anything to do with newspapers, they have no interest in checking facts or ensuring the accuracy of pictures used these days. It is perfectly possible they did use an old picture, it would not be the first time.}

No bother mate just something I read. Can't even remember where I read it. Whilst your on mate I sat on sat night and managed to download kodi with genesis for movies and modbro for sports all on my £30 android box that would've been binned if it wasn't for your help. I have now saved 35pm on my TV by cancelling just sly sports and keeping bt sports I could've saved a lot more if I switched to bt but wanted to keep the good internet connection I have with Virgin Thanks for your advice mate I appreciate it.

{Ed007's Note - I'll pass that on, Gary.}

04 Aug 2015 15:42:48
I hope by this evening when they have trained on the pitch , all the Celtic players will get it out of their heads about the bad pitch . By 7.30 Celtic Park time Wednesday , the state of the pitch won't be relevant , all that will matter is that we are through to the next round . We don't want players or the management making excuses .
Qualifying is all that matters , and the players and managers need to remember that and that alone .

SOS Bhoy , we really seem to have a happy bunch playing for us now . This must be due to Deila's management skills . Collins deserves praise too even though many of us thought he may not have suited when he was appointed first . As SOS Bhoy mentioned Scott Brown doesn't alone do good job on the field of play but also seems to help to build our family spirit . It's great he is giving up his own time to work with our younger players and this will reap dividends when the youngsters come through to the first team .
