Duffy scored last minute equalizer.

Duffy will give Celtic more of a threat in the oppositions box.
We could be doing with Barry Douglas to find him with dead ball deliveries.

On that performance it will be two steps back then two steps forward.

How'd he play? I only seen a skewed clearance and a misplaced pass. But that was 30seconds of play.

Guys
Duffy has a big heart. He's a Celtic fan. He'll give everything he has to give. He'll possibly be a positive influence on others around him. He'll sweat blood for Celtic.
Does that make him a superstar? No it doesn't. I understand the anticipation of some fans but there seems to be a section of our support that think he is already a superstar without kicking a ball. I can guarantee you that I have as much passion for Celtic as Shane Duffy will ever have and I'd play for nothing and I'm Irish but that doesn't mean anything if I'm a shyte player.
I'm hopeful for him and he'll have my full backing.
We'll see how it goes. HH.

Given it was duffyā€™s first meaningful game of the season I thought he played well. Yeah he tired near the end which is understandable but getting a full 90 minutes under his belt and another 90 in their next game will do him the world of good, great header for the goal aswell. Given he can score from corners as can jullien gives us an extra threat from corner kicks.

I've asked this countless times on here with no reply who on here has said they think he is a superstar or the Messiah that was also mentioned?

Duffy is a limited player. Commited, good in the Air and strong in tackle Row Z and Get rid of it for fun (1980's football) . If we lose Ajer we are going backwards as a football playing team.

Agree0 Disagree0

04 Sep 2020 09:13:08
Yeah, Ninja maybe, but we will lose less goals from set plays and from defenders being bullied. Ajer is poor defensively, which is his main job. Duffy is not as good with ball at feet granted, but happy to leave that to one of our 5 midfielders as long as he helps keep them out.

04 Sep 2020 09:40:37
That's a centre half you have just described. that's what he is.

Agree1 Disagree0

04 Sep 2020 10:00:04
If the rumours are true that Ajer wants away, then Duffy will have little time to build an understanding with Jullien. However, they are two totally different types of defender and that usually compliments each other.
Jullien has also scored an amazing amount of goals since he signed, so we will be much more dangerous at set-plays/ corners and that is one area where we fell short in previous seasons.

Barkas
El Hamed Jullien Duffy
Frimpong Brown McGregor Christie/ Turnbull Forrest
Eddy Ajeti
This could be our best attacking line-up?

Agree1 Disagree0

04 Sep 2020 10:44:39
Brilliant Duffy is here especially now we are going to score lots from set pieces. Never lose a goal at set pieces and our defence will never be bullied. Can't wait its a mystery how we got him on loan.

04 Sep 2020 12:00:29
Duffy will be a good signing for us my point is if we lose Ajer. We lose a big part of playing out from the back. Duffy is limited in that department. As is Julian that's just facts.

From Ed002 -

Kristoffer Ajer (CB) really wants a move this summer and agents have been offering him around. Milan see Ajer as a cheaper option to their primary target but funds may not stretch as they look to sell players and buy lower priced alternatives or include players in the deal. With other options falling by the wayside, Ajar is of interest to Leicester. Top of the list for Atletico Madrid - but only if they lose a CB - which they are trying to avoid. Previous interest of Spurs, Newcastle and Ajax has moved on. He does offer an option for Liverpool but I am not aware of any approach just yet - Celtic will be looking for Ā£20M plus - but the door is indeed ajar for Ajer.

Christian Atsu to Celtic could well happen.

Bit gutted to hear this as I like big Ajer and thought he would be right up for 10 in a row. Its understandable that he will want to play in a better league but don't feel another year with us would have done him any harm. Ā£20M plus is good money for him imo, hopefully this income means there's less chance of Edouard or Ntcham leaving.

03 Sep 2020 16:45:44
Hope heā€™s got his bags packed and doesnā€™t return only way is down after they leave Celtic not many go on to better things. Iv never been an Ajer fan so if we can get Ā£20mill for him outstanding am happy to piggy back him the entire way there.

should not be a suprise to anybody that any player wants to leave at some point after KT he was mr celtic as he would make out and he wanted a move so ajar wanting a move does not suprise me. 20 mill is a brilliant deal none of our top talent will be leaveing for peanuts anymore.

Yes D&P they are the only 2 mate out the loads that have left and I understand that UI but it still makes me angry when these premadonas try and engineer there way out our club and ad much rather loose Ajer than CalMac or Eddie.

Even though he tried to backtrack afterwards I think Lenny was accurate when he made the outburst after the Ferencvaros game.
Ajer wants away. He is clearly one of the players Lenny was referring to and I think we should get rid of him to anyone that offers a fee that Celtic feel is acceptable. When a player wants to move they automatically lose their desire to play for the team they're with and we don't need that attitude in the dressing room. HH.

This has been on the record for a while No need to get nasty. Ajer has been good for Celtic and we have been good for Ajer. I'd be looking to push the 20M mark for a versatile and intelligent lad who is also natural police. We'd get more, in my opinion, except that he is publicly wanting away. He'll have a splendid career and would relish a return to CDM. The good news is we got it covered this time, bhoys.

I didn't watch rhw Ireland game, but I read something that Duffy was taking the blame for their goal. I for one like it when a player takes responsibility for the mistake and from what I have read, big Duffy will add something different to our defence.

This transfer window to us is important due to us going for the ten.

This transfer window is also important to Sevco as they'll do what they have to do stop us getting the ten.

The NEXT transfer window (January) will be more important to the team who is behind as it will allow a last chance of any tweaks that could rectify a difficult situation.

This is going to be one massive season so seat-belts on and watch closely to see if fair play is thrown out of the window.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

03 Sep 2020 16:54:32
Fair play is thrown out of the window every season in Scotland.
Due the Scotland not having their own national Fair Play system.
That allows ONE club to generate more debt than the rest of the 41 senior club put together every single season.
Yet that same club still promotes they are the victims.

Tony
To meet the Uefa fair play regulations a club must not transfer more than 30 million Euros of Debt into shares over a 3 year period.
Sevco have exceeded that amount by over 50% ( 46 million Euro ) in that time frame.
However UEFA have suspended their Financial Fair play for 12 months.
Which will slow down the Sevco downgrading process.

Edouard fit enough to travel with France U21s. WTF.

If he starts the game then I suspect he's pushing for a move this window.

1/ 2hr in the Chapions League game the other week was all w needed from you Eddy but not fit enough.

Believable1 Unbelievable1

{Ed007's Note - It's being reported in the French press that Edouard has an ongoing thigh problem for which he is receiving treatment.}

03 Sep 2020 14:42:19
Why did he travel, when he would have had medical evidence confirming his injury? Then there's the question of unnecessary flights during this C.V. threat. The whole situation would seem to be not in our best interest?

This is NOT a paid commercial

As the regulars on here know the girls bought me 2 Celtic face masks a while ago and I have been wearing them constant since then.
At the time I thought they were a tad expensive but I have to admit they are very good quality and give a double layer of protection, so much so the girls now have their own Celtic masks also (Mrs T refuses to wear them lol)
We wash them in hot water after every use and they are ready for use next morning.
Out of ten I would mark them about an 8 ( I am hard to please and never give a ten lol)

Can someone explain to me what are the advantages of a back three?, I just don't get it, I know it is probably in one of those books that Ronnie used to read, I think it was called 'Football for Dummies', the one he was most into, but I don't see how a back three trump's an old fashioned back four,

Believable0 Unbelievable0

03 Sep 2020 03:45:25
It was obviously a big gamble last season that paid off.
The biggest advantage for me would be results.
The 3-5-2 played a big part on why Celtic won 24 out of 25 domestic games last season and itā€™s a glove that seems to fit for us.
The Motherwell manager mentioned the difference on Sunday was Celtic changing to a 3-5-2 formation.
I also think it helps McGregor get further forward with his intelligent runs,
with the security of another defender filling his space as he moves up the park.
I also think we attack in big numbers but also try to defend in big numbers better.
Another big plus is we get players much closer to Edouard for his trademark touch and turn. There is nothing worse than watching Edouard with not another Celtic player anywhere near him, similar to what happened away to Kilmarnock.
Give Edouard the proper support and he will move through the gears.

Agree1 Disagree0

03 Sep 2020 08:22:31
A lot of teams that play against us 'flood' the middle of the park by playing a 4-5-1 (or even 4-6-0) and stifling the midfield.
As long as we have the right personnel - 3-5-2 gives us more width and that extra player, with more attacking options; it suits teams like us that are good at keeping possession as team-mates are closer together. Plus we have the capacity to have a 5 man back-line if we have to defend or a 3-4 man attack on the break.
On the down-side defending with three can be vulnerable to quick counter attacks, so the 'back three' have to be athletic, agile and have developed a very good positional understanding.
It also gives us two up front, with opponents reluctant to go man-for- man, it creates gaps for attacking from middle to front.
I think the bottom line is whatever formations you choose, the most important thing is having the best players in their best position and hope they all do their jobs?

Agree5 Disagree0

03 Sep 2020 08:26:02
There no advantage to any system if itā€™s set in stone and youā€™re opponent can counter it. Thatā€™s why you need a coach who can read the game and adapt to what is happening at any given time.
Iā€™ve never understood zonal marking where a six foot defender get beaten by a small attacker who has a run up and momentum. Used to dread watching us use that as it always cost goals. Hopefully intelligent managers can adapt as required.

Agree0 Disagree2

03 Sep 2020 11:44:47
It depends also a lot on how secure and proactive the back three are. If you've 3 dummies then it's obviously not going to work. I've been reading Celic are still enquiring about Omar Colley, so having him and Shane Duffy in the back 3 will give the midfielders more security to do what they do.

I still don't see the point of it, a back four, with two good mobile fullbacks is way more stable than a back three, which is vulnerable to quick side to side counter attacks,
